Bring on Volume 2, I can't wait

Discovered this by accident in a old fashioned book store and love it. OK so the humour is a bit naff but this guy seriously knows what he is talking about and how to put it on paper so that the only thing on your mind after reading a chapter is reaching for the camera to put it into practice.

Quick tips that can really help improve the pictures that you take with whatever equipment you have to hand without blinding you with science.

An amazing book

As an amateur photographer I found the book to be compelling reading, being written in an engaging fashion and giving information in doses small enough to absorb with pleasure.

In addition to basic techniques and tips, you will also learn what equipment you require in order to improve your photography.

This is an excellent book which has helped me advance in my photography and which I have read from cover to cover at least twice.

This book is a must for anyone new to photography!

The Mother of all SEO Books

I want to keep this short and sweet as copywriting is not my strong point. If you are looking for a book that spells out the key issues on SEO in an order that actually makes logical sense - then this is the book for you. Rather than a book full of information (although it is very informative) - its best used a step-by-step tool to any SEO project. I can understand why one of the reviewers read it twice.

I had purchased SEO for Dummies but that was really a 'bits n pieces' kind of book and left me unguided. This book follows a chronological path and makes you stick to it.

I shall be using it on every SEO project from now on.

The book helps !

I bought this book after reading the reviews as I'm not into too technical stuff...

It's a very handy book which nicely and in easy terms (I'm not an native English speaker) explains about composition, what our eyes see or focus on and therefor why we better take a photo this or that way.

The book contains many example photographs which makes it even easier to see what the author means.

You Won't Be Disappointed

For anyone new to Nikon's D40/D40x DSLR this is the book to buy. The camera manual supplied by Nikon has poor readability, with tiny fonts, grey print not black, and defies logic in the way that's organised. In contrast The Digital Field Guide by David D. Busch, in full colour, is a treasure trove of well organised, readable information. For the newbie or the more advanced amateur moving to DSLR, you won't be disappointed. I'm delighted with mine. After reading a few chapters, my photographs are stunning. Much thanks to David, to Amazon for a terrific book.

Makes OS X seem complicated

I have to admit I'm not used to reading this sort of thing, but this author - to me - has gone so far in the 'make it easy to read' plan that it's pretty hard going. I'm fairly convinced that if it had been written properly it would be around a third of the size; there's so much condescending (and misleading) chit-chat to work through that it gets tedious to read page to page, and it's badly enough organised that it's impossible to skim-read to find what you're after. In fact, OS X is rather simpler to get to grips with than the book is - just poke about in the OS until you find what you're looking for.
There is some useful information in there, but it's very well hidden.

Only regret is not buying it soon enough

I wish I bought it a year ago when I started trading... If I read this earlier, I could have avoided mistakes I made NT pointed out in the book.
The author's writing style is light and friendly so it's not a boring book to read. Clearly pointed out mistakes all newbie investors would make along with good habit of trading. It's not the investing bible nor get rich quick book but it definitely is investing 101 for newbies and intermediate investors.

A must read for any web designer/developer

Steve manages to pull off something that is usually overlooked when it comes to discussing web usability.
Every thing is written in plain and simple English.
Everything is common sense and easy to take on. The terminology will be easy for anyone to digest - while being plain and simple, it's understandable to newcomers while not patronising more experienced readers.

The entire book is designed to be read cover-to-cover in a few hours (depending on your reading ability). I am not someone who can just eat a book up and have been reading it during coffee-breaks and the like.

If you have any involvement in websites and want to add something else to your skill set, don't even think about forking out on this book.

Great SEO Book

Started reading this book a few weeks ago and its an easy informative read with some great tips and advice. Maybe not for the expect or particularly techy, but helps you to understand what SEO is all about and make you feel you can talk to your developer with some knowledge on what you want them to do to your site to help SEO, if you can't do it yourself.

User Friendly

What makes this book easy to use? Its user friendly, with clear easy to follow instructions. The colour pictures are of a good quality for each task in Elements. What you see in the book, you see on the monitor screen. Page layouts are consistent and the print clear. Getting started with Elements 6 couldn't be smoother. The book is basic and more advanced. For anyone new to Elements 6 or upgrading from older versions, this is the book to buy.

Elements 6 is no longer the cut down version of Photoshop that it once was. Adobe have included more of the best features from their new Photoshop, without compromising the enjoyment of using Elements. Photoshop Elements for Dummies, successfully addresses the changes in this new Elements version.

A Cracking Edition of For Dummies

After Purchasing Vista and not being able to get to grips with it my dad got me this book,

it explains in great detail how to do everything that you need to do, it uses friendly language and does not insult your intelligence like some books.

I got the one with the free DVD which i have found very useful.

Amazon are the cheapest retailers of this product that i have seen, it comes wrapped in a standard Amazon packaging -- however you must be at home for delivery as it does not fit through your letter box :(

In All buy this book, you will find it useful, either that look on Google and find the answers for free :P

excellent book

Bought the book on the strength of the previous two reviews as I've not really been keen on the"dummies" books previously.
This one, though, is excellent. If you've spent a chunk of money on a new digital camera (like my EOS 40d!) you really should spend another £10 and read this, and actually start to understand how it all works! (If you're already expert then you won't be needing this, but understanding even how the digital sensor works is really interesting)
It's printed on good quality glossy paper (unlike some of the dummies books) and includes some really nice images.
Well worth it

AMAZING BOOK

Having bought other boooks of Scott and read online reviews I was confident that this book would be up to standard.
Before I read this book 6 weeks ago I knew next to nothing of photoshop; now I am a competent user who knows many methods and"tricks" and am able to produce quality pictures.
The book is a pleasure to read, gives one the desire and ability to develop one's skills further and I refer to the book again and again. Buy it!

Well Structured, Well documented, informative and enjoyable read

This is one of the better computer books Ive come across in a longtime. As a beginner to modern web development , I found the structure, content , and style of writing to be very helpful in my efforts to understand an idiosyncratic (to me) non-WYSIWYG piece of software. In particular the walk thru tutorials were helpful. Be advised however, that to create a decent looking site, you will also have to go through the same learning curve in Adobe Flash, and Adobe Photoshop / Paintshop, in order to make your sites at least semi presentable. And throw a microsoft course in ASP.net in there too.

THE guide.

The book opens with a foreword written by Hideo Kojima. He states that this guide was written in collaboration with Kojima Productions and to compliment the MGS4 experience. It is fair to say that if it is not in this guide it is not in the game.

The How To Play section details the controls and explains how to use equipment such as Solid Eye and Metal Gear Mk.II. The Walkthrough is full of in-game photographs and colour maps. The locations of all weapons and secret items are shown. Multiple strategies are given for each level as is the best way to deal with all enemies and bosses. The Inventory includes the huge array of weapons featured in the game and their attributes. Bonus costumes and face camo is included. The Extras section details all the Emblems and all special equipment such as the Mantis and Sorrow Dolls, The Solar Gun and Tanegashima. An iPod tunes list is also included. The location of all 30 ghosts is listed and The Boss Extreme difficulty is explained. The book concludes with a Synopsis and Biographies of all the characters in the Metal Gear series. Unlike a lot of strategy guides an index is included at the back of the book.

With the inclusion of Metal Gear Online it must be said that this guide is truly comprehensive. But it is the quality of the publication which really stands out. It is a joy to read and look at even without playing the game. For MGS4 fans this guide is essential.

A good introduction to improving your presentations.

For those that are unfamiliar with Garr Reynolds' Presentation Zen blog, and even for those that do, but want to know what sets presenters like Steve Jobs, Guy Kawasaki and Seth Godin apart from the rest, it serves as a great starting point. Presentation Zen is neither about possesing high technical or creative skills, but just about conveying ideas in a simple and easy to digest format. By moving away from information filled slides to ones that support your underlying message, you can lead your viewers to a higher state of understanding.

I didn't give this book a full 5-stars as I personally felt a lot of the imagery used was a bit cliched and didn't really"stimulate" me in the way I thought was intended but there are a lot of example slides which are great and show you exactly in which direction you need to be going. It is very focused on the actual"slideshow" part of presenting and doesn't really go into the art of actually communicating your ideas regardless of your slides and visuals. For the actually communication of ideas and information I highly recommend Dan Roam's"Back of the Napkin" as a companion book to this.

Great starter manual

This is exactly what I was looking for, a book which taught me the basics then applied them to different situations. I feel a lot more confident playing around with the settings on my camera and my photography has improved as a result. I like the way he has taken a photograph for each subject and then explained the settings on the right hand side. After reading the first two chapters I was able to cover up the settings, look at the photograph and predict what he had used. In no time at all I was grasping the logic and gaining confidence. A lovely book for beginners. I cannot recommend it highly enough. I also like the fact that he has explained commonly made errors in composition and lighting and illustrated the flawed results on the same page. I am starting to think about composition in a new way too. My photography skills were in a rut, this book has changed that.

Good outweighs bad

Positives: This is a very good introduction to NLP and i doubt you'll get a better one for this price seeing as"From Frogs to Princes" by Bandler (Founder of NLP) is £50. It gives you a good overview to allow you to read other NLP books such as"Structure of Magic" (which is what i recommend you do after finishing this). The book's layout is very accessible with very good use of diagrams and tables (which you wont really get with Bandler's stuff).

Negatives: This books is very much crowded with (to be frank) total rubbish. I'm sure other reviewers have mentioned the whole"pyramids" in your mind palava. This is also written more as a"self-help" book than an actual book about NLP. I think that's the most annoying thing about it, if you have an interest in NLP you may get annoyed at the amount of exercises it has to help you overcome different things. Also, this may just be me but the amount of time I had to read"the mind collects 2 billion pieces of data a second" get annoying, very very bad repetition.

To sum-up,a above-mediocre read and the best introduction you can get to NLP (unless you want to fork out £50).. And just a footnote: Do not take everything this book takes seriously. Aside from all the frivolity, it does give you a basic knowledge of NLP (which you need to read advance NLP books)

If only I had an option to give this 6 stars !!

This book is a must have for anyone wanting to get to know VBA. Don't let previous books on VBA programming put you off, as these can either swing between patronising to the mega confusing (in my own experience). John Walkenbach takes you through this must have guide with patients and humour at an understandable and undaunting pace. Even when I was only half way through his book I was using the information I had gathered to streamline my many tedious excel spreadsheets and by the end of the book I wanted more. P.s. John, please bring part two !!

Top CSS book

I have been a student web designer for a few years never touching the coding side of it because well... it scared me. I ended up realising that if I wanted a job as a web designer I needed to learn at least the basics of XHTML and CSS. I started by taking out 'The visual quickstart guide to HTML, XHTML & CSS' from the library. This was a good basic book that got me to grips with it very quickly. As I had to return it after a week I bought CSS The missing manual based on the reviews here.

I prefer it to the quickstart guide as the author explanations are more in-depth, he explains why certain rules get inherited and others don't. However I am glad I had the quickstart book first as it explained more about HTML than this book does. I think if you are completely new to HTML as well as CSS maybe another book is more suited. If you know the basics( and it can be the very basics) of HTML then this book is perfect for teaching you how to use CSS along side HTML for best results.

The books chapters are spit into theory and practical. You will have to read a few pages of explanation and then put that in practise. using downloaded html filesfrom the website. This really suited my style of learning. Having a written explanation before the practical also allows it to became a reference book once you have finished the book.

There is also a chapter near the end for people with Dreamweaver showing you how to add CSS in the design view.

Big thumbs up from me. I am currently turning image based websites into fully functioning CSS sites. The only downside is that I'm more of a geek than I was before.
