Review for The Simpsons - Around The World In 80 D'Oh's:
All of the episodes included are excellent, and the DVD contains an adeqaute, if not extensive set of extras.
By far the best episode is the British visit of the Simpsons, altought they only visit England, negating Wales, Scotland and Ireland. Perhaps next time? Even so, this episode proves to be very entertaining in much the same way as the simpsons always is.
Sure, the Americans will never touch the brilliance of British comedy, and The Simpsons only serves to prove that, but it is still a vastly original and prominently enjoyable piece of animated comedy. If you like the Simpsons, but don't want an entire season, this set is for you.

Review for Sleepaway Camp Trilogy [1983]:
Arriving at a summer camp, Angela Baker (Felissa Rose) and her cousin Ricky (Jonathan Tiersten) immediately rub the head counselor Meg (Katharine Kamhi) by how different and quiet she is. Ronnie (Paul DeAngelo) and Susie (Susan Glaze) take time to break her out of her shell, but Ricky is protective of her and doesn't want her to be exposed to too much. As people start dying at camp, Mel, (Mike Kellin) the head of the camp, keeps insisting that it's just fluke accidents. As Angela finally comes out of her shell around Paul, (Christopher Collet) the murders around camp start increasing. As everyone starts to suspect the new-comers Angela and Ricky as the killer, the camp tries to stop the killer from striking again.
The Good News: Well, first off, this has one of, if the not the, best ending to a horror film ever. It comes so far from left field and is so unexpected that no one would ever believe it. It's also really original to end it that way, as all the clues point elsewhere, then we get dropped with the bombshell of all bombshells with the ending that comes out of nowhere, and it does seem completely shocking on first viewing. By pulling the rug out of our feet with a complete turn-around is a wonderful in it's execution. I can't say enough about the great ending, go see it for yourself. Also nice was the way that all the deaths aren't exactly the typical deaths for this type of movie. Granted, there is an impalement with an knife and a decapitation, but the rest of the film features some great kills, including being stung to death by bees,, scalded with boiling water, and a pretty nasty one involving a curling iron and a special part of the female anatomy. That's all I'm going to say on that one. Pretty nifty kills, although some have been done before. It's also pretty good at setting up the storyline to make the characters so believable. Angela is a quiet, shy teenage girl, and Ricky her protective cousin. While not exactly new, the combination of both is a nice addition to the rest of the characters at camp. Pretty much stereotypical characters, but all mixed together with some new ones.
The Bad News: For the time this came out, it should've been way more graphic. This one is very dry and features next to no blood. Only two deaths happen on-screen as well, which is a shame as several would've been nice to see what happened to them. However, more gore was needed to make the film a little more entertaining, but it still is fine right now. Just more. Also, since the sequels went for a more campy approach, this one goes more of a serious route. It's very discerning to see Angela played her as a shy, quiet type and as a wise-cracking woman in the sequels.
The Final Verdict: With one of cinema's greatest endings that is really shocking and a big body count for the time, this is a very underrated film. Fans of the time frame will eat this one up, but fans of the sequels may find it odd that there is none of the goofy sense of humor apparent in this film.

Wow!! This is a Powerful Performance by Will Smith
I watched this thinking it might be a light-hearted Independence Day type performance by Will Smith. I watched this and have GREAT admiration and respect for Will Smith. Its one of the most powerful performances I have ever seen. He makes you feel what it likes to be there and identify with him. This is one of the most disturbing and powerful films I have seen in years. I spoke to some friends and family about the effect this film had on me. They have reminded me it's just a Film, and it could never happen. If it should ever become reality, I don't want to be the last person left. The agony that this person portrays/suffers in the film is quite overwhelming.48

Review for The Simpsons - Season 10 (Ltd Edition 'Bart' head) [1998]:
very good, fun season
OK, every Simpson fan acknowledges that season 10 marks the beginning of the slip in Simpsons quality, a trend that the show has never recovered from. Let's just ignore the past greatness of the show for a second and just concentrate on season 10 by itself. Overall season 10 is a compilation of fun and very entertaining stories with great humor. This season is well worth a purchase, 23 episodes, all good and are getting every year I view them.49
Review for The Descent (2 Disc Special Edition) [2005]:
There are comparisons to be drawn to Marshall's 'Soldiers of course - again the story is stark and wonderfully economic. Again there is group of six people, predominantly one sex accompanied with a lurking, ominous threat and again there are more nods to popular film culture than you probably realise. The Descent however has a sense of humour that is suitably pitch black.
Long before the cave appears we play witness to a traumatic event that underlies the plot and serves to both unite and tear apart relationships in equal measure. Mostly affected are fragile Sarah and physically strong Juno, an adrenaline junkie who leads the group further and further beneath the ground. No time is wasted in recreating the primal feel of crawling through tunnels with hard hats scraping the dust from the rocks, choking and inducing paranoia all the way as it lingers in the stale, torchlit air. It's here Marshall gets a little inventive. Playing with various different lighting techniques our heroines become colour coded through scenes via glow-sticks, flashlights and video camera. Sounds echo when visuals are briefly lost and deliciously bone crunching they are too. Events escalate quickly and the whole ride becomes what can only be described as a non-stop relentless assault on the senses that will demand repeated viewing.
The only thing that will ruin this movie for you is word of mouth, which ironically is exactly what this film will need to become commercially viable. But the less you know, the more you will enjoy it. Have fun spotting references to Carrie and Apocalypse Now by all means, but don't be fooled into thinking this is a mere standard entry into the much saturated genre-movie staple. The Descent will rank as one of the most unashamedly terrifying British films ever made. It was made by people that love good cinema, and it shows. The Descent was made before The Cave, and now has an alternate ending for new audiences.

Review for The Descent (2 Disc Special Edition) [2005]:
A HORROR FILM NOT TO BE MISSED
If nightmare inducing horror is not your bag then the less you know about The Descent the better. Geordie writer-director Neil Marshall has delivered an accomplished, well acted, out and out horror movie that comes as much of a pleasant surprise as his first major feature Dog Soldiers did back in 2002. Shot in a mere 7 weeks The Descent sees a sextet of undeniably attractive action women leaping headfirst into an Appalachian potholing adventure that goes wrong so quickly you are left wondering if any one of them will survive, let alone ever see daylight again. There are comparisons to be drawn to Marshall's 'Soldiers of course - again the story is stark and wonderfully economic. Review for Touching The Void [2003]:
The achingly beautiful landscapes and the 5.1 surround sound combine effectively to draw the viewer in and, I swear, you will feel that wind-chill!
Impeccably acted and spliced with frequent interviews with the real climbers, it weaves quite a surreal spell on the viewer, especially when one climber, having suffered a serious injury, undergoes exhaustion-induced hallucinations. I've got that damn Boney M song stuck in MY head now!
Interesting extras - the making of and what happened next, complement this astonishing DVD, that will surely appeal to devotees of many different genres.
An essential purchase.

Very Funny!!!!
This DVD is the best one (with the exception of the season boxsets) but each episode is great homer the heretic where homer stops going to church, is a classic episode. Treehouse Of horror IV is very funny aswell where homer sells his soul for a donut to the devil (ned flanders), Bart sells his soul, where .....suprise, suprise bart sells his soul to milhouse for $5 which features the single most funniest music moment in the whole simpsons where bart makes iron butterflys ina gadda da vida a church hymn. And finally in marge we trust where marge volenteers at the church and ned flanders is almost kill by a gang of savage baboons. 5 stars is very justified. I would strongly recomend you to buy it.52

No perfect Whimsey
I first watched this series as a teenage undergraduate at Cambridge, and seem to recall that I thought it wonderful - no surprise as I was mad about Lord Peter anyway. Twenty years later, I re-read Gaudy Night and decided to watch the TV adaptation again. I was surprised how disappointed I was with Edward Petherbridge's portrayal. Here is a cold arrogant smug Lord Peter with no hint of the boyish humour that Sayers gives him in her books. In my dewy-eyed youth, I somehow overlooked this, as well as Harriet Walters' fresh and attractive portrayal of Harriet Vane (in the books, often a bit gloomy and self-obsessed). Ah well, how we change with age. But something that still stands out is the excellent production, with beautiful settings, costumes and props. For that and to make up for overlooking Ms Walters before, I give this two stars.57
Review for Gershwin - Porgy and Bess (Rattle) [1993] (NTSC):
Willard White is just incredible, and of course Gershwin's music throughout is just sublime. Seeing 'Summertime' (you know the one) in the context of the show sheds a completely different light on it.
The only annoyance was the poor miming (mouths and voices out of synch), and for me it was a big annoyance. But I still found myself moved from time to time.

Review for Nuns On The Run [1990]:
There is an informative Commentary by Writer/Director Jonathan Lynn, he come across as though he enjoyed making this film despite production problems.
Idle and Coltrane are on top form in this latter day ealing comedy. A good laugh from a great cast, the nuns shine and the"Lets seen 'em" weapons gag is a classic and the bewildered police/gangster (We don't know) is a wonderful display of cluelessness.
All in all not as good a the classic ealing of the Ladykillers or Kind Hearts and Coronets but nevertheless a good fun and sometimes overlooked British Comedy. I would recommend it to you.

One of the best Docu-Dramas yet
Although I have not yet bought the DVD I certaintly plan to. This wa sone of the best docu-dramas on Rome I have ever seen. Not was it historically very accurate but you were also able to get a fell for the people involved. You connected with them and that really helps you get into the story. I thought it was interesting to see the different classes in society each dealt with the disaster from the aristocracy in their great villas to the slaves and each had to overcome personal struggles at the same time.Definitly a ten out ten for this one!60
Review for The Simpsons: Treehouse of Horror [1990]:
The writers seem to think that simply stealing a scene from a movie and putting the Simpsons in it is in itself funny. It is not. They also seem to think that the mere presence of a famous celebrity in an episode of the Simpsons is funny without actually having to give them funny lines. It is not.
In fact I can't think of any episodes from series 4 onwards that *don't* either feature a celebrity cameo or a supposed parody of a famous film.
It's a shame because the episodes of the first two series actually had plot and genuine wit. Clearly the series ran out of material long ago.

MISCHIEF NIGHT
when i found out this film was being directed and produced by the same crew that make shameless i was desperate to buy it....as a big shameless fan i thought this would be a classy film version with similar jokes and laughs like the series......of course, different cast, different ideas but generally similar laughs etc....i have to admit,i was a bit disapointed with it,as i didnt find too many laughs or jokes in it,although a good story line and well acted...(esp from the young actors in it) i would recommend buying it if u get it cheap but i wont be in a rush to watch it again.....
