Review for 1984:
A grown up version with grown up actors
This is a no nonsense version of the novel, very stark and designed to leave you in no doubt about what life would be like in such a state. The atmosphere is one of harshness, oppression and fear. The last movie with Burton starring and his natural authority and gravitas fits the role perfectly.83
Review for Matrix Trilogy 3-Disc Set: The Matrix, Matrix Reloaded and Matrix Revolutions [1999]:
The central premise that our lives are not 'real' but are steeped in illusion in order that our life force may be fed upon whilst we are enfenced unwittingly like cattle - this is a relevant and powerful message on many levels. It can easily be seen that this is true on a superficial level, with the rampant rise of ultra-aggressive capitalist consumerism, whereby everyone is 'sold a dream' in order to siphon off all income to profit the few, but it goes deeper than that, and can be used to catch a glimpse of some ideas on the true nature of reality. The overlap with material such as Castaneda is remarkable, with stories about the archetypal predator who is invisible, and feeds on us because he has 'given us his mind'. In all, it is a striking metaphor for the human condition.
Of course the great thing is that, even if you don't want to explore things to those levels, taken at surface value as a piece of entertainment, the Matrix is still a fantastic sci-fi/action trilogy, with colourful characters, awesome visuals, and a solid original plotline. Taken as a trilogy, this is a fantastic piece of film-making artwork, and this is the best way to enjoy it. For me, like the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, this amazing piece of entertainment should be enjoyed whole, with the complete epic story all in one package.
The only think letting this edition down (hence the 3 stars instead of 5) is that for LESS than the price of this 3-disc set, you can now buy from Amazon the full 10-disc 'Ultimate Matrix' box set with all the other extras and featurettes, so I would recommend going for that one instead.

Review for Matrix Trilogy 3-Disc Set: The Matrix, Matrix Reloaded and Matrix Revolutions [1999]:
Awesome Sci-fi carrying a powerful metaphor
The Matrix Trilogy must be one of the most significant films of our time, and is likely to go down as an all time sci-fi classic along with the likes of Blade Runner. It is obviously laden with symbology fished from a variety of sources, but I wonder if the Watchowski brothers realised just exactly how powerful a metaphor for our reality they were creating. The central premise that our lives are not 'real' but are steeped in illusion in order that our life force may be fed upon whilst we are enfenced unwittingly like cattle - this is a relevant and powerful message on many levels. Review for Independence Day [1996]:
Hey ain't it great to be American?
Moronic tosh of the first order. Jingoistic, crass and absurdly over patriotic. The tragedy here is that it was a box office smash on both sides of the Atlantic. Please, if you have at least three brain cells watch something (anything) else. Stretch yourself and do not encourage drivel like this by buying it.85
Review for The Fifth Element [1997]:
Luc Besson's high-octane film is beautifully thought out and set against the classic french futurist visions of two French comic book artists, Jean Claude Mezieres and Moebius, who inspired, and ultimately worked with writer/director Luc Besson, on the film's overall production design creating a stunning 'comic book' influenced grande-scale series of sets.
The seething future-vision multi layered city with its nestling protective smog layer, flying cars, vertical monorails and lifts and urban sky level walkways echoes and precedes scenes from Blade Runner and Minority Report but is tinged with the yellow/reds of Marvel Comic land. Yes in this movie the future is predominantly Orange at times! Bruce's insouciant action hero taxi driver excells as he daredevil pilots his adapted classic NYC Yellow Cab thru multi level city sky traffic in scenes worthy of John Dykstra's Star Wars breakneck speed hoverbike and Tie fighter chases.
Leeloo (Milla Jovovich) is the mysterious personnified 5th Element loaned sacrificially by a visually circular metallic alien race of robot-like creatures Modoshawans, who clearly have a Stargate feel about them. She comes in an unconventionally curveless real life mere 19 year old girl-package with a hint of underfed lower-teen-androgyne. Of course this being 20th Century family Hollywood such a perilously ingenue creature is ludicrously but interestingly costumed for the sake of cinema modesty. At least Jean-Paul's minimally creative 'bandaged car crash victim' outfit is a change from the usual silver bikini of futurist fems.
Emmanuel Zorg (Gary Oldman) is an unlikeable posturing villain in comically non frightening Lex Luther mode reporting to a dark, unearthly never revealed planet-killing force. The best characterisations are the shape-changing assassins, Mangalores, which were the prosthetically challenging special effects triumph. They are the grunts - storm trooper type stock enemy troops who were actually pretty cool-looking in the film, but dumb as they come.
Sexiest creatures in the movie are the sky-blue outfitted Gaultier dressed scantily-clad stewardesses on the interplanetary flight liner who fit all out many male notions of what flight attendancy should be all about!
The rest is villainy, comedy interchange, laser battles, huge explosions, and all the usual Die Hard cliches transferred to a spacefaring environment. If you are looking for the va-va-voom element it's all provided by the camply outrageous multi-media show host presenter, the idiotically vain and narcissistic Ruby Rhod. This skillfully realised annoying yet ultimately watchable pastiche character gives Jar-Jar Binks a decent run for his money as he/she can talk-sing non-stop like a 20 to the dozen future version of RuPaul on speed. Jean-Paul went to town on the looks and costumes for this mega-camp media star and Bruce's visible action-male discomfort and bemusement is a treat to observe when first cornered by the outrageous over the top Ruby, who makes the UK's Lily Savage look like a shy retiring wallflower.
Bruce triumphs in the end (natch!)and doesnt say Yippe-kay-yay Mofo even one time....and the bad guy meets the usual just fate and the universe is saved in the nick of time in true Capt Kirk/Flash Gordon style. Hoorah !
The films scores for me for sheer fun value and the comic book comedic action and dialogue is balanced against the superb futuristic detail and grandiose set visions. My favourite moment of the entire film is the start when Bruce is buying noodles from the wonderful old chinese man in his 'floating red-sailed' sky junk steaming away in the breakneck cluttered traffic snarled sky. This makes the opening of the film reminiscent of Deckard at the noodle stand in Blade Runner. I loved the homage and incongruity of that scene.
All in all I like this film and have watched it many times. Although it's a comic romp and lacks the gritty drama of my other favourite movies, for many reasons the overall futurist 'dream' of it and the fun exuberance of seeing Bruce play his favourite action hero cliche out on the future sci fi stage make it a regularly revisited DVD.

Review for The Fifth Element [1997]:
Die Hard meets Star Wars
Bruce Willis plays himself admirably amidst a comic ' save the universe ' plot and even manages a Die Hard reminiscent orange vest designed by master outfitter Jean Paul Gaultier who lends a future Fellini-esque element to the bustling cast of eccentric characters. Bruce's indolent, malcontent ex-special-forces resignee turned taxi driver ( I know the feeling ) seeths with urban survivalist irritation and takes no prisoners. He gives us tongue in cheek 'frozen-then-revived John McLean style' see the scene 'anyone else want to negotiate?' for that revelant comparison!Luc Besson's high-octane film is beautifully thought out and set against the classic french futurist visions of two French comic book artists, Jean Claude Mezieres and Moebius, who inspired, and ultimately worked with writer/director Luc Besson, on the film's overall production design creating a stunning 'comic book' influenced grande-scale series of sets.

Review for Battlestar Galactica - The Mini Series [2003] [2004]:
The writers of BSG had set up an intriguing storyline at the end of season 2 - a huge city on a difficult planet, with the Cylons running a brutal occupation over the citizens of New Caprica. Season Three wastes no time in showing the desperate lengths that the embittered survivors in New Caprica will go to when fighting the Cylon occupation. Suicide bombings, people betraying other people, and double-agents are the de-rigour from the offset. This is challenging science-fiction, showing chilling contemporary relevance and a bold vision.
Characters continue to make tough choices, right up until Admiral William Adama arrives back with the Battlestar Galactica to make one of the most audacious rescues in television history. Without spoiling anything, it is pretty special and well balanced with some intense characterisation.
The challenging storylines continue with the fleet seemingly 'reunited', but nonetheless still 'split', with the survivors of New Caprica bitter and looking for reparations over their own extreme actions and those who allegedly collaborated with the Cylons.
Its at this point though that the season begins to 'sag' a little. There are excellent story arcs here and there, but occasionally the feeling of 'stand-alone' episodes seems to seek in. Opinion seems divided on them. To me the raging-bull-esque 'Unfinished Business' is strong and a brilliant piece of direction, but I felt frustrated by some of the other episodes, as either threads are suddenly buried, or I just didn't feel interested enough in some of the other threads.
Still, BSG's weaknesses put most other Science Fiction (i'm not just talking about television), to shame. The acting remains nuanced and compelling, even if a 'soap-opera' feels does permeate the rivalries that develop over the essentially forbiden love of Lee Adama and Kara Thrice.
As always though, BSG pulls its best punches in the final third. One character seems to vanish, while the trial of disgraced president of New Caprica, Guis Balthar, provdies a good dramatic weight to anchor the final episodes. As always there's one heck of a shift in terms of story at the end (and without spoiling it), which makes the final season seem like it will have plenty of story to get into, without, one hopes, veering to close to some of the weaker aspects of this series.
Certainly when its at its best, BSG is compelling Science Fiction of the highest order. Highly reccomended. (If you're starting from scratch get the mini-series and the 1-3 boxset. It's worth it!)

Intelligent, Compelling Science Fiction
Season Three contains BSG's best and worst moments. Review for Stargate Atlantis - Series 2 - Complete:
Im not really an sg-1 fan i love rhe original movie but never got in to the tv series i did try but a)it didnt really appeal to me or b)i never gave it enough time to grow on me.I came across atlantis by accident i caught an episode on sky and decided to watch it and i loved it, the first thing i noticed is how cool the characters are rodney was hilarious and kept making me laugh along with becket. So when my birthday came around my wife asked me what i wanted, i took a chance and got season 1 and 2. After watching both seasons this is one of my favourite shows in fact im starting to like this as much as deep space nine and i love that show. The characters in atlantis are funny and cool from rodney, sheperd, ronnan all of them there is great chemistry between them which i have not seen in a show since ds9, the episodes are mostly well writen and are never trully awfull, also i love the wraith and the effects are great. The dvds have 5.1 sound and a great picture, i have even started to watch more sg-1 so if it was the creators desire to try to introduce new people in to the stargate universe they have succeded i may never be a big sg-1 fan but i love atlantis and cant wait to see season 3.

Review for Day Watch [2006]:
If you have seen nightwatch:
this continues the story on from the end of that film, and ups the stakes somewhat as the light and the dark ones are drawn into conflict. our hero anton is on a quest for the chalk of destiny, an object that can literally rewrite history. but he has a few things to learn on the way..
running for roughly two hours this rounds off the story, and in quite a decent way. the film is well directed and stylish and very clever in the way it depicts it's world, and the cast are all very good, especially the actor who plays the leader of the dark ones, making his character intriguingly ambiguous.
If you liked the first film, you should enjoy this.
but as has been mentioned in other reviews, the dvd is disappointing. the original film had animated subtitles that changed design to match what was happening on screen. but this doesn't have them, just going for ordinary english language ones instead [and greek if you want also] and the only extras are a decent twenty minute long making of documentary [subtitled] and the original russian trailer.
Good film. shame there's not more on the dvd

confused? you will be!
If you haven't seen the film nightwatch, that is. that is a russian fantasy film involving two groups of supernatural creatures living in uneasy harmony in present day moscow, unnoticed by normal people. This is a sequel to nightwatch, and it's to all intents and purposes nightwatch part two as it continues on from the original film. It makes no concessions to new viewers so if you've not seen nightwatch then go and watch that first. If you have seen nightwatch:

Review for The 4400 - Series 3 - Complete [2006]:
The story line is ramped up so much I had to replay several sequences again as twist and turns are all over the shop.
Without a doubt the strongest story is ' Gone Part One / Part Two ' and at times its very chilling indeed.
Conchita Campbell who plays ' Maia Skouris ' is exceptional and the ' Gone ' story line revolves around her.
In fact this story gets to the whole heart of the complete series
This episode reinforces the"ripple effect" and when you think about it - you really have to wonder if this ever became ' Science Fact ' then there is great danger in playing God.
4400 - Series 4 - will be released in the UK on 30 th of June 2008 but sadly there will not be a Series 5 as CBS Paramount Network Television have cancelled the show.
How many times has this happened before ?
I am sure that most of you will remember Firefly another cracking series

Review for Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (Limited Edition, Includes Theatrical Version) [1977]:
I remember opening day at the theaters. I was old enough to remember every scene, every character, every nuance of this film; having committed it to memory forever, as if I would never again be able to see this beloved, instantly loved masterpiece.
I also remember that the HIT factor of this movie was so unexpected that you had to wait literal MONTHS to get the action figures promised on the cereal boxes. The pieces were still in the manufacturing process and we had to settle for coupons promising our toys in a few months. I wound up seeing this in the theaters a grand total of 36 times; much to my mother's dismay. She loved the movie as I did, but felt I was obsessed. Today, thirty years later, sitting here writing this review, I realize how right she was. I'm still obsessed with this movie, and with the subsequent movies which followed. I wait in great anticipation for Episode 3. I'm a fan, and I don't care what other people say about Episodes 1 & 2. I don't even mind the"prequel" factor, as the situation at the time, dictated to Lucas which movies he would do first.
See, I remember the studios saying to him that he had to choose from the three central climactic books, and trash the rest, or just trash the whole idea. He didn't exactly"sell out," he did what he had to do to get his movie...his vision...out there for us to see and experience. I admired his decision then, and I admire it now. Episodes 1-3 are being filmed now, because Lucas had the clout, the money, and the patience to give us his vision...his complete vision and not just the three center books of a 9-book series. I realize that now, there are dozens of books, but at the time, there were nine. And while most of us were happy with Episodes 4-6 and would not have missed 1-3 and 7-9, I personally am so very glad he has taken it upon himself to give us his full vision. I have enjoyed each and every installment with the same sense of awe and joy as I did this one.
The casting was the first triumph for this cinematic milestone. Ford is a charismatic and magnetic personality and portrayed Han with a professionalism that you'd expect from more seasoned actors. Sir Alec Guiness is an absolute joy as Obi Wan. His casting was precise and excellent in that part. Carrie Fisher portrayed Leia in a way that, up until then, had never been experienced. Most"princess" types before her were whining, whimpering, little snots who were incapable of anything beyond tripping and twisting their ankle in times of peril, while Fisher portrayed her character as a bold, brazen, yet sophisticated and educated woman who was aware of her surroundings and capable of defending herself and her realm with the utmost authority.
And Mark Hamil. He was perfectly cast as the whining little boy who wanted more, but was afraid to reach for it. He grows up quite well on film in these three installments, and endears himself to the audience so much the more for it. But a cast member who is almost always left out of these reviews is Peter Mayhew. Chewbacca. His character, as a supporting character to Han's, was exemplary. It's not easy portraying a walking carpet, yet holding the attention, admiration, and love of virtual millions. I am VERY happy about his being cast as Chewy in Episode 3. Couldn't happen to a more deserving...or capable...fellow. Bravo! And James Earl Jones's voice being used as the voice of Darth Vader, was pure genius. His commanding voice haunted the dreams of countless thousands of star-struck children for generations to come. I also have to say that this movie would not have had the charm it does had it not been for Anthony Daniels' C3P0. He is a gift and a joy.
The musical score by John Williams featured in this masterpiece was one of the contributing factors. But honestly, this movie's success was such a total surprise to everyone, including Lucas, that nothing could prepare the world for the aftermath of having witnessed this bona fide legend, first hand.
The story itself; replete with sub-plot after sub-plot, rich in dialog and detail, was beyond anyone's greatest expectations. Everyone, including Lucas, expected this movie to fail. It is a timeless classic, which I will not repeat here. There are too many movie reviews giving full details of the plot, and I won't be redundant beyond what I have already said.
However, that being said, there are a few points I would like to make concerning the symbolism of this endeavor. The Force is a metaphor for the psychic abilities with which we are all born. It was also a metaphor for hope and faith, dedication and commitment to the greater state of being. The Empire is said to have been a metaphor for the Germanic Nazi"storm troopers." While the Rebellion is said to have been symbolic of (what would later become) the NATO forces who defeated them.
And then there are the effects. The effects were, in 1977, so awesome; so creative; so ahead of their time, as to ensure this movie's vast success for the next forty years. George Lucas enjoys an almost god-like status among sci-fi/fantasy fans worldwide.
This movie does not rate a rating. Usually, when I say that, it is because the movie is so bad, or disappointing that I don't have the heart to rate it.
But in this case, it far surpasses any 10/10 rating I could give it.

Review for Doctor Who : The Runaway Bride (2006 Christmas Special) [2006] [2005]:
This year was quite possibly the worst with Catherine Tate being especially terrible. You can't help but spend the whole time waiting for her to do her own so-called comedy" Am I Bovvered!" routine.
Doctor who is much better than this, if only they could capture that magic more than once or twice a year.

Another Atrocious Christmas"Special"
I don't know why every Christmas I expect it to be different, expecting Dr Who to hit the heights as shown in episodes like The Empty Child and The Doctor Dances, The Girl In The Fireplace and Blink. Yet every Christmas the same old turkey is delivered to us on Christmas Day. We don't get a special episode, we don't even get a quality episode, we get the most awful"adventure" of the entire year. This year was quite possibly the worst with Catherine Tate being especially terrible. Review for Soylent Green [1973]:
Whilst investigating the murder of the head of the Soylent company Thorn discovers that there is a sinister side behind the production of Soylent Green. The film develops at quite a pace, and is pretty short, so it keeps you hooked. Its portrayal of the future is intriging (and scary). For example the human race seems to have gone backwards in its treatment of women. In this vision of the future they have become 2nd class citizens again, who can be used (and abused) by men as they see fit.
Charlton Heston gives, what I would describe as his default performance. Its fine, but he was never a great actor. The film will stick in your memory for other reasons: Firstly because of Edward G Robinson. It was his 101st film role and he died two weeks after the film was completed. Secondly its a scary prediction of how we can mess this planet up. But its our children and their children who will pay the price...

Review for Soylent Green [1973]:
Very scary
Set in the year 2022 in New York. Manhattan is very over-crowded and the majority of people live in poverty, literally living for their next meal. Charlton Heston plays Thorn, a policeman who at least has his own small apartment, which he shares with Sol, who's played by Edward G Robinson. Soylent Green is the latest food being produced for the masses to eat (essentially it looks like squares of green cardboard).Whilst investigating the murder of the head of the Soylent company Thorn discovers that there is a sinister side behind the production of Soylent Green. Review for Ghost In The Shell - Stand Alone Complex - SAC 1st GIG - Complete Box Set:
this is sheer brilliance, the story and plot is perfect
the graphics are breathtaking going from strength to strength.
the charicters are on top from the start and surpass even the most pessimistic persons view.
the story is rather similar to the original film so you'll be disappointed if your expecting a new turn on the genre although the producers of this seres have excelled in molding and crafting these stories into singular unique stories which at the same time are connected by several story arcs
this allows the stories progression to rapidly increase to feverishly good heights
this is an outstanding collection and should be bought immediately for the philosophical aspects alone. 5/5 insanely good ^_^

Review for Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (2 Disc Special Edition):
Back in the late nineties and, in fact, up to about an hour ago, I've been playing the masterpiece of the original Final Fantasy VII video game. It is a brilliant game, with (at the time) ground breaking graphics, and a plot so thick and diverse that you'd wonder if they were somehow reconstructing history. I, like millions of others around the world, was simply in awe of its achievements.
However one does have to wonder if in fact, they should have quit while they were WAY ahead.
Let's start with the plot. In short, it's painfully simple. Moreover, back-story knowledge is required to grasp the bulk of it. For those of you not acquainted, I'll go through it briefly, but again, research is in my opinion, needed to appreciate its full worth. While it should turn you to the video game (perhaps intentionally?), by the time you've figured it all out, this instalment might make you feel like it was a bit of a waste of time. In other words, those who do know what's going on will find this plot flimsy, and the rest of us will generally be left scratching our heads.
THE PLOT: Basically, an alien (called Jenova) crash-landed on Gaia (the planet) and was at some point dismembered and partially mixed with a baddie named Sephiroth, who in turn was defeated (in the original game).
In this sequel, Sephiroth, using Jenova's DNA abilities to live in a dismembered state, has (in its separate pieces) taken human form, and begun his mission to reunite himself so that he may resume his plans to take over the planet.
A main part of Sephiroth (that is yet to take human form) resides in the hands of the humans left in a city (called Midgar), which was ruined in the original video game. Jenova, however, also happens to infect the 'lifestream' (think the transit time between death and rebirth - or reincarnation - of all life on the planet as its blood flow), which is born out through a kind of severe eczema on a large percentage of the population. We follow the drama that unfolds as the heroes of the 1997 classic video game are brought out of retirement, and back into the action to defend Gaia once more.
In terms of visual presentation, there is no faulting, or understating, the massive achievements made here. Advent Children is so sweet on the senses, that in just one sitting you are thankful that diabetes can't be contracted this way. I am especially a fan of the return of the summon monster Bahamut, and his destructive reign over the city of Midgar, it is, well, just really cool. I was, however, quite baffled about the new laws of physics, which can look ridiculous to most newcomers, and as a fan, quite bothered me. I mean, it was hardly adhering to our laws anyway, but Advent Children just seems to be having a laugh with them, and (if you take this as a serious sequel) almost invalidating the original game, where you couldn't just casually leap up seventy stories of a building.
Nobuo Uematsu has yet again, done a great job on the audio front. I enjoyed most of what was coming from my speakers, thanks to his talent of making me feel emotion in a video game, and doing it through his music.
However, as with all animations to date, there has always been a certain something which is lacking, and I feel that is the real human element. Firstly, the voice-overs; whilst a somewhat all-star cast has been assembled for this historic piece of entertainment, I was quite disappointed at the seemingly monotonous tones of all of the actors; they also didn't quite seem to match up to the movements of their mouths. That implied to me that after the Japanese version was made, they just put different and undeniably boring voices over the top, which considering the size of the international fan-base, was a little disappointing. Moreover, it added to the noticeably mechanistic, disconnected feel of the characters I had previously come to love, and others had just met. The bubbly, charismatic and engrossing speech bubble heroes have seemingly degenerated into these miserable, mumbling sods. Perhaps something was lost in the translation, as a lot of the problems are quite subtle and, I fear, cultural. It just seemed difficult to re-engage myself in their plight. I had to make an effort to involve myself, and once you start doing that, it's a long way back to enjoyment.
So in summary; we have a stand-alone plot thinner than the width of a piece of paper and stale, almost unrecognisable characters. Most fans, in the cold light of day, really only have the visuals and Nobuo Uematsu to cling to. The newcomers really need to become fans to enjoy it, which can be a huge effort. All in all, it seems to be nothing more than a marketing ploy, and some kind of gimmick, which is all show, no go. Perhaps I just set my standards a bit too high, but as a fan of the series, I'm quite disappointed.

The sequel to the best ever game is here, but I'm sorry to report it's all mouth and no trousers.

Review for Star Trek - Deep Space Nine - Series 6 (Slimline Edition):
let war commence
The best season of deep space nine begins with the six part occupation arc continuing from the season 5 finale in which hostile forces occupy the station & its up to a small band of resistance fighters to help Starfleet forces retake the station which concludes with an epic battle. The season continues with episodes of the highest calibre with marriage in `you are concordantly invited', faked death in who `mourns for morn', survival with your worst enemy in `waltz', the fantastic `beyond the stars', the secret sub division of the federation in `inquisition', unprepared glory hungry cadets in `valiant' & the exciting & heart breaking season finale `tears of the prophets'. This season showcases the finest of ds9 & perhaps of any star trek show. It's worth every penny you pay for it particularly at this low price, snap it up.99
Review for Doctor Who: The War Machines [1966]:
Bit obvious to say but here we have an inadvertant template for the Unit stories of the '70's. In a Contemporary setting the Doctor is known to the Establishment and is enlisted to help them against the tank like War Machines being sent by super computer Wotan to destroy London. You could almost expect the Brigadier to pop up and reminisce about Omega!
Is Wotan possibly a German super computer as everyone keeps calling it"Votan"?
Hartnell & Jackie Lane had clearly got their working relationship down pat by now, and the story opens on a lovely moment as they share a smile about Policemen thinking the tardis is a Police Box. What a dreadful way Dodo is written out though, chucked out halfway through the story as though she'd lost the Big Brother eviction vote!
Polly and Ben make strong debuts, even though the cockney bit is laid on a little thick at times by Michael Craze. They don't have a ton of Chemistry with Great Great Uncle Bill, but in their 1st appearance this is not a problem.
The War Machines were a great design then, Budget sized tanks crossbred with the Total Survival Suit from"Kinda" which, despite being a tiny bit dated look pretty good now.
Major slip up award for Wotan demanding that"Dr Who" be brought to him!
It moves qite well over its 4 parts and although slower than the Police Box Show is now, could make a nice introduction to the '60's Who stories for current series fans.
Apart from sticking my neck out to say there will obvously be a commentary by someone, no details are yet available on extras. When a reliable source publishes something, I'll be back with a mini-update.

Review for Star Trek Voyager - Season 3 (Slimline Edition):
The season opener was strong and gave us a chance to see the crew in a new situation off Voyager. I liked The Chute, it was a good look at friendship pushed to the edge and gave Robert McNeill a lot of air time which is never a bad thing. I loved the Futures End 2 parter, again we got to see the crew in different surroundings. Warlord was a excellent episode for Jennifer Lien it gave her an opportunity to show what a great actress she is outside of the confines that her character would normally allow.
The Q and the Grey and Macrocosm were 2 great episodes that showcased Kate Mulgrew's great acting talents but my favorite episode of the season was Coda. We were able to watch the death of a main character (repetedly) and see the crew mourn their captain without actually having to kill her off. Chakotay crying over Janeway's dead body was the best scene of the season if (like me) you ever harbored any hope that the two would eventually get together.
Before And After showed us what could have been and gave us a sneak peak into the Year Of Hell story although I for one am extremly pleased that Janeway and B'elanna did not die in the real Year Of Hell. Displaced and Worst Case Scenario were also very entertaining episodes and obviously Scorpion Part 1 (Voyagers first encounted with the Borg)was brilliant and the best cliff-hanger episode on Voyager to that date. The show only got better from then on and I urge everyone to purchase these boxsets although I suspect they will come down in price at some point as all the TNG and DS9 boxsets are currently around the £15-£20 mark. Enjoy.

Review for Star Trek Voyager - Season 3 (Slimline Edition):
Great season, great show
I loved Voyager right from the start, the characters and the perfomances from the actors who play them have always been brilliant but I must admit the story content had some room for improvement and bar a few episodes in Season 2 really came into its own in Season 3. I recently delved back into my Voyager obsession after seeing Kate Mulgrew in The Black Donnelly's (check it out its a really good show) and started with Season 3 because I remembered it having some good quality episodes. The season opener was strong and gave us a chance to see the crew in a new situation off Voyager. A thinking person's SF film full of light and shadow
I loved this film. From the moment you hear the name of the ship at the beginning - you can work out the ending - that's not rocket science, but knowing the end doesn't tell you about the journey the crew have to get there. I loved the chiaroscuro in this film - the contrasts between the sun and the moody dark claustrophobic shadow in most of the ship. The relationships between the crew were brilliant, reminding me a little of the first Alien film, and Solaris too. I thought their acceptance that they might be on a one-way ticket and that they'd do whatever they had to to complete the mission and save the Earth added layers of complexity and allowed the suspense to be wound up and up as the minutes ticked on. The ship was fantastically realised and belied the film's relatively small budget and at 103 minutes, it wasn't overlong at all. This is a thinking person's science fiction film and is all the better for it. Loved it.
