Does what it says on the tin

This is a good machine. I've only had it a day now, so haven't 'rinsed' it yet but the picture is superb - far better than the Phillips I was eyeing in Dixons which was £20 cheaper. It's as good as my front room TV set, no exaggeration.

Payed the extra £20 because the Phillips only had 2 hours playback which I thought was a bit sheeeeite. Sony typically offers 5+ which is more like it, at least two films worth. Downside to this is that the rechargeable battery provided fits under the unit and is the same size as it and bloody heavy. This is the only real negative, it's a relatively weighty carry for the size, but that's what you get for the longer battery I suppose.

In house speaker is very poor but I suspect most would use headphones for such a device so not really an issue for me. It would be very tinny if you intended to watch it hands free.

So far I have only tested it with a few DVD's and as I say pic quality very good. I even tried it with a few copied 'Johnny Vaughan' movies I bought from a bloke on the internet and they played fine too.

WHY HAVE THEY PRINTED A DARK BLUE INK ON THE WRITING SURFACE?

I recently bought a spindle of 50 - only to find the graphics surface not only has far too much of the TDK logo elements splashed across the surface where consumers personal writing should be - but they have printed the surface in a dark blue metallic ink. I used a couple but found, even with a thick black pen, the dark blue ink made my writing very difficult to read, and the reflective nature of the ink gave my writing a 'ghosted' double appearance. I was so annoyed I threw them in the bin and bought another brand. TDK - IF YOU EVER READ THIS - TAKE A GOOD REVIEW OF THIS WITH YOUR GRAPHICS DEPARTMENT & DON'T LOSE CUSTOM OVER SOMETHING SO AVOIDABLE!

Works great with PS3 to Plasma TV

I have used this cable to connect my 60Gb PS3 with my Samsung 42" Plasma TV (model PS-42P3S). The TV is not HD ready, but due to the DVI connection supporting a better picture resolution, the picture quality is greatly improved. Highly recommended!

Thor scart to scart cable

I was a bit disappointed with my LCD TV picture not looking as good as I thought it should. Did a bit of research on the net and concluded that maybe I needed to upgrade my cabling. Ordered a couple of Thor scart to scart cables, one to connect the Sky+ box to the TV and one for the DVD player. When the cables arrived I connected them up, not expecting to see much difference. But, wow, the difference is incredible. Sound quality much better, picture sharpness vastly improved and colours much more vivid and true to life.

Buy these cables - you won't regret it!!

Good and Bad

I bought the cheapest scart connector i could find just because i wanted to connect my cheap dvd player to my cheap (and old) tv. I neglected to read the other reviews before hand, which isn't usually like me.

When i received the product it was straight out of the packet and into the back of the units. I tried to put the first one in with a little difficulty and realised about 3 or 4 pins were bent to the side. I bent them back into place which was quite easy and proceeded to plug them in. Although only one end had bent pins, both were a very snug fit and required almost forcing the connector into the socket.

Poor manufacturing aside, the picture and sound are better than i expected for such a cheap product. I won't be unplugging it very much at all, until i upgrade my tv at which point i'll most likely bin the scart system completely!

If you want something cheap and cheerful and you don't mind 'altering' it to fit then here's your product.

Perfect start for a beginner

Plays brilliantly and looks good on the stand too!

The sound quality is good. It took about 5 minutes to tune with the electronic tuner that's included. The build is robust and of a decent standard.

There are three plectrums of varying gauges so you can find which one you prefer. And a spare set of strings which is a must.

The bag is a soft padded bag with unpadded backstrap and carry handle. It's ok for short journeys or in the car but I wouldn't risk it on a busy tube. I haven't sussed out how to attach the strap to the guitar yet, but I don't play standing up so that's no big deal for me.

The stand is usefull for preventing damage. It has a nice plectrum holder too.

All in all - fantastic value for money. A great gift idea.

The cable arrived within 48 hours of ordering, and it worked fine straight out of the clear plastic bag it came in. Even allowing for the fairly hefty post and packing charge of £3.99, the total cost was just half of what I paid for a similar (though not gold-plated) SCART cable from my local electrical store. Based on my experience, I give this product five stars.

Good value case

I needed a reasonable case to carry my DCR-SR55E around in, but didn't want to pay the earth. This is a Sony branded case which fits most of today's small format camcorders quite snugly. It has the main compartment for the camera, and perhaps a cable or two, which has a double zip fastening and a Velcro fastening pocket which really doesn't hold very much at all! A spare battery or other small item. It has one adjustable strap which goes over the shoulder.

Lightly padded, it offers a degree of protection to the contents. If you just need to travel light, and don't need to carry a lot of accessories, this case could be just the job for you. If you need more space then you'd better look elsewhere!

Cheap is not always the best option.

Cheap in this case means poor build quality and high interference. I would steer clear from this item and spend a few more pounds. Don't make the mistake I made, now having to buy a replacement better quality cable.

good but confusing picture

just received it but cant try it yet. quality looks good enough... however, only includes one 3.5mm adaptor (not 2 as shown in the picture). i only needed one anyway so its fine for me.

does not do anything, waste of money

Its not some sort of advanced technology, the cleaner disk literaly has a small row of 2mm long brushes. Guess what, they dont do anything. My dvd player was a bit hit and miss when reading disks before and it still is. Don't waste your money, it's a joke of a product.

Not as good as reviews suggest

I recently bought these speakers for a laptop - and to be honest the internal laptop speakers are better (and they arent up to much) - Maybe I was expecting too much given previous reviews. I found sound is tinny, theres a major lack of bass and the maximum volumn level I could get out of them was pretty poor.
But I suppose at the price its a case of getting what you pay for.

A little confussed

Got the system a few weeks ago. Best cinema surround ive ever bought, for the price i payed £110.
Not being the most technically minded though, and hoping for a little advice here. I cant seem to get my tv, cable, or PS3 to work through it. Would be grateful for any pointers to help a technophobe out here

This great TV seems to do it all

I have just taken delivery of this TV after waiting 2 months for it to come into stock, but it was worth the wait.
Not only does the TV look great, it does everything you could ever want of a TV:
- It has digital (freeview) and analogue tuners.
- It plays DVDs (including DivX and MP3).
- It displays photos via the built in card reader (SD, MMS and MS).
- It plays AVI movies (on a USB drive) via the USB port.
- It can be connected to a PC for use as a monitor.
- It has every port you can possibly imagine on the back (HDMI, SCART, Common Interface, TV Aerial Input, PC Input, Audio Input, S-Video, Composite Video and YPBPR).
It is quite easy to set up, although the instructions are a little patchy in places and the remote control is not as intuitive as it could be. Never-the-less it is a superb TV and comes highly recommended.

A great wire.

This is £50-£70 quality wire for just under £20. I would recommend even for those very demanding customers

you get what you pay for

Bought this a part of a dvd player package.Well as i said you get what you pay for-1st the casing fell off then there was a persistent hum on all the dvds whenever there should have been silence.A waste of £1.99-off to comet to get something better for my mother's Christmas present.

Great Looking Stand

Ordered this stand last week, and am really pleased with it.

I actually phoned up the company and ordered it direct with them (as I needed it delivered on a Saturday, and I couldn't specify this via Amazon). They were able to organise a Saturday delivery (for a £15 premium - but that's worth it for the convenience I think).

I was a bit worried about it turning up broken, the majority of it being being made of glass (and bearing in mind the review below which mentioned a broken delivery), but when I spoke to the company, they told me to write"tatty box" on the delivery guy's sheet when I signed for it, so if it was broken, they would rpelace it immediately for me.

I needn't have worried though, as it turned up packed extremely securely, with a lot of polystyrene, and the box itself had wooden slats inside to provide strength to the box and stop things moving about in transit.

The unit was very easy to put together, took about 15-20 minutes, didn't need any tools (just the alan key that was in the box), and it is now sitting in the corner of my room with a 40" Sony x-series on it, and it looks awesome.

All in all, would thoroughly reccomend it, easy to make, looks great and at sub £100, is a bargain versus the competion.

Belkin for the Win

If you have a PS2 or a DVD player with an Optical Audio Out and a 5.1 speaker system with Dobly Surround or DTS encoding then Buy this lead! For one, you can't go wrong with a Belkin cable. But more importantly for the price this cable gives you incredible and superior sound quality than other methods. Not to mention its true Dobly Surround and DTS.

I bought this for my PS2 to connect it to my PC which has 5.1 Speakers and an optical input. Sony were so nice to put an Optical Output on the PS2, and the sound quality that you get compared to scart to your TV is amazing. E.g. Shadow of the Colossus has amazing fully orchestrated music that sounds even better via this cable. For around [...] this cable is a bargin! Buy it!
