Brilliant.........

I made the mistake of not buying this book before i got a puppy. Having read it, i am now trying to correct the things i have done wrong. With out this book as a guide, i think i would have been in deep trouble. Now my puppy is adjusting to family life and i can see an improvement, especially with toilet training. This book is money well spent.

Jeiiy Roll Quilt Fever. By Pam And Nicky Lintott

Superb book, Good for beginners or experienced Quilters. Well written with everything explained fully and diagrams leaving nothing to guess work.Plenty of choice with 17 projects and very exciting designs for the Jelly Rolls that are the rage at the moment.

Definitely worth a read

I bought this book because my 1 and 3 year olds were killing each other daily, and I was at my wits' end. I found this book really helpful, and it has definitely improved things, and helped me understand what's going on. Of course a lot of it relates to older siblings, but I found that interesting too, and I'm sure it is a book I will return to for help over the years. If your kids' fighting is getting you down, buy this book!

Evocative writing

I'm something of an armchair gardener - all the pleasure and none of the work - and this book satisfied my liking to read about beautiful gardens. Its chapters are titled according to the monastic hours, echoing the house's monastic past. The author created a dreamlike garden out of a field beside her Shropshire house. The book is a description of the genesis of that garden with digressions into history, herbalism, religion and the uses and growing habits of the plants she seeks to cultivate. The writing is brilliantly clear and the garden comes to life as you read. There are line drawings in the style of illustrations from a medieval book of hours, though no photographs, together with a plan of the layout of the garden This is a book to be enjoyed by anyone who has an interest in gardening, history or the spirit of human endeavour. To create such a magnificent garden is truly a labour of love

An inspiration

This book is an absolute delight. Perfect if you like vintage or shabby chic style, even if you only want to just look at the pictures ! I couldn't believe how many craft ideas there were. They are all accompanied by easily understood instructions and drawings as well beautiful photographs.

The book is split into sections giving you ideas for each room in the house. Amongst the many projects are floor mats, slippers, bags, dogs, cats, hearts, cushions,roases, horses, fabrc boxes, needle cases, strawberries, makeup bags. The best thing of all for me were the Angels - beautiful stuffed dolls with long legs and arms - can't wait to get sewing.

fantastic read

If you want a sparkling gleaming house like Antheas this is the book for you after the hard work of decluttering you will find it very easy and sooo much quicker to clean your house as Anthea advises in the book organisation is the key-it may feel like Anthea is teaching you things you allready know but beleive me you don't.If you follow Anthea to the letter I promise you will find your life easier and you will have a lot more time to do other things(like working full-time!!!)

Recommended for tree spotting beginners

I lead tree courses and often recommend this little book for beginners. It has all the information and illustrations you need to get started, with, in my opinion, excellent pictures of leaves, flowers, fruit, winter twigs, bark and, best of all, the tree. Tree shapes in this book are truer than in many more ambitious works.

Easy to do and easy to eat!

As always with a cookery book I've marked out all the receipes I might make and I can say for the first time ever I've cooked more than half of them. Bill uses such simple ingredients and easy methods its fun to cook the receipes. For someone who doesn't eat fish there are actually some really nice receipes and I'm learning to enjoy foods I wouldn't normally try.
The breakfast bars are the best for a morning treat.

Another great book from Maggie

Just bought this - an excellent purchase. Full of inspiring examples, great ideas to try out, and hints and tips - all illustrated with clear colour photos. Recommended for anyone doing City & Guilds - especially the"Creative Computing into Textiles" course.

Beautiful photography!

With this stunning selection of photographs, who needs a house by the sea? It's mouthwatering. So much so that you can practically smell the seawood and taste the salt in the air. The interiors are captured beautifully and are truly inspiring. Highly recommended for the photography alone.

Fruit Expert review

I have used The Fruit Expert for many years in managing my garden fruit.
It is simple, clear easy to use and has very useful information on how to grow, prune and pests or diseases.
Sadly measurements are only given in imperial. UK schooling has been teaching only metric units for some time now and there is nothing more discouraging than giving a potential garden enthusiast a book they cannot understand.
I only hope that the author realises this and updates the book so that I can buy it again.

Fab book

This is only the second book on twins I have bought. The first scared me senseless. This book was excellent. It was informative, and not patronising, and also had a great sense of humour.
Loved the fact that it has a british author, and not americanised.

Really recommend it.

Excellent

Sue Palmer is saying what most teachers have been thinking for ages now. It is a great book for parents to raise their awareness of the impact their lives can unwittingly have on child development. This book should be given out in maternity wards!

Try it yourself

This was the first book I bought before starting classes in cake decorating. Although I am more advanced now I found I could acheive really good results with this book when I had limited skills and knowledge. They are simple enough to do when you have young children around that want to help. My grandchildren all helped decorate their own birthday cakes chosen from this book, we started with the pirate ship with chocolate bar gang planks. Although sometimes you have to be a little inventive and substitute some of the sweets that are not readily available here, part of the fun is thinking up alternatives to use in the planning stage with the children, and they were very good at coming up with ideas of what to use instead.

Very old fashioned styles of clothes and not enough home accessories

I was looking for a good all round sewing reference book with ideas of things to make for the home. This book has only a handful of home accessories - none of which i would want to make. The majority of the book is clothing which i found to be very dated styles. It does cover all the different sewing techniques though which is the only good thing.

Tired old feminist politics

I thought we had left Ms Stoller's particular brand of political feminism behind back in the 1970s but sadly it would appear that she is stuck in the past and regurgitating the old, tired, strident politics and trying to tie them to a great craft. There are much better books on knitting around which do not find it necessary to bludgeon the reader with outdated politics on every page.

Brilliant book - detailed, interesting and lush!

I have really enjoyed reading and dipping into this thoughtful book. It's an inspiring variety of beautiful container projects that instantly make you want to start grubbing about and planting great things to eat. Plus, did I mention? They look FABulous....

The instructions are clear, succinct and helpful. You don't have to have the exact container that the author uses - you could pick something out of a skip and have the project work just as well. A section at the back has really useful details such as which vegetables need which type of soil, what their peculiarities are, what shade or sun they like and how much moisture they prefer. A section at the front has no-nonsense information on compost, containers and what-you'll-need. I found it simple and easy to follow - not intimidating, and it doesn't expect you to know anything, or make you feel a twit if you don't. There are even recipes for the stuff you'll grow.

I am pottering about in amongst my containers with great confidence this spring, trying to grow things I've never dreamt of trying before, thanks to this book. Buy it, move beyond the sadness of one-tomato-plant-in-a-growbag in the corner of your patio. Have some fun!

if you know someone who is just about to leave home. buy them this book.
dissapointingly there is only about a 1/4 of it dedicated to cleaning. however it deals with everything!

dealing with emergencies
looking after visitors
choosing decor and flooring
dealing with pet mess
how cleaners actually work and what works with what stains
what tools you really need

an in depthe wonderfully detailed book, punctuated by short tales of kims experience of cleaning homes for a living.

too often we look down on cleaners as people who can do nothing else and housework as something awful. but this book shows that you should try to enjoy the process because of the rewards you will reap from it.

if you are living in a huge scary mess or tidying and then getting messy in a day you may need to sort that out first, although this book sort of deals with clutter and tries to set up a schedule i have found much better help through"sink reflections" by marla cilley but now my home is emptier and more organised the cleaning bible is taking over and i can now keep my tidy home sparkling.


also i love that kim and aggie don't advocate faddy cleaneres and there is a very basic list of what you need and it's all cheap, better for you and the environment and fits in a small cupboard.

but sorry aggie i can't see me ironing tea towels and dishclothes lol.

this is a wonderful book and a good read a great resource that i am sure i will turn to time and time again.
