If you are looking for a low cost EASY TO CLEAN fryer.......this is it!!!

Dont let the other reviews put you off.....if you only fry occasionally - buy this one AND if you have a dishwasher......its a must......all the grubby bits can go in (which then come out sparkly).

All domestic fryers are a bit difficult to fill/empty that is to be expected.....this empties okay and there's a special corner to use so it doesnt splash every where.

would recommend....have had no problems with it.....TIP...if you have an extractor over your cooker....put it on the hob on a glass"WORKTOP SAVER"...95% of the smells are drawn out immediatley.

Just Right

I bought this item as in the picture it looked clean and the information seemed to be all I was looking for. The item arrived in good time as is usual from Amazon and I have to say I am more than pleased with it.

The basket size is perfect and allows for nearly ½ Kg of frozen chips to be cooked easily at one time. The window gives a good view of the item cooking. I have done chips many times and they always cook evenly and to the same standard time after time. The item is easy to clean and the thing I really like is even with near max oil the fryer still seems very light weight.

If like me you find yourself looking for a fryer that is fuss free then this is the one for you.

It has to be said that this is a very good read. By all means buy it and enjoy it. Everyone (now) knows how hard SAS selection is and more or less of what it mostly consists (leaving out the bit about how they are said by some to use animals to practise on cutting throats--not in this book). You will not be bored by this book.

Having said the above, one often feels that the major achievement of SAS selection is to make those who get through it feel that (like members of the Legion Etrangere para force) all other members of the human world are inferior to some degree. If you took"McNab" at face value, you would believe these people to be the fittest, most intelligent, most capable people in the UK, if not the world. Um, er, why then do some very many of them fall flat on their faces, get put in prison or end up going off their heads and/or killing themselves once they have to fend for themselves in the sharkpool of civilian life? One has also to remember that a few ex-SAS, more senior than McNab (eg. Peter Ratcliffe) have heavily criticized McNab and (even more so) others who have put pen to paper.

This book details the selection, training and operations of Special Air Service personnel and, as said above, is a highly recommended read. But read it with a little skepticism. Finally, I had to laugh that so many versions of this and McNab's other works are on audio cassette, making one wonder whether (a la the fans of Frederick Forsyth) his readers often find reading a bit hard.

Nice Looking fryer.Fryer very easy to use.Oil stays very clean after many uses. Chips very crisp and tasty. Easy to use timer.Nice and light.
Very easy to clean as everything comes apart effortlessly.
Would highly recommend as it's great value from Amazon at under fourty quid.

Unreliable

I bought one of these from Argos and within a monthe I was replacing it because it just stopped working. The replacement item has also just stopped working after several months so i am totally unimpressed considering the price of it. Think I'll stay away from Philips products in the future.

Poor build quality

I bought this steamer about 18 months ago. Within a few months the handle of the lid came off which I have had to glue back on. After that one of the baskets started to crack. Since then 2 of the baskets have cracked so bad that they fell to pieces. The last basket is badly cracked also and is no longer safe to use. Two of the feet have also fallen off making the machine unstable on the kitchen surface.

The actual cooking ability of the steamer is great. It is easy to use (except for the annoyingly inadequate overflow draw at the back) and very quick. Shame it falls apart!

Good product

Overall a good product that produced excellent results in a short time.

I would not hesitate to recomend this but I would point out two things.

1. The Basket has a Bracket that doubles as the Max food level for holding the food above the oil for draining excess oil and loading. This works fine. However there is no bracket for holding the basket in the cooking position. The Basket sits on the heating element. If Morphy Richards had just put a small gap between the top ring of the basket and the mesh just between the handle then the basket would sit on the same holder as previously mentioned and hold basket and food just a little above the element which would minimise wear and tear.

2. The unit has two small capiliary wires that run parallel to the heating elements conecting to the thermal cut out sensors that are attached to the heating element under the cooking basket. These would seems best out of the way behind the heating element so as not to come in contact with the basket and become subject to wear and tear. In the product we recived they were taught with one coming out over the heating element. This was resoved by slightly pushing the unit that holds the thermal sensors back along the heating element by 1/2 CM towards the control unit and then moving the capiliary wires. This should not have been required in a new unit.

Now for the Positve things.

The unit heats up really quickly and the quality of the food that comes out is really good. Best chips I have had in a long time came out really well. Nice and crispy with a puffy centre. also did roast potatos really well.

The unit is easy to dismantle and clean.

The temperature dial is very easy to use. temperature settings labels are behind a small window so will not rub off.

Overall I thing for the price the unit was good purchase and I would recomend it.

rubbish

A rubbish fryer! Try and cook the recommended weight (200gms)of frozen chips and watch foaming oil flow all over the worktop despite a statement that you can increase beyond the recommended weight without problem. There is no warning in the handbook about foaming and the manufacturer said"you must defrost and dry the chips before cooking and we expect customers to use their common sense regarding our products"!

this fryer is amazing!....
after struggling with my old fryer i was amazed after receiving this little gem which produced a big basket of beautiful chips in under 10 minutes (my old one took 30)
takes only a couple of minutes to heat up & i have not used the top temperature as it is too hot (maybe for frozen food)
buy one..you wont regret it!!

Yes it's Big-but I like it!

I think this is the best fryer I have ever had! I have never had a problem with any spillages or faulty bits. I bought it in Costco (wholesaler)last year, it cost me about 50 quid or thereabouts. Much cheaper than the High Street and if Im not happy I get a no-quibble money back guarantee. I know that not everyone can get to a costco and I have to admit that I wouldnt normaly spend £99 on a chip pan, however if you have room for it its a good product.
