Review for Die Hard 4.0 [Blu-ray] [2007]:
DTS Only!
This is a great movie, but there are two reason I've gave it three stars. It looks amazing but the soundtrack is only available in DTS, there is no Dolby Digital option which is strange considering it is the more popular of the two. If your amp isn't capable of doing DTS then you will be left with a bog standard Dolby Pro Logic track which is a disappointment. Surely Blu Ray has room for Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS? Also it's not the extended uncut version that was released on DVD.If you have DTS then add a star for what is an excellent film, otherwise I'd stick to the DVD version.

Review for Almost Famous [Extended Edition] [Blu-ray] [2000]:
Where are the extras ?
This is the extended version of the film (aka Untitled) and is BluRay regions A,B,C (according to the box). The soundtrack is in English TrueHD and a strange Polish soundtrack (it's the English soundtrack with Polish spoken over the top). You get two extras"Love Comes And Goes" which is a series of out-takes from the film and"Lester Bangs Interview" which is 5 minutes of the man talking about music. Picture and sound are, as expected, an improvement on the DVD, especially for the concert footage. Though what happened to all of the extras from the double DVD Untitled set is anyone's guess. So the film itself is five star but this BluRay edition only gets 3 because it doesn't even have the extras from the existing DVD set.44
Review for Transformers - The Movie [Blu-ray] [1986]:
I cannot for the life of me understand why people would think this is the new transformers live action film. For a start the picture on the box clearly shows the cartoon charachters and not the live action charachters. Second it is widely known that transformers will not be out on blu-ray for a very long time.
As for this disc, well as a huge transformers fan I got this and have to say the picture and sound are very good. I have seen better HD pictures but considering how old the film is I was impressed. Very dissapointed as none of the standard definition dvd extras are here but still worth a purchase.

Review for Dirty Harry [Blu-ray] [1971]:
They say first is always best and never has that been more true than here. Four progressively inferior sequels follow DIRTY HARRY, charting not only a decline in script quality but also in the general believability of a character who ends up being little more than a one-note lethal weapon rather than the no-bullsh*t maverick detective who, finding himself up against the SFPD's interminable bureaucracy, prefers to let his Magnum .44 do at least some of the talking. Okay, THE ENFORCER and MAGNUM FORCE just about hold their own but Clint's age is beginning to show by the time SUDDEN IMPACT appears and, frankly, the less said about THE DEAD POOL the better.
There's so much in this film that bears repeated viewings. It's certainly a brutal affair, and definitely non-pc, with director DON SIEGEL blurring the distinctions between cop and killer to the point where it's not always easy to tell one from the other by behaviour alone. But thanks to a brilliant turn by ANDY ROBINSON as the psychopathic villain, SCORPIO, it's somewhat less difficult to brush aside any misgivings about Harry Callahan's unorthodox methods. Not so much 'cake and and eat it' as knife and twist it.
Great support from RENI SANTINO assigned to be yet another of his initially indifferent colleague's 'unlucky' partners, CHICO, taking the bullets in the superbly choreographed bloodbath set in Golden Gate Park. Surviving the machine-gunning, he is clearly wiser after the event as to the type of lawman Callahan represents, re-affirming just what the 'Dirty' prefix means as a bottom line.
The fast-paced direction ensures that there's a very real sense of tension in the race to rescue a young girl (kidnapped and subsequently buried alive by Scorpio) and prevent her from dying by suffocation. The fact that Harry is frustrated in his attempts and ultimately fails - leading to the discovery of her pallid corpse - only increases his determination to sidestep the law-enforcement 'establishment' and go after Scorpio in the way he knows gets results, much to the dismay of media-courting and increasingly irritable Mayor (JOHN VERNON) and Callahan's own exasperated boss, Lieutenant Bressler (HARRY GUARDINO). A terrifically downbeat ending is a reminder that those who are supposed to protect and serve occasionally cross the line and that sometimes it simply has to be that way. Depends how lucky a person feels on the day, I suppose.
"...I know what you're thinkin', punk. You're thinkin', 'did he fire six shots or only five?' Now to tell you the truth, I've forgotten myself in all this excitement...but being this is a forty-four Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and will blow your head clean off...you've gotta ask yourself a question: 'do I feel lucky?' Well, do ya...PUNK?!!"
MOST POWERFUL SCENE(S): in the footbal ground under the floodlights as Harry steps on Scorpio's bullet wound to the leg; Scorpio's smashed-to-a-pulp face as he demands"every penny's worth..." of the beating he's arranged in order to frame his never-far-from-sight nemesis.
BLU-RAY PICTURE QUALITY: Superb, with a lot of detail not present on the regular DVD - you really get to know about a person's skin complexion via this format. There is still, however, a small amount of grain visible in the darker scenes, but that only adds to the gritty nature of the film as a whole and is not an issue.
BLU-RAY SOUND QUALITY: Excellent, bright and punchy in uncompressed 5.1. Brings to the fore composer LALO SCHIFRIN's cool and very 70's score.
A brilliant film, in it's best possible showcase. And Clint has never been more magnetic. Don't miss it.
VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

PAY DIRT
Thank God FRANK SINATRA turned down the role. There is no way this movie could ever have been the iconic classic it is today had ole' blue eyes reprised a variation on his Tony Rome persona, this time on the streets of San Francisco. Thank God CLINT EASTWOOD became 'DIRTY' HARRY CALLAHAN.They say first is always best and never has that been more true than here. Visually stunning
Quite superb in action and detail, the day when actors are not needed on screen is surely drawing closer judging by Beowolf. It is certainly gorey for a 12 rating, but the film gets better as it moves on.I am judging the film on itself rather than anything else.I do not go for total CGI generally but this was great, well worth buying.47

Review for The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford [Blu-ray] [2007]:
Powerfull film, a bit boring.
Picture is great, sound is great, actors are well within acceptence but the story is a bit long. Timeconsuming movies must have a strong story wich this movie has but not strong enough. The title gives the plot, and you sit the entire movie waiting for it to happen. When the plot is given to you before you open the movie it needs to get your attention fast and hold on to it while the climax awaits. I was i bit bored. But again; good actors, good casting (nick cave is a puzzle though) nice landscape-settings but story couldn`t hold my attention. Sorry. Good entertainment. Worth the money; yes.50

Review for Rush Hour 3 [Blu-ray] [2007]:
Having lived in France the French accents were appalling and the singing of the Stars and Stripes by the French taxi driver was so embarrassing...and I'm English...
And the girl interest, bizzare (but then, maybe she was meant to be...).
At the end, even my 12 year old rolled his eyes. Not as funny or as much action as the first two was the verdict. Hopefully they won't be in a Rush to make the fourth...

Review for Rush Hour 3 [Blu-ray] [2007]:
The Hour or so didn't Rush by
I'd previously briefly seen the opening credits with Chris Tucker as a traffic cop and there and then decided I wouldn't buy it, but my 12 year old son persuaded me to get it, and in Blu-ray. Well, I wasn't wrong. The movie just seemed to drag from the very first minute. All I really remember was Chris Tucker in his trademark high pitch voice, screaming his way through the very predictable 'witty' dialogue, with a body language seemingly waiting for the prompt from the director to deliver the line, as nothing was delivered with anything like the spontaneity of the first movie (and the second to a degree). Jackie Chan looked and moved like an old man, the movie being devoid of any real trademark Chan moves. He does have a certain similarity with current Chinese leaders in that their hair gets darker as they get older too...Having lived in France the French accents were appalling and the singing of the Stars and Stripes by the French taxi driver was so embarrassing...and I'm English...
And the girl interest, bizzare (but then, maybe she was meant to be...).

Review for Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At World's End [Blu-ray]:
The plot doesn't make sense, the sexy Keira Knightley is declared King, yes, King! and Jack Sparrow, the only character with any flare, plays second fiddle to the awful acting skills of Orlando Bloom.
I can't stress how bad this film is. I myself have bought the first two blu-rays but have refused to fund this third instalment which is an insult to our intelligence as an audience. And what was the point of Chow Yun Fat being in the film?! He is an awesome actor, but he was completely wasted and the film didn't need him. All we needed was a half decent ending, Captain Jack to make us laugh, and a completely different script.
Blu-Ray quality is excellent, but if you're looking to show off your high def gear, dont use this film, save your cash and show off Beowulf or Ratatouille which are landmark Blu-Ray HD films.
I really wish they had put an ounce of effort into this 3rd installment, I really don't feel any closure and it's such a shame how the franchise has missed out on what could have been a great all round trilogy.

In the same league as rocky 5. JUST!!
I loved the first two Pirate films and loved the cliffhanger at the end of Dead Man's Chest. Eagerly awaiting the grand finale which would have put this modern trilogy up with the likes of Indiana Jones and Back to the Future, I was amazed at how badly this film imploded into a load of rubbish. The plot doesn't make sense, the sexy Keira Knightley is declared King, yes, King! and Jack Sparrow, the only character with any flare, plays second fiddle to the awful acting skills of Orlando Bloom.

Review for Full Metal Jacket (Delux Edition) [Blu-ray] [1987]:
It's been remastered in to full 1080p which brings a great depth of colour and added realism to the film. Like with The Shining, it makes an old film look like a recent production. While you cant always see a difference between DVD & Blu Ray, this is a great film to show you just how much more vibrant it really does look. The improved sound also helps, you can now watch it on any decent surround sound system and not have to keep turning it up or down depending on the scene.
I'd highly recommend this version of the film. If you enjoyed it originally, this will definitely improve your viewing pleasure and it'll be a great addition to your ever growning Blu Ray collection!

Another good Blu Ray conversion....
This is, of course, a classic film and we all know the quality of casting and the cinematography however, you cant help but wonder how it's going to look when put on to Blu Ray. Turkey? Just in time for Christmas too!
With such an interesting premise as someone who can see a few seconds into the future (and let's be honest, who wouldn't want that!) its a shame that this film falls flat on its face. Nicolas Cage (an actor who I rate relatively highly) looks as though he's been forced into this movie and almost straight away you really don't care what happens to this character, which is a necessity for any action film (or any other for that matter). The action is good however and requires quite a bit of imagination by the viewer which is good, however you just get the sense that this film could have been better....and don't get me started on that dodgy toupee!?!56

Magnifico!!!
Totally agree with the other reviewer that this blu-ray transfer of this superlative movie is excellent. It has so been unfairly criticised by so-called movie experts which is totally unjustified. Beautiful colours, inky blacks, crisp sharp image with hardly a trace of grain or artifact. The 5.1 Dolby Digital soundtrack is also sublime with deep rumbling bass and lavish orchestration as befitting this gothic masterpiece. If you allow others with eyes that can't see, to sway you from buying this, it is your loss. Highly recommended in every way...57

Review for Blood Diamond [Blu-ray] [2006]:
Visual: Blood Diamond looks really, really good in HD. The landscape shots and action sequences are so crystal clear it makes you think you're a part of the action. I didn't expect the film to look as good as it does, and I recommend it highly. There is no visible grain, pictures are clear, sharp and the colours are well saturated. Definitely better than expected!
Audio: The uncompressed 5.1 surround is truly breathtaking! Sound is clear, deep and well equalised to deliver a near-cinema experience. There's no distortion, and the sound is well levelled throughout (so no theatrical sound needing you to turn it up and down constantly!)
Overall, I'm very happy with the way this turned out. It's a beautiful film that's written very well and looks incredible on blu-ray.

"Held" is the German word for"hero" whilst the German equivalent for"knight" would be"Ritter". Hope this helps...
