Bury's finest since black pudding.
After the anthemic Red, powder blue and newborn from Asleep in the back fugitive motel and crawling with idiots from Cast of thousands,i found L.O.T.F.W to be a slower album, but it is a grower, and more often than not, they end up being your favourites. In my opinion, I am Kloot, Puressence and Elbow are the finest bands of the last 10 years to originate from the North West of this septic isle.

Vinyl - Awful sound!!!!
This review is for the vinyl issue of the album. Opinions of lyrical content aside you should be aware that this sounds terrible on vinyl. The second side is about half an hour long and cut far too close to the end of the side. It hasn't got a great tone throughout but side 2 is really really rough. Side 1 doesn't sound especially nice either. Should have been cut on 3 or 4 sides instead.Looks nice, sounds bad.

Review for Boxer:
Here lurks introspection
I'm somewhat aware that quite a few fine albums from the past year or two have slipped slyly under my Radio Detection and Ranging apparatus and I'm earnestly engaged in rectifying this sorry state of affairs. Boxer by The National was released almost one year ago but I have only grown to know and love this recording very recently. Here are twelve intense popular songs, richly crafted and featuring shimmering pianoforte, elegant percussion, soaring guitar soundscapes that underpin one of the most maudlin and melancholic voices in music. Here lurks introspection; hints of alienation, loneliness and urban gloom permeate the fairly subdued proceedings. The arrangements are upliftingly beautiful, the melodies take a while to appreciate but once under the skin, remain there like old 'n' loyal comrades. I'm always faintly reassured when I fail to `get' an album on first hearing; Boxer proves that repeated listens really do bear fruit with recordings of quality. I recommend.85

Review for Santogold:
This isn't as"genre bending" as some have said, but it is fairly varied in that tracks like"You'll Find A Way" are in a quite Yeah Yeahs Yeahs / The Kills type vein, whereas tracks like"Creator" are very M.I.A.-ish (someone she's often compared too - in my eyes Santogold is more interesting, actually). Tracks like"My Superman", on the other hand, are more reminiscent of good 80's pop than anything else, for me.
This mix is a good thing, and keeps things interesting enough to make this LP well worth sticking with, and if you like the above mentioned groups, you might well like some of this LP. On the down side, this isn't doing anything THAT new, but it is still doing it well, and is well above the very run-of-the-mill stuff clogging up the charts these days. This in itself makes this worth 4 stars - because it has genuinley good tunes (tracks like"Lights Out" and the current single"L.E.S Artistes" are examples of simply great pop tunes) and doesn't desperately try to be something"cool" for the sake of it.
So - a good pop album, with some actual depth - but don't expect this to blow you away, just take it for what it is - a good set of tunes (with a few weakish tracks...). All in all, well worth checking out above much else out there at the moment. I am still left wondering though - when will the 80's throwback stop...?

Well worth a listen
Santogold has been the subject of a fair amount of what could be called hype recently, which means I approached this LP with a certain amount of scepticism. While this record isn't the pop revolution some journalists would seem to think, it is an enjoyable and generally interesting one. Review for Version:
I am pretty certain that the inspiration for this album came from one of two sources:
1: Scooby Doo: close your eyes, and in almost any track, you can easily imagine Daphne, Fred, Velma, Shaggy and Scoob doing their funky cartoon dancing ....
2: The soundtrack to a cooler, edgier version of Austin Powers.
It's all a matter of personal taste, but I'd say it is quite an achievement. He even makes Lily Allen sound good.

REM have nothing left to say
I own every REM record and each time I buy in hope.. Let's face it fellow fans, its over! This record opens up with a fabulous track that grabbed me but it faded quickly and although for some moments it sounded like a return to 80's glory, it sort of limps to a dull finish. It sounds ok in places but if I want the glory days, I slip in 'Life's rich pageant' or 'Fables of the reconstruction'. Aside from the first song which is outstanding, and the next 3 (above average), the album struggles to convince me that REM will ever be the same without the much missed Bill Berry. They need new ideas and all I heard here was the same old ground. I will probably continue to buy their records as a die hard fan, hoping for a real revival, but it will probably be in vain.92

Back to form for weezer :) :) :) :) :)
Being a fan of weezer from the start i was really looking forward to this cd plopping through the letter box, and it does not dissapoint the album is very diverse due to the fact the other members have contributed to the album i would recommend this to any weezer fan who has enjoyed all of there previous albums even make believe has some good songs on it. If your one of those people who expect them to replicate the blue album and the pink album every time they release a new album! its time to move on like the band have an album should be judged on it own merit not what's come before. what you waiting for go and buy it...!!93

Review for Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace:
I think what has irritated me most is that so many of these songs appear to have been knocked off formulaically. Track one,"The Pretender" - video very similar to"All My Life"...let's have a listen...yes, quite a similar pattern...my God, there's even a section three quarters through where I feel like shouting"Done, done, on to the next one"! It doesn't really improve from there. Some are perfectly listenable, and would stan out maybe on mainstream radio - Long Road to Ruin, Cheer Up Boys, Summer's End, Stranger Things Have Happened - but none of these are exciting in the same way that most of the songs on"One By One" were for example. Where they have veered off the beaten track -"Ballad of the Beaconsfield Minors" for example it seems strangely out of place on this album.
I don't know, it's not that the album's BAD, it's just that I've heard it before. So into the collection it goes until The Foos knock off another one the same in two or three years...it's a great shame, because I'm sure that as individuals they still have a lot to offer.

Foo Fighters by numbers
Fair play, rock bands like the Foo Fighters do attract loyalty. I had a feeling that this one would maybe disappoint me-- a few months later, many listens later, I'm afraid I was right. Why was I so sure? I guess it was borne out of"In Your Honour", where whereas the acoustic set was genuinely outstanding, the regular CD was quite dull, only"No Way Back" and"DOA" really standing out. I wondered whether the regular Foo Fighters sound had run out of steam, and that they needed to split up - highly unlikely now that they are a MASSIVE commercial draw - or at least look in different directions - highly unlikely now that they are a MASSIVE commercial draw. Unfortunately, the Foo Fighters are suffering from"Chili-Peppers-mainstream-dullness" syndrome.I think what has irritated me most is that so many of these songs appear to have been knocked off formulaically. Track one,"The Pretender" - video very similar to"All My Life"...let's have a listen...yes, quite a similar pattern...my God, there's even a section three quarters through where I feel like shouting"Done, done, on to the next one"! Starts well, goes downhill from there.
The first two or three tracks are great - the album opens with some dark sounds of war and then launches straight into an amazing and powerful musical onslaught. After that however, the tracks rapidly become rather wishy-washy and samey - I struggled to listen to the album all the way through. By the time I reached the last two tracks I had lost interest completely.96

Totally gorgeous voice and elaborate songs
This album is beautiful and nearly every song has had me in tears. Leona sings her heart out in"Here I am", an ineffable ballad with terrific vocals from the songstress."Footprints in the Sand" is a phenomenal ballad which makes me cry so much."Better in Time" and"Yesterday" are adorable rnb tracks and"Take a Bow" is, WOW, no words can describe how terrific that track is. It's truly wonderful and needs to be a single."Whatever it takes","I'm you" and"Angel" have super backing music and as always Leona's voice is powerful. The only song I don't really like is"Homeless". I think the reason I don't like this song is because it sounds too much like Xtina Aguilera's"Hurt" which I think is a better song- no offence to Leona as she is wonderful. I also recommend the b-side to"Bleeding love", which is called"Forgiveness". I don't understand why it wasn't on the album, cause it is a really catchy song. Anyway, this album is excellent and really deserves 5 stars!Music, Neil Diamond: The Greatest Hits 1966-1992, Leaders of the Free World, A Rush of Blood to the Head, Boxer, I, Flathead (Deluxe Edition), The Imagined Village, Santogold, Version, Saints of Los Angeles, Melody, Accelerate (digipack), Weezer (The Red Album) Deluxe Edition, Hey Ma, Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace, Indestructible, Then & Now - The Very Best Of Petula Clark, In Search of Sunrise Vol.7: Asia/Mixed By Tiesto, Flight Of The Conchords, Continuum: +DVD, Spirit

Very disappointed :-(
I should have read the other reviews. Some people prefer live but I like crisp full belt studio versions. Shame the CD cover didn't indicate some tracks were live and some re-recorded. Maybe amazon will be nice and let me change it :-)
