good machine nice quick consistant, but i hav big hands nd its hard 2 get in2 clean bottoms of jugs

Great tasting coffee, quickly, without the coffee grounds

I bought this coffee maker after trying a cup of nespresso at a friends. I love fresh coffee, but being the lazy male that I am, can't be bothered with the clearing up; this is a great solution, producing, in my opinion, great tasting coffee everytime.

The machine is very easy to use, turn machine on, place cup on drip tray, insert coffee cartridge, once green button stops flashing (30 secs after machine on), press it once, until it dispenses enough coffee to suit your taste, press green button again, eject used cartridge, turn machine off. Job done!

Cleaning involves removing the drip tray, cleaning it as often as you feel comfortable (daily/weekly?!) and disposing of used cartridges.

Nespresso provide a fantastic variety of different coffees (inc. several good tasting decaf varieties). The cost is 23p a cartridge - you need to judge for yourself whether that is too expensive or not.

I'm happy with my purchase.

Fill your home with the smell of coffee at a reasonable price

I bought this to replace an electric espresso maker I used at home. I have mastered how much to tamp the coffee down depending on how finely it is ground. The coffee temperature is an improvement on my electric machine. Taste is not impaired as long as you do not use too strong a flame as this will cause the coffee to boil in the uppermost compartment. For home use, this is very useful and fills the house with a beautiful smell of coffee. It is easy to clean and sturdier than I expected. I have not used any similar machine to this one. Five stars reflects the price and overall ease of use once mastered.

Excellent but buy the one without the Brita Filter

Decent filter coffee machines are hard to find these days owing to all these coffee pod systems. I bought this as a gift and it has been an excellent purchase. Smart design and highly practical, the water vessel detaches for you to fill it. It also makes good coffee and keeps it at a decent temperature thanks to two settings dependent on the volume you make. My one criticism would be that the hot plate isn't non stick, rather it looks to me like untreated metal so could stain with long term use. But this is minor as it's a fantastic machine. I would suggest though that you get the non Brita version if you can as you'll end up spending on filters that don't get used to their full potential. If you want filtered water buy a Brita jug and use the water from that for coffee and everything else, it'll be the same running cost.

fab! timer is useful, easy dispenser, durable product

I've had this for 3 years now and we only now have to buy a new 'permanent filter.' It's a great product. Brews quickly, has a reliable timer when you need to wake up to the smell of coffee, and we are very pleased with it. Dishwasher safe as well - bonus.

Well made but with significant disappointing design faults

I thought we were splashing out when we bought this machine for £49 but while the quality of manufacture is good this device has four features that bug me every day that we use it.

Firstly there is no timer, so if you forget to turn it off it remains hot indefinitely.

Secondly the jug is particularly rubbish at pouring so you have to wipe up drips of coffee from your work surface every single time you pour.

Thirdly it would be nice if it had a reusable filter so that you don't need to use paper filters.

Finally the design isn't clever enough to know that if you take the jug out to pour a coffee then it should stop dripping coffee onto the hot plate, so if you are foolish enough to want a cup of coffee before it has finished making a jug then it just splashes away onto the hot plate until you replace the jug. You can imagine what this looks like after you have owned the machine for a few months, even if you try to clean it rigorously.

Great coffee maker

I've had this for a while now and it makes great coffee; if you ignore measuring and just pour in the beans! Yes cleaning it is a pain, and why the design allows steam back into the grinder is beyond me, but generally I thoroughly recommend it. Finding somehere that sells replacement carbon filters however.....

Never have coffee looked this good

This is a true marvel of simplicity! Eva Solo have brilliantly designed a quick and easy way to make really good coffee. In the time it takes to make a cup of tea you can make a full pot, or in this case a carafe, of fresh and aromatic coffee. And as a bonus for busy people it takes no time to clean. You can even put it in the dishwasher if you don't have time for 2 minutes of hand washing. If this doesn't convince you take a look at it. It gives style to coffee that no espresso machine can ever match. Scandinavian design at it's best!

awkward water tank

Not bad for the money, but to remove the water tank to fill it you need to remove the drip tray - which the instructions do not make clear. It is still then very awkward to get out and put back - bad design. Gaggia Evolution is a much better machine for not much more

Solid and elegant but not a good coffee maker

Cuisinart make elegant and wellmade appliances and this is no exception. It has a thoughtful timer facility and you get the impression that a lot of thought has gone into its design, at least from reading the instructions.
But the problem here is that the design is cosmetic only. When it comes to practical coffee making there are many shortcomings.
I did a direct comparison between this unit and our old Bosch coffee maker, here are the results: Filling the chamber is tricky because the lid does not fold back very far. It is very difficult with the bulky insulated flask provided. It is hard to see how much water you have added to the reservoir as there is no external see-through wall. It takes its time in producing the coffee. The coffee is not particularly hot despite the insulated flask when compared to the old Bosch.
And now the big one - IT MAKES DREADFUL COFFEE. The direct comparison with the Bosch (and I mean exactly the same amount of water, coffee grounds, milk etc) produced a great cup from the Bosch and a tasteless pale brown nasty brew from the Cuisinart.
