Review for Pete's Dragon [1977]:
Disney puts its money where its mouth is
I love dragons! I think they're great, and I think it's all probably because of this fun-filled Disney movie. Now I'm not normally one to sing the praises of Disney films but this time I have to tip my cap to them. Why? Well, this film does exactly what it says on the box. It's about this boy called Pete who has an invisible dragon for a friend. Wonderful!

Okay, so the dragon is invisible, but we do get to see him from time to time and he's quite a funny fellow too! But, there are a lot of other films out there who love to insinuate that there'll be a dragon somewhere in the movie; Red Dragon, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Enter the Dragon, The Last Dragon and the list goes on. But guess what? No dragons!

Review for La Fille Mal Gardée, [2005]:
Pure Magic
One of the all time great performances of 'La Fille' - thankfully captured on film for us all to savour forever.
A perfect partnership for this ballet where both dancers share perfect chemistry. Carlos Acosta already an international ballet star is in perfect form - his sense of timing and comedy blends well with the complex Aston style. The beautiful, cheeky and sunny Marinella Nunez shines gloriously as Lise - a role she was born to play. Make no mistake, Argentine born Nunez is one of the finest dancers of her generation. Covent Garden and the british ballet world has already fallen head over heals in love with this lovely lady - apart from her obvious elegance and talent she also possesses the likeability factor - her genuine warmth makes people smile.
Special credit should also be made to the genious who is Will Tuckett for his comic Widow Simone - he makes this larger than life character his own with histerical precision.
So if you are ever down and want chearing up - then put on the dvd - it will always do the trick and get you smiling. Somehow the world feels better! The Royal Ballet at their very finest - pure magic!

New Price: £3.97

Review for Gypsy [1962]:
Great Film, but DVD quality not as great!
Don't get me wrong, the film is excellent, but the DVD quality is not very good! They must have used an old print as the colour is sometimes faded, the sound patchy and you see the usual old marks and scratches you get in old film. I wish that the makers would clean it up and THEN it would be perfect!

Review for The King And I: 2-disc (Special Edition) [1956]:
Something Wonderful!
I completely agree with W.Neale, and couldn't really have summed it up better.
However,am I wrong in thinking that the song"Shall I tell you what I think of you",where Anna vents her feelings about the King has been dropped from the DVD?
It is on the CD of the film soundtrack, but maybe like so many other things it just never made it into the film?
Any help would be appreciated.

Review for Saturday Night Fever (30th Anniversary 2 Disc Special Edition) [1977]:
Not even worth 1 star! Truly awful!!
This has to be one of the worst films I've ever seen!!! It hardly has a plot. I know it's and 18 but seriously, half of the violence, swearing and stuff didn't do anything for the story. And they're making a musical about it, I believe. How can you put this tosh as a musical? Apart from the dancing, (which was the only good bit) it was absolutely terrible. It's not worth buying, renting or watching on TV when it comes on.

Pink Floyd - The Wall (Limited Edition) [1982]

Our Price: £13.99
New Price: £9.05

Review for Pink Floyd - The Wall (Limited Edition) [1982]:
Relativly enjoyable
I'm a big Pink Floyd Fan and have most of their albums. I bought the albumn (the Wall) in 1980 on record. I have seen the movie several times and found it enjoyble though a little bit dark and strange. Many people complain about the songs like Bring the Boys Back Home and Happiest Days of Our Lives but they are essential to the story in both the movie and the album. The biggest disappointmennt for me was the great song Hey You was not inluded in the movie. The animations were dark yet very essential. The trial was a decent scene. Bob Gedolf does a good job portrying Pink (the main character) throughout the Story.

Michael Jackson - Moonwalker [1988]

Our Price: £4.98
Used Price: £4.95
New Price: £4.98

Review for Michael Jackson - Moonwalker [1988]:
For fans only
I remember seeing Moonwalker way back when I was a boy. I remember getting right into by the world-beating videos, laughing at the Speed Demon claymation sequence and marvelling at the special-effects-heavy Smooth Criminal short film with Joe Pesci as the villain. Recently, I rented the DVD to see if I could relive the magic a bit.

Nowadays, with Michael's reputation tarnished, his face unrecognisable and his fame mostly overlooked, I wonder what the fuss was about. Even excepting of the elements that appear dodgy with the benefit of hindsight (the boy from the"Bad" sequence passing through a cloud of smoke and emerging as adult Michael, for instance), the whole film is pretty much a showcase for his work and not much more. Even the Smooth Criminal film is not all that.

If you remember all that was great about Michael and were more of a fan than me, you should get it. You might even get a bit of a kick out of the magical Smooth Criminal showdown if you loved Transformers. Otherwise, you'll probably just get a little bored and even disconcerted in spite of all the glitz.

Xanadu [1980]

Our Price: £4.98
Used Price: £2.50
New Price: £2.85

Review for Xanadu [1980]:
Not a flop anymore
Xanadu is now regarded not as a flop but as a phenomeanon.
Since it's disasterous release in 1980, Xanadu has actually surpassed a high percentage of mainstream movies. But, while the film flopped, the soundtrack that accompanied the movie, With a high calibre of artistes such as Olivia Newton-John, ELO, Cliff Richard and Gene Kelly, soared to the top of the charts upon release. While"Drumdreams" and"Fool country" do not appear on the album, there seem to be enough tracks that vary from the 1940's Andrews Sisters-esque big band sound to ELO's electro-pop. Although a slightly short album, you are sure to be kicking those shoes off and dancing around you handbag.
And now with the Broadway musical being such a success, has taken Xanadu to uber-cult status. So, Whatever your conclusion, Xanadu seems to be heading for world domination.

Review for Katherine Jenkins - Katherine In The Park [2007]:
"A pleasure to watch and listen"
I agree with the two previous reviews. Katherine is a class apart from anything"Singing Wales" can offer, has a good sense of humor and is a pleasing personality. The first DVD"Live at Llangollen" was a joy to watch."Katherine in the Park" is even more enjoyable as well are the extras. Having lived in North Wales, does not mean I am Welsh, neither I wished I was Welsh, but I like the country and the people. Do I have to say more......

Review for Our House - A Musical Love Story - The Madness Musical:
Great music - clever plot
We were lucky enough to see this musical in London, and Suggs was taking the part of the Father. My son, the real Madness fan, was amazed when Suggs came onto the stage.

Very clever that the songs just seemed to fit the story exactly, and lovely that a musical can be so British!

brilliant!
This DVD is brilliant!

the never ending changing of toys, characters, children, babies, lights on the screen keep my 10 month old son mesmorised! He loves dogs and squeels himself silly when he sees the dog puppet on the screen!

great for bunging on the TV when you want an extra 20 mins in bed, and is hopefully doing his brain a bit more good than the songs on the tweenies!

42nd Street [1933]

Our Price: £4.98
Used Price: £4.25
New Price: £4.98

Review for 42nd Street [1933]:
The Greatest Musical Ever Made?
Made in 1932 and released during 1933, this superb musical began an unfortunate trend in musicals which persisted during the 1930s. A spate of copycat musicals were then released, most of them rubbish. Not one of them came up to the standard set by Busby Berkeley in this classic which is now recognised as one of the all time great musicals. The story is simple enough, a new show is commissioned, Julian Marsh (Warner Baxter) struggles to rehearse the show and to get the balance right for its opening night. Some of the scenes are quite simply hiliarious, and some quite daring for its time too especially with the skimpy costumes on show. This was before the Hays Commission imposed strict censorship and almost ruined Hollywood. Just before the opening night, the leading lady Bebe Daniels is injured so a newcomer Peggy Sawyer (Ruby Keeler)is drafted in as a last minute replacement and saves the show. Of course, the show is an astounding success. A great story with great songs and music. There are many fine actors who appear in this film, most of them legends in their own right such as Ginger Rogers, Una Merkel, Dick Powell, George Brent and Guy Kibbee. Busby Berkeley must also be mentioned for his direction and his work on the cameras which caused a sensation at the time, using different angles and other techniques which were quite revolutionary for those days.

Picture quality for such an old film, is very good indeed. Sound adequate on a Home Cinema system. Enhanced with subtitles and some short documentaries for Home Movie buffs.

Gigi [1958]

Our Price: £4.98
Used Price: £2.34
New Price: £2.80

Review for Gigi [1958]:
Undiluted pleasure
Whilst I really shouldn't give this a five star rating, every time I tried to reduce it I found I couldn't. Having just watched the film, I'm still too full of the pleasure of watching something so riotously happy. The reason I shouldn't give it 5 stars is because of the quality of the DVD itself. It looks more like video than DVD, with some quite serious scratch/flicker, particularly at the beginning and during one number.
With the impossibly handsome Louis Jourdan, Leslie Caron doing her sweet little girl act, and the incomparable Maurice Chevalier (try watching Lumiere in Beauty and the Beast and I think you might see where that came from!), the cast couldn't be better. The LernerLoewe songs are all hum a long, the script witty and the costumes wonderful, making the whole film very easy on the eye.
Not surprising then that the film won 9 Oscars, including best picture, director, cinematography, costume design, and song.
Worth forking out for provided you don't mind the DVD quality issues. Personally, don't regret it in the least
