What a season!

At long last we've won the Champions League again! This dvd is a great momento of a wonderful season. Excellent quality production as usual.

Confused

The cast is quite good, the concept is somewhat doubtful with the elements of some tedious moralizing in places. It's no masterpiece and that unfortunate young man is no hero or adventurer, just a very confused individual possibly too egocentric and suffering some mental problems. and I was not moved or touched, nor found it easy to empathise with him but just kept thinking - what a waste and more importantly - why did he have to do this?

Another awesome season.

I am so looking forward to this dvd. S3 was an absolutely fantastic season with some amazing episodes and wonderful acting... by Jared Padalecki in particular. The season, although sadly cut short by the writers' strike, gave us heartbreaking sadness, kickass action, ghostly and demonic chills, gore, and laugh out loud comedy. Highlights of the season for me were Mystery Spot, A Very Supernatural Christmas, Fresh Blood and No Rest For The Wicked. And, as with S1 and S2, throughout there is the incredible chemistry between Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles which is the very heart of this show.

Who said books, what's more black books, could not be hilarious?

The English have a genre no one else has anywhere in the world. They call that comedies on television. Short less than half an hour episodes of situational humor positioned in one particular social niche. In this case it is a marginal book store held by a social drop out who hates all other human beings and yet cannot survive without constant contact with some of these strange animals we call human beings. Unable to love, unable to have any sentimental life with any person that would approach a gender definition. Yet he recuperate in his book store that becomes a haven for stray cats, though he hates cats, a flunked and failed accountant who is fired from his job because he is kind of abnormal for the job, both in looks and behavior. And he has a neighborly relation with the next door shop lady who is soon going to get out of business and remain behind like an errant animal. And the three of them are going to live the daily life of this book store. But it is nothing close to a social drama or anything social. It is nothing like a soap opera or even a sitcom. Those are more American, more normal, banal and less out of the way, funny or strange. The fun in American sitcoms or soap operas comes from the wit of the characters. The fun of English comedies comes from the situation and the slight details in the behavior, appearance, reactions of the characters that make them weird. There is always something unforeseen and unforeseeable because so much out of the way that we could not even think of it as being possible. Each episode has one unifying element that may get some follow up in the next episode, but there is no obligation. So the episode is not supposed to end on any suspense but on a punch line that signs the end as inescapable. And that final touch or detail is so amazing that you can only sit there flabbergasted and laughing like a baboon in the jungle shade. Have you ever heard one? Very weird, the laughter of the baboon. If you haven't I would advise you to go fast to some jungle and hear it, record it and then multiply it one thousand time into a two or three hour long baboon laughter. That should make you both happy and sad for some time and give you some pleasant dreams. Just like Black Books if you can put your hands or your dirty grubby fatty fingers on the series.

Great show, shame about the DVD!

The episodes themselves are excellent, but I felt I must deduct one star for Momentum's cost-cutting (or greed?) by not including ANY extras whatsoever, not even the most obvious candidate: the 2006 Christmas special ("On the Edge") in this set. Series 3 was only 7 episodes long (vs. series 2), so I can't believe it would be a problem of space. More likely, they held it back so they can charge us full"season" price for the one episode.

What makes this more regrettable is there are one or two references in these episodes to events that happened in"On the Edge" (i.e. Louisa's father). At the very least, they should have released the special BEFORE putting out series 3. Let's hope that if they DO release"On the Edge" later this year, that it at least has some decent extras on to make up for the short running time, and that they make it a"stand-alone" purchase (i.e. not bundled up exclusively in a"complete" series set, like the BBC did with series 2 of"Footballers Wives: Extra Time").

So much fun

I cant believe this was cancelled!!!!!!!!!!! it has to be the best tv box set i've seen in a while... really funny and great relationships between the stars..

Great Sweeney but too bad about Mrs Lovitt

This is a triumph for Burton and Depp but too bad about Mrs Lovitt. The direction is tight as a drum, and, although I am a fan of the full stage production, I didn't miss the music that was cut because it was not necessary for a film. Depp executes a role-defining characterisation and sings excellently giving the music a modern feel through his pop/rock style. Sacha Baron-Cohen was also nothing short of fabulous as was the young boy.

For the most part the acting is right on the money. The biggest exception was, unfortunately, the character of Mrs Lovitt. Mrs Lovitt is a pivotal character and her part requires an actor/singer who can act the songs using her voice, which requires some experience and technique. It isn't really a character to do for one's first musical. Unfortunately Ms Bonham-Carter does not generally sing everything in tune. The 'Poor Thing' scene is beautifully shot but difficult to listen to.

Some of the extras on the DVD are quite good, particularly Sweeney's London. The 'making of ...' sections (Usually my favourite) are chock full of Burton rationalising his choice of non-singers - although the major singing parts, apart from Mrs Lovitt, ARE primarily actor/singers.

Others have covered what my views on this, so I'll just say an excellent rendition of the original. Worth watching and re-watching.

the movie can not match the book

The Other Boleyn Girl is a historical novel written by British author Philippa Gregory, based on the life of 16th-century aristocrat Mary Boleyn, sister of Queen Anne Boleyn.It was a phenomenal success and popularity. I still remember when I bought the book"The Other Boleyn Girl" at a bookshop at Angel in LDN. I was hooked from page one. That lasted to the very last page. I honestly can not say that about the movie.

My disappointment does not result from historic side of thing as I am not expecting a movie (or a novel) to be historical accurate. However, this movie does not really catch the essence of the story told by Philippa Gregory, is not"round" and never really graps one. There are huge gaps in the story told and only if one really knows one's history one can follow. I particuarly dislike the last scene when it looks like that Mary Boleyn raises the future Queen Elisabeth I.

It is however a sumptous movie. I like the costume design done by Academy Award-winner Sandy Powelland and the whole setting. Natalie Portman as Anne Boleyn, Scarlett Johansson as Mary Boleyn and Eric Bana as Henry VIII were performing well without being brilliant. Both were by far outshone by Kristin Scott Thomas as Lady Elizabeth Boleyn and Ana Torrent as Catherine of Aragon. The scene when Catherine of Aragon kneels before the king when the court is going to judge her marraige is one of the best. But that is not the main story. The performance of Mark Rylance as Thomas Boleyn, father of the girls, I did not like at all.

It is not a waste of time to watch this movie, but do not have too high hopes.

This is pulp riding of the coat tails of a great series and special effects

The original Doctor Who was about ideas. That has gone. The original series lasting for 27 years manage to keep the feeling, mantras, and backstrory/culture(mostly). In this revamp all that is thrown away. This is worse even than the Peter Cushing movies for losing the plot. Science Fiction is escapism. The more you try to bring in gitty reality and ordinary people's unbalanced personalities, the more it becomes something else. In science fiction you travel to other worlds. In this, you never leave Earth (unless its to go to New Earth or New New Earth). Aliens are replaced by horror movie products such as were-wolves or the devil or zombies. I guess this is what happens as our society because more"educated" but less aware of what science is about. The so called"high-points" of all the series so far is to bring back old creatures for the classic series. Without that this series would have almost no new ideas. I have kept watching these series as I have always been a Doctor Who fan but without the name it would just be a fusion of James Bond and bad horror. The creators of this series eliminated all the back-story from the previous series (ie. the other Timelords, Gallifrey etc). Many people feel bitter that Chris Eccleston left after this series but the fact is that David Tennett was better. Its a shame that Billy Piper didn't leave at the same time as she is a very poor actress.

Get the 2 disc collectors edition - NOW

There is not much to be said that has not already been covered in the reviews written but I would just like to add that this 2 disc collectors edition is amazing. It is really double the fun because there is so much more to watch and enjoy.

I guess I am already preaching to the converted if you are ready this but Nemo is a firm winner in our house.

Could have been so much better

I enjoyed the book very much, so when I heard that they were making a film of it I couldn't wait. I broke one of my golden rules and that is buying a DVD without renting it first or seeing it at the cinema.When I finally managed a quiet evening to myself I put it on imagine my upset to find that it was nothing like the book at all, no streamy scenes as it was a 12 rating the book is full of them. leading actors dull with no passion I wanted to give them all a big kick.The only saving grace is the costumes. If you are looking for a steamy romp don't bother with this film, wait until season two of the Tudors comes out it may not be historially corrected but at least the actors have passion.

Best season yet

Shortly before the end of the third season, Lost was looking rather tired; loose ends were piling up and stories were beginning to be recycled.

But season 4 brought a reinvigorated approach. The use of 'flash-forwards' as well as the familiar flashbacks - whilst initially disorienting - adds a welcome depth and mystery to the narrative, eclipsing even the first season for sheer TV brilliance.

Tremendously poor!

The whole film was, in my opinion, a complete shambles! The story is fragmented and poorly written and most importantly was completely devoid of any humour. I see that this film has split the audience and I side with the haters on this one. And I hate to do that. I loved the series and thought it was a travesty it was cancelled but if this is the best they can do then maybe it was better gone and leaving us with 4 seasons of top quality comedy.

Many people say"The Secret" is evil, PLEASE GET RID OF IT NOW!!!!

Since the Secret was released a few years ago, life on earth has become harder and harder, with more wars and killings every day, and some say its because of the movie"The Secret". Since"The Secret" was released a few years ago, the following horrible changes have occured all over the entire world:

1)Starvation and food shortages have increased 360 percent!
2)Poverty and malnutrition have increased 530 percent!
3)Innocent children are dying everwhere!
4) Horrible serial killings are up 342 percent!
4) Gas prices have gone up 300 percent!
5 Energy and utility costs are up 300 percent!
6) Innocent people are being killed by the thousands every day!
7) Before"the Secret" was released, none of this ever occured!
8) People are much more angry than ever!
9) Life has lost meaning for many because of the Secret!
10) Some say this movie should be banned!
11) Please ban it now, its horrible!

A very special movie...

This is one of the greatest animated car films ever made. The detail is amazing, the flies are VW bugs for instance. There is not one human being in the whole movie. Instead of using Headlights to give the cars expression they took the unusual step of using the windscreen. The effect is clever. Paul Newman was an inspired choice for Doc hudson, and the cameo of Michael Schumacher (former F1 driver) is a wonderful surprise. There are many very funny moments. It is watchable many times over and details you missed in earlier viewings often appear subsequently. The car haters, Guardian Readers, and those who dislike a simple story will be bored. But in fact the story does have a moral, and its about swallowing your pride. What is more it does have a plot with some nice twists and turns (pardon the pun!) Anyone who dismisses this film just has not got the point. For an animated film to appeal to both adults and kids alike, it has to be special. This is one such very special movie. Disney Pixar has done it again,dont hesitate to buy this DVD

The Greatest Comic Book movie ever made on Blu Ray --Oh Yes!!

One word describes this Blue Ray.......Awesome.

I'm sure everyone knows this actual movie by know and if you have never seen it before then you must have lived in a BAT Cave (see what i did there) for 3 years.
Christian Bale does a truly amazing job as DC Comics's Dark Knight BATMAN, in this re telling of BATMAN! it starts the movies all over again, and thanx to Joel Schumachers pathetic Batman Forever & the even worse Batman and Robin it was much needed. Accompanied by a stella cast including Micheal Cain, Gary Oldman , Morgan Freedman, Liam Neeson, Cillian Murphy and loads more, it beats Superman 2 and Spidey 2 to the greatest Super Hero Film of all time!
Now its on Blu Ray too, this film looks amazing in Hi-DEF- previously only avail on HD_DVD you can now experience this amazing fim with crystal clairity and perfect blu ray sound. The opening scenes of Ras Al Gouls palace thing takes your breath away as does there the city scape scenes of Gotham. Infact every scene looks HD terrific.

The special features to deserve a mention everything the DVD has and more, PIP directors commentry and loads of featurettes. The best bit though! you get the first 6 minutes of The Dark Knight! and it got me very excited! can't wait for it.

The actual box the Blu ray comes in is also impressive with a cool holographic front cover with the moving BATs and the cool art cards this was a bargin price. I have this movie on DVD and I still think the Blu Ray was a bargin, there not many pf my DVD's i will bother to get on Blu Ray too but this is def one worth getting!

I don't get it!

Is it me or is this really one of the worst movies ever made?

The Story....

The whole home movie idea could have been great. The first half hour revolves around a party which is meaningless to the whole plot. Then something hits the city, a monster I guess, from what you could see from the camera angles. Next a small group of friends decide to rescue a friend who lives in the city. The group of friends slowly declines. The friend is found, two are left. The two hide under a bridge in central park. The movie ends with yourself thinking... what? I don't understand what just happened in those 90 minutes of my life.

Judge for yourself, however if you feel like wasting an hour and a half of your life, then watch Cloverfield.

THE BEST RAMBO EVER

Stallone did a very good job here, both in front and behind the camera. Incredibly well paced (and quite short) this is an excellent action film, but ultra gory. The story is simple: a group of missionaries ask Rambo to take them from Thailand to Burma by boat. As they arrive there, they are captured. Rambo is asked to free them, together with a group of mercenaries.
It's top-notch action with a realistic background. Violence towards civilians is realistically portrayed and there are no atrocities left out.
