What about the soundtrack ?

This 5 disc collection is great as per all the comments in the other reviews, but one thing I was a little disappointed with was there no feature on vangelis's superb soundtrack which I think is one of the films defining qualities, ah well that's my opinion or is it Tyrell's nephew.

Great Series - too much information from reviews

We think 'Smallville' from start to finish is great entertainment. I would ask some reviewers to please restrain their enthusiasm by giving toooooooooo much information away on the Series plot. To say what happens to that character or that character dies off is spoiling the program for others. Great TV. We never watched when released on the TV channels and to watch without commercial breaks (like any series) is fantastic !!

Playing and preaching Bob Marley doth not a serious movie make.

The equation of a director of Britney Spears/Jennifer Lopez music videos + the saviour of the world from Independence Day was always going to give flickering noisy horde-fighting explosive tripe.

There's 10 better zombie movies on the shelves (just fast forward to get the same effect) and there's dozens of 'cool guy saves the world' movies but in them the central actor doesn't get out-performed by a dog. Will Smith does not even come close to being able to carry a movie on his own the way Tom Hanks did in Cast Away. When he starts trying to get a manequin to talk to him it's one of the most winceable scenes imaginable and you don't know whether a laugh track is going to kick in or whether an alien/robot/zombie is going to smash through the window to save him from the folly of his ridiculous acting.

The plot, acting, and monsters end up being a seriously annoying distraction to the very well done backdrop of ghost town New York...as soon as the monsters get introduced the rest is pretty much predictable popcorn selling drivel.

Avoid like the plague.

i have watched this movie and would like to watch it again, the 2 main actors were the right people for this film. and it was very touching.
i have ordered this film and it is going with my other dvd collection also.

Superb Second Season

After the action and suspense of season 1 I began to watch the follow up with a feeling of trepidation. Yes I was excited to see what was in store for the former inmates of Fox River but on the other hand, how many prisons can anyone break out of? However, I was wrong.

This season follows the escapees as they stake their claim for freedom. During which they run from the authorities, battle personal demons, hatch plans and make and make crucial decisions. I found myself gripped and stimulated by the depth of the characters, plot twists and the suspense created by each episode.

The escapees are constantly tested, both collectively and individually which helps you gain a better understanding of their motives and psyche. Stories which began in the 1st season are developed, which help to add clarity. New characters are introduced adding sub plots and intrigue along the way

I'm a prison break fan and I think this is a clever, interesting and slick drama series. This season has all the ingredients to keep most hooked and I had no qualms giving it 5 stars.

Curse of the Golden Flower

'Curse of the Golden Flower' is an epic saga of family loyalty and betrayal. The direction is truly sumptuous and the use of colour is as beautiful as in this directors other highly lauded films. The story kept me engaged the whole time and the film sets and costumes were amazing to see. The acting is excellent and you barely even notice you're reading subtitles this film keeps you so engrossed. Although not strictly a martial arts film, this does have some excellent martial arts scenes and the end battle is an epic tour de force. This is one to watch and appreciate again and again. Highly recommended.

Much better, but still...

I enjoyed the pop-corned theatrical cut of"Troy", but not enough to buy the DVD. I especially appreciated the effort to create an accurate, rather than an spectacular, environment. This cut is much, much better. Not so much better as"Alexander revisited", but has dealt with many of the flaws of the original cut, such as poor development of characters and the softness in battles. All actors (but one, guess who) are great, especially Eric Bana. But I do not give it all five stars for one reason: its two huge inaccuracies that make the plot in the movie, and its pace, resent: one, the war at Troy was told to last for many years, adding great depth and intensity to the drama; two, Patroclus was actually Achilles' lover, and only that can explain his getting so mad when the boy was killed. It is a very good movie in this cut, but, too bad, should have been better to start with.

fantastic film. a must-see

Great story, fantastic acting from the leads and exquisite set. if you like Ang-lee's films, this is unmissable.

Shame on the Chinese authorities who have banned the commercials by the leading actress, Tang-wei, banned her from all Chinese media and banned all her public appearances, because they said her celebrity was a result of her nudity in the film, and that this would have bad influence on young people in China. as a result of the ban, all companies and film makers who signed her up dropped her.
The Chinese authorities also criticized the film because at the end of the film, only a pro-japanese character lives, therefore according to them, this film is tantamount to treason. they sacked all those involved in approving the film for release in China.
first of all Ang-Lee is Taiwanese who learned film craft in the US. He is not one of the millions of brain-washed, oppressed people in communist China who have to regulate their conduct according to the sayings of Mao and communist government's idiotic definition of patriotism and unenlightened view on artistic expression. he is an artist and he does not need to make films to please nor endorse communist Chinese politics.
A young and talented actress will have no career to speak of because of this ban by totalitarian communist authorities. i find this incredible and revolting. i salute Tang-wei and hope she leaves freedom-less China and make a career for herself in Hollywood.

what a fantastic series Henno (Ross Kemp yes ladies Grant from Eastenders) is the typical hard arse Seargeant which he plays very well and Jamie Draven (Billy Elliot) plays his roll very well the weaponry and equipment that are used is awesum night goggles and the rest of the boys toys are just great, If you are a fan of the SECRET SERVICE then this is what you should be buying. I was also very shocked to see real life Ex SAS hero Chris Ryan in series 1 for those who aint got a clue who he is he was the man the man who got away avaded capture in the classic true life story of the Bravo 2 zero team in the first gulf war facing the desert heat during the day and the freezing cold temps at night sadly tho 3 members of the team were killed. treat yourself gents over and out

"In any war there are heroes on both sides..."

Excellent wire-work choreography is stunning to look at, but it doesn't make a great film on its own.

Initially I thought that that was all I was going to get, the film didn't seem to offer much more than the un-named hero telling three stories of how he managed to kill the three most wanted would-be assassins to the Emperor....

...But how wrong I was - what appears to be an over simplistic story ends up gloriously laced with twists and by the end of the film you fully understand, and have a respect for both the assassins and the Emperor.

As with House of Flying Daggers, there is a reliance of colours throughout the film, with many scenes using mainly grey visuals with an emphasis on one bright colour. This seems to be one of Yimou Zhang's signatures as a director and is incredibly effective at giving the film a stylish look, and many of the colours are symbolic in some way.

I've already mentioned the choreography, and this is coupled with some effective CGI. Sometimes CGI can appear obvious and results in you stepping out of the film as believability ebbs away. But here it looks natural, and adds to the epic feel of the film - the arrows from the archers in the battle scenes are amazing, and the visuals of such a vast army are breathtaking.

In a nutshell: What I thought was going to be a pretty shallow film became an epic with a deep emotional edge. There are no 'goodies' or 'baddies' in this film - just people who are prepared to die for what they believe in. We are left in silent respect in front of the screen at the end, but with the knowledge that after the credits have rolled, those who were prepared to die for their beliefs, gave their lives to make a change.

Stunning.

I enjoyed this film as much as I have enjoyed any movie in quite a while, finding many aspects of the whole thing quite stunning. This new graphic comic tint as seen in a similar fashion in Sin City really grabs me and the sound effects were absolutely marvellous.
The other worldly characters and mysterious armies from over the ocean make this more than just a war film, adding depth and colour to the basic storyline.
The DVD is also crammed with a plethora of extras which are almost worth the price themselves, but rest assured, if you are new to the film, it will stay with you for sometime.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

WOW

Well!! the best Batman yet!! Christian Bale adds that very dark and devious side to Batman. Let's face it most comic book hero's have a dark side.. More Christian Bale please. Looking forward to seeing Ed Norton as the Hulk now that's a challenge for Mr Ed.

Poseidon

I enjoyed seeing this new version of Poseidon. Please note that the Amazon picture shows of this title is HD DVD And DVD Combi this is not the case as the item that I recieved was only the HD DVD not the hybrid disc as picture. I would have given this 4 Stars had it been as shown on Amazon.

Ultimate Force: Review

I've been a keen follower of Ross Kemp's and Chris Ryan's Ultimate Force series since the beginning. During the Gulf War in 1991, I was only three years old and obviously didn't have a care in the world. My father served for 8 years in the regiment and although I know he's trying to protect me, I'm old enough (17!) to ask questions which he refuses to answers.

His best mate, my ''Uncle Charlie'' gives me answers and I find they're almost spot on with Ultimate Force. For example, Heather Peace (Becca) as a trooper is a farce but Caroline Walsh as an officer was fine. The effects are also brilliant and the storylines precise - (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and so on.)

I have to admit, in my opinion, Ultimate Force became a little less enjoyable without Jamie Draven (Jamie), Tony Curran (Pete) and Danny (Ricky Mann). They looked the part. Fearsome soldiers which belong to the best Special Forces in the world - Anyone Agree?

I have seen the first two episodes of Series 4 on ITV but the 'executives' decided to postpone the rest because of gun-phobic people complaining. Can't wait for September until I can get my hands on it...

Hope it carries on for at least two more seasons.

don't complain but not much enjoyable

watched this film with a bit of expectation as it had lots of stars from other viewers. yes probably enjoyable for those who love to see fluffy action scenes but was not for me. just plain and boring. I will give 2 stars, but up to 3 stars if you are a fan of action movie with no story line.

Nothing wrong with shooting as long as all the right people get shot.

Seeing as how DIRTY HARRY was the first film I remember seeing (I guess I was about 8 years old....Thanks Dad!) I'm easily pleased when it comes to Eastwood's seminal cop series. However, even if I wasn't already such a huge fan, I would still be extremely impressed with the outstanding package Warners have put together for this re-release.
There is a plethora of refreshingly excellent new documentaries placed alongside all the extras duplicated from the previous boxset and feature plenty of fresh, insightful contributions from many involved in the films, including the man himself. There is a particulary good documentary looking at the impact of violence in films that has some very astute points to make. The real treats however for fans are the commentaries.
There are commentary tracks on each film, though the best are from those directly involved in the film-making process, rather than scholars or biographers. There are, alas, no commentaries from Eastwood himself and Richard Schickel's contributions do unfortunately prove a little dry, However the boxset is worth owning simply on the basis of John Milius's (as always) outstanding commentary for MAGNUM FORCE. His gloriously un-p.c.commentary track should have you laughing your ass off until the very end. Wonderful stuff. James Fargo, another gun fanatic (perhaps the best qualification to make a Dirty Harry picture!) provides another fabulous track on THE ENFORCER.
The box set also comes with the excellent feature length documentary, OUT OF THE SHADOWS and a host of other, non-dvd merchandise, including Harry's badge! No Smith and Wesson model 29 included, however. Overall, a wonderful box set that does tremendous justice to Eastwood's essential series.
