im disappointed

i did not like this book at all. while reading it, i never had those"aahh, so thats how you do it" moment. this is suitable for total noobs who has not even held a digital camera. it taught me nothing that i dont know yet, and im not even a pro.

Natural connection

Steven D'Souza has brought natural simplicity to an important topic, affecting all aspects of life. This is both a thoughtful and light hearted read - very useful whatever your current approach to networking.

Mr K. Dilkington

Karl Dilkington has the worlds roundest head, i mean it, you put karls head next to an orange, and you get confused which is which! The answer is easily found when you ask both a simple question. The orange shows more intelligence than the balding Manc, who is likely to attempt to answer your question, but simply can't!
Its an excellent book written by someone who must have an IQ of about 6.
Also the shape of it goes perfectly on any bookshelf, unlike karls head which would just roll off and onto the floor.

Good book for techniques that are often overlooked

I bought this book in late 2007( as a newbie to PS) and it laid dormant for several months. Now I have got into it and I would have to say its a very good book, well structured with good techniques that are all chaptered appropriately and progressively, also the accompanying CD is very effective and helpful. Now if you want a beginners book that explains all the tools and holds your hands through the tasks this book may disappoint. However, if you want a book that teaches you good techniques in a way that encourages your understanding and creativity then this is the book for you. Also the how to cheat bit, is a bit misleading and is more appropriate to other books that hold your hand through every part of the task, This books guides you, eg use this tool and this effect, but the tasks require you to think and problem solve, which actually makes you understand the software and is more rewarding, as opposed to the parrot understanding that you can develop with other books.

WORTH TAKING A LOOK

I bought this book becuase my other choice failed to deliver. I was glad that in some places Kent labours the point as I had weak understanding before. However reading and learning is not necessarily a good thing to be done qucikly. I tried some of the recommendations and found them useful. There's plenty of noted links, but they can be hard to read without a strong light and a magnifying glass.

I have read a lot of study guides over the years and despite the size of this book it was amazingly easy to read and digest.

The content weas laid out logically and flowed with ease.

I know a lot of people are upset that there is not evaluation included but if you work in IT you should be able to lay your hands on a copy. Also I strongly recommend actually using Vista before taking the 70-620!

A step-by-step strategy without the nonesense

Initially I was searching for a book about how to develop a simple website for my partner's decorating business. Having never done this before, I was attracted to 'Internet Riches: The Simple Money-making Secrets of Online Millionaires' because the synopsis made it sound so easy to do, though I admit I was expecting a book with lots of hot air and of little practical use.

I was very pleasantly surprised when I read the book. In fact,I was so excited that I started a book of ideas (recommended by the author, Scott Fox) immediately and have ended up with such a raft of ideas for ME to make money that I don't have the time to develop a website for my partner's business (sorry Mick!).

Don't let the American examples in the book put you off - the internet is the same both sides of the pond and UK versions of everything referred to in the book are readily available with a bit of Googling. Anyway, the simple step-by-step guidance would probably apply to any country.

Mr Fox has a unique way of connecting with his readers, as though they know him personally, creating trust and inspiration. His book is straightforward and full of information that even a British grandmother can follow, without all the padding that often fills self-help books. Every time I turn a page I find many ideas on how best to create my perfect e-business.

In all, if you want to be an Internet Entrepreneur - buy this book. If you are only remotely interested in setting up a website - still buy this book. You might find that it takes you somewhere you weren't expecting it to!

Pass the Prince2 exams

I rate this book highly because it enabled me to pass the Prince2 Foundation exam. It is comprehensive and authoritative reference manual which can be refered to in the open-book, 'Practitioner' exam. It is a cost-effective confidence-booster to instructer-led training, as long as one has some exposure to Project Management in the work-place.

PRINCE2, or PRojects IN Controlled Environments, is a project management methodology. It covers the management, control and organisation of a project.

PRINCE2(tm) was launched by the UK Government in 1996 and has since become the most widely used project management method worldwide. Helpful user manual.

I just bought the 450D and this is very helpful to get familiar with all the functions and buttons and menu options. Also has a basic guide to taking specific photos towards the end.

A very impressing book

Before I get started I would like you to know that this is NOT a commercial review. I am just an Amazon customer.

After many years using Microsoft books to prepare for my exams, I found this book excellent for many reasons. This is not a training kit for beginners of course. But experienced administrators will see that everything is explained very clearly and the coverage of each subject has been hugely improved in respect of previous books from Microsoft. Make sure you read it cover to cover and read ALL the"Real World" sections written before each chapter. It is True Enterprise Administration reading. Outstanding!

Great Book for any starter genealogist!!!

I truly enjoyed this book. My daughters been trying to buy it for me for quite some time. Of course that was the previous version...I didn't think I needed it AND then I hit a brick wall. I asked her to get it for me for Mother's Day, sure enough, it helped! Matthew and April, Thanks!!!

A very useful reference guide

This is a good book for project managers and senior developers who have enough experience to understand that even a practice like agile development needs a framework to work within and a certain number of standard project management controls to be successful.

It deals with some of the practical issues a project manager will face like prioritisation techniques, acceptable levels of functional delivery, inter-dependencies, estimating, padding estimates, monitoring progress, release and iteration planning.

Cohn hasn't written the book specifically around any one methodology (ie SCRUM, XP etc) which is good, as in reality people lift and use ideas from various methodologies. In that respect this book is a good reference guide to dip in and out of, picking the bits that are most appropriate, rather than reading it cover to cover. It is well laid out and easy to read.

As a project manager I am responsible for planning the end-to-end process from requirements through to delivery, therefore I felt that there were some areas that were either not covered in enough depth or omitted altogether:-
* the writing of user stories, and how to plan for their handover to programmers (if produced by a separate individual or team),
* while programmer testing is discussed their is no mention of functional (or acceptance testing) of the produced code,
* scaling up to large (possibly enterprise size) projects is only skimmed over,
* while the estimation techniques discussed can be applied to user story creation and functional/acceptance test creation and execution it is implied rather than explicitly suggested,
* personally I didn't feel that the book addressed the area of changing requirements enough, but maybe that's me.

Being a project manager with more waterfall than agile development experience I might be being overly harsh in these criticisms.

Perhaps its me?

I have owned this book for some time and I can honestly say it is unique. This is the only manual I have encountered that has been consistent in its inability to answer any query i have. Admitedly I am a Javascript novice but that's why I purchased this manual in the first place to help me understand javascript. The internet has quickly answered all my queries with ease and clarity, I really don't understand why this massive book is unable to do the same.
As I said above it's probably me, as you can see there are many glowing reports for this book. In my defense I have been involved in the IT world for many years and have relied on manuals to help successfully resolve issues.
This book continues to remain a mystery to me and I am seriously thinking of banishing it to the great library in the sky.

Extremely useful and accessible

I've just passed all three of the QTS skills tests today, and I know Iwould not have been able to do the ICT test without this little book. Ithas all you need to know, and is very accessible. The book explains thebasics you will need to know, providing many examples and practicequestions. Highly recommended for any trainee teacher as the book willreinforce your existing skills and help you to gain new ones, giving youthe confidence to take, and pass, the QTS skills tests.

Could Be Better

The best thing about this book is that the author gives full data showing f/stop and shutter speed for each image. However, for quite a few of the author's images this technical data will serve better as an example of how to produce snap shots.
I was disappointed to find chapters on portrait posing and composition. There are specialised books that cover these subjects, and frankly they cover them much better.
I'd only recommend this book if you are a beginner who is looking to use off-camera flash for the first time. Certainly not a book for advanced or pro photographers.
