Transcends the generation gap with ease.

This was my 11 year old's book which I picked up before taking a long train journey. I'm not too sure what I was expecteing but it certainly wasn't the enrichment I got from reading this book in a few hours.

Great for kids & great for adults.

It's written in a very approachable style with good descriptive passages & the story is revealed at a steady pace.

If you're looking for something for your 9 - 13 year old, get this - it's contemporary & cool. If you fancy a go yourself, go ahead - it's got a decent story to it.

It was also made into a film by Disney which perhaps adds to the deal.

Highly recommended.

A timeless classic

Tom is sent away to stay with his uncle and aunt in their small flat when his brother gets the measles. He misses his brother and their garden but one magical night, the grandfather clock in the hall strikes thirteen and Tom discovers a secret garden outside. Over the next few weeks, he spends time in the garden and befriends Hatty, a lonely orphan girl. But time obeys different rules in the"midnight garden" and gradually Hatty grows up and away from Tom...
This is a breathtakingly beautiful book. Not only are the descriptions of the garden and the frozen river lovely and evocative but the book raises all sorts of interesting questions about the nature of time, about ghosts, about dreams, about growing up and about the power of the imagination. It is quite similar in theme and feeling to"The Children of Green Knowe" - another book about a lonely boy who meets children from the past in a big garden - but is none the worse for that.
I read this book to my son, aged 7. He's probably still a little young for it but loved it all the same and I hope he'll read it for himself when he's older.

Hilarious =D

The 6th book in the series. Absolutely loved it. The book's full of irony and it's abolutely hilarious! I got some weird looks from people when I burst out laughing whilst reading it! Highly recommend it to anyone. Puts you in a great mood, too! Thanks Louise Rennison :D

Excellent book

I used this in conjunction with the Experts Guide Job Interview DVD Job Interview Skills - Extended DVD & CD, and found them both to be indispensable.

Just brilliant!

Lovely books and lovely story cd's too. So much nicer in the car than mind bending childrens music ALL THE TIME! We've even managed to get our 2 year old to stay at the table for a complete meal if the cd is on. I cannot recommend this highly enough. It's just a shame there is only one story collection available.

Great book - great layout - exam advice - I PASSED!!!!!!

I used this book last year as part of a2 psychology and thought this book was the best of the lot (admittedly the eysenck one is pretty good also) but this one was just that bit better because it was more concise and was layed out in a way that meant the info was easier to remeber. When you go to a page it clearly states all the differetn approaches on the left hand page including the theories etc... than on the right hand side concluded them including critisicms and advantages.

This layout is perfect for exams because it covers the Ao1 and Ao2 in a easy way to folloew. You can just easily ectract the arguments and can have some good notes ready for your exams.

I strongly advise this book if you are doing a2 psychology.

Highly over rated

I read the other reviews with interest. My son is currently eight weeks old and is one of the more alert babies (translation rarely sleeps, cries a lot and needs a lot of stimulation). I had hoped after reading the other reviews that this cot book would give him some stimulation. However it is described as a cot book, I think a better description is a fabric book. I have seen many pictures of this book unfolded and appearing to be attached to the side of the cot. There is nothing to attach it to the side of the cot, you can just sort of lean it there, so if you baby flails about they will knock it over. I think it would be better with some attachments for the side of the cot otherwise it is just a fabric book that folds out.

This may be ideal for content babies to be stimulated by, but as a warning to parents with alert babies (you know who you are, you are the ones that are currently desparately searching Amazon to find something that will entertain your baby whilst you get five minutes snatched sleep) then I wouldn't bother.

Good Fun

Terrific book. We've been reading this book for a long time, and now that my son is 2 1/2 he still loves it.

A brilliant, high quality children's book!

This is yet another of Hilary Robinson's fabulous children's books and as a Pre-School (Nursery) teacher, it's one that I love sharing with children and a book they relish. The delicious pleasure and the infectious laughter they explode with from the hilarious permutations of the stories is a delight to share.
Well done Hilary and Nick...this is a brilliant book that even the adults get a great giggle from as they read it to their children!

The renowned classic

A young mischievous boy called Max decides to seek out fun and dons his white wolf suit, but as a result of his ill behaviour gets sent to bed without supper. The pictures are unique and absolutely luscious; the text is simple but so very clever and the package as a whole is timeless. Everything about this book is awe-inspiring and memorable, so there is little reason to think that any child from Reception to Year 2 would not enjoy it and can easily lend itself to discussion and analysis within the class. Clear references to issue that affect children such as behaviour, imagination, friendship and cultures are all celebrated in this book in a style that Maurice Sendak is now renowned for. Additionally, there is a recent accompanying cartoon DVD, therefore creating the opportunity to look at the same story across different mediums.

Beatrix Potter - the Complete Tales: The 23 Original Tales

This is a single boxed book which is truly beautifully presented. The original pictures and stories in all their splendour are laid out with loving care. If like me, you do not have room for the 23 little books in a boxed set, this is simply a wonderful alternative. It would be a fantastic present or a perfect book that will make a great impact on your bookshelves. I maybe 50 and have never read a Beatrix Potter story before, but this has certainly caught my attention and made my day!

Very sweet little set of books, with a book for each of the main characters. My 18 month old son likes these and they are little board books which he can easily manage. The back of the books also form a picture when they're laid out together. Nice to take about and good for any fans of the show.
