It's OK

It's not a bad product in general and I'm reasonably happy with it. It looks great and the weather and clock functions are accurate enough for me. I placed my weather sensor outdoors facing North to get a better reading in general and with this was able to"rotate" (in unit application) the readings to get a constant more accurate output on indoor and outdoor temperature and humidity. The negatives for me are (hence the 3 star) the need to unplug the unit from the mains to turn off the weather indicator (little light top left corner that indicates by colour code the weather type ie sunny,rainy, snow etc). If the unit is plugged in this is constantly on and is so bright it lights up a dark room. In this instance you need battery power which then turns this light off, unless there is an update to the system which is very annoying to light sleepers. The other annoyance is the amount of buttons and controls needed to make any changes to the unit. Persnonally I wouldn't buy the unit again unless Philips makes some changes to their next model but for the time being it will do.

Brilliant!

Having read the other reviews on here I thought id write a few comments, first I use my uno as a bedroom radio to wake me up in the morning and I find the display at night far from too bright, in fact it's almost too dull,it takes your eyes a few seconds to focus and read the display at night, my previous bedroom radio was a Pure Evoke-3 which has a adjustable dimmer for it's display but even on it's lowest setting it ligts up the whole room,Ive now moved this radio into the kitchen.
Second, the unit does have a sleep function which is adjustable in 5 minute units from 5 to 60 minutes as I use this to fall asleep to.
The only downside I can find with the uno is you can't pick the station you wake up to using it as a alarm clock, the unit will come on playing the last station you were listening to when you last switched it off, on the Evoke-3 you could set the wake up station independently,aswell as the wake up volume,maybe im just expecting too much from this little radio but I do like to fall asleep listening to radio 7 and wake up listening to XFM! Apart this these small things the unit is great, lovely design, very reliable (unlike the pure Evoke-1 Marshall edition I had before which only lasted just over a year!) It also makes a great kitchen radio as the buttons are all on the top,which means you can press them without the unit sliding all over the worktop which can happen if the buttons are on the front.

A good wet room/portable radio for digital listening

Wanted a silver, but John Lewis didn't stock this colour at the time of writing this (NB JL have free delivery). Ended up ordering one from Revo directly which also charge £6 same as amazon.
Initially, problems with volume control in that the lowest setting was quite loud. Phoned Revo who said it was a faulty batch of radios, sent it back (at their cost) and recieved replacement by return of post which is much better, although they sent it with a European plug/adaptor. Again quick phone to Revo and one was in the post. Moral: Revo customer service is second-to-none and avoids a go-between (Amazon). Regarding the radio itself, very pleased with functionality and quality of sound. Minor drawback is that it does not have a socket for external aerial and the DAB reception in our area is not so great leading to fish tank sound. It means we can't save radio to card which we would've liked, however listening on FM is fine. Memory card function seems to work fine with 2GB although Revo guarantee usage up to 1MB only. In my opinion, this radio is a good choice for the humid situation of a bathroom, and with memory card Pico+ version rather than the standard Pico, gives the option of listening to MP3s as well.

Poor Reception

Nice Radio, Nice Sound, but I live in a partial reception area and it is completely deaf (signal wise) apart from a few sweet spots in the house where the signal strength is almost maximum. My brother lives close by and has a Pure Evoke 2. The signal strength is always above 85%, regardless of where he is in the house. If you're planning on buying an Intempo DAB radio, I would suggest checking your coverage first!

Once connected, its great!

Living outside the UK I wanted an internet radio to listen to UK radio without having to use my laptop. I bought the AE radio on a visit to the UK and tried connecting it to a BT Homehub but although I entered the routers security key the radio wouldnt connect, apparently you have to disable the security on the router - which I didn't want to do. A few days later I took it to South America and connected it to my Linksys router and no problems. Lots of stations, great sound quality. Comes with a nifty plug that you can adapt to most countries without needing a separate adapter. A great radio especialy if you are out of the UK and want your favourite UK stations.

Expensive but poor component quality

It does look good and with the TEAC name that's why I bought it. The most annoying thing and why I sent the first one back was a loud (when you trying to sleep with it next to you) feedback hum when on standby. When the unit is switched on this increases and at low listening levels is very noticeable. The second one arrived and was identical. Obviously a design fault. Switching between channels is slow and clunky why not a dial instead of clicking up and down. Losing the channel very annoying especially as I have to turn it off to get to sleep each night. On the plus it does sound good at loader volumes.

The best table radio in the UK 2008? Great with the iPod too.

I listened to pretty much every table radio before I bought the R1, and there's nothing better out there (IMHO). I also listened to pretty much every iPod speaker system, and while there may be better (the Fatman for instance) there's nothing to beat the R1 at this price or close to this size.

The control system is simple, smooth and intuitive. Styling is discrete, and with the unit's diminutive size, blends effortlessly into any environment. Tuning to every DAB station is accomplished with one touch of a single button. The sound is refined and full, though with perhaps a touch of hardness in the upper vocal range when listened to directly on axis. Despite the small box size, bass control is good and extension reasonable. Volume is sufficient to fill a decent sized room, but look elsewhere if you need something suitable for a dance party. Unlike some other radios, the unit is solidly built, and will not rattle or buzz even with rock music at full volume.

Connecting the iPod via the auxiliary socket on the front panel likewise gives excellent results.

Highly recommended.
