Here are the observations of the fresh convert to SLRs:

- I recommend to buy this model over the 3000 series because with the latter there is a risk of getting a grip of it within 6-12 months and wanting to buy more sophisticated version which, you may agree, is rather costly.
- although I was initally intimidated by the ample number of functionalities described in 200+ page manual, the camera is rather simple to operate and one can switch fairly effortlessly from one mode of photography to another. I bumped into an elephant on a walk (not in Scotland !) and was able to take pictures in various premutation within each of the major modes (A, M, S, etc) over the space of 10 mins
- it was (and may be still is) better value than the largely equivalent Canon model (some GBP100+)
- it has high ISO sensitivity- 3200, which I understand is almost double of that of canon cameras. I heard a complaint from frustrated Canon owner that the latter's factor is more towards 1500 or 2000. This allowed me to film elephant at night and pictures turned out just fine !

Great little camera

I am so happy with my Canon Ixus 130 camera as it is so slim and stylish. Picture quality is really good and also the video recording facility which I use a lot and download onto my laptop. The camera is instantly easy to use after a quick run through. Would prefer the zoom button to be the flat rocking type rather than the plastic stick bit sticking up on the top of the camera, but I suppose I can live with that.Very light and slim camera and looks great when in a skin pouch and easy to carry around even in a small evening handbag. The zoom is amazing and much better than I had expected as can have amazing detail in the picture if you wish.

Warning

Camera displayed"Card Error" message when a SDHC card was introduced. Card was changed without success. Camera was exchanged but the fault stll existed.
I therefore returned the camera for a refund.
Shame as I loved the look of the camera and it would have been my third Fujifilm camera.

i just received this camera and i am extremely dissapointed in the technical detail part up there it says High Definition Image capture at 16:9 and Video capture with sound at 720p BUT YOU CAN ONLY TAKE PICTURES YOU CANNOT DO VIDEO CAPTURE THESE PEOPLE ARE LYING. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS USELESS THING. WHY PUT THAT DOWN SAYING Video capture with sound at 720p AND LYING TO PEOPLE.

Rubbish camera

I bought this as a replacement for an Olympus Camedia mainly because it was a lot smaller, the controls seemed obvious to use, it had 12 megapixels and, OK, I liked the colour (blue)! What a disappointment! Whatever are Nikon playing at? The picture quality is poor despite all those megapixels. Nikon claims a macro facility with focusing down to 3" - the closest I could get was more like 15", which is by not macro by any stretch of the imagination. DON'T BUY THIS CAMERA. IT'S RUBBISH - and doesn't do what it says on the tin!!! I've gone back to using my elderly Camedia

Zoom is a bit dodgy

I recently purchased this after seeing it on the Hollyoaks adverts.
It's a really compact little camera and great if you're just out with friends on the beach or out walking.
The picture quality is good but I don't think people should have such high expectations for a cheap camera. I knew I just wanted a camera to capture quick moments like sunsets and not to have really detailed pictures. I think if that is the overall thing you're after then this camera isn't for you.

I like it but my only problem is the zoom.
I've noticed that when I turn the camera on and attempt to zoom in quickly, the camera can't cope and seems to lock itself and a message appears on the screen saying 'lens error' which is quite irritating. This happens quite a lot with mine but I've learnt to just take my time with it.

So overall a great quality camera. If you want amazing pictures and quick reactions then this camera probably isn't the one for you.

Improves with practise!

Have had this camera for just over a week.Upgrading from Ixus 90IS, which is a very good camera.This one is better, with great image quality, but needs practise.Had read about the loose wheel on the back, but thought I could handle it. Wrong! In P mode it is so easy to go from AutoISO to 3200 with one little touch! Did this to my cost on important shoot.Now use Aperture priority mode with front ring set to zoom or Exp comp. This leaves the rear wheel giving aperture control, which somehow gives a firmer feel to the ring. Also, less damage can be done. It is a shame the wheel cannot be disengaged, except in Auto mode. But then nothing can be altered at all, and the camera has a tendency to shoot up ISO values like mad - even with flash. Which brings me to another tip - When engaging flash (hopefully not often) set ISO manually to 100 or 200 - or the camera will use a very high ISO, resulting in over exposure.
I also recommend decreasing screen brightness by a notch - and power off in 20 seconds to help what is a thirsty battery. Canon's NB5L battery would have been a better bet for this camera. I have already recharged four times, but that is probaby down to a great deal of play.
However, when set right, the images are great, and Canon have at least succeeded in producing a compact giving near DSLR quality - which was their intention in the first place. Because of this, I still award five stars in spite of the foibles. If you want great compact image quality, then buy it. You won't be disappointed.

this camera is easy to use and the instructions are clear and precise. unfortunately i had problems downloading the software, but this appears to be a problem with microsoft, and they are distincly unhelpful.

Good camera

I have been a fan of canon digital camera and so far I have bought 4 of them. All in different categories and different price range. I was so happy with this one, I bought two of them and gifted one to my sister and another one to my brother in law.

I am so proud of my gifts to my folks after seeing what pictures they have clicked with this small little genius. Canon has yet again delivered a beauty with this one. They are making such good camera with an affordable price tag that its the bill perfectly. Please do not compare this camera with EOS series or such range from other makers, if you are then you are fooling yourself. This camera is way better than other pocket cameras with the features on this camera, the richness of the colour , the depth of picture, the 10 X optical zoom and the big LCD just delivers it all.

My only issue is particularly not with this camera but with Canon digital cameras in general that why on earth are they still having Victorian age concept of AA batteries when world has moved to Lithium batteries like Sony. This is last chink in the armour, if they are able to resolve this, they will be just brilliant and this camera would get 5 star but for now I will stick to 4 star rating for this one.

Quick story. I was asked if I rated Kodak digital cameras. I said nope, get one of the bigger names. That person ignored my advice since she liked the redish colour of the camera - some great reason to buy a camera I know. Well I eat my words. It was reduced in price and it is excellent value for money. over 12 meg images, raw, jpeg, video and so easy to use. One other thing the panoramic facility is excellent. Its so easy to use.

I see that another reviewer moans about not being able to see the display in sunlight - well thats a problem with most cameras but for this price I am not going to worry. Now I am about to buy a Leica X1 or should I try the Kodak? Just kidding - Leica for me very day but I am knocked out on the value of this excellent Kodak camera.

% stars give but one thing that does irritate me - why no sd card with the camera. Its like buying a torch without batteries. Luckily my friend realised that there was no sd card in it and bought one from Boots (Now come one would you wait 24 hours for Amazon to deliver at a lower price?)

Great product-exactly as I expected. Wanted a simple point and shoot camera that delivered good quality photos,got exactly that.Easy to use-I'm a real technophobe but refuse to read manuals but still managed to operate basic functions.

The first one I received was badly packaged and damaged.However after e-mailing through the returns procedure at Amazon I received a perfect new one.I had tried one out in a local shop before buying one so I new it was the one I wanted.The pictures it produces are great.I haven't tried all the features yet but it has enough to be going on with.The shutter delay is very short,which was a major deciding factor for me.I had occasion to use a camera to photograph my daughter getting an award years ago using a new,at the time,digital camera.It came out alright but I missed the shot I wanted because of the shutter delay.Now modern cameras have a burst function where ten shots are taken at once.However they don't all use the full mega-pixel rating of the camera.A niggly problem I had, though nothing to do with the camera, was the instruction manual.There isn't one, you have to download it.I thought it a bit poor that I should have to carry a fistful of A4 sheets with me to refer to.I phoned Fuji and they were more than happy to supply me with the proper pocket-sized book free of charge.Now why can't they supply one with the camera?I gave it 5 stars because of the service I received as much as the quality of the product,which is great.

This camera is excellent, very compact, lightweight. I have found"getting to grips" with the functions fairly straight forward. I certainly do not regret my purchase.

Sony DSCH55B Cyber Shot Digital camera

Outstanding camera does everything it claims and more, it gives outstanding results picture quality second to none. Only niggle is that it doesn' have a eye piece for framing your picture you have to use the LCD screen however this seems to be the case with most of the Sony range of cameras. Do not let this put you off its without doubt the best little digital camera around and incredible value for money from Amazon.

Reliable, compact, feature packed and easy to use

Firstly I must declare that I am a bit of a pentax fan, and therefore perhaps a little biased. I do also though, know a fair bit about photography being a keen photographer (using pentax and samsung DLSRs).

I bought this for my now wife to use on our honeymoon, and she loved it as soon as she saw it. It really is very compact, and very very easy to use. My wife was getting to grips with it and some of the more advanced features straight away.

Pros:
- Good image quality in good lighting conditions
- Very compact and simple to use
- Very quick to start up and be ready to shoot
- 5 x optical zoom with pentax lens (always regarded as makers of some of the best glass)
- Panoramic stitching works very well and gives a choice of the sequence of shots
- Compatible with wifi sd cards

Cons:
- Image quality in low light not great (because of high noise levels which creep in when the camera switches to higher iso settings)
- Images can be on the softer side
- Battery life is average (better than AAs but heavy use over a couple days required re-charge)

A brilliant camera

It is possible to buy cheaper cameras but this little Sony is superb. The intelligent auto function does all the work for you and in any event the camera is very easy to use. It is also small enough and light enough to carry in a shirt pocket.

I am glad I did with the 30 times zoom I can take any picture I like
just did my sons wedding Close ups, family groups the lot and all framed with out constant moving about
also got some great close ups of the wild life in the garden can shoot from far enough away without distubing them & on silent mode it makes no sounds (obviously)
