A must for your Teacher friends.

A wonderful, insightful, thought provoking, inspiring, yet humourous and playful in its approach. Well, this Yule Tide I shall be sending numerous copies of this fair tome - lucky them.

Could hardly be bettered.

A well-nigh essential guide for anyone wishing to expand his reading horizons. This guide now includes much more than fiction - popular science, history, biography, etc,etc. You'll wonder how you ever managed without it. There is enough information on the chosen authors to make the text an interesting read and it is far more than a series of lists to be skimmed through.

A Must Have

This is the perfect book for anyone wanting to build or dress a Tudor/Stuart dolls house. It covers everything from fire irons to wooden joists and bed construction to the mechanics of a garderobe.

It not only tells you the"how" of tudor houses but the"why" too. Why dove cotes were common . . . why fireplaces were built as they were. Even where we got the term, Chairman of the Board.

For anyone building or furnishing a period house it will help you to make sense of the construction and decor and avoid the little mistakes that can jar in a period scene.

Having said all that, this is not a dry book. It's filled with lots of projects to make and is written in a way that's easy to read. I found I couldn't put it down.

This is one of the best dolls house books I've read and will definately be well thumbed over the next few months.

Few books of costume design are more useful

Few books of costume design are more useful than this volume. Detailed drawings in a continuous chronological format provide a history of costume design from the first century A.D. to 1930. More than 1400 illustrations chronicle the full sweep of two millennia of Western garb, from Roman noble to Victorian dandy, from Elizabethan lady to Jazz Age schoolboy.

Great reference book for all abilities

This book takes a look at all the different techniques involved in Jewellery making, including step-by-step working pictures to help you through. Not only does it explain each technique in detail but it also shows you the tools you need and how to use them. I like this book as it not only goes through a wide range of techniques but also includes a section which shows pieces of jewellery and how the techniques have been used.

They don't come much better than this

First rate work, both the content and quality leave nothing to be desired. Any Aton Martin enthusiast would be very pleased indeed to have this book in their collection.

Eclectic mix of watches

This is a very interesting book to dip into and covers an eclectic mix of watches from the Rolex Submariner, Breitling Navitimer and Omega Speedmaster to Ingersoll Character (i.e. Mickey Mouse) watches and Swatches as well. Each gets several pages setting out information on the brand/manufacturer and the cult watch itself, with very good colour photographs.

Essential Reading!

For anyone with an interest in Porsche cars, or sports/performance cars in general, I would rate this book as being essential reading.

Written by Tony Dron, a successful racing driver, motoring journalist & author who quite plainly has a deep respect and affection for Porsche cars, it provides an historic insight into the technical development and driving dynamics of Porsche cars all the way from `No.1', up to the current range. He has driven, road tested and raced most of them for the best part of 40 years, and in this book he shares his experiences and opinions with the reader.

I've just finished reading my copy, and I'm about to go back to the beginning for a re-read!

Scouting for used and rare books

Not 'Turn Books Into Gold', but at least it's in print. Not as much about used bookstore operations, but about nomadically scouting them, trading books from interest to interest as they are displayed by used books establishments and customers.

A book scout manual, also pre internet, but many things apply. It deals with exploiting the interests, both strengths and weaknesses, of established booksellers, and spotting and capitalizing on their likes and dislikes, as a nomadic used book scout and trend speculator.

Got mine at the library. Just read it. Good first editions publishers criteria and 1001 collectible authors (circa '96) sections at the end. Also, repairs and ethics info.

Every Second Counts!

For three weeks every July little else that can be called serious goes on in France. Everything is on hold whilst a great sporting event takes place. With a duration longer than Wimbledon, the Test Matches, the Open Golf championship and even the Olympic Games. It's the `Tour de France'. Bicycling in extremist!
The TdeF is as French as the Guillotine, Baguettes and Bardot! Around two hundred super fit human beings pedal their arduous, and often perilous, way through pretty villages, vineyards and sunflowers, mountain passes and stray dogs for some two and a half thousand miles all aiming to get to Paris in the shortest time and in one piece. Usually half of them don't make it! Just to cross the line at the Arc d'Triomphe would be considered by most of the surviving competitors to be a career highlight, let alone to win the event. And the whole affair is completely free of charge for the many thousands of spectators that line the route eagerly waiting to spot these multi-coloured, lyrcra clad mobile billboards as they sweep past on machines that can cost the price of a decent family car.

It's all here in this glorious book. The history, the heroes, the rules (lots of these) - and oft the sabotage! Within the pages of this superb tome will be found inserted a couple of dozen and more facsimiles of memorabilia. Artefacts from the history of this iconic event. Rulebooks, competitor application forms. postcards from way back and scribbled notes. For TdeF enthusiasts the book surely is a must have item. For the rest of us mere spectators it is a terrific, hugely interesting read. The book, contained in a slipcase, is a tribute to the authors and a remarkable piece of construction by the publishers. It is worth the full price but can usually be found for much less. My copy was a bit under half-price. A bargain.

If you like bikes and enjoy `La Tour' you'll love this! Do get a copy, you won't regret it !

superb reference on domestic design

My professional life requires me to date buildings. This is the best comprehensive guide to detail of domestic design over 500 years. The detail and research is immence, yet the comprehensive and clear drawings make this a very easily used and understood work. It is a pleasure to have this as part of one's library.

The bees knees

Fantastic - that's the only word to describe this book. If you are restoring an old vehicle and want to tackle bodywork/structural problems yourself then this is the book for you, providing you are willing to invest in the necessary tools (which are covered in the book). The text is easy to read, detailed and comprehensive. The book has loads of illustrations which support the text. In fact, the illustrations are so good you can use them by themselves - a picture says a thousand words! Use of tools is covered as well - the only thing missing is instruction on welding/brazing but you can find this in a another book.
