Tidy

Great again. The greater emphasis on Nessa and Smiffy in the second series is understandable (given the writers and the natural story-arc) and effective (given the quality of the product). I thoroughly enjoyed this comedy from the first episode of the first series. No weak points, no nastiness (except for the hilarious bickering couple), no wasted screen time.

And Uncle Bryn has inspired me to thank my sat-nav every time it gives me an instruction. What more do we need from a comedy series?

The model for DVDs of TV series

This final series of Seinfeld is produced in the same way as the previous eight series. Beside"Notes about nothing" on the episodes, there are the inside looks when members of the cast, the writers and producers explain some of the background to the episode. There are also deleted scenes, bloopers and some sein-imation. The other bonus features are a featurette on the final programme as well as a round-table discusion between the cast and Larry David. There is an easter egg on the fourth disk but this is just some seinimation.

The series may not have had the stand out episodes of earlier series, but its still great after all these years. The additional treatment in terms of the introduction to the episodes makes the DVD well worth buying - especially if your introduction to Seinfeld has been reruns.

comedy heaven

Never even considered watching this program before i was recommended it by the last person i would expect to watch it.Unbelievably funny. Every scene has been well thought out, and there seems to be humor in every sentence. Laughing out loud funny is the best discription i can give it. On the plus side, watching the dvd without adverts has got to make a big difference to your enjoyment, I challenge you to watch just one episode at once. I couldn`t!!!!

No longer quirky, just a bit annoying

If series one of Green Wing was a stand alone thing, it would be the pride of my DVD collection. I would think it was one of the best things since... well, sliced bread. But despite it being one of the most watched DVDs on my shelf, it is now tainted by its older brothers sat next to it. Series 2 tries very hard to recapture what made Series 1 so groundbreakingly fab; but it is so obvious that they are trying hard - the visual gags, fast forwards and fast editing style are all still there, the jokes are as thick and fast as before. Some scenes are so much funnier than any in the first series, but it doesn't work this time, there is a real feeling that it is contrived and forced. Some bits work better than others, what really switched me off was the constant ups and downs between Caroline and Mac - it was a lovely storyline, but will-they won't-they was fairly tired at the end of series 1.... no episode is complete without an absurd twist in their tale. This stopped being quirky to me and became attention seeking - it was as though a whole new creative group were trying to eminate the first series.

If you are desperate to buy a quirky, fast, hilarious comedy and loved series 1 of Green Wing, buy Spaced, Darkplace or the Boosh before this!!

Usual Family Guy humour - and that's not a bad thing

Family Guy are once again on the mark with this hilarious episode, funny affectionate spoof of Star Wars: A New Hope.

Some really memorable gags such as the Tie fighter scene and Stewie as Darth Vader, really can't be missed if you are fan of Star Wars and Family Guy or either of the two.

I suggest if you like this you should check out Robot Chicken's Star Wars special, as named dropped by Chris Griffin himself.

Running out of steam

With season 10 it seemed that the once perfect combination of writing talent & acting skills had finally been unbalanced beyond repair. Far too many of the peripheral characters were given prominent roles when quite frankly they weren't needed & in what seems like a desperate attempt to paper over the gaps guest stars pop up all over the place.
Too often a miniscule story line was stretched over a whole show,'Roe to perdition' has Frasier & Niles in with the Russian mafia while buying caviar, 'ring cycle' has Daphne & Niles marry several times to keep everybody happy & 'Lilith needs a favour' has Frasier spend a whole episode umming & ahhing over whether he should agree to be a sperm donor for his ex-wife. All wafer thin ideas stretched to the point of boredom.
For the first time Frasier is shown as being a completely unsympathetic character. In 'enemy at the gate' he harasses a car park attendant because he doesn't want to pay an extra 2 dollars. While in 'some assistance required' he becomes obsessed with a family in need who have a house built for them by the staff at KACL. In both these episodes he is portrayed as a very unpleasant & unlikeable person, surely a fatal idea for the title character!
However this is still Frasier so there are some funny episodes, 'Door jam' see's the hopeless brothers jealousy lead them to disaster in an upmarket spa where there always seems to be a level of snobbery just beyond their reach. 'Trophy girlfriend' has Frasier dating a sports teacher who reminds him of his old coach, played by a cigar chomping Bob Hoskins. The scene where frasier see's her as hoskins while in the bath being sponged & read poetry to is hilarious. Best of all is surely 'Daphne does dinner' where Niles & Daphne dare to break away & do there own dinner party without Frasier only to discover that they are as useless as him.
This season seemed to indicate that Frasier was going to go out with a whimper. With just 1 more series left to go it seemed fans would have to plunder the earlier shows to recapture what was easily the funniest show on TV. However miraculously series 11 would turn out to be one of the strongest & the disappointment of the previous 2 or 3 seasons could be put to one side.
If you are a fan then you will not be put off by a negative review. Quite right too! This season may have been the weakest but it still had enough to keep you watching. If you're new to Frasier & want to know why it was so popular then this is not the place to look. Although I would recommend starting at season 1 any of the first 4 seasons are as strong as any other ever seen on TV.

"I Don't Believe It

One Foot In The Grave is truly excellent entertainment. It is so much better than American Comedy where brainpower is limited to"one liners". If a joke goes on more than five seconds they don't get it as they have already forgotten the build up.

Where this differes is that it can take 20 minutes building up the joke throughout the show (with smaller jokes as you go) to the big laugh. I find that much more satisfying.

So why have I not bought it?

WARNING!
I have head from other online reviews that there is problems with this boxset. There apparantely is some episodes with no theme music and some episodes has the voices out of time with the pictures giving distorted picture and sound and ruining enjoyment. How did this happen? Why is it not re-released? I notice the price has come crasing down over the last two months. I just hope it is released again properly and then I can't wait to buy it.

Anyone else out there bought it and can confirm these problems or know if it will be released properly again? I know some other DVDs have been re-released when problems have been discovered.

5 stars the show. 2 stars the boxset.

Very funny

This was a lot better than i thought it would be. It's very funny and has a good storyline. Well acted and well written, thumbs up.

"That crack is really moreish"

Best show on television. Easily surpasses any mediocre sitcoms or comedy shows of the past decade.

You will wonder what all the fuss was about with The Office, The Mighty Boosh, etc.

Roll on the sixth series.

Not funny

Didn't make me laugh once. It was just full of smart arse jokes which don't make me laugh. I guess I like to be reeled in with a bit of emotion before the punch lines. I just didn't feel any of the characters were likable. I don't think anyone can beat Spaced or Black Books - although I only really watched Black Books for Bill Bailey. It was described as surreal and its just not surreal if its ALL surreal ALL the time. It has to be surprising, strangeness in moments you least expect. Spaced had this down to a t. Oh well.

Total crap

This entire movie is basically about 3 underage boys trying to buy booze for a party, and about how the fat one wants to get laid.
It sucks.
And it's not funny.
I didn't laugh once.

How is a bloke getting"period juice" on his trouser leg funny? that was supposedly meant to be one of the highlights of the film.

Don't buy it. Its not worth it. I torrented it. And i already wish i hadn't even though i got it for free.

A classic!

If you've not seen Pretty Woman - where have you been?! I absolutely love this film! I watch it all the time - I often just put it on in the background because I know it off by heart anyway!

This is definitely a chick flick, but my goodness it's a fabulous one! Every woman who watches this wants to be Julia Roberts, just so that she can be swept off her feet by the marvelously rich, sophisticated, and romantic Richard Gere! Both actors play their roles superbly in this movie, and the soundtrack really sets it off too. If you've never seen this, or if you love this movie but don't own it yet - buy it! You won't regret it :-)

Very enjoyable family film..................

I have to agree somewhat to some of the other comments that it wasn't as good as both Shrek 1 or 2, but nevertheless, it is still a most enjoyable family film and not worthy of 1 star as others have given. It still caters for both children and adults and I'll look forward to seeing Shrek 4 when it's due to be released in 2010.

Not My Fave Series So Far

It's not as funny as the previous series, most of the time i can't really put my finger on whats wrong but i didn't laugh as much and a lot of the plots didn't really connect. The commentarys which are usually such a delight were mainly the people who don't normally talk (they were done during the writers strike) and you can tell. There are a huge amount of deleted scenes though and the ComicCon table read is joy to watch. Seth McFarlanes face when he's doing characters and the reaction to Francine/Wendy Schaals vibrator just kills me.

This is the only medical drama I've watched that actually makes me want to be a doctor!
Brilliant characters, plot lines and genuinely hilarious moments!
It contains everything a good Tv show should have.

Too Funny to Pass Up

This has to be one of the funniest films I have ever seen. From its very first line through to the outrageous finish. Though the main story revolves around the (hopefully) dignified send off of the family patriarch, the many competing story lines result in an uproarious and completely unpredictable romp. The wrong body; a lost and found Valium bottle that isn't; a small man with a big secret; an irritable old man with an equally irritable bowel; a body in the library; and a naked man on the roof among other things... Perfectly cast with stellar performances all around and an unrelenting near rabid pace, it builds until you don't think things can get any crazier ...and yet somehow they do. Even funnier is the Gag Reel that makes one wonder how they made this movie at all with all of the hysterical outtakes. Director Frank Oz and all of this incredible cast (which includes Jane Asher, Matthew Macfadyen & real life wife Keely Hawes, Daisy Donovan, Alan Tudyk, Kris Marshall, Peter Dinklage, Andy Nyman, Rupert Graves, Peter Egan, et al) are to be highly commended for creating something so incredibly hysterical out of something so seemingly innocuous and unfunny as a funeral. I laughed so hard my abdominal muscles actually hurt the next day! Buy it, like Young Frankenstein, it gets funnier each time you watch it. Then listen to the director's voice over especially at the part where the infamous"pictures" appear, it explains a whole lot about Matthew and Rupert's"acting" when they see them....Enjoy!

Girls Gone Wild!

This is an excellent value box set of all four 'St Trinian's' films. They are dated now, of course, but there are laughs aplenty. The first one is probably the best (the first three are in black & white and the last one (fairly weak) is in colour. These films are a British institution and, for this price, very good value.

What A treat to finaly be able to watch the 2nd series of im alan partridge.
meant to buy it when i was last home in the UK in january 08 but just didnt have the lolly.
I enjoyed the 1st series and have watched it and rewatched it many times and must say that these two series are much better than knowing me knowing you the first series of partridge.
Good to see michael still in the series graduating from the motel to the petrol garage.
Lynn was a major doormat as usual and Alan was again offending most of the population which is what he does LOL and battling with the great dave clifton.
It would have been great to see Alan hosting his military based cable tv show though and would have thought that would have opened the door for more hillarious partridge antics.
Alans book was funny though but like i said it would have been more of a plus to learn and laugh at his cable tv career or is coogan keeping that one in his back pocket for later on ?.
Well all i have to say is ( DAN,,DAN,,DAN,,,,DAN,,,,,,,,,,DANNNN..!)
Anyway great series and great delvery from my mates at Amazon uk for delivering to this gratefull Ex pat.
