Rubbish

Good things - sounds ok and you can record on it.
Bad things - the controls are slow and frustrating and totally illogical. It's slow - it will take ages to catch up with what you want it to do and then it gets confused. Mine keeps freezing on me and the manual of course doesn't tell you how to reset. Oh and the best thing is that the clock on it is wrong but I can't change it - so when I try to record using timed event it will miss the first couple of minutes. Pure have told me to amend the timed event e.g. for a programme starting at 12 set the time for 11.58!!

Roberts have a winner

I've been waiting for a DAB radio which is small and handy to move around the house (like the transistor radios of my childhood) and was going to buy a Pure One Mini when they finally hit the shops. But then I found this new Roberts radio. I'm so glad I found it before I'd bought the Pure radio.

Not only is the solar DAB an excellent radio for taking around the house, and outside too, it also can be powered by the sun (the clue's in the name). What could be better?

Add to that the exciting range of colours and the lovely, soft touch, rubberised controls which are very easy to use and I don't think there's a better little DAB radio on the market.

Great value for money

I wanted a little DAB radio for work and needed one that worked by batteries as well as mains power, alot of DAB radios got bad reviews for having low battery life, then i stumbled across this little gem and have been very impressed so far.
Well done to Roberts for making an outstanding radio!!

Rather disappointing

Good selection and capture of DAB signal. Quite easy to use.
Sound is rather woolly and"boxy", but acceptable for bedside listening. Having two stereo speakers in a box 10 inches wide seems pointless. The unit has a clock and Sleep facility, but surprisingly no Alarm function. Display is very bright in a dark room and a dim facility would be useful.

Good DAB PLayer

This player is my first encounter with DAB and it is great the way it opens a whole new world of radio stations.

Sound is very clear but the speakers could be better. It is better for spoken word than music but still great sound.

It's good that you can still receive all the BBC FM radio stations as well so get Radio 1 as well as Digital 6Music.

Was never previously a big fan of spoken word programmes but with clarity of DAB it makes them more appealing and some of comedy on BBC7 is great!

All in a great portable player than can run on batteries as well as mains supply. Well worth it.

Possibly the worst Sony product in the world...

Despite normally loving (and owning) many Sony products this one is one I Wish I had not bought. My gripes are as follows:
The reception is awful, it drops signal frequently even when cycling in central London. As for on a train...forget it!

It does not come with a case.

I often have to re-program the Fav's.

All in all, don't buy it. I wish I had returned it to Amazon within the time limits.

Brilliant

My wife gave me one of these for christmas and it's brilliant. Great reception and sound, so easy to use. Great to be able to listen to Virgin radio again in clear stereo. Should have bought a DAB a couple of years ago.

Dont underestimate it

back in 1986 i bought one of the first PLL digital read out SW scanners .. the 7600D. i call it a scanner as thats what it does. ive just bought the latest & apparently the last in the line of SW radios to be made by Sony. its a shame. i think the radio still has a way to go .. and this is surprising after 20 years on. my impression of the GR model is much the same. the memories are now 100 compared to ten back in 86. the selectivity is better on the GR model by far. SSB resolution is much better & the BFO arrangement works much better .. but the step tuning still stinks. for me SW & AM listening needs good tuning .. but the Sony fails somewhat.
saving your favorite FQY is a shame when returning u have to select the mode .. AM SSB USB LSB ??? too many options. not fast.too much switching.
The selectivity / filtering on AM is much better on the GR radio. comparing the old & new u can easily hear the filter working ... which makes listening of 2 close signals easier on the ears. the sensitivity is about the same .. still requiring a better outside aerial to improve things ... but thats not a big deal here. even taking the radio outside helps but is not the complete cure. VHF fm band is still wide like the old model .. but being wide will give better FQY response.
overall the radio is good. i trust in the Sony as a SW radio. its a solid radio .. not too big .. but not quite small enough to take in your pocket. the color scheme being silver makes a change from the laid back mid-grey color of my 7600D. the case is rounded & handling the radio is has a soft feel. the"lock" is handy when in transit .. as is the dial lamp. personally ive never used the alarm. the clock requires no extra batteries as the early version did & ive read the memories stay saved when the batteries are taken out. i use NI-MH AA cells so theres no interference from a dc adaptor. the aerial does wobble on the case so im hoping it doesnt fall off.
MY VERDICT :
my old 7600D impressed me. for a radio of this size .. being portable gave incredible good results. the 7600GR model is very similar. it appears much the same but with some improvements. it does have a kind of fast & slow tuning albeit stepping. in fine tune mode u can still hear the radio .. it doesn't cut out .. but in fast mode it does .. which is the drawback. the button layout is ok .. but the curved tuning is a bit weired. there is really nothing to compete with the Sony. id but another in an instant. IMO id recommend it. - Dont underestimate it !

Brilliant!

Having read the other reviews on here I thought id write a few comments, first I use my uno as a bedroom radio to wake me up in the morning and I find the display at night far from too bright, in fact it's almost too dull,it takes your eyes a few seconds to focus and read the display at night, my previous bedroom radio was a Pure Evoke-3 which has a adjustable dimmer for it's display but even on it's lowest setting it ligts up the whole room,Ive now moved this radio into the kitchen.
Second, the unit does have a sleep function which is adjustable in 5 minute units from 5 to 60 minutes as I use this to fall asleep to.
The only downside I can find with the uno is you can't pick the station you wake up to using it as a alarm clock, the unit will come on playing the last station you were listening to when you last switched it off, on the Evoke-3 you could set the wake up station independently,aswell as the wake up volume,maybe im just expecting too much from this little radio but I do like to fall asleep listening to radio 7 and wake up listening to XFM! Apart this these small things the unit is great, lovely design, very reliable (unlike the pure Evoke-1 Marshall edition I had before which only lasted just over a year!) It also makes a great kitchen radio as the buttons are all on the top,which means you can press them without the unit sliding all over the worktop which can happen if the buttons are on the front.

Great sound and easy to use

I have an analogue Roberts in the bathroom, a DAB Evoke Pure1 in my kitchen and have been after an RD50 for the bedroom for sometime. Despite being expensive I have not been disappointed with this radio.

It is so easy to use. Skim through the well laid out manual once and you will be able to operate all its features including PausePlus which lets you record 15 minutes of sound, if you have to attend to something else.

The DAB auto tune takes less than 10 seconds to find and store all of your available digital stations. The 6 part telescopic antenna which is about 20 inches long fully extended, gave me great reception. The LCD provides six different types of information including signal strength. There is also a useful button providing quick access to your favourite station.

I found the sound quality and volume to be better than the Evoke. I'd say it's tone was rich, deep but clear, perfect for speech on Radio 4 and classical music on Radio 3 or Classic FM. Inside there is one good quality 3 watt speaker and a cone arrangement which provides more bass resonance from the solid construction of the cabinet.

It is expensive compared to other radios but in the end I'm happy to have paid extra for great sound, the convenience and range of digital and the ease of use of a quality product which should last years.

DAB = Designer, Amazing, Brilliant.

I bought this product in John Lewis this christmas, and have found it to be a beautiful piece of equipment, oozing style and technology. I am really into all things retro, and this certainly is for those who love a genuinely well made, quality, and robust radio that demonstrates up to the minute class, as well as historical curviness.

I own the cream version, which I find suits my country kitchen very well. However, my 16 year old brother (I am 22) now loves its look so much that he is buying the aluminium version for his bedroom, which sort of demonstrates how versitile this piece of kit is, attracting many different target audiences.

The only thing I would say was that I was suprised on how large it was compared to, for example, the roberts retro radio, from cath kidston. Although the roberts radio has charm, I decided I would quickly get sick of its look, when compared to this sturdy and timeless classy radio.

The sound quality is fantastic, and I can link my iPod up to it which is great, and the sound for that whilst connected is still tip top.

Top class, for those who care about quality english manufacturing, style and technology, and not just about the price, which I must admit isnt the best. John lewis sells cheapest at 150 quid.

A massive disappointment

I love DAB and already have three radios from the Pure range. I did a lot of checking out reviews before buying this radio. I liked the look of this one and, given how good the reviews were, thought this would make a great addition to my collection. Unfortunately, this has not proved to be the case. I've tried using the radio in three different places (Oxford, Cardiff and the valleys). In Oxford and Cardiff there is a constant clicking noise which is both irritating and distracting. In the valleys, where my Pure radio works perfectly, I had no digital reception at all and was not even able to get Radio 4 FM. Maybe I've got a duff radio

Superb and stylish

Tried an analogue radio at first and couldn't get any reception from my house, so thought DAB would be worse but decided to give it a go anyway. Very impressed with this radio. It's extremely easy to use, fantastic design and I can actually get a decent reception. The sound is very good too. I would imagine that if reception were poor, it would be no use to anyone, but reception has proved better than a normal analogue radio, so a thumbs up to this one.
