Damnit Chloe!

I bought this DVD purely to fill out my collection, and while it isn't the best season of 24 released, it is still better than average. The plot is a bit over-the-top with far too many crises going on compared to the other seasons. However, the action is superb, Chloe isn't (as) annoying, and the ending is awesome and unexpected (unless you happen to have seen the other seasons. If you're a fan of 24, buy this, if not...better start with season 1!

Super nova amongst films

Forget the tacky Hollywood remakes, they simply cannot capture the magic of a film like this. The cast list reads like"Who's Who". James Fox shines as the perfect assassin, and Michael Lonsdale is wonderful as the senior detective who is relentless in his pursuit. The remainder of the cast are spectacular and are the cream of the acting profession.
Knowing that our hit-man will not acually succeed, does not dampen our enjoyment.
This is a film one does not tire of.
Brilliant.

HAD ME IN A SPIN

Great special effects carry a fairly bland storyline, but very watchable film.

A team of researchers aim to plant a device in the path of a twister to monitor what makes them form and how they move, the idea being to provide the public more advance warning of their arrival. Needless to say this is quite a dangerous operation, and the twisters move fairly randomnly. Two teams compete to get the data and risks are taken for one team, with devestating results.

Great scenes where cows, farm equipment and a full size petrol tanker are flying around the screen.

Great disaster film.

stunning movie thats been unfairly overlooked.the acting is excellent and its never boring this is a must watch and in my opinion one of the top ten best of last year

An excellent, funny, disturbing movie

I put Fargo up there with the best. The Coens are young and productive, so it will be interesting to see what they come up with in their careers. They'll have a hard time topping Fargo. Some things I like about it...
--The way they mix violence with humor (not just gross-out easy laughs). Buscemi's reaction to Stormare shooting the cop is funny in a twisted way... but Stormare going after the young couple immediately after is scary and unsettling. This one scene sets the tone of the whole movie.
--Buscemi's reaction to Presnell's refusal to deal is funny...but Buscemi's reaction to being shot is also funny, and is also scary.
--Marge Gunderson feeling nauseated when she sees the mess at the crime scene...and it's just morning sickness. This brief moment really establishes her character.
--Marge Gunderson's relationship with her husband is really endearing, and is a thread that runs throughout the movie. It gives the movie a lot more humanity that most Coen films have.
--And Bill Macy; his character is so earnest and so out of his depth.
Fargo is a movie that stands up to repeated watching.
The DVD transfer is first-rate

DONE 1 & 2 BRING ON NUMBER THREE!!!

Im a little behind in the 24 series so there's no point reviewing it really everybody knows by now this is quality TV. I would like to say I enjoyed the first but this went up a notch totally brillant I loved it just ordered series 3 bring it on can't wait.

A bit something and nothing!

I can't say that I hated or loved this film just something in between.

The storyline in itself is actually quite gripping and there are some clever aspects which make you think. All in all when it came to the end though I thought it was a bit disappointing. It seemed to lack the spark of a well executed production.

If you can cope with the fact that it's very disjointed by starting at the end and then jumping to the beginning continuously (You'll see what I mean if you hire it), and you have a couple of hours to kill, then by all means hire it. I wouldn't expect a masterpiece however!

One of my favourite movies ever

'The Departed' stars Jack Nicholson as Francis"Frank" Costello, an Irish mob boss in Boston. The police are trying to build a case up against him and plant an undercover cop, William Costigan Jr (Leonardo DiCaprio) into his team to give them tip-offs on his actions and whereabouts. Frank has also got an informant in the police named Colin Sullivan (Matt Damon), who gives them tips on what the police are up to and diverts their actions from catching Frank. When both sides of the law realize the situation, Costigan and Sullivan attempt to discover the other's true identity before being found out themselves.

This is without a doubt one of my favorite films of all time. Scorsese is one of the best directors ever with such classics as Goodfellas, Casino, Gangs of New York, Cape Fear, Raging Bull and Taxi Driver (I could go on) but The Departed is definitely the best he has ever directed. The story is so tight and extremely tense with some real edge-of-your-seat moments, especially when each side realises there is a rat on the teams. It's also very fast paced and for a two and a half hour film it doesn't get slow or boring for a second as there are just so many great characters and so much going on.

There's also so many top actors in this film as well with the likes of Jack Nicholson, Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Mark Wahlberg, Martin Sheen, Alec Baldwin, Ray Wintston and Anthony Anderson all of which give possibly their best performances of their careers.

The Blu Ray quality is one of the best I've ever seen and highly recommend paying the bit extra to watch it in HD as it looks so much better than on the upscaled DVD version.

Overall this is one of the best films ever and would definitely be in my top 10 films of all time. It's the kind of film I could watch and then at the end watch it again as it is just so good. This is one film that is at the highest standard for everything - story, acting, direction, sound, picture and is just an absolute 10/10 masterpiece.

Wow

I only recently watched this film, but it is definatly the best film I have ever ever watched. It has a really good storyline with an amazing ending that I deffinatly wasn't expecting! Buy this film!

It just gets better

I did not see how this series could continue without Carol and I was prepared to be thoroughly disapointed.How wrong can you be? I had never heard of Simone Lahbib on this side of the pond and I had no inkling of how good an actor she is.Her character is very different to Carol but offers the potential of an interesting relationship with Tony.The thing I like about the Tony character as portrayed by Robson Greene is that it manages to retain an essential aura of"worldlessness" in spite of all the horror which surrounds it. The themes continue to be totally absorbing and always varied. I found the episode"Torment" to be particularly intriguing, it showed Tony at his intuitive best. One thing puzzles me, why have they made Alex so" frumpy", her clothes are dreadful,those shapeless wooly sweaters do nothing to flatter her less-than-svelt figure and the quilted jacket that she wears makes her look rather like a sack of wool tied with string. She is a very attractive woman, why try to disguise it? I should add that since watching this series ,I have been led to"Bad Girls", which has only had limited exposure over here and, my opinion of Simone's acting has increased exponentially.The real problem with this series is it's addictive quality, when are they going to bring series 5 to DVD?

"High Def exclusive!"

'The Kingdom' is a gripping thriller that will certainly pick up new fans that missed its theatrical run. This HD DVD edition features a sharp and faithful transfer, a decent but disappointing Dolby Digital Plus audio mix, and an impressive array of standard and exclusive supplemental features. While this release doesn't get everything perfect, it is another impressive offering from Universal that will satisfy anyone who enjoyed the film.

one of the best 70's films

Jack Nicholson (One flew over the cuckoo's nest) stars alongside Faye Dunaway (Bonnie and Clyde) in Roman Polanski's (The Pianist) compelling crime drama Chinatown where Jake Gittes is hired to investigate an affair, which ultimately leads into a political and deadly investigation surrounding the town's water supply.

With a gritty opening and a fascinating and dramatic climax, Chinatown has established itself as one of the best written crime dramas of the 70's and deserved Oscar winner for best writing original screenplay with excellent dialogue, no cheesy clichés or anything like that, a true realistic approach to the crime world, which is helped along by an excellent cast and brilliant direction.

One of my favourite Nicholson performances, he plays central protagonist detective Jake Gittes, a professional with an edge, a real cutting attitude to seek out what he wants.

Faye Dunaway is equally as impressive as Mrs Mulwray and these two characters with strong personalities and agendas create tense and engaging situations, justifying the genre beautifully.

It is one of the best directed films I have ever seen, perhaps only behind a couple which include The Good the bad and the ugly among others.
The settings are effective along with the situations and the lighting.

Costume design and general cinematography are all effectively established to give the film the emotion and sophistication it needed.

Though I got lost at a couple of turns with the plot, there is still no question that the dialogue and the timing of the situations deserve its praise. Had it not been for the brilliant Godfather II then this film noir classic would surely have scooped a few more Oscars.

Brilliant

Gentle BBC period drama at its best. The acting quality is fabulous, and the plot lines, which by today's standards can hardly be called fast moving, manage to involve the viewer and retain your attention throughout.
A must buy for period drama/who dunnit fans and at the current Amazon price this series is a bargain.

Sorry... I hated the ending!

No Spoilers.

From the moment I saw the first episode of series 1, I've loved Alias more than almost any other TV series. Over the various seasons, at times it flagged slightly, but always picked up the pace again. It really pains me to write a 2-star review of Alias.

But... Sorry, but am I the only person who thinks that something went drastically wrong with the final season? Did the writer have to cram about 6 episodes worth of story into one final episode, so he would be free to move on to his cinema work? Because that's how it felt to me.

You know how at the start of episodes you get a little 'Previously on Alias...', followed by a breakneck preview of the previous episode or two? Well, to me the whole final episode felt like one of those.

I really wish I knew what had been happening behind the scenes, because I can only assume that something went badly wrong somewhere. After being loyal to the series for 5 seasons, viewers really deserved something better than this over-hasty, shove-it-all-into-one-episode conclusion. Overall, it left a slightly bad taste, and (in my humble opinion) was nothing less than an insult to the fans.

Loved it!!

I have to say I was a bit worried about this film. I'm not sure why I was?! Sean Bean is absolutely amazing (as usual) as the bad guy (no change there!). He is an awful, violent killer, but I still didn't want anything bad to happen to him!!

This is a great, violent look into drug crime and revenge.

King at his best. A truly heart wrenching tale of a lost soul cursed with an ability to absorb the ills of people at his own expense?
What lets it down is the lack of jaw dropping surprise at what Coffey reveals . Wetmore is the sadistic guard that must inhabit all institutions where power corrupts.
Delacroix's end is illuminatingly spectacular!!! Amazing and poignant, the whole film jerks the heart!
