A ABSOLOUTLEY FANTASTIC DVD MUCH MUCH BETTER THAN ALL THE OTHER CHRISTMAS SPECIALS.IT WAS TRULY GREAT AND FEATURES SOME CHRISTMAS SONGS WHICH ARE"HOMEr MADE" .ALSO WITH THE"ON YOUR MARKS, GET SET,DO'H" DVD A BRILLIANT PRICE AND WELL IT'S JUST... TERRIBLY FANTASTIC IT'S TOO GOOD TO BE WAITING ON A SHELF !

A very good Simpsons DVD

This DVD is a mixture of good and bad."Guess who's coming to criticise dinner"and"King Size Homer" are both brilliant episodes, a couple of the best Simpsons there are.

Whereas, on the other hand the other not so good episodes in my opinion are"Lisa the vegetarian"and"Burns ver kaufen der kraftwork", so overall a very mixed DVD.

The episodes and rating I would give them:
"Guess who's coming to criticise dinner" wher Homer becomes his most desirable job for him, a food critic! This episode is very interesting as it realistically shows how power can go to someone's head very quickly, it's also very witty and intriguing, and whether you want to or not you end up watching it to the end! Overall this is aclassic episode and would give it 10/10

Homer to the max

I've had the Simpsons go to hollywood for years on VHS. My nephew loves and it wants to watch it every night before bed, I bought him the dvd because when he goes anywhere he takes along his portable dvd player. His favourite episode is homer to the max which isn't on the dvd but on the vhs. My son has season 1 - 9 and none of them seem to have it on them. Does anyone know where I can get this episode on dvd?

This is a Simpsons tape: Need I say more?

But this isn't just any Simpson's tape - it's a very good Simpson's tape. The only episode that BBC Two has repeated more than 999,999,999 times is Dog Of Death, but that leaves three four fresh episodes from everybody's favourite family! In Mayored To The Mob, Homer saves Mayor Quimby from a riot of Star Wars fans at the Springfield By-Mon-Sci-Fi-Con. This is preeceeded by an exclusive feature about Star Wars references in The Simpsons. This episode is great and really amusing. The best line is when a gangster is about to kill Homer in a resteraunt and Luke Skywalker yells, 'Use the forks!'. Then, there's Dog Of Death. You must've seen that a million times already. There's The Secret War Of Lisa Simpson. When Bart plays a hilarious prank involving a lot of microphones at a field trip to the police station, he's sent to military school. Fed up with her unchallenging school, Lisa becomes the school's first female cadet. Lisa episodes are kinda boring, but it does have it's funny moments. But they've saved the best until last - Marge Be Not Proud. In this episode, Bart becomes a shoplifter! It's on of my favourite episodes of all time. It contains the funniest joke in Simpson's history, when to stop his parents hearing the Try N Save store detectives answerphone message, he replaces the tape with 'Camp Granada'."Hello mudder, hello fadder", "Marge, is Lisa at Camp Granada?". If you like The Simpson's, you'll love this!

Great season

I am a major fan of the Simpsons and I have all the DVD boxsets except season six and season 9 is definatly 1 of my favs the simpsons movie clip is hilarious. This season is definatly recommended for any fan of the Simpsons

Another great Simpson dvd!

This is great for any simpsons fan!It is really brilliant and if you're like me, who has been waiting for the rest of the videos turned into classics dvds then get it! Really funny episodes with blue-haired Marge and devilish Bart! So to any hard core simpsons fans this dvd is the one for you! And if you aren't really a hard core fan it is still enjoyable!

very good

I enjoyed all 3 installments in this adaption of the Peter Wimsey and Harriet Vane love story. Some of the sub-plots have been dropped, but the stories are not spoiled. The 2 main actors are perfect for their roles, except that Edward Petherbridge was rather too old. Wimsey was supposed to be 40 in Strong Poison, and Sayers makes it clear in several of her stories that he looks considerably younger than he is. In Murder Must Advertise (not part of this mini - series), he is 42, but appears to be in his early to mid 30's. Petherbridge was 51 when Strong Poison was made, and looks every day of it. It's a pity they didn't make them 10 or 15 years sooner. Don't let this put you off though. Petherbridge is Lord Peter personified, and this adaption is a very enjoyable one.

A MAORI MASTERPIECE.

I come from Aotearoa (new zealand) and though i am from white descendents i have always felt close to Maori people. As my spiritual path has opened up over the years every time i go back to Aotearoa i feel more and more connection with Maori life, and it is so nice to see the Maori culture growing and the people softening as their faith is slowly coming back. This movie is such a beautiful representation of that spiritual growth.
If you really want to get a taste of Aotearoa and its long term inhabitants and not some Bunjy jumping package tour this movie captures the mystical calling of the land and the Maori connection with it.
You will be a better person for watching this journey.

Other reviews are misleading

Erm, contrary to folk lore, the episode concerning Homer's gun is not and never has been banned from airing on UK television - so most people will have seen it anyway. It is not something secret and new, which gives an unfair impression of its 'must-see' value. I can tell you it's still a good episode, though, as I've seen it on television twice.

But surely these dvds with only four or five episodes of 20 minutes are a bit of a rip off? For real fans only, I'd suggest.

Best season eveerrrr!

This season, i think is the best season. It has brilliant episodes including Bart after dark, Lisa's date with density, The Springfield files and my personal favourite, The Itchy and Scratchy and poochie show. The last episode mentioned is extremely funny. I would advise season eight from season 1 to 10 but all seasons are all very good as well.

A tale of two dubs...

Bubblegum Crash was a horrifying disappointment. It had such a good pedigree, and somehow managed to suffer the"Binks Effect". But if you'll bear with me, you might enjoy the production a little more, because this release has a very peculiar story to it, and a slightly better edition is still out there...

As you might already know, Bubblegum Crisis was a classic anime release from the 80s by Artmic, and one of the big names in early anime history. It ran for only eight episodes, owing to a fatal shortage of cash. The result is that it was never really finished properly, and some story threads were left hanging in the wind. Then this mini-series, Bubblegum Crash, came along. It was supposed to finish off the story with some newly improved animation and new kit for the main characters.

It flopped. Badly.

Firstly the show itself isn't too brilliant. Half the elements of the OAV were dropped altogether, despite the series being set only a year after previous events in the series. The overall feel of the original show was largely sacrificed for a more"artistic" feel. The classic 80s soundtrack of the show was dropped for a more"techno" beat. And the Knight Sabers' hardsuits were"upgraded" (presumably on the basis that bigger guns and chunkier kit always brings in more fans). Actually it ruined them altogether because now the Sabers didn't really have to fight very hard to smash any opposition into the floor. All in all, it took out most of the elements that made the OAV work and replaced them with junk. Only the quality of the animation itself improved at all. And the title sequence is probably the best any anime show has had until very, very recently.

But what really killed it stone dead for many fans was the new dub (this is where it gets complicated). The license for Crash in the US belonged to Animeigo. The license for its UK release belongs to Manga. What I found was, first with Manga's VHS releases, and then with Animeigo's DVD release, that the two license holders seem to have used a different dub.

Yes, that means that there are TWO dubs out there. And I can honestly say that Animeigo's dub is the most faithful to the original series because, if I'm not much mistaken, all the original voice actors and actresses from the OAV are in it again. And for Manga's release some of them aren't. A BGC fan will notice almost immediately. Now throw in some poor editing on Manga's part, and there's simply no other conclusion you can make:

So overall, it's hard to mark this title. On its own merit, it's worth the asking price, which is fairly reasonable. It's not the best anime out there, the dub is substandard and it's not been properly cut for your viewing experience. And it's because of this"So-so" feeling that I can only give this title Two Stars.

But if you own a multiregion DVD player (and if you are a serious anime fan then you really need to), and really like your anime, I should advise that you spend a little more money and import Animeigo's Bubblegum Crash Perfect Collection. It's worth the expense for the better quality.

Excellent buy, well worth the money

What can I say. The Simpsons DVD box sets have always been top quality. Every single episode has a audio commentary which is almost always funny and interesting. The dvd’s are bursting with extras - Deleted scenes, Storyboards, animation tutorials etc. This season in particular was amazing and this special edition box looks great on the outside and inside.

A MUST-HAVE!

The most pleasantly timeless family in world history.

Regardless of what anyone says, you can watch these episodes over... and over... and over... and over... and over again- believe me; I've watched all sixteen of the individual videos at least sixteen times each- they are lovely just to have on in the background while you do something on the computer, they're even better to stick in the VCR while you're in bed, and best of all: THEY-WILL-NEVER-GET-TIRESOME.

I thoroughly recommend buying all sixteen videos to compile into a library- it allows you to just sit indoors and still have a great time.

Brilliant.

An unusual and satisfying western

Seraphim Falls almost makes it into the territory of the great westerns. It is well acted (I haven't seen Brosnan this good in anything), beautifully shot and moves along at a wonderfully measured pace. Essentially, this is picaresque journey through the west structured around a revenge narrative. Neeson is tracking Brosnan. As the chase goes on, both parties meet interesting characters. And then they eventually meet face to face.

The film has a grit and a reality at its core, but also is alive to the sheer strangeness and multiplicity of the frontier, and the ending I found genuinely surprising. The one bum note in the film is the Neeson character's backstory which is, after all, the engine driving the whole narrative. The loss of his family is certainly reason enough for his quest, but as depicted it lacks power and drama (see, perhaps, The Outlaw Josey Wales for much more effective presentation of similar dramatic material).

Highly recommended.

Christmas Spirit!

Christmas cheer with the humour of The Simpsons! What better way to get into the festive spirit than with The Simpsons! This should be under everyones tree this year!

Great classic western!!!!!

Probably the best movie of this director: a true celebration of the legend of the American west. The movie tells the classic story of the gunfight at the OK Corral with sheriff Wyatt Earp: while it isn't historically realistic, it outshines ALL later attempt to do a more accurate version of the story. The reason is simple: Ford always said that"the legend is more interesting than the truth". Of course it's a Hollywood movie, and it's not a revisionist Peckimpah western, but it has interesting characters (even the lesser one such as the barman are believable and add some human touches), a solid plot, a great screenplay (don't miss the Shakespearean actor who wants to perform in a saloon!!!) and an EXTRAORDINARY B&W cinematography.

The FOX cassette version is very good!
