Sony BT 2500 pros and cons

I bought this unit and have installed it.

Please note this unit does not have an autochanger input. I realised this as I was installing it, having already opened it. Not a huge problem as these days I use an iPod.

The sound is excellent, I tried Genesis Live on it and you can hear the guitars clearly.

I compared the build quality to the Sony unit I replaced which served me well for many years, I wonder in the back of my mind if this unit will last that long, looks great but base unit a bit plastic for my liking.

That said for the price, its a great unit.

Poor performer

This little unit from Sony looks OK. It's buttons are large and well laid out. My main complaint is the sound. I bought it to listen to music so the sound quality was the most important factor. Unfortunately it fails to deliver. The sound is tinny and tiny. The 1.7 watts struggle to push out anything but the very basics from my CD's. A real disappointment. Look elsewhere.

i think this nu sony player works and sounds tuff enuff to have ur own rave in the car ,,hahha,,
no seriously i think this is a good quality sound system that u can drive to with ease 1touch bottons and looks great..
my mp3 player works great with it doesnt take long to load any tracks ,,,
reccomended it to many ppl already

CDX- GT410 -A must have stereo!

This is a really great car stereo. It took my son all of 5 mins to fit it into my car, although I did have a Sony in there before so I guess that helps! The instruction book looked a bit scary and I had to really concentrate at first to make sense of it all. However once I went outside and actually started playing with the stereo, it all fell into place very quickly. I love the USB option. I have now returned all my CD's to their rightful place indoors and stick with my tiny little MP3 player. A great feature is the shuffle so I never know what song I get next from about 9 albums on there! I read on here that it doesn't pick up from where it left off with the USB but it does every time for me.
It sounds great, looks nice with the red or green colour option and my kids love messing about with the remote control (not sure if that is good or bad!!)Fantastic price, delivered very quickly (thank you Amazon!),very highly recommended.

great unit from sony

in short, this is a great unit due to easy installation and operation, very powerful sound (even with unamped speakers), brilliant usb feature (works well with my sony NW-E016 walkman, as well as simple flash memory drives), ease of use (sony systems always have simple controls and menus),pretty cool styling, good value for money, useful 7 preset equaliser settings, and remote control (why not?! useful if youre working on your car). great peice of kit in my opinion, especially if you dont intend to amp your speaker as it delivers a very powerful sound (if your speakers are any good).

Replacement

Im really happy with this system.It looks good and sounds great.
The only problem I had was when i installed it i found it tricky to follow the instructions.As this was the first time I ever replaced a radio and i didnt know that on most systems there are only 2 leads rather than 3 (as in my case) but after getting a second opinion i had it installed in a jiffy.

Fitting the sony was quite a straight forward job using the uso connectors.Make sure you get the dab aerial in the correct place because its hard to move once fitted. I would also strongly recommend that you read the manual before fitting.Good sound well laid out good features such as DSO easy to use equalisers.I also got very good results playing my MP3 player through the audio input. If you have a resonable idea of fitting any hi-fi equipment together, then I would see no problem fitting this item DIY.

Purchased this item as a gift, so it as yet has not been installed. I would like to say though this is an excellant looking product and so reasonably priced for such a high end product from a brand leader such as Sony. Company was excellant to deal with being delivered in under 24 hours from time of order and even included a tracking service. I have looked for any negatives but the only thing I can say is that my brother may raise an eyebrow when he sees the pink box but You cant have everything, just nearly in this case.

Sony MEX BT5000 - Quality, Quality, Quality

As I said in the title, what a quality piece of equipment, looked at some pioneer bluetooth stereos, believe me they are not a patch on this item.

All the buttons feel great, the joystick feels solid. The sound quality is fantastic. The bluetooth phone quality is excellent (I use a Nokia 8800).

I bought this item as a result of the other review (which is much more detailed than mine) and he was spot on in all his comments.

My only negative would be the lack of a motorised face, but hey for the money who am I kidding.

If your thinking of getting one of these, don't hesitate, you'll not be disappointed.

Great, but flawed

I purchased this headunit mainly for the USB capabilities, to then find that they are vastly flawed.

For example, you take your USB stick, and upload some albums onto it. One folder for begins with the letter"S" and the other begins with the letter"V". If, two days later you want to upload an album beginning with"S" you'll be forgiven for thinking it is simple. For when you transfer the"S" folder over, this gets placed at the end of the list as the headunit sorts the folder list via time and date as opposed to character!

This means if wish to keep your folder-hierarchy in alphabetical order therefore making it easy to search your MP3s you have to transfer all the files over to your computer that are on the USB stick. Then add the one folder to this list, and re-transfer everything over...a very time consuming task if you are using an 8GB USB flash drive!

You can probably get around it by creating folders labelled A-Z, and then only re-transferring the artists that you are effecting into these folders, but you shouldn't have to!

It is such a shame, as it is a very beautiful unit, CD player works perfectly, radio is crystal clear, the multi-function wheel makes it easy to change radio station/tracks while you keep your eyes on the road, the USB load up time is great, and would in all respects be worth 4.5/5 or 5/5, but for the very obvious design flaw that they've let creep in I've had to knock off 2 stars.

SONY HEAD UNIT

this is a bargain price... i bought my one in halfords and it was £180.00, so i was gutted to see it here £70 cheaper...

the head unit its self is nice, well made, nice feel to it, and easy to use..... however there does not seem to be seperate bass & trebble controls and instead you can select frequencies that you want the speakers to respond to, which is ok i guess.......
also it relied on you slecting"modes" of music to listen to , like"pop, rock, vocal" etc, where as i'd prefer to have a straightforward plus or minus for the trebble & bass..... however its ok.

you can also display various"graphics" on the screen while the music is playing.... this is very"chavvy" in my opinion so just set it to a frequency pattern rather than the other options...

also the aux input... they should supply the lead with the head unit for this, i think it would also be better having a fixed aux lead from the back of the head unit. as it is... everytime you take the face off, you have to unplug it....

id prob spend the £180.00 on a better model buying online... but £112 for this is good.

good system

have this radio myself, got it a few weeks ago and it works nicely, can't say anymore than mr evil as he has covered all, but i do find that using the disc, when powered off mine remembers where on the track it stopped but using the usb or memory card it, as mr evil says, returns to the start of the track, not that annoying. The info flashes up nicely in blue along the front of the radio, track name, artist, album etc, nearly too much info but makes a pleasant change to looking at a dull display. Easy fitted, good sound, good value for money, if you want a good system that allows you to use usb, sd card reader and disc to player your mp3's wma's then this won't let you down
