VIVITAR V5024 5MP 2.4" TFT 8X DIGITAL ZOOM ANTI-SHAKE RED

New Price: £27.00

Review for VIVITAR V5024 5MP 2.4" TFT 8X DIGITAL ZOOM ANTI-SHAKE RED:
Not up to the job
It didn't cost much to buy this and there is a reason for that! I bought this for a 5 year old and she manages ok with a little help selecting the right settings (there aren't many with this camera). The photos it takes outdoors on a bright day are ok but I wouldn't want to print them, the quality seems poor. Indoor shots are terrible quality even with the flash... it either doesn't light the subject properly and image is underexposed or it is too powerful and bleaches the subject out. The quality of the lcd screen is also terrible. I feel like I've been robbed! Don't waste your money buying this.

VIVITAR V5024 5MP 2.4" TFT 8X DIGITAL ZOOM ANTI-SHAKE BLACK

Used Price: £27.76
New Price: £26.00

Review for VIVITAR V5024 5MP 2.4" TFT 8X DIGITAL ZOOM ANTI-SHAKE BLACK:
A cheap camera
An inexpensive camera but very limited in functionality, but for the money I suppose one can't complain.
Does get a bit battery hungry if you use the flash, or video recording.
If you want more control over shutter, aperture, or focus, this isn't the camera for you.
As they in the advert, it does what it says on the tin..... which is it takes pictures.

Really should come with even a basic case though..... and perhaps a bit more information in the sales blurb regarding its very basic functionality.

Swan S3000-ORANGE CoolPix 12 Megapixels Digital Camera with 4x Anti-Blur in Orange

New Price: £89.99

Review for Swan S3000-ORANGE CoolPix 12 Megapixels Digital Camera with 4x Anti-Blur in Orange:
Rubbish camera
I bought this as a replacement for an Olympus Camedia mainly because it was a lot smaller, the controls seemed obvious to use, it had 12 megapixels and, OK, I liked the colour (blue)! What a disappointment! Whatever are Nikon playing at? The picture quality is poor despite all those megapixels. Nikon claims a macro facility with focusing down to 3" - the closest I could get was more like 15", which is by not macro by any stretch of the imagination. DON'T BUY THIS CAMERA. IT'S RUBBISH - and doesn't do what it says on the tin!!! I've gone back to using my elderly Camedia

MINOX - DCC LEICA M 3 5,0

New Price: £89.99

Review for MINOX - DCC LEICA M 3 5,0:
Lovely toy
I'm afraid it is only a toy with toy performance. As a Minox buff, I was very disappointed, but it is a lovely toy all the same. No lens cover available but a screw cap from a modern wine bottle fits perfectly and is more fun to replace when lost!

G E X5 14.1 Megapixel Digital Camera with 15x Zoom Lens in Black

New Price: £113.99

Review for G E X5 14.1 Megapixel Digital Camera with 15x Zoom Lens in Black:
GE X5
I looked at the Nikon 110 (great name but expensive) The Fuji S1600 (had some bad reviews and was £30 -£40 more than the X5 - although the Fuji has HD video) so, at the price the X5 was the one I want for.

Seems well built - the controls are easy to use, you will need to read the PDF manual to get the most out of the camera - although on auto it seems to work fine.

Video works well but only SD quality (but if I had wanted HD video I'd buy a video camera)

Zoom is excellent Macro is also good - the auto focus takes a bit of practice (other people have been complaining of blurry pics) but when you have the hang of it it's fine.

Don't expect £500 DSLR performance from this camera - but its a lot better than a point and shoot - it's worth it for the zoom alone in my opinion.

You will need to buy an SD memory card and some rechargeable batteries to make the most of this camera.

Fujifilm Finepix J15 FD

Used Price: £45.00
New Price: £79.98

Review for Fujifilm Finepix J15 FD:
Decent Camera but comes without memory card
Doesn't come with a memory card, had to buy one separately. Also doesn't charge while connected to USB which seems a little weak.

Core functionality is good though.

SPEEDO AQUASHOT 5MP 2.4" TFT WATERPROOF LI-ION - LIME

New Price: £80.00

Review for SPEEDO AQUASHOT 5MP 2.4" TFT WATERPROOF LI-ION - LIME:
Looks great but very disappointing
I bought this as an underwater-only camera for a holiday in Thailand and really wish I'd waited until I'd seen some reviews. I know that sub-£200 underwater cameras are generally very poor out of the water and this is certainly no exception: its out-of-the-water shots are very grainy with ridiculously muted colours and look like they could have been taken with an early cameraphone. In contrast, the underwater pics are actually pretty good (clear and good colour balance) but the almost useless LCD screen and totally nonsensical menu system mean that you might as well be taking photos with a blindfold on. In any sunlight at all, it is almost impossible to see what you've already taken (eg. to check if you've got the shot you were after or if the camera is even working) and if the camera gets shaken, the memory card regularly loses contact inside its slot and the camera starts using its tiny internal memory (about 12 photos). Finally, the waterproof flap/catch that houses the battery and memory card is EXTREMELY fiddly and difficult to open/close and feels like it will stop working altogether in a few weeks. Truly pathetic! Wish I'd bought a cheap Fuji or Vivitar model instead... at least they actually make cameras for a living! (PS: Sadly, it does float very well.)

Kodak EasyShare DX4530 Digital Camera [5MP 3xOptical]

Used Price: £45.00

Review for Kodak EasyShare DX4530 Digital Camera [5MP 3xOptical]:
Fantastic
I am pretty new to digital cameras and upgraded from a 2.1MP, the difference is astounding.

I took the camera to a Formula One GP and it took shots like a pro, thanks to it's sport (moving target) mode, I managed to catch the cars coming past me on the main Monza straight at 200+ MPH. I have had no experience doign this and I am amazed with the results.

Still closeups are also beautiful. I am just really pleased and I really do not know why people need to pay any more.

Save money, buy this camera, you won't be disapointed!

Canon PowerShot G5 Digital Camera [5MP 4xOptical]

Used Price: £30.00

Review for Canon PowerShot G5 Digital Camera [5MP 4xOptical]:
A legend
It's early 2006 and I've recently taken my ten thousandth image with my Canon G5 and from image one it has been a joy to use. It still looks mint and style wise in my opinion it's great looking, a bit like a rangefinder Leica, I think - far more purposeful looking than the higher spec G6.

BUT it's that dreaded upgraditis time that affects us digital photographers and on and off I've spent ages considering a suitable replacement. It's taking so long as the camera is so hard to beat despite it being a long discontinued model. For instance I love the closable LCD screen which is out of harm's way when not in use and the super fast lens (I go to a lot of gigs and there's never much light) and numerous controls and the quality build and so on. It's one fine camera. Searching for a significant upgrade for it has made me acutely aware of how good this camera is and I'm also suffering at the thought of losing it to fund a replacement.

No camera is perfect though, and I'm sure you'll have read about the occasional CA and the obscured viewfinder with this one. yes, it does have its weak points, they all do. But that's about it. Two failings. Oh actually autofocussing in low light at telephoto is a bit ropey at times. Make that three, then.

Yet I have to say that if you see one of these going for a steal and don't feel impelled to have the latest savings-busting monster mega pixel dSLR then go and buy one and you will enjoy having a smart looking camera that gives you stunning photos. The only real problem you'll have with it is when it's eventually time to consider letting it go and it's gonna hurt. I know.

Nikon COOLPIX 5700 Digital Camera [5MP 8xOptical]

Used Price: £145.00

Review for Nikon COOLPIX 5700 Digital Camera [5MP 8xOptical]:
Brilliant clarity
Purchased this camera last year and im really pleased with the results.
The pictures come out clean and crisp and dead on focus.
You do need to keep an eye on the power usage but its normal for most users to buy a spare battery.
The buttons can be a bit fiddly until you get to know the machine but after that it becomes second nature.
Ive given this camera (...) because despite its minor flaws, the quality and precise results and photographic options make this a brilliant purchase that will last you for many years.
The Nikon 5700 has reached iconic status on the market with many examples fetching (...). I say....its a bargain.

Minolta Dimage 7i Digital Camera [5.0MP 7.1xOptical]

Used Price: £125.00

Review for Minolta Dimage 7i Digital Camera [5.0MP 7.1xOptical]:
A fairly good prosumer piece with only a few caveats
The Plusses:
+ 7x optical zoom (manually operated so it doesn't contribute to battery drain)
+ full optional manual exposure control with good range of additional semi-auto modes
+ good range of additional settings gives the camera semi-pro feel, & comprehensive setup menu means irritating defaults (e.g. fake shutter sound) can be effectively disabled, and useful fetures enabled e.g. automatic filing of images by date
+ can store 3 sets of camera settings via memory, very useful for switching quickly between different exposure situations
+ fast previewing and zoom of images during playback
+ good EVF power saving options (essential for minimising battery drain)
+ quite powerful built-in flash
+ screw thread at end of lens to allow mounting of accessories
+ ISO 800 mode facilitates handheld indoor shots in good light without flash, giving a much more natural look to indoor photos

The Minusses:
- auto focus doesn't work well in poor light, night shots require manual focus which is difficult to use due to low pixel resolution in electronic viewfinder, even when using the magnifier tool
- manual focus seems to allow focussing well past the infinity point, which is annoying as it still requires extremely careful focussing of distant subjects
- above two focusing caveats combined mean that focussing distant subjects during the night is a bit of a nightmare
- ISO 800 mode is rather grainy, and the grain doesn't quite have the natural random look of high speed film
- miserly 16MB CF card, incomplete instructions in supplied manual necessitates download of PDF to get the full info
- excessively priced accessories (e.g. electronic cable release, apparently required for taking night shots longer than 4s and up to 30s, don't see why though as one could just as easily use the self timer; luckily though I was able to get a cheap generic digital camera mains power adapter as opposed to Minolta's bespoke one)
- took longer than expected to learn how to use all the features

So overall a faily good piece, somewhat let down by quirky focussing.
