Blu ray?

Nothing like blu ray should look..totally lacking in any fine detail and sound so-so..really not good enough of what is a darn good movie.

Bruce Willis Looks as Fit as Ever in Top Die Hard Film

When I heard of Die Hard 4.0 my first thoughts were"they're are really milking this dry" not so....Bruce Willis returns as the infamous Detective John McClane in what is best described as one of the finest Die Hard Films of the Four....In a computer age the USA is under a threat of a total closedown of all transport,business and power through the proverbial genius who has just turned lunatic in tapping into every Government computer known to man the reason? to get the $$$millions of dollars payoff that he didn't get when working for the US Government in the past..... Queue the role for the thorn in the side cop to spoil it .....Bruce Willis plays his role to utmost perfection and even with the years going by from the last Die Hard he is still every bit as believeable as the cop who gets the bad guys playing his role with class to spare and incredible stunts...Die Hard 4.0 is a fast action special effects bonanza with a great storyline that fits into the modern day with ease.....from professional hitmen to computer whizz kids it becomes a battle of the minds as well as the braun....This Blu-ray is everything you would want it to be in terms of reference quality with picture pin sharp and the sound absolutely sublime especially with explosions making your living room shake..... A Blu-ray of reference quality status and a film to match....real class

Mindless stuff but a bench for Blu-Ray production quality

Essentially the director of this film saw the battles from Lord Of The Rings and simply decided to make a 2 hr extended version. Very little plot, character building or decent acting but action and violence ad nauseum. Blu-Ray picture is superb and hi-def sound is stunning however. Worth a watch if you're an action-genre junkie just don't expect an engrossing storyline.

For each Rambo Fan a must have!

First: It is Blu-Ray and not a cheap copy of the DVD.
From movie to movie it gets even better.
The sound is well mixed. That means that you are not pushed
from your seats when explosions occur. The balance between speach and effects is perfect.

Except of the fourth part"John Rambo" you have nearly no extras.
Only one interview with Sly, but this is worth a look.

Of course there are no cuts. You can enjoy the complete movies.
This is interesting for german costumers. They also find the uncut
german-version on this. Very nice.

Good quality, price is fair. Clear recommandation!

Utter rubbish!

I won't pull my punches here - this movie is rubbish. I made a terrible mistake buying it on Blu-Ray from Amazon (not Amazon's fault of course, but I now wish I'd rented). The movie insults the viewer's intelligence on virtually every level, insisting that you buy into the idea that ancient cavemen could speak perfect English, wore well-tailored trousers, and could befriend wild sabre-tooth tigers. Aside from the lame set-up, the plot is a slow, plodding, meaningless affair that bores to the bone.

If you want to see a really good caveman movie then go for Jean-Jacques Annaud's 1981 masterpiece Quest For Fire which is superior in every respect and remains one of the finest prehistoric movies of modern times. This effort is just a waste of space and does not deserve your time.

Great potential mostly squandered

Batman: Gotham Knight is a lot like The Animatrix [Blu-ray] [2003] in that it bridges two movies with colorful and varied animation and innovative stories. Or at least that's what it should have been. While The Animatrix [Blu-ray] [2003] was fresh and exciting and superior to the live-action films Batman: Gotham Knight just seems to plod around familiar territory without ever getting too deep.

Averaging at about 11 minutes each the stories are just too short to really make an impression and a couple of them end abruptly much to the annoyance of the viewer.

Kevin Conroy returns as the voice of Batman (this will come as a great relief to fans who have had to put up with Rino Romano's voice in the new, inferior series) but there's none of the wild invention seen in the 90s TV series or any of the subsequent feature-length movies. Each story seems to have one idea and sticks with it to the bitter end whether it works or not. It would have been better if they connected the stories and built towards a better end.

As a movie it fails. As a sequence of quick adventures leading up to The Dark Knight it kinda works. The animation is pretty and I'd like to see more but give us more depth next time, Warner.

The Blu Ray features a 1.85:1 1080p picture that isn't amazing but still manages to impress depending on the animation style of the particular adventure. The first being the worst and the last being the best. There is also a DD+ soundtrack which works just fine and quite a lot of extras.

Please, Warner! Release more Batman on Blu Ray. I want to see The Batman Superman Movie, Batman - Mask Of The Phantasm [1993], Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker [2001] (REGION 1) (NTSC), Batman & Mr. Freeze: Subzero [1998] (REGION 1) (NTSC)and Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman [2003] (REGION 1) (NTSC) in glorious high definition and I am not prepared to wait.

A Modern Classic

Superb film.For me this is up there with The Unforgiven as the best modern western.Criminaly overlooked at the oscars.

Best Picture Quality

Previously I own the DVD version of this film. Few days ago I bought a SONY BDP S300 player. I choose"Tears of the sun" for my first Blu ray DVD. Picture quality is amazing. God I love Blu rays

Not as good as the first but still entertaining

In `National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets' Nicholas Cage and his bad haircut/wig returns as Ben Gates in the follow-up to the excellent 2004 film. He has been kicked out of his girlfriend, Abigail's (Diane Kruger) house and he has also just found out that his great grandfather is on the list of names associated with the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. With the help of Abigail and his side-kick Riley (Justin Bartha), Ben attempts to clear his family's name by using his deciphering skills to follow the clues to find the legendary City of Gold.

The first National Treasure was a surprisingly excellent adventure film that was well up there in the ranks with Indiana Jones and The Da Vinci Code, but the follow-up wasn't so great. Although there are still some amazing action sequences including an impressive car (and lorry) chase through the busy city streets of Central London (on a day where the police must have all been off work!) and an attempt at kidnapping the president of the United States, it really failed with the characters this time round as they were all extremely un-likeable and nowhere near as funny as in the first one. Kruger's character was just so stuck-up and irritating where as Helen Mirren's character of Ben's mum was just completely pointless and felt out of place. Ed Harris' character however was very good as the bad guy, Mitch who I did tend to hate the whole way through.

I'm not saying that I didn't enjoy this film as it was still very good, but it didn't have the feel-good sparks of the first one and the script wasn't as clever and the action wasn't as exciting.

The Blu Ray quality is again unbeatable proving that Disney really are the best when it comes to crisp, sharp images and sound.

Overall, if you've seen the original you'll probably like this, as I did, but I do warn you that you will feel underwhelmed. If you are new to the series I'd highly recommend watching the original first as it is miles better in all departments. If you can get this in the boxset with the original, this is well worth getting, otherwise I'd just give it a rent.

Very Impressed...

Very impressed with this blu-ray transfer of Independence Day, the picture is crisp tho has some obvious signs of grain as the film is 12 years old now, but the sound really blew me away, particulary the scene when the mothership gets blown up at the end..unbelievable.. overall this is probably the best quality you will get for this film, a good purchase!

great film

got this film on normal dvd and just got it on blue-ray my lcd tv is a toshiba 37" 1080p blu-ray player samsung the picture quality on the blue-ray is breathtaking the sharpness colors are fantastic spent most of the time watching the scenery and sky and clouds so clear the film itself is great to great battle scenes good storyline i didnt think orlando blooms acting was bad enjoyed al the 3 hours of the film 5 out of 5

CGI is very good, non-cgi is slightly grainy

Good film. This is probably one of my best blu-ray discs. The space scenes are very crisp and look superb. The non-cgi scenes are slightly grainy but still not as bad as some 'remastered' blu-ray discs I have seen.
If you liked the film and have it on standard dvd and have a blu-ray player I would recomend buying this and getting rid of your standard copy. The improvement is definitly worth it.

Region B ONLY

Just to inform everybody this Blu-ray is locked on Region B. So, if your equipment hasn't been bought in Europe, you will not be able to play it.

Shame Amazon forget to inform on this as this is one of the very firsts Region locked BR available on the UK market.

We meet new friends and old enemies

It is time for the East India Trading Company, vigorously trying to stamp out piracy. The nine pirate leaders must unite or disappear. Unfortunately one pirate leader Captain Sparrow, dead and gone, must be retrieved from Davy Jones' Locker.

A positive character that had a lot of potential is Naomie Harris as Calypso, the sea goddess. She get a big buildup and just as she is about to strike she becomes crabby.

This film has too many plots and sub plots. Too many characters and too many sub characters. Too much graphics and too many Johnny Depp's.

Why can't we get on with the story?
And if this is a trilogy then why all the loose ends that never get tied?


Blu-ray can not make up for a short plot and a long drop.

GREAT FILM

Please, anyone reading this do not pay any attention to the complete idiots who have posted other reviews.

I cannot for the life of me understand why people would think this is the new transformers live action film. For a start the picture on the box clearly shows the cartoon charachters and not the live action charachters. Second it is widely known that transformers will not be out on blu-ray for a very long time.

As for this disc, well as a huge transformers fan I got this and have to say the picture and sound are very good. I have seen better HD pictures but considering how old the film is I was impressed. Very dissapointed as none of the standard definition dvd extras are here but still worth a purchase.

Arnold's best performance - superior action movie.

Predator is a fine story and reasonably well made and filmed. Arnold acts very well in this and far better than some of his colleagues. The alien is beautifully realized and, catchphrase lapses aside ("Knock knock","Stick around" etc) it's really rather plausible.
The Blu-Ray transfer is, I think, very good. The problem is the source material. The film stock and camera work have added a huge amount of grain and 'noise' into the images. I thought, during the opening scenes, that the transfer was very poor but then other scenes appeared that clearly showed a spot on HD image. For example, in the opening scenes the characters are in a tent. The tent scenes look bad but then the action cuts to a map and the map is perfect. It's the original film at fault and not the transfer folks. Some parts of the jungle scenes look great, the attack on the compound for example, whereas others look sub DVD. I think it was a low budget production working in extreme conditions and the quality of the filming suffered as a result. It IS better than DVD though.
What's not better than DVD is the extras. There are none. There are some trailers but those aren't extras they're studio adverts. My DVD copy has a whole extra disc of documentaries and other stuff so why is the much more expensive Blu-Ray version bereft?
In short, worth buying but not massively better than DVD.
