Deep Space 9, series 6
Loved the depth and attention to detail of this series, with so many sub-plots all linked to the main plot of the war with the Dominion. The episodes which focused on the Ferenghi were brilliant, especially 'The Magnificent Ferenghi', its comic take on the magnificent seven. Quark et al add essential humour to the series.83
Review for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - Season 1 [1995]:
Battle, emotion, war, terror, loyalty and honor. I watched the show for about 4 episodes and then quitted because it got soo boring. After a few years i picked it up somewhere at the fourth and I was HOOKED FOR LIFE! I downloaded the entire show and now, Im getting the boxes. If you never watched Star trek before, get DS9 and continue afterwarts with Enterprise. Except for a few Borg episodes from TNG and Voyager these are the best Star Trek has to offer.

At the edge of the Final Frontier
This is something all DS9 mostly agree. Review for Star Trek: The Next Generation - The Complete TV Movies [1990]:
This set will therefore give a fine summary of The Next Generation's seven years, from the pilot to the series finale, for those who do not wish the expense of all seven season boxsets. They are, however, all the big action spectacles without the low-key cerebral stand-alones.
Notable highlights include the acclaimed"Best of Both Worlds" with the ultimate Borg invasion leading to the greatest of the show's cliffhangers - Captain Picard's assimilation and attack on the Enterprise. Also worthy of mention is the appearance of Ambassador Spock on Romulus as one of several original series corss-overs in"Unification", Picard's interrogation by Cardassians in a fine turn for actor Patrick Stewart in"Chain of Command", and of course the outstanding journey through the past, present and future in the climactic finale"All Good Things...".
However, there are a few that do not quite live up to these high standards with"Time's Arrow" as an unsatisfying if amusing adventure to 19th Century Earth, and"Birthright" as a rather slow paced, uneven mix of Worf and Data character stories that could have been condensed to a single episode. Still, together they are all great adventures from a truly great series.
In terms of special features, the sixth disc offers another TV Movie,"Emissary", which was the pilot for the superb spin-off series"Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" and featured a special appearance by Patrick Stewart. There is also a fun documentary hosted by actor/director Jonathan Frakes (Riker) entitled"Journey's End" which is now around eight years old and has been broadcast on terrestrial television. It offers a look back across the series, brief interviews with cast and crew, behind the scenes shots of"All Good Things" and a bit of a teasing lead up to the 1995 theatrical movie"Star Trek Generations". Interesting content but it clearly shows its age. In addition, there are trailers for the DS9 release on DVD, TV spots for each episode, and trailers for Star Trek feature films numbers I-VII. All in all, nothing to entice owners of these two-parters on other formats, but ample sustenance for the new-comer.

Review for Star Trek: The Next Generation - The Complete TV Movies [1990]:
Highlights from the TNG series
In case there was any doubt, this 6-disc DVD box set contains all ten TV Movies produced as part of the"Star Trek: The Next Generation" series. They are not to be confused with the theatrical films"Generations" through"Nemesis". In each case, these are two episodes from the TV series (often a season cliffhanger and its resolution) presented in their"feature length" format, which means they are edited together as one 88 minute show with no"To Be Continued..." legend and no end credits separating parts I and II. These were also produced in this format on individual VHS cassettes long ago. This set will therefore give a fine summary of The Next Generation's seven years, from the pilot to the series finale, for those who do not wish the expense of all seven season boxsets. They are, however, all the big action spectacles without the low-key cerebral stand-alones.

Beam on down!!!
Anyone who thinks that Star Trek is boring will be changing their views after seeing this collection. 29 episodes in all, and only one of them is a dud ('The Alternative Factor', if you can watch it without getting confused you've more brains than me!) Aside from that one, every episode is worth watching. My particular favourites are 'Where No Man Has Gone Before', 'The Corbomite Manouver' and 'Miri', three superb stories, and there are many, many, more. The great thing about the original series is that it is fun and entertaining, not filled with all the 'techno-babble' that made some of the follow up series, especially 'voyager', tedious. Beam on down, it really is great fun!!!87
Review for Star Trek: Voyager - Season 1 [1996]:
Despite the run-of-the-mill, unispiring escapades presented here, there's still a bit of fun to be had. The Starfleet/Maquis crew on Voyager are an interesting bunch, and by the end of the season you will have warmed to Janeway, Chakotay, Torres, Paris, and Kim (even if they all get along too well, all things considered). The Doctor is the standout character, Bob Picardo excellently portrays the pathos in the character, with his desperation to be included and respected as an idividual. The final two regulars, Neelix and Kes, are less impressive. Neelix is overbearing and irritating and is just not funny, whilst Kes's character seems too difficult to pin down at times, and the fact that her and Neelix are engaged in a romantic relationship is completely unbelievable.
In conclusion, this first set of Voyager adventures is not great, but it does entertain. And we were lucky it was allowed to go on, as it would get a hell of a lot better.

Review for Star Trek: Voyager - Season 1 [1996]:
70,000 light years and counting...
Before I kick off into my main review of this dvd box set of voyager's first season, I'd like to start by pointing out that unfortunately, unlike the UK vhs releases, this is the"amended" version of Season 1. Originally, Season 1 was to be 19 episodes, but at the last minute the last 4 episodes were pulled from transmission to save for Season 2 (and allow it to be the traditional 26 episode length), even though the stardates were not altered to Season 2 format, and they were still included in the Season 1 package for overseas distribution. This means that Season 1 ends on a decidedly dull note with the mediocre"Learning Curve". The other 14 episodes included here are of varying quality, with a few showing promise, but none particularly thrilling."Caretaker" is generally regarded as a very strong premiere episode and is definitely better than the Nex Generation's"Encounter at Farpoint". In reality it's ok but not great. More than anything it's a functional episode, setting up the basic premise adequately enough, but it's full of plot holes and contrivances, and the Kazon are immediately annoying, an obvious rehash of the Klingons, but with less depth. The next two episodes"Parrallax" and"Time and Again" are both neat little sci-fi stories and are both more exciting than the feature length premiere, but the remaining batch are all very"hmmmm", with the exception of the penultimate Jetrel", probably the strongest episode in this set.Despite the run-of-the-mill, unispiring escapades presented here, there's still a bit of fun to be had. The Starfleet/Maquis crew on Voyager are an interesting bunch, and by the end of the season you will have warmed to Janeway, Chakotay, Torres, Paris, and Kim (even if they all get along too well, all things considered). Review for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - Season 2 [1995]:
The contents is, of course very good. The 2nd season is already better than the 1st, although some weak episodes do pop up from time to time (Melora, Playing God). The best episodes, in my opinon are: The homecoming-The siege-The circle, Necessary evil, Whispers, Paradise, The Maquis, The wire, Crossover, Tribunal, The Jem'Hadar.
The extra features are again good, especially “ Michael Westmore's aliens ” .
This set deserves 5 stars, but because of the weak casing I give it 4 stars.

Be careful
Be very careful when opening these box sets! The joints are rather weak and broke when I opened the lid a bit too far, with both seasons 1 and 2. The plastic they used is much weaker compared to the plastic of the TNG-boxes, which is much sturdier. The contents is, of course very good. Review for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - Season 7 [1999] [1995]:
This series was finely balanced to bring humour, depression, war, morality and intelligence - which was the purpose - it was bold and moving in its portrayal of issues that again only star trek can pull off in a balanced manner.
I hated this series at first but grew to love it - do not miss out on this and stick with all the series - they all belong together!

Bold & Brave..
DS9 was an under-rated and quality Sci Fi series that took a deep and hard look at the reality of the current state of our world and bought this into an optimistic but unrealistic perception we have of the future. This series was finely balanced to bring humour, depression, war, morality and intelligence - which was the purpose - it was bold and moving in its portrayal of issues that again only star trek can pull off in a balanced manner.

The ugly duckling.
I remeber how at the time i seemed to be the only person who loved this show i really got hooked during the second season, deep space nine just got better and better and remains my favourite sci-fi show ever.Reading the reviews on amazon it is a very nice suprise to see how loved the show is, it deserves to be loved, every thing has already been said in these reviews and to be honest i could speak about ds9 for hours, it is a shame that they never filmed a follow up tv movie like they said they might but such is life in sci-fi land.It may be a bit ugly during its first two seasons but it becomes a very beautiful swan no other star trek show has matched yet.

Review for Star Trek Vs Star Wars - The Rivalry Continues [2001]:
But quickly was I disappointed (as Yoda says...).
Timeline:
The DVD was made during the premier of star wars: the phantom manace.
The contant:
The bottom line of the DVD is that both late Gene roddenbarry and George Locus have created something awesome, without aiming to do so from the start.
There are several interviews with stars from both shows. these interviews are not giving any additional information, but rather, focus on the character's role in the movie.
There are no connections between the different interviews, nor do they try to connect or even comment on the other show.
There is no real comment to the star trek next generation and DS9 series.
There's no attempt to see the common between the shows, and not even the 2 very familier phrases from the movies:"may the force be with you","live long and prosper".
Picture and sound qualities:
I have to emphasise that both the picture and the sound of this DVD are Horrible! it lools as though a person took some VHS cassettes, and just burned them on a DVD.
Conclusion:
If you have money, and you think that this money is best spend on DVD titles, Try some other title, and skip this one.
Wishful thinking:
I hope that someone will take the challange, and will create a true and deep comparison between the star trek world and the Babylon 5 world....but again...only a wishful thinking...

Review for Star Trek: Generations [1994] (REGION 1) (NTSC):
As for the story:
The most interesting thing about Generations is the feeling that you've seen it all before. The bridge on the Enterprise D was the same that they had in the TV show for 7 years (apart from different lighting), the uniforms, most of the props and many of the special effects shots are the same as the tv show, which is good from a continuity point of view.. yet left me feeling a bit cheated.
The only strange thing is the crew can't seem to decide which type of uniform they should be wearing as they alternate between the TNG style uniform (coloured chest and black shoulders, small silver rank insignia) or the DS9/Voyager TV series (black chest and coloured shoulders, large gold rank insignia) style, while at the same time they used the DS9/Voyager comm badge. It would of been a lot cleaner leaving the crew with the TNG style stuff and then moving on, as they did, with the complete makeover for ST8:First Contact. The over all effect feels a bit... fumbled and rough.
The lighting seems a bit silly, considering that the ship has always been a bright a clean place, it suddenly takes on a dark and moodly atmosphere which doesn't fit the established interior of the ship. Their also seems to be an over useage of yellow lighting. The bridge, the ready room, 10-forward and even the palm-beacons are yellow. Not to mention the yellow alert, yellow force fields, shots of yellow stars, phaser fire, and all the desert scenes. Too much yellow for my tastes!
The movie has too many sub plots, too. Kirk's story, Picards newphew and Data's emotionchip. The latter of which makes it feel as though the character we know from the series isn't even in it, but some laughing and joking man that looks like him is...
The over all effect is interesting. Familiar and unfamiliar. To be honest, I find myself wishing that it didn't jump 78 years into the future and the action stayed with the Enterprise B at the begining. It has much better crafting and a shiny-and-new feeling that the rest of the movie lacks.

Review for Star Trek: First Contact [1996] (REGION 1) (NTSC):
The plot involves the crew of the next gerenation aboard their new ship; the Enterprise E. The original (Enterprise D) had in fact been destroyed in the earlier film. Captain Picard (who many deem the overall best of the Starfleet captains) is having dreams and thoughts about the Borg and their plan to attack Earth and take on Starfleet. Because of Jean-Luc's past experiences with the Borg, Starfleet intelligence decides to not put Picard into the same situation again and in stead of facing the Borg with the other Strafllet ships at the ready, he is ordered to patrol the neutral zone; in case the Romulans decide to take advantage of a bad situation. The crew of the newest Enterprise are sorely dishevelled at this, but decided they cannot disobey Strafleet command. However, they receive audio accounts of the current attack and decide to go maximum warp to the heart of the battle, ultimately in a direct violation of Starfleet's orders. When they get there, they find 'the defiant' struggling and Picard decides to take command of the fleet. His mind previously linked to the collective, he knows exactly where to strike the hardest. The borg cube is destroyed and a sphere disattaches and creates a temporal vortex. The Enterprise gets caught up in a temporal wake created from this vortex and soon discover the Borg have gone back in time and assimilated Earth in the past. They immediately decided to follow the Borg in to the past to stop their attempts and preserve their timeline. (it is noted they were saved from the changes to the timeline because of being caught in said 'temporal wake'.)
Upon entering 21st century Earth they discover the Borg sphere is attacking a missile complex somewhere on the surface and destroy the ship. Little do they know the Borg are aware of their immediate demise, and transport over to the Enterprise somehow not being detected by their scanners. Their plan is to assimilate the Enterprise from the inside out and call upon the 21st century Borg to assimilate Earth before First Contact happens on April 5th 2063.
On the surface, Diana Troi finds Zephram Cochran and the rest of the crew on the surface help him to re-build his warp engine so the Vulcans will take heed that Earth is developing inter-stellar warp capabilities(although he is more than reluctant to say the least).
Without going into much more detail as to spoil the rest of the story; Data gets kidanpped by the Borg Queen (wonderfully played by Alice Krige), Picard attemots to rescue him and I'm sure the day is well and truly saved by the end of the film.
The special effects are great! You get sucked into the graphics so fervently that you keep wanting to learn how to pilot any Starfleet ship. What I wouldn't do to be let wild in one of those rad ships!! The science fiction in unbelievable, yet believable. It's not too heavy so as to yet the general viewer be disuaded by technical science fiction, however not too easy-paced so the committed Trekkie does not get bored and/or annoyed. Characterisation is really pronounced and you can see how the script-writers plan to add more depth to the people the Trekkie community grew up with.
Some very entertaining moments, laughable omissions and excellent story conceptions make 'Star Trek First Contact' a film that you will definitely want to reach for again and again. It's Trekkie history in the making and you will not be disappointed in the discovery that unveils the perception of even the youngest viewer.

Star Trek; First Contact VHS Video Review
Growing up, me and my family used to fervently watch the 'next generation' crew every single night. Presently they can name every single episode. However, me being very small at the time, I have just recently rekindled the 'trekkie' pashion. I decided to but 'First Contact' for the history that coincides within the Star Trek universe. It was very thrilling to see some of my favourite actors and characters hitting the big screen once again (the first time together was in fact 'Star Trek Generations').The plot involves the crew of the next gerenation aboard their new ship; the Enterprise E. Some very entertaining moments, laughable omissions and excellent story conceptions make 'Star Trek First Contact' a film that you will definitely want to reach for again and again. It's Trekkie history in the making and you will not be disappointed in the discovery that unveils the perception of even the youngest viewer.
