A dissapointment.

A disappointment on nearly every level.
It is such a shame that the legacy of Life On Mars has been reduced to the caricature that is Ashes to Ashes.

Great workout the positive reviews were justified

I was actually going to buy a different exercise dvd but the good reviews for this one swayed me. The instructor is really pleasant (I havent heard of her but shes in that sexy 80s style call on me video) she is good at instructing and from the warm up onwards you will get a really good exercise session. There is a lot of bouncing around (in a dancy Ibiza sort of way) so if you live in a flat the people downstairs may not like you too much! But I would really recommend this workout - its taxing but you do feel like doing it regularly - honest!

Watch it !!!

The Notebook is probably the most romantic, sad, happy & wonderful film I have ever seen. It makes me sob out loud everytime I see it but it is also a reminder that true love really exists.
After watching the film I read the book by Nicholas Sparks and found it to be one of the very rare occasions when the film is far better than the book (although the book is very good too!)
I urge everyone to see this film at least once in their lives. My manly boyfriend even had a tear in his eye at the end!

Advertising nightmare

Each time you put this Blu-ray into your player you are forced (non-skippable) to sit through 2 minutes of SONY advertising BLU RAY! What pathetic individual at Sony thought they could endear people to their product by forcing them to sit through an advertisement for a product that they obviously have?

Oh and there's tons of product placement in the film but that doesn't matter.

What's an adventure if it's not on TV?

Having seen both Long Way Round and Long Way Down in various incarnations I have to wonder why they bothered. If the idea of an adventure around the world on a motorbike is unthinkable without a support crew and a cameraman to record it, then I must be missing something.

In Long Way Round they meet up with Ted Simon - who McGregor claims was the inspiration for the trip. There they were, loaded up with free bikes, more kit than they could carry, support staff and minders at every corner, and still finding it hard going... all the while gushing at the resilience and fortitude of Simon - the quintessential traveller who always got by with a rickety bike and meagre provisions. The crushing irony seemed lost on them.

Having read both Ted Simon's biking books I can quite confidently say there is more magic, more adventure, more romance, more balls even, in his description of the simple act of making a cup of tea under a starry African sky. He was all alone, had no idea what tomorrow would bring or how long his bike would last. No ego, no tv camera, just self-reliance and guts. Now THAT is adventure. These two jokers make movies, and this series is nothing more than that: two jokers making a movie.

The best of the series

I was surprised by how good this is. I wouldn't describe it as brilliant, but it is the strongest and darkest of all the Batman films. After the dross that was 'Batman and Robin' I wasn't expecting much - so I was gratified by how successful this account of how Batman became Batman is. In many ways it feels like an entirely separate film, with elements of the story not matching up with the other films in the 'sequence'. However, it doesn't suffer from this.

One thing I liked is that this is very much a post 9/11 film, the badies being quasi-religious fanatics who want to destroy New York, rather than just rob it. Interesting to see how the fantasies we create reflect our current fears.

Absolutely Excellent!

I do remember catching the odd episode when it was broadcast but I really didn't pay too much attention to it then.

I recently received this item as a present and, to be honest, was slightly disappointed and thought it'd end up on ebay :-)

However, I watched the whole lot in just a couple of days. The writing is just fantastic and I haven't laughed that much in ages. Dylan Moran and Bill Bailey are fantastic and the complete extremes of characters works so well.

I really can recommend getting this box set, you won't regret it.

A must-have for die hard fans, but...

Futurama fans-dry your tears! Fry and the rest of the gang are back to your screens, albeit in a strange new format.
The unfortunate cancelation of Futurama after the forth season lead to viewers crying out for more, so Fox finaly agreed to make four DVD movies featuring our favourite delivery boy and evil robot. The thing is, Futurama was never designed for this format, so, as good as Bender's Big Score is, it doesn't quite come up to the quality of the TV show.

What I did enjoy was the way that the extended format allowed the writers to go for a slightly different and more in depth story than normal. Basically the plot goes like this; Fry, Leela et al. are scammed out of all their money and Bender accidently downloads an"Obeidence Virus" due to naked scammer aliens fraudulently obtaining first their e-mail addresses and then their bank details online. The scammer aliens go first from taking over the Planet Express company to taking over earth. The aliens later find the secret of time travel concealed in a Bender tattoo on Fry's behind. What follows is a mix of time spheres, one-way time travel and multiple Frys and Benders.

Some reviewers have critised Bender's Big Score for being bogged down in detail and too confusing, but actually if you pay attention the plot comes together nicely and does make sense. There are some moments of classic Futurama humour, the scenes on the nude beach planet and the internet scamming scenes are particularly good. However, some of the gags are too self-referencial,for example we find out exactly how Fry's dog got fast fossilised, and are not very funny. In addition the main story-of Bender being sent back in time to steal treasures for the scammers- and the romantic subplot, though touching, don't inspire too many laughs.
And comedy is about laughs, is it not?

Overall I would say that if you are an avid Futurama fan and collector of the DVDs then this is a must-have, even if it does not become the most prized part of your collection. If you are a casual viewer who still loves the show's zany humour then rent it and if you have only seen Futurama a few times on T.V, then I think Bender's Big Score is best avoided.

Really Good

I have been active for years, but had stopped exercising for a while, really felt the weight pile on so thought I would try out a few DVD's. This one appealed because of the toning aspect, and not jumping around. I exercise everyday and alternate areobic and toning and this one is great! I have had this 3 months now and still enjoy putting this dvd on, knowing that I can do either the full 50 mins or 10 mins, each part warms you up and cools you down as part of the routine, and I can still feel it working. Really do recommend this as a toning dvd.

Brilliant

I really like this film. It's refreshingly different and so is the ending. Much more real life with people with real problems. I'd recommend it.

Extraordinary and Unique

Saw this last night and I was spellbound. It won't be everyone's cup of tea but I adored it. Cate Blanchet, Ben Whishaw, Christian Bale, and the very young Marcus Carl Franklin (superb) were all outstanding. The impressionistic film portrayed the times and Dylan's world beautifully. What can I say - keep an open mind and try to see this on a large screen with good sound. Otherwise you may not"be there".

There is only one!

I watched my first One Tree Hill episode completely by accident when i was off uni with the flu. It brightened my day no end and i have been obsessed ever since. It's not as cringeworthy as Dawson's Creek and not as false as The OC. The five main characters are all so likeable, even bad bot Nate while the adults also provide grat storylines and more diversity. Some of the best humour comes from the parents and Coach 'Whitey' Durham. A legend in the making.

Series one is all about developing relationships and how they are all interlinked. My favourite is the Haley/Nathan scenario as it was so unexpected My favourite character has to be Brooke though as initially she was the good time girl but throughout the series you get see more of her as she develops. Comparisons could be made to Summer (The OC) but this would be unfair to Sophia Bush as she has made Brooke an instantly loveable charcter and has a wicked sense of humour. One of my favourite episodes has to be the away game where all the girls end up in the car together while Brooke is high and Nate and Lucas end up being forced to work together to escape their rivals. Hilarious!!!

I find myself identifying with every character and find it a far more intelligent teen drama when compared to it's peers.

Absoluty Brilliant

This is definitly one of the best shows i have watched in a long time, it seems to include everything you could wish for in a show. The storyline for this show is a piece of genius, however someone thought of this a do not know, it is original and at the same time great. Its not just the storyline which is great, the charectors created are marvelous as well, making the show brilliant. This the second and final series of the show which continous on from the fantastic first series which was just as good as the second. The series still follows Sam trying to get home, while still trying to understand why he is here in the first place. A must watch show for all.

CSI at its best

This is yet another DVD that I bought to fill out my collection (mostly because I already own all the other CSI boxsets) and yet again I wasn't disappointed. This set includes some of the best episodes so far in the CSI history, although sometimes it does focus slightly too much on the minor characters. Having said that, it has made me appreciate Hodges and his sarcasm that little bit more...

Seriously under-rated film!

Having read, and thoroughly enjoyed the Pullman trilogy in print, if I were the author, I would be absolutely delighted to have my work presented in such a visually exciting manner. Pacy and thrilling representaion in visual terms with excellent cast and solid performances, especially from the young heroine.

I find myself impatient for part two.

Good season, but nowhere near as gd as 1 + 2,

I have to give this 3 stars, i feel i may have given it one more star, but it almost feels like seinfeld in a way because seinfeld quality dipped in the final few seasons. I almost wet my pants though seeing the introduction of the blacks, who are hilarious.
Being a diehard fan of curb, I have to be more critical as I've watched it from the start, I mean the people saying it is the best season is ridiculous as they must not have seen the first 3 to say something like that.
I feel the quality has dipped since series 2 for one reason, they are masterpieces, and the style of the show back then was cutting edge and was unlike anything else on tv, basically it was more realistic.
The whole style of the show now is made for a wider audience now i believe, but it is still very funny in a different way, series 6 is better than any other comedy on tv, because larry david is a complete comedy genius. I love the"amonymous donor" episode as his chemistry with leon is soo hilarious and his dislike for ted danson is priceless.
overall a must buy for a curb fan, and i feel 1 more season is enough as seinfeld dragged to long, btw i'd love seinfeld to be in an episode in the next season.

The greatest TV show ever made.

You see that this has had reviews already and it hasn't even screened in the UK? That's because this show creates obsessives, diehards who stream it after some US fan rips it and puts it online. It creates fans so dedicated that they watch it on some crappy streaming site, then buy it all over again and lend it out to friends, who in turn buy it. This show creates its own language between people, codes and characters to identify with.

Series five is not the best series of The Wire in my opinion, but The Wire at its worst is still absolutely fantastic. It's the final series too, so all the threads you want tied up get tied up whilst leaving the openness of what happens next in the show's 'reality' down to you in a phenomenally satisfying way.

Yes there are fewer episodes, but the final episode is feature length, so it's roughly as long as all the other series. To understand it fully, you need to watch in order. It cannot be understated how excellent and important this show was; it shows us that we can still make things that matter.

SATC

I didn't actually think i would like sex and the city. I bought it on dvd and absoloutely loved it. I think that everyone who watches this loves it. Sex and the City is amazing i don't know what i'd do without it.

A DVD worthy of the show

As other reviews have stated the show really hit it's stride during the second season and loses none of it's quality over the third season. The new characters are interesting and well acted while the story continues to be both hilarious and touching.

What really surprised me was the quality of the DVD offering. As a show that has a limited fanbase outside of it's home country my expectations were of an understandably limited port to DVD. However, the disk comes packed with many interesting extras, original footage and hours of deleted scenes, most of which are excellent and can only have been cut for time constraint reasons (though some do seem to detract from the characters and should maybe be taken out of the context of the show).

My only complaint is that some scenes do seem to be completely missing from it's US counterpart and were not included in the deleted scenes. Most of these were unimportant bits that added little and were arguably better edited out though some I feel should have made an appearance, at least in with the other deleted scenes!

Still, if you are interested in getting in to this show then start from season 2 and enjoy what is easily the best comedy to come out of America since Arrested Development.

Manchester United - End Of Season Review 2007/2008
Having watched the full DVD i can say that it is without doubt a great addition to any collection, with all the matches covered in what was a truly amazing roller coaster ride of a season. When watching J.Terry take his penalty i am still on tender hooks in case this time he scores ! ( and i was lucky to be in Moscow). The DVD quality is excellent on my copy so the reviewer who had a grainy copy must have been unlucky. If you are a united fan you will enjoy this over and over again, SAF once again confining his critics to the also ran section of media life.
