New Price: £6.26

Review for Once: Music From The Motion Picture:
You can't beat great songs
As a songwriter I am forever converted to five beats in the bar as well as on occation a simple approach to songwriting. The songs on this album are stunning, and just like the film, wake something that has been asleep for a while. I feel sorry for the people for whom this is not their cup of tea.

All or Nothing

Our Price: £8.98
Used Price: £7.74
New Price: £6.75

Review for All or Nothing:
Flat Out
So much for second album syndorme.
It races out of the blocks, with the pounding Girls And Boys, and impressively keeps the pace up for the best part of the album. Single worthy Shake! Shake! is a fantastic track.
And songs like Move To Newyln and All Or Nothing allow you to temporarily catch your breath before the stomping Turnaround.
The album is littered with huge festival sized tunes, and wonderful acoustic numbers.

The Subways have managed to improve every aspect of their debut album. The lyrics are stronger, the music is tighter and it proves almost impossibe to pick out a favourite track.

Review for I, Flathead:
Keep em' coming Ry !!!
These days, Ry Cooder is a musical novelist and I happen to believe that his format of album making is quietly revolutionary. Here is another great example of what a concept album should be like. Mysterious, Iconic, Intruiging and totally musical.

In an age where you select a few tracks of an album for a download, it's quite incredible that we have an artist who makes you realise what a lazy musical culture we live in.

It's time to wake up People !!! Music is still alive ...

The Imagined Village

Used Price: £8.09
New Price: £8.92

Review for The Imagined Village:
A true fusion of the sound of Britain
Heard about this project a bit ago, but held back buying it till I had seen them live. WOW, now that was truly awe inspiring

Then I buy the album...and the ep...and the tee shirt.

The whole project works, on stage it is mesmerising, on record, spine tingling.

The stand out for me is the Benjamin Zephaniah Tam Lyn retelling, but the whole thing is a candidate for the best album I've bought this year by a country mile.

On a side note Paul Weller sounds absolutely brilliant on this album, man I hope he has a bit more of a stab at this sort of thing in the future.

Review for Leaders of the Free World:
"These feelings belong in a zoo..."
I don't know how to do this album justice. It is breathtakingly beautiful, with Mr Garvey seemingly effortlessly finding poetry in the everyday. Finding the cast of a wedding ceremony on the last bus home (great expectations), giving the best description of a bouncer you'll ever hear (forget myself) or drunkenly falling for a random girl in a bar (imagined affair). The whole album feels like a story and its one I don't tire of. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Dig!!! Lazarus Dig!!!

Our Price: £6.98
Used Price: £9.91
New Price: £5.49

Review for Dig!!! Lazarus Dig!!!:
How does he do it?
After so many albums I completely fail to understand how on Earth do Nick and his Bad Seeds continue to produce such wonderful music, almost on a yearly basis.

Maybe one reason is Cave's astonishing level of energy and emotive power, that appears to grow stronger as time goes past. Whether storytelling in a semi-autobiographical fashion (More News From Nowhere) or the delightful toying with religious themes (Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!) Cave is constantly inventive with lyrics that reward close listening, often with gloriously dark humour (More News From Nowhere particularly on this album).

Of course, one of the things Cave does best is the shambling, rolling tracks that sexily dash, drag, pull and push you along for minutes at a time. We Call Upon The Author fulfils that brief nicely, a sure classic along with the eponymous title track.

Oh, and if Cave's love songs do it for you, he's thrown them into the mix too.

So, no re-invention of Cave, but a continuation of the rich form that started somewhere around The Good Son and has so far not missed a beat yet.

Such a mystery then, that one great album after another and much exposure in the music press, and still the vast majority of the public have not heard of Nick Cave. This album won't change that, so we'll have to treasure him for ourselves.

Blues Breakers

Our Price: £2.98
Used Price: £3.35
New Price: £2.98

Review for Blues Breakers:
Life Changing...
I first listened to this disc as a fifteen year-old and music was never the same thereafter. I started hunting straight away for the original US musicians who had inspired first Mayall and then the unbelievably young Clapton. And I’m still listening to the fruits of that search. Meantime it opened me up to the expanding British Blues scene and subsequently other new British genres, all the way from Fleetwood Mac and Chicken Shack, to The Groundhogs, Steeleye and Fairport. The music itself is quite simply inspired, mainly by the fusion of the very different talents of the individuals involved. I’m not sure that Mayall ever wrote, sang or played as well again ’though Clapton went on to far greater things. Just listen to Track 5, Double Crossin’ Time, written by the both of them, which displays their different talents perfectly. This disc is one of those very rare seminal recordings which brings as much pleasure now as on the day it came off the presses.

The Very Best Of Eddy Grant

New Price: £7.67

Review for The Very Best Of Eddy Grant:
Same songs over and over ......
When songs are repackaged again and again we all know the music so of course it is the PRODUCT which then must be assessed as the first reviewer has . How good a product or collection is this ? Is the compilation worth having ? Only to people who have no Eddy Grant recordings on CD before perhaps . It is indeed another rip off well timed for release . It is not as good as other previous collections available . There are many songs not included here which would have made this edition of hits more worthwhile . I fully endorse and defend the first reviewer here .

Review for Two Men With The Blues:
Three men with the blues
I came to this as a fan of Wynton Marsalis, and as expected his playing on the album is superlative. My problem is,unfortunately, with Willie Nelson's contribution - with a high class backing band, he sings bland blues. When I consider my purchase, that makes 3 of us with the blues.

Used Price: £11.75
New Price: £9.74

Review for Clubland 13:
Absolute rubbish
This isnt even worth the '1 star' rating I had to give it. It's absolute rubbish, it's just a mish mash of awful remixes and even worse original songs. Most of it isn't even 'club' music. Some of the older volumes of Clubland are good, but this latest release is such a disappointment. I listened to it at a friends, so glad I didn't buy it..... Ended up skipping through the entire CD's contents within 5 minutes!

The Essential Neil Diamond

Our Price: £11.97
Used Price: £5.99
New Price: £7.64

Review for The Essential Neil Diamond:
Not Just Music Your Mum Listens To
You've probably dismissed Diamond as music your mum listens to. You're wrong to think this because you'll be missing some great pompous rock songs. Some of it's cheesy, but a lot of what is on this best of is genuinely good stuff.

His name looks like an anomaly on my MP3 player's artist list. The thing is, I'm not ashamed as I love these big over the top (orchestra included on everything) songs. And you don't have to worry about good taste getting in the way of your listening experience.

Some of these songs even rock in their own way. Though it's best to skip the Streisand duet. And Brooklyn Road and Morningside don't stand up after a few listens. Otherwise it's great. And the live tracks are very energetic - I personally don't consider them to be a compromise in quality.

Diamond's version of"Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon" is just as heavy as the cover version by Urge Overkill (as heard in Pulp Fiction when Uma Thurman and John Travolta come back to her house after winning the dance contest).

Twelve Stops and Home

Our Price: £3.98
Used Price: £1.99
New Price: £1.99

Review for Twelve Stops and Home:
Will They Last?
The essence of any Brit-Pop band is do they have enough originality to last the distance? It's often easy to produce a stunning first album and then fail to live up to expectations. The first album can well be dominated by songs written over a period of time. The problem can come when new material has to be written.

Having said that there has to be a starting point and The Feeling are a decent southern England band with some catchy choruses and hook lines that have stood them apart from many of their contemporaries. They have the pseudo London feel of a Blur but mix it with decent melodies.

They are one of those bands that you hear in a shopping centre or on the radio and immediately think"that's good who are they? It's just remembering them apart from the others that is crucial. Their debut album is full of idiosyncratic pop tunes - Never Be Lonely and Sewn being just two that give this album a feisty feel that somehow links with the likes of Travis, Coldplay and Keane."Anyone" is a beautifully structured almost classical piece of folk/rock/classical fusion
