Ive had this camera for a year now and it has given me some excellent family and also some very good macro photos blown up into A3 I would recomend it to anyone especially a novice like myself.

Very good value for the features it provides, in particular the 12x optical zoom. Disappointed with the fuzziness of the image pixels at higher magnification and the lack of manual control for the macro setting. Also found the zoom and focusing controls lacking in response.

Nikon GreatPix

I have had this camera since Feb '06 and used it throughout Scotland as well as trips to Malaysia for scenery and wild life and Czech Republic for MotoGP. With a 1Gb memory card the camera keeps going. The battery life for the ones included are great. The 10x zoom works to get the shots other cameras can't dream of. Sometimes the modes aren't what you expect and if you can, it is best to play around with them. I've managed to get up close and personal with orangutang and catch shots of motorcycles at 100mph (although watching the pro's pan as the bikes pass helped instead of relying on the sports mode). In all I have a great collection of memories thank to the camera (including using the sound clip mode which lets me still hear the sound og the jungle and the deep roar of a Ducati GP motorcycle). You wont be disapointed!!

REVIEW ON NIKON D50

Well!,i have owned over 14 digital cameras so far, from all different brands, like: Canon, fuji, Olympus,Panasonic, Sony and now Nikon. The reason i buy Nikon last is because i work as a fotospecialist for the big newspaper for over 25 yrs now.The company i work for used to have all Nikon gears for over 15 yrs, now they have switched to all Canon gears, due to the fact that Nikon digital has alot of problems with dynamic range and noise. They used to have Nikon D2H series.I personally worked on thousands of Nikon pics back then and i have found that Nikon has bad noise issues and white balance.
I finally decided to sell my Sony R1 and replace with Nikon D50, after about 100 test shots, i found that D50 colors are somewhat fine, but i can see clearly that its lack of dynamic range, its seems to blow hilight details, and shadow end seem to plug, another word its too short of dynamic range.The noise issue seems to be better now at high iso. I use it with my Sigma EX 24-70mm f2.8 one of my sharpest lens, the colors are fine, sharpness on D50 is fine too, but in overall as far as pics quality i think Sony R1 produces better images, but Sony R1 is a slower shooting camera as D50.
The goods, i think D50 has very solid build, compact, fast shooting and fast AF, menu is easy to use, great price.
i paid 330$ for D50 used in demo shape, for the price i cant complain, it does what i expect, a good camera to beat around, when i dont want to lug around my bigger cameras.
I found that d50 compact size is good, but its too small, my pinky finger is hanging out when i shoot, so i bought the generic battery grip holder for it. this will be my back up camera. great camera for anyone who wants to start of with thier 1st DSLR, its price body only is less than most point and shoot cameras.
I compared D50 pics to my Fuji S2 and S3 pros with the same lens, No question asked!, Fuji produces much better quality.
then come my Sony A100 on 2nd place.

Super camera - pity about the plastics

Will start with my dislike - and that's the feel of the plastic. The black plastic really does feel cheap and look as if it'll scratch easily. Whilst it hasn't happened yet, I'll update this review if I find this happens in the future.

Other reviewers were disappointed with the size - it's exactly as I expected and a good deal smaller than the bulky full DSLR at much higher prices. The lens is superb - the 12X works very well with the anti-shake turned on - in fact it's almost unusable without the anti-shake - you'd need to use a tripod all the time.

My older camera was a Canon A80 which also had very good optics, but the Panasonic is far superior. Macro is brilliant. Colours and contrast appear to be spot on and if I use the"I'm feeling lucky" button in Picasa it rarely changes the image by much. (As an aside, I'm a real fan of Picasa from Google, for anyone that hasn't used it)

I'd happily give it 5 stars if it wasn't for the feel of the plastics.

UPDATED 17-SEP-07: After using the camera for the last while I am happy to confirm that my concern about the plastics is unfounded and is not scratching at all. I'm really happy with the camera - have used on holidays, indoors, sports photos, parties etc and it's worked really well throughout.

Samsung’s best digital camera this year!

I purchased the Samsung digimax A6 a few months ago for £265 and have to say this is Samsung’s best camera till date!! The high quality 3x zoom SHD lens gives excellent definitaion of photos as well perfect video recording with 30 frames per second. The generous 32MB internal memory is more than enough to get you started if you’re a first time user. Compare this with other makes such as olympus and vivitar which only give 16MB on a 6 megapixel. Resolution on this camera is the best and pictures turn out 10x better than real life. The large 1.8" LCD screen allows you to capture more area where the standard 1.5" misses out. Its a nice compact and lightweight camera with many features. I’d recommend this camera to anyone who wants quality photos.

I am a very amateur photographer who has accumulated masses of photos over the years using 35mm SLRs.

I decided to go down the digital SLR route after using a compact digital camera as I found I could learn and correct any errors very quickly and got to like to see my results straight away .... and to be able to delete the rubbish !.

I"pushed the boat out" and bought the Nikon after doing several weeks of research and price-checking and to say that I am not dissapointed is an understatement. My only one critism is that the camera does not currently come with a data card included.

The camera has a variety of modes for different circumstances and having recently taken it on it's first trip out to the RIAT airshow at Fairford, my shots of the fast-moving aircraft were streets-ahead of anything I have ever managed with traditional film. I suddenly take pictures like a pro and can use the digital technology to share, print, publish etc. with ease.

I do not see how I will ever outgrow this camera and like it's flexibility and set up. It even uses my Nikon and Sigma lenses from my old Nikon 35mm SLR so saves me having to replace my lenses.

All in all I am over the moon with the outcome and can't recommend srongly enough....

Truly an awesome piece of kit and worth every penny .....

Had real problems with this camera!

I purchased this camera earlier ths year, when it arrived it worked very well and the quality of photo was superb, it was easy to use and I was very happy with the item. However only aroud a month later the camera froze and would no longer turn on or function at all. I put this down to misfortune and amazon promptly replaced my faulty camera. Once again the camera performed very well for a few weeks and then once again froze and would no longer function. I had previously thought of sony as a quality make and with this is mind expected the item to be of a high qualiy, however i would not recomend anybody to purchase this particular model of cybershot camera.

You get more than you pay for

At first I was dissapointed with the size of the camera, it's not the best looker in the world. But boy has it got some features _ I will be happy to use it in manual mode all the time so that I can adjust it for depth of field or low light just as I can on my old SLR and the thing is it it so simple to operate - that is after the intial set-up. I don't know why manufacturers have to use cute icons instead of words as you have to keep going to the manual (no book here it is in pdf format off a CD) so it is tedious, but once done to the settings you want it is then so easy to operate. If you don't want the advanced settings then the point and shoot auto features and handy dial for night shots, portraits and lanscape etc are ideal - at the end of the day you would find it hard to see any real difference between the pre-sets and manual shots. In closing I think that despite its looks you and lack of intuitive set-up you are getting an awful lot for your money in the quality if the shots. It also has a whole load of storage and printing programs on the CD that comes with it - you will love them or hate them, although there is a nice stitch utility that wil put several pictures into a panoramic view. Last thing - it uses good old AA batteries (this contributes to the overal size odf course)so it deosn't matter where you are in the world you can get hold of them plus it takes cheap MMC memory cards as well as SD card. I think we are both going to be very happy - word of warning get hold of a hard case to protect it, it is quite heavy and therefore will not survive a fall (like my last camera didn't).

I agree that the camera only takes very grainy pictures unless it is extremely bright (as the other reviewer says). Even on the higher exposure 'indoor' settings, quality doesn't improve.

My particular camera has had all sorts of problems for no reason I can see. I'd understand if it malfunctioned as a result of rough treatment or exposure to liquid etc, but I honestly do not know why I've had these problems, it just seems fragile.

It turns on and then off again, and the lens cover does not retract and close, and then didn't turn on at all, which means that I have had to send it back to kodak once already, only to find that after working for a few hours, all the same problems recurred. When I tried to use the USB cable to download to my computer, the camera was not recognised (easy-share software of no use for that problem).

The on-line help treats everyone like they can barely find the on button, (ie. only covers very basic problems), and the diagnosis it offers is that I may have a"power problem", which I already knew.

I appreciate that my experience may just be my bad luck, but I would not say that this is reliable and well-made overall. The picture quality in average (not particularly low) light alone justifies complaints.

I gave it one star because it has a good zoom and the potential to actually be a decent little video clip camera with the 2GB memory card I bought to go with it. But when I think about it, I only resorted to short clips because the picture quality was so bad anyway.

My future contact with Kodak will be a real test to see whether the company really means what it says about customer service. I will have to send it back again (another 3 months of waiting) and ask for a complete refund or replacement. Without wishing to seem vexatious, I also dislike the fact that the support phone line insist that you call an 0870 number (from which kodak makes money) and then keep you on hold, but that's standard for a lot of companies these days, but also a sign of how serious it is about support.

If there is anyone else who has had experiences, then do please be a good consumer and write reviews. It is always good to know that you are not alone, or see lots of happy people out there which gives you a sense of whether this really is extremely bad luck or a common complaint.

Anyway, despite it being very small and sleek on the outside, in retrospect I would not be seduced and go for a different camera. We've had a clunky little fuji that has been really great for 4 years, so this kodak 'upgrade' for the £250 or so I paid for it at the time was a huge disappointment.

A little grainy on the screen but otherwise a good budget camera

That's why I'm giving it 4 stars. Otherwise a fab wee budget camera. Easy to use (shame you couldn't have all the instructions printed but maybe I'm old fashioned?) but does what most people would need something like this to do. Okay so it doesn't have 101 modes like other more expensive makes/models, but then do you really need them? It has one mode where you can just change virtually every setting to suit your needs. So why be lazy. I like where the buttons are and it's easy to use. You don't have to be a genius to get to grips with this.

It can also shoot in sepia and black and white which again maybe basic but I started on an aps about 8 years ago and such things weren't available then without losing a load of film!

Apart from the grainiess of the screen the only other downside is that the batteries don't last long. So invest in rechargeable ones etc. Otherwise if you're a keen amateur it's going to cost you a fortune!

But that's about it. On the whole a good, basic budget camera which by Pentax whom I've had good compact cameras off in the past.

Cheap camera with average results

Bought this camera almost an year ago. Results were never consistently satisfactory. Flash seems to be slow in response and less powerful, giving dull pictures. Had a fault with the auto-focus recently and luckily getting rid of it as it is still under warranty.
