Indispensable guide
How did I manage without this book? My colleagues at work regularly share our surplus produce from our gardens and allotments. This book has provided much needed inspiration for us. The plum chutney recipe is a real winner! The second edition is much improved with many more recipes.I shall not be short of ideas this summer!

I had such high hopes for this book. having been taught how to cook the real thing by mums of my asian friends i love the proper food as opposed to the curries churned out at the local curry house. this book has not inspired me and i feel flat having really looked forward to it being delivered. the series on tv was much more exciting.for really good asia/india food recipes get one of the curry club books - a gazillion times better!

Review for Delia's How to Cheat at Cooking:
you will be cheated!!!
My mum (bless her), bought this book without knowing the focus of the recipes. It should have been titled"How to treat the British cooking public like idiots and make more money at the same time." Evidently, 'Cheat!' was a shorter title. Stick to getting drunk and slurring over the PA system at footy matches Delia. I've lost all respect for you.26

Review for New Recipes for Your Slo-cooker:
I trawled bookshops for a recipe book and stumbled on this one. Being a novice, the first section ‘ General Hints & Tips ’ was very useful. What further convinced me to buy it was that most of the ingredients are either what you would already have in the cupboard or are readily available in the supermarket. Also, the measurements are given in metric, imperial as well as American (cups etc) so no need to convert. The instructions are clear and simple – very easy to follow.
There are some great traditional recipes such as French Onion Soup, Somerset Bacon Hotpot, Beef in Brown Ale, Cock au Vin etc, and some really tasty new ideas (for me anyway) - Chicken & Tarragon (delicious), Mexican Chicken, Malay Spiced Pork….
Also, it has been a real eye opener as to what you can use your slow cooker for – it would never have occurred to me to use it for: whole joints, fish, paella, curry, pate, crème caramel, sponges (can ’ t wait to try the Rhubarb and Almond Sponge and the Pineapple Upside-down Sponge).
My friend (the slow cooker expert) has also fallen in love with this book, so it ’ s not just for us beginners. I have many cook books which I only use for two or three recipes but I this one has so many that I want to try, it ’ s not going to sit on the shelf and gather dust.

After much badgering by my friend, I recently gave in and purchased my first slow cooker. Baby & Toddler Food Bible
What a fabulous book! I bought this book when my little girl was 3 months old, after a discussion on food with my health visitor and fellow new mums. I started using it when my little one was 6 months old and haven't looked back since, and she's now 18 months old. There are so many recipes to try, and it's very good how the book has recipes for each stage of your baby. The dishes are delicious - I've even served the"Sweet Potato with Spinach and Peas" at a meal for friends and everyone loved it! Also check out the"Pineapple & Raisin Muffins" - they don't last long in our house! My little girl has loved most of the recipes and where occasionally she's not sure, I just wait a few weeks and try again. On the whole she loves the food I've cooked her from this book, and my husband keeps asking me to cook the recipes for him too as they taste so good! This most definately is THE baby & toddler food bible. If you don't buy any other baby/toddler food books, buy this one.29

Review for Levi Roots' Reggae Reggae Cookbook:
It isn't just a cookbook, the book interspersed with stories of Levi's upbring and his adventures as a young man.He is an amazing man just like a lot of older Jamaicans. There are also beautiful pictures of the island rickety old signs that have fallen down but still manage to sucessfully advertise the spicy, delicious food to be had in the next building, lol.
This book is lovely. A pleasure to have at my house and the recipes are all authentic, rustic Jamaican cooking. It actually makes you feel good. Break out the rum punch and have a pattie cooked and prepared by your own hand and you'll never look back.
Enjoy!

Review for How to Feed Your Whole Family a Healthy Balanced Diet, with Very Little Money and Hardly Any Time, Even If You Have a Tiny Kitchen, Only Three Saucepans ... - Unless You Count the Garlic Crusher...:
Extremely useful book
This is a great book for people who need to feed a family and are running low on inspiration. There are lots of dinner recipes in here (including a veggie section) and a selection of"quick fix meals" for when you are in a hurry. The book would be useful to a beginning cook because the recipes are very simple and not at all intimidating, but would also be useful to an experienced cook because of the sheer number of ideas. A more experienced cook could easily adapt the basic recipes with herbs and spices to make them a bit more sophisticated and exciting. I think this is a book that I'll be using a lot.32
Review for Riverford Farm Cook Book: Tales from the Fields, Recipes from the Kitchen:
I've been a Riverford customer for years and I'd built up a huge collection of Guy Watson newsletters and Riverford farm recipes. But it was impossible to find a recipe for this, that, or the other without laboriously leafing through them all. Now, here are all the recipes (and many more) in handy book form.
And what a book! It's a paperback with 422 pages (printed on similar feel-good paper to the Riverford newsletters). There are quite a lot of colour photos and quite a lot of essays from Guy, written in the sort of optimistic-in-spite-of-it-all-but-sometimes-a-bit-grumpy-but-hey-I'm-still-an-optimist style of his newsletters.
Best of all, there's an INDEX... so I can now instantly find recipes for using up whatever unexpected delights are left over from last week's veggie box.
The book is actually organized by major type of vegetable (going alphabetically from"Apples" to"Turnips and Swedes" via"Globe artichokes" and"Quince". Each vegetable has a personal introductory page written by Guy (e.g. beetroots remind him of the vegetable hair dye used by his once-punk-rocker wife).
There's only one thing I don't like about this book: the softcover. This is a last-a-lifetime book that I know I will still be using in years (hopefully decades) time. But cookery books suffer far more than most and I can't help thinking that a hardcover (or at least some sort of waxed plastic?) might have been better. If we're eco-minded, we want our cookery books to last, right? But I can see the spine will crack on this in five minutes flat and it won't be long before the pages make a bid for freedom. That, I feel, is a mistake and it's going to cost you a star, my friends: four stars it is.
If you're a Riverford regular, this book is an absolute must. Alternatively, get the book and discover a million good reasons to go organic.

Superb book, but should be in a hardcover?
You know when the Amazon brown book wrapper thing plops through your letterbox... and you open it up... and the book you find inside (bought unseen, on good faith) isn't quite what you expected? This book isn't what I expected - and in the best possible way: it's much, much better.I've been a Riverford customer for years and I'd built up a huge collection of Guy Watson newsletters and Riverford farm recipes. Best Buy for Student
Just purchased this book for my daughter who has just started uni. Although still living at home she has taken a sudden interest in cooking making me loads of luvverly dishes. The book is well laid out with easy instructions and the recipes are full of healthy ingredients which are easily accessed. I love the twist at the end of the book on how to make a banana sandwich!! I now know that when my daughter does move into accommodation she will be able to be self sufficient without pigging out on takeaways. Excellent stocking filler for all students35

Review for The Good Food Guide 2009:
Engrossing as ever
As usual this guide makes compulsive reading, if you're interested in good food. For the last two years there's been a greater use of colour printing and the whole appearance of the book is more attractive. It's inevitably weighted towards more populated areas with very few entries for far-flung places, where in truth one needs guidance even more. The Guide is limited by he fact that it is alerted to good places by recommendations from the general public to which it then sends inspectors. So, for example, an excellent eating place in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland will have a lesser chance of inclusion if a volunteer inspector is unavailable to travel and stay there (at their own expense) to do the inspection--most inspectors only get the meal reimbursed. In recent years the Guide's entries have been categorized by region rather than by an alphabetical list of towns/cities, which is fine if you know that, e.g., Salford would be under Greater Manchester--not so easy for parts of the UK that one isn't familiar with let alone for foreign visitors. There's an alphabetical list of restaurant names--it would be helpful to have a similarly ordered list for recommended restaurants by the name of the town or city. I think this Guide is the best of the bunch of Guides as the entries are not paid for by the establishments listed and there is a big input from the paying public.36

A Winter Warmer from Yorkshire's Finest!
Warming recipes, both simple and sophisticated. As usual, the charming Mr. Martin has made sure that all the recipes are easy and straightforward and success is always attainable - and as you'd expect, James does not disappoint with his puds! The Chocolate and Marron Glace Tart is to die for - so, too, the White Chocolate and Raspberry Trifle and the Treacle Toffee is the best I've ever had! I've always been a little nervous when it comes to game but the Pot-Roast Pheasant with Cider and Calvados persuaded me to try again and I'm glad I did. It was so easy and absolutely wonderful. I only wish the book were longer.38
Review for How to be a Domestic Goddess: Baking and the Art of Comfort Cooking:
When I did finally pluck up the courage to read it I was so glad I did. It not only serves as the most wonderful food porn, but it's non-patronising and really easy to follow.
Not only do I love lusting over the sound of the confections, I really really enjoy baking them. I've had only one item go awry-the courgette cake-but even as a sunken mess it tasted fantastic.
I think anyone who loves cakes should have this on their shelf.

This book reintroduced me to the kitchen after long avoiding it (it's amazing how long you can survive on cold spaghetti hoops and sandwiches). Review for Recipes from a 3 Star Chef:
Most recipes are quite difficult or expensive for the home Chef, but this is a great insight into a 3 star Chef.
I say difficult because plenty of the recipes take a long time to cook and are very laborious, but 3 star cooking won't be easy.
I say expensive because truffles, foie gras and similar products pop up in Gordon's recipes quite frequently.

Not just a cookery book
I was impressed that this book goes much further than just fishy stories and recipes. It is a good read in its own right and the text would appeal to many people and not just those of us who want to make the most of the range of fish now on offer at the local fishmonger. It is very well written and easy to read and I found it really absorbing.Just one thing, if you are of a certain age and need reading glasses you will definitely need them for this book. Fantastic cook book - every recipe has been delicious
I recently bought this book when I rediscovered my slow cooker in a box in the loft. We have tried over a dozen of the recipes so far and they have all been absolutely delicious. Each recipe is packed full of scrummie flavours. The recipes require a certain amount of preparation before you can put them in the slow cooker - so you either need to plan some extra time in the morning or each recipe tells you how to prepare the dish the previous evening - then you just chill it overnight and switch it on in the morning. The house smells delicious when you get home! I would thoroughly recommend this book.
