Superb - no other word for it.

Must say, I can't agree with Roweena the Red who commented that"...Even though the series is definitely lighter this time..." because to my mind, Season 2 is darker, MUCH more dramatic and vastly more exciting that season 1.

Having now seen the whole of season 2 (bought it as region 1 because I was so keen to see the full set), I find this to be pretty well the best of all the CSI's so far - and that includes Las Vegas 1-6 and Miami 1-2. In this season, two of the CSI team find themselves under investigation for possible involvement in different crimes; one is fired, one is killed and several characters from previous storylines and/or Season 1 make a re-appearance. There is also a cross-over with CSI-Miami and the involvement of Horatio Cain. The characters of Mac and Stella and developed in much more depth and a new CSI fits in really well. As you'd expect, there are murders and suspicious deaths of all sorts. So take my advice - don't just stop at Season 1 part 1, stretch to Part 2 as well. You'll need to anyway if you want to find out how one particular storyline is brought to an end - not to mention the mystery of how one CSI may or may not have been involved in a killing carried out by the Tanglewood Boys.

Strong, solid entertainment

Unlike other acclaimed US drama imports (like The West Wing, Six Feet Under, The Shield or The Sopranos), C.S.I. is not primarily character-driven. It's not about the ensemble of actors - although enough backstory is provided for us; rather it is about the crime of the week. The story is all. Therefore C.S.I. box sets are a little 'hit and miss' since they're only as good as the stories in question.

However, the show is always entertaining, even when it's not at its best. And indeed when it gets everything right, such as a couple of the episodes included here ("The Finger" and"Chasing The Bus" are highlights), it is right up there with those aforementioned dramas. And included in this particular box set is perhaps the best C.S.I. episode to date - the psychologically terrifying"Stalker". Not one to watch home alone!

Who are you

CSI was one of those show's I'd heard of but never watched. Then that magazine came out and bought the first issue and watched the pilot episode and the following one. After that I was hooked. 2 weeks was too long to wait for the next episode so in a strange fit of confusion (desperation?) I bought the first part of Season 3 and proceeded to sit down and watch all the episodes over the course of a month.
Each episode is gripping developing the characters and story with startling pace. The characters are likeable, and Grissom is one of those characters who come along in a series once every decade: Mulder, Captain Picard, Gil Grissom.
This first part of the series is contains the first part of seaon three, but is lacking in the extras department. A couple of commentaries and some extra behind the scenes footage but that's it. I wish these TV series disks had more special features. As it stands though the series is fab and is worth buying for the great storytelling, excellent acting, forensic science and of course the likeable characters.

this dvd box set is great i just got it from the usa as its cheaper u get both parts for only £27.
other than that ) it realy is a great program to watch i liked it very much and i have most of them i would put this 9/10 as it has good story lines good actors and above all just a well rounded screen play and keeps you intrested in it so you want to watch the next 1 and the next 1.

Csi Miami

CSI was one of those shows that really wowed people who saw it. It was a procedural drama at heart and that was new and attracted a huge following. What CSI Miami did was to integrate this new type of drama with some of the older styles such as Law and Order. David Carouso was an inspired choice for the lead, Horatio Caine. Kind, compassionate but ruthless, he is essentially the same character as Det. Kelly in NYPD Blue, however this is no bad thing as he is so damn good at it. It starts a little slowly as all series do but when it gets going it is truly absorbing. Overall i would recommend this to all lovers of the crime genre and recommend this and NYPD blue to anyone who enjoys David Carouso. There is one drawback with CSI Miami, Horatio's sunglasses. After a couple of episodes you WILL want them and unfortunately they are no longer made...ah well, you can't have everything.

Very entertaining series

I only used to watch 24 on TV, but then I heard about CSI and decided to give that a go. After watching loads of episodes of the original CSI and the two spin-offs (Miami and NY), I can definitely say that CSI Miami is my favourite, and I enjoy it as much as the antics of Jack Bauer :) The cast are excellent, and the crimes so gruesome that sometimes you cover your eyes with your hands (but of course you always peep through your fingers). I love the Arthur Conan Doyle technique of showing the crime first and then working back from the clues to discover who did it and why, with various flashbacks provided from different characters' points of view, so you won't know who did it until the end. I also find the crime labs really fascinating, I don't know if things are done this way in real life, but the series has showed me so many things I never knew about police investigations! It's really addictive stuff, and the good thing is that you don't need to watch previous episodes or previous seasons to understand what is going on; I started in the middle of season 3 thinking that I'll probably be a bit confused, but each episode has its own storyline and crime to solve, and the characters'private lives aren't the focus of the series, so its not like 24 that you have to watch all the episodes to be up to date with what is happening. If you like crime and detective shows, you should like this one.

Refreshing series from USA

In reply to another review, i admit that the acting is not the best, but hey they aren't trying to win oscars here, just simply trying to put bums on seats. They achieve this with bright, colourful, refreshing, and fast moving drama.Compare this to a series like waking the dead or new tricks, and you will appreciate the difference.
They also tackle some rather touchy subjects that other shows wouldnt dare reach to.
Overall a quick paced show: without any ad breaks you are done and dusted in about 45 mins, in which you actually get to learn a bit about modern day policing and the role of forensics, although they do simplify it for you so you dont have to think too much.

Was excited to watch CSI when I got the dvd but once I pressed play I was hooked, The cast are amazing especially Horatio he is awesome. The program is so detailed and the suspense I get when I watch it is great. Im half way through the dvd I have just watched the episode about the sniper and the way they managed to find the sniper was amazing. This is a must buy DVD.

Smart CSI

This is infact the most brilliant & the most smartest CSI episode I have ever seen

Qentin Tarantino has put a brilliant essent of what the fans want in a CSI episode, it is extreamly well written, extreamly well played, extreamly well put together, with a bit of Quentin Tarantino's specials in it

This is a race against time for life or death of the CSI member

I recommend anyone who enjoy & who loves CSI

This is the best series yet with great camara angles and brilliant cases. If you like drama this is the dvd for you.

Excellent Crime Drama

CSI is simply the best US police procedural drama (which, given how many there are, is saying quite a lot).

The stories are strong and there is a cast of interesting characters. For me, the central character, Gil Grissom (brilliantly played by William Peterson) is the reason it works so well. Grissom is wonderful character - an introverted and rather unemotional man, a serious scientist who happens to be a criminologist. As such he is free for most of the traditional TV cop baggage, giving the whole series a fresh and interesting perspective. In this series, the CSI team gets on with investigating crime scenes and solving mysteries attempting, but not always succeeding, to do this without bias or preconceptions. They leave the police work to others. The rest of the cast is also very, very good bringing complex and interesting characters to life.

Danny Boyle directs most of the episodes with great style, even his habit of focussing in at a microscopic level (e.g. looking at blood vessels etc) works well. Setting the series in Las Vegas works well - the city, the desert, the mountains - they all provide great backdrops and look fantastic.

This is the season where CSI really got going, it is even better than the very good season 1. The characters are more fully realised (we start to get glimpses of their life outside work) and there is a very interesting group dynamic. Combined with the excellent story lines and some interesting forensic science this makes for an excellent season of an excellent series.

Felony Flight/Manhattan Manhunt

This is the second CSI crossover between the New York and Miami series and begins when a plane carrying convicts from a prison in New York crash-lands in Florida, killing the pilot and the officers and leaving a psychopathic killer named Henry Darius on the run. Detective Mac Taylor from the New York crime lab comes over to Florida to help Horatio Caine and the rest of the Miami Dade crime lab find this dangerous killer before he can harm anyone else. Unfortunately, after many unneccessary slayings, Darius then takes hostage a weathy heiress and takes her back to New York, when Mac and Horatio are hot on their heels and try to catch up with him in the Big Apple.

The action is non-stop from the get-go and also has some of the best special effects that I've seen in any of the CSI series so far. All of the cast are there, with Mac working with Horatio, Alexx, Ryan, Calleigh, Eric and Frank in the Miami part and Horatio working with Mac, Stella, Danny, Lindsey, Sheldon and Don in the NY part. The story is extremely tense and is also one of the best from the two series, with a real movie feel to it when watching it all at once.

The first half of the story is a CSI: Miami episode, the second a CSI: NY episode and is presented very well in this special edition DVD, as in the boxsets you would need to watch one half from one series and then switch to the other to watch the conclusion. This is a great DVD that is more for the collectors, as if you already have the boxsets of Miami and NY, there isn't anything extra here that isn't on those versions.
