Review for 9.2" Xoro HSD7510 Multiregion Portable DVD Player & Digital Freeview TV:
Disappointed ! Xoro Multiregion Portable DVD Player & Digital Freeview TV
I got this product from Germany via Amazon Marketplace, I really liked the design of this Xoro 9.2" Multiregion Portable DVD Player & Digital Freeview TV and even without the battery it looks great as a tablet PC type of design but getting Freeview was one big headache I can't belive how hard it is to watch television. I tried lots of different aerials to get a good reception but all I got was a few TV channels and a few radio stations. The only good thing left is the DVD player it play all my DVD's even the DVD disks that I brought from the USA. I am left feeling disappointed with Xoro 9.2" Multiregion Portable DVD Player & Digital Freeview TV product. My advice to anyone who wants a Multiregion Portable DVD Player & Digital Freeview TV is to go for products from Shinco - Shinco Multiregion Portable DVD Player with TV Tuner support from Amazon I also got one of these products and trust me it works the moment you get it out of the box !!!24

Review for Philips PET821/05 Portable DVD Player:
All the relevant leads are included so you can attach it to a tv if you want and maintain a good picture. The remote control is an appropriate credit card size. I would have given 5 stars except for two minor points. The first is the sound which could have been given a bit more oomph, although with earphones this is not an issue. The second is that the loudness of the disc motor can be a little on the loud side, but as before when wearing earphones you do not notice this.
So all in all I believe this to be a quality peice of kit from a major brand name at a reasonable price. (I purchased mine from the marketplace) I would definitely recommend this model if you are not looking for anything too fancy but something you can rely on to do exactly what it promises.

Review for Philips PET821/05 Portable DVD Player:
Does everything it says on the box!
I was looking for a portable dvd player that could play all the current formats (-r, +r, divx, multi region etc)and after a ton of time researching I came up with this model. It has a nice sleek look to it and feels very light in the hand. I have tried most of the formats on it and they all worked perfectly. The bonus of this model is the extra sized screen which does make a lot of difference, I could have bought a 7" model for the same money. The picture quality is excellent with no visible light spots and it plays even copies beautifully. All the relevant leads are included so you can attach it to a tv if you want and maintain a good picture. Review for Optronix 7" Widescreen Portable DVD Player, Multiregion with DIVX Support.:
The other rather uncomfortable thing about this player is that it can only be turned off by using a switch on the side of the player. It is not possible to do it using the remote. Quite unhandy if one wants to watch a movie and then e.g. go to sleep without having to get up to switch off the device.

Broke after 1 week
Player was working fine for only 7 days. Then refused to read ANY dvd or cd put into it (even though for the previous few days it had played them no problem). I sent it back and was given a refund. The other rather uncomfortable thing about this player is that it can only be turned off by using a switch on the side of the player. Review for Orbit Portable DVD Player with TV, Freeview, USB, and Game (300+ Games):
The unit was dispatched very quickly from `Allcam World of Portables' although their chosen courier (Citylink) is quite simply appalling. They delivered it to someone half way up the road & never even attempted to deliver it here. After calling City Link many times, we managed to locate & recover the parcel!
The box for the DVD player/TV doesn't give any indication that this unit has Freeview & quotes Model No. PTDVD-768. Having bought this unit as a present, I didn't want to remove the outer cellophane from the box or, break the seal to check. I e-mailed Allcam & they were adamant that the unit did have Freeview. A visit to the Orbit Website underlined my concerns when I discovered that there are two version of this unit - one with Freeview (Model PTDVD-768DVB) & one without (Model PTDVD-768) No fear though, Christmas day, my son opened his present and ..... the unit does indeed have Freeview. Allcam said that they regularly get calls about this & claim that the box doesn't use the word `Freeview' because it's a tradename!?! .... yet the box for my son's unit doesn't even say `DVB' or quote the correct model number!
The instructions for the unit are a bit cheesy & written in pseudo English/Chinese! When first tested with a DVD, the unit made an applauding noise & wouldn't read a DVDs. Upon close inspection, I discovered that the DVD has a very thin plastic (transport?) shield over the lens & this needs to be removed before use (.... of course, the instructions were absolutely no help here!) Once we got over that hurdle, the unit worked like a dream. The DVD motor drive is slightly noisy but otherwise ok. Picture quality is excellent.
The rechargeable battery unit (which is external & looks more like a docking unit) also provides a portable telescopic aerial. For Freeview reception this isn't much use .... unless you're sat on top of the TV transmitter! A 12V car adapter is also supplied.
To set up the DVB & Analogue TV channels, we plugged the unit into a good (external) aerial. Again, this all worked ok apart from the DVB which seems to place the channels in a `non-standard' order. Although there is a channel sort facility, none of the options put the channels in the correct order (as per a `normal' Freeview box). There is a facility to manually sort the channels, but accidentally invoke the auto setting & all your hard work can be undone in a flash!
According to the manual, the unit is supposed to be supplied with a car antenna but this wasn't in the box.
Although you can control virtually everything via the remote control, for some odd reason there's no remote control of the volume!! This is controlled via a very basic volume control on the side of the unit.
The unit also comes with a Games controller & a disc full of games - which my son loves.
In all, this is an excellent unit & very good value for money.
Plus points ......
1). Excellent Picture quality on DVD & Freeview
2). Value for money
3). Packed FULL of features
4). Dual headphone sockets (so 2 people with headphones can watch at same time)
Bad points
1). Poor Instructions
2). Battery pack makes unit a bit cumbersome
3). No volume control via the remote.

Review for Toshiba SD-P1700 Portable DVD Player with 7" Display:
Picture quality is excellent. Sound on speakers is of good enough quality and plenty loud enough for me. Recommended at price paid (£111).

This player is small and neatly designed in my view. The construction feels solid and has a battery that fits to the underside and has the same footprint. This makes a good engineering job as opposed to battery 'appendages' as supplied for some other players. The screen control is good, automatically following the format in which recordings are made but more importantly, allowing manual adjustment to 4:3 for those 'old film collections'! The battery life is very good and typically has lasted 4hrs plus when using headphones. It has played everything I've tried including JPEG photos and audio cds as well as dvds recorded on my Panasonic recorder. Nice package including carrying case. Although supplied by pixmania the manual is in English and the plug/lead supplied is a uk standard one ( together with a continental lead as well).Picture quality is excellent. Sound on speakers is of good enough quality and plenty loud enough for me. Recommended at price paid (£111).

review of player and ancilleries
aspects of this package are very good, however this is coupled with some very poor parts.DVD playback - the playback is good, relatively smooth and quiet. it plays well and even managed a scratched dvd my older player struggles with. it does play region 1 and 2 and dvdr's.
Tv reciever - the analogue one is basic and as you would expect. the digital part is quite good, picks up the channels you would expect and managed to locate a few my upstairs set top box couldnt. very pleased with this part though it has to be said the travel aerial is useless and you need to invest in a powered aerial to have some hope of finding channels. I have not tried it in a car but i doubt this would make a difference
Games - the games are basically a selection of old NES (first gen nintendo system) games. Whilst im not planning on replacing my 360 for it it is fun to see the old mario games and similar. i havent had chance to play them all but have no doubt there are easily 300 games. the downside is the controller, it is the cheapest bit of kit i have seen in ages. it broke nearly instantly and id predict any replacement would also break as they are so badly made. im hoping my 360 controller will work (as they are both usb interfaces)
screen - the screen is as it looks and gives a good picture from most angles, the colour is a little poor specifically red/yellow aspects. the adjustments do little to affect this colour and people tend to have a strong yellow/red look. This does let the unit down compared to similar models.
Sound - speakers are fine and produce a loud enough output. they are no worse than other systems i have seen and the earphones are a preffered was of listening to the player.
Other - i havent used any of the card/usb readers so cant comment on how they work, the remote is also ok though not laid out in the most logical manner. the battery is externally mounted and as yet havent used it so cant comment on its life.
build quality - the overall feel of the items are clunky but sturdy. apart from the cheap (and i cant stress that enough) games controller it feels ike it would work.
overall - i only rate this a 3 as the bits that i was interest in (dvd and tv aspect) work well (even through the screen is a little poor). other aspects were a bonus. if you are after a portable system that does everything that is below standard price then this system does the job.
