Review for The X Files Movie [1998]:
Only part that questioned me... (Spoiler) Mulder travels to the Antartic/Pole with the knowledge he has to give Scully a viral antidote in a certain period of time. Yet, with only a caterpillar-tracked vehicle, he's clearly scaled miles of snow in the amazingly short time he's got, considering he was back in the U.S moments before! I guess that's why they call this 'Hollywood Timing'...
Don't miss this if you're an X Files fan, or indeed if you just like little green men!

Review for The X Files Movie [1998]:
Fantastic stand alone with no loose ends!
This film is totally better than I remembered. Then again, I probably appreciate it more now with the glut of awful films to have been released over the past few years. Scripted and acted out in a way that non-X Files fans can enjoy, the film is very satisfying in that it holds no loose ends when the film is over. Though its set out, plotted, and arranged like a normal X Files episode, the Hollywood influences only ensure some lovely 'nasty' alien props, along with great location in the antartic and more.Only part that questioned me... Some annoying instances of characters (usually Mulder) being very stupid just to move the plot along but that's just being picky. Good entertainment all the way through.

Best yet
Watching the DVDs through from season one, this is the best of the first four. Doesn't suffer with the poor attempts at comedy episodes that plagued season 3. Still has weaker ones but overall a brilliant season. Some annoying instances of characters (usually Mulder) being very stupid just to move the plot along but that's just being picky. Review for X Files: Season 7 [1999]:
An Interesting Season..
Ah. Here's an interesting moment for the x-files; presumably aware that it would be David Duchovny's last full season, the x-files directors allowed explorations deep into characters. All Things, written and directed by Gillian Anderson is an expecially good example. The season is one of the worst, however, because the StandAlone episodes took a noticably humourous and light-hearted edge to the show. The season gets under way nicely with The Sixth Extinction, which follows Mulder's journey through his visions as his brain suffers from its deadly disease (as contracted at the end of season 6) and Scully searches for a cure. There are high points in the coming StandAlone episodes, such as 'Millennium' which rounded off Chris Carters second-best TV Show of the same name, which was cancelled before the conclusion. The episode also features a beautiful moment between Mulder and Scully at the New Year's Eve, which starts an insight into their relationship which was to continue throughout the season. Mulder learns the truth about his sister in 'Closure', which was a wise idea since the story had grown thin of late. Some of the funnier standalone episodes include 'X-Cops' and 'Hollywood A.D' which are genuinely funny, but there are also some dissappointing episoded such as 'Fight Club'. 'En Ami', written by the Cancer Man himself was an interesting look at the life of the x-files most mysterious character. Then there's the Finale, 'Requiem'. Mulder's abduction, which bought a lump to my throat. Scully's pregnancy, which baffled me yet interested me. With Mulder going, Chris Carter wrote in some shippy moments between the infamous partnership which left me praying to see how they'd go on, being a 'shipper myself. A lot of questions were left for season 8, after a good yet imperfect season that provided some great shippy moments but none of the dark atmosphere we saw in the earlier seasons.7

Review for The X Files: Season 3 [1994]:
Favourite episode
I'm not particularly a fan of shows of this genre, but x files is a classic and so an exception to that! This is not my favourite season neccesarily- but contains my favourite episode (D.P.O. aka episode 3) which remains untouched as the best in my opinion even after all these years! So I would recommend this season just on the strength of that, and a few other absolute gems contained. Thing with the x files is that there isn't a definitive 'best season' as all tend to have some really strong episodes and then some not so much- all down to opinion I hasten to add, as all our well scripted and enthralling but depends on what interests you to an extent and what really makes you think. Some say start at season 1 and work your way through, and although there is a sense of continuity re: Mulder and Scully and their personal lives; diving in at any point is an absolute treat and the start of what will probably be wanting to see as many as you can! I enjoy trying to figure stuff out as it goes along, and for me this series was the best for that.8
Review for The X Files: Season 1 [1994]:
Series 1.The era of puffy hair and huge glasses.I loved it from Pilot with the Cancer Man smoking in the background and the very first thing Mulder said to Scully"Sorry, nobody in here but the F.B.Is most unwanted!":D.Theres a huge range of cases here(shattering my pre-conceived notions that they ran around after aliens all the time)men who can squeeze into the smallest space imaginable, telepathic physco-murderers,pyro-maniacs,scary protective dead guys,time-loss,alien abductions all sprinkled with a fine layer of goverment consperacies, paranioa and danger. And Mulder and Scully themselves are fantastic-the chemistry between the two leads is awesome, Mulders determined belief and dry wit, and Scully's determined scepitism and ability to come up with a logical explanation for just about anything make for brilliant TV.
I suppose you could argue it's outdated(Ghost In The Machine*cough*)but I can't see it.Sure the graphics and special effects are jaded but hey, who really cares?Me, I just loved seeing Scully emerge from the vent to save Mulder and destroy the physco super computer. Who cares when the cases are so original(and have been the basis of many horror movies since),the script so funny, and the FBIs most unwanted so freakin brilliant?(Although they seemed to have an odd way of NEVER speaking of previous cases in any great detail in this Season, or screaming, or freaking out- not Mulder and Scully!)
So if you like The X-Files at all you have to buy this. The most original and best TV show ever made.THE X-FILES ROCK!!!

Scully:I think there's something up there Mulder. Mulder:Ooh, I've been saying that for YEARS.
I originally developed my love for this show a mere 4 months ago, when Living TV were playing Season 2.I'm one of the next generaton of X-Philers, being a teenager - daughter of the one with the credit card. My brother, older and wiser, had often said I would really enjoy the show if I ever sat down to watch it, and when I did it was brilliant.Series 1.The era of puffy hair and huge glasses.I loved it from Pilot with the Cancer Man smoking in the background and the very first thing Mulder said to Scully"Sorry, nobody in here but the F.B.Is most unwanted!":D.Theres a huge range of cases here(shattering my pre-conceived notions that they ran around after aliens all the time)men who can squeeze into the smallest space imaginable, telepathic physco-murderers,pyro-maniacs,scary protective dead guys,time-loss,alien abductions all sprinkled with a fine layer of goverment consperacies, paranioa and danger. Review for X Files: Season 8 [2000]:
The first half of the season deals with Doggett's introduction to the X-Files, becoming the skeptic, while Scully is now the believer. It's also interesting to note that this season uses the mythology arc more than any other in the series, which is both a strength (for long-term fans) and a weakness (for casual viewers).
The season really picks up in the second half, when Mulder returns to the mix, investigating a number of cases with new characters Doggett and Monica Reyes (played by Annabeth Gish), as well as a continuing relationship with Scully. All events culminate into the fantastic season finale Essence and Existance, which could have made a great series finale if not for season 9, which turns out much weaker as a whole.

Still Going Strong...
If you ask any X-Files fan when they thought the show 'jumped the shark', they'd probably say season 8. Not me though. The opening two-part episodes Within and Without are perhaps two of the best mythology arc related episodes in the series, picking up events from season 7 cliffhanger Requiem and introducing new regular character John Doggett (played by Robert Patrick). The first half of the season deals with Doggett's introduction to the X-Files, becoming the skeptic, while Scully is now the believer. Review for X Files: Season 9 [2003]:
Truth or Hate
As a fan of this once great show I can say with honesty that this season falls short not only in the absence of David Duchovney (Mulder) but of Gillian Anderson, though she is in this she doesnt seem to be involved a whole lot. Gillian Anderson really doesnt apply herself here and doesnt seem to care about the show anymore which reflects in her occasionally glassy performance. Season 9 should have been the greatest of all with questions to answer that the writers have posed instead there is a lot of stand alone episodes and a 90min series finale...this doesnt answer everything just merely gives us a montage of what we have seen already! Suffice to say the creators of this show could not explain the complex plots they have nurtured over 9 years in a 90min ending!!! A good season though but not great I have my favorite episodes"4D""William""Providence" so all isnt doom and gloom just prepare yourself if you are an avid fan of the series especially the mythology episodes. Fans of just the stand alone episodes, fear not there is plenty here and Doggett and Reyes try their best to fill the shoes of our heroes quite well.12

Ridiculous
The earlier episodes of the x files were by far the best. Towards the end it got a bit to hard to believe. The truth was so far fetched even the die hard believers of the alien phenomenon would find it hard to believe. At the end of the day i was really disappointed. Thank god for X Files repeats on Sky One!13

Review for The X Files: Deadalive [1994]:
The last good episode of the series!!!
I'll make this short and to the point: This Is Not Happening is a stunning episode! It's fast paced and exciting, with an ending that leaves you breathless and teary-eyed. But from then on it's all downhill, in my opinion... I loathed most of season 8 (and 9 - its only redeeming factor the finale), but for 42 minutes my faith in the show and its writers came back when I watched TINH.The second part of the two-parter - DeadAlive - is worth watching, if not for anything else then for the reunion.

Review for The X Files: Season 2 [1994]:
Season 2 picks up where Season 1 left off with the episode Little Green Men. This is where the mythology arc of the show really begins to take off. Mulder races to make contact with a downed UFO before a secret government team can cover it up. Duane Barry, the Emmy-nominated episode, is another in the mythology arc in which a gunman who claims to have been the subject to alien experimentation holds Mulder and a handful of others hostage. Ascension is kind of the conclusion of the previous episode Duane Barry, in which the gunman takes Scully hostage and takes her up onto a mountain top and has her abducted by unseen forces so that they will leave him alone. Scully fights for her life in the episode One Breath after been deposited back onto Earth. The Season 2 two-parter in the form of Colony and End Game are undoubtedly some of the most gripping, enthralling and absorbing episodes in X-Files history. Mulder makes a stunning discovery regarding his missing sister, who he believes was abducted when she was only a young girl. Scully's life is also in danger when an alien bounty hunter tracks her down. These aliens have the ability to take the identical form of anyone they want to. The scene where the alien appears to be Mulder and goes to Scully's apartment, only for the real Mulder to ring Scully's mobile is one of the most symbolic scenes in the history of the show. Scully is taken hostage by these bounty hunters and Mulder must rescue her, but discovers a shocking alien plan to colonise the Earth. In the final mythology episode of Season 2 - Anasazi - things get really ugly for the agents when Mulder's father is killed by Alex Krycek, Mulder's enemy who works side by side with Cigarette-Smoking Man. Mulder and Scully also uncover a chilling link between a UFO cover-up and secret government experiments in a huge box buried underground in New Mexico. There are bodies everywhere...bodies of aliens. One cannot describe the suspense a fan experiences between the end of this episode and the Season 3 opener which concludes this Season 2 finale. Absolutely amazing.
The stand-alone episodes of this season include The Host, Blood, Sleepless, 3, Firewalker, Red Museum, Excelsius Dei, Aubrey, Fresh Bones, Soft Light and Our Town. One of the best stand-alone episodes is Irresistible. The agents track down a death fetishist whose horrifying obsession involves removing hair and fingernails of dead women. The way the man acts all kind and friendly makes it all the more freaky, especially when Scully (who is having trouble dealing with the case) is taken hostage by the man. In Die Hand Die Verletzt, the agents persue a group of school teachers who worship the devil led by a Satan-worshipping and demonic substitute teacher. Scenes such as the one with the snake in the basement is one of the most famous scenes in the show's history and you'll feel like crying when the teenage girl tells the agents about her horrifying experiences with these teachers - two of whom are her parents. Fearful Symmetry involves rare zoo animals being abducted and impregnated in a case which Mulder believes may be linked to alien conversation. Dod Kalm sees the agents stranded on a"ghost ship" which is in an area of the sea which accelerates the ageing process of the victims on board at an alarming rate. Mulder and Scully must find a way to survive of the stranded ship through means of fresh water. Gillian Anderson is superb in this episode and deserved to win an Emmy. Humbug was the first humorous episode of the show and was a huge success, further proving that this is a unique show that can scare and absorb you, while making you laugh and cry. In The Calusari, the agents investigate a young boy possessed by evil while being exposed to the ancient ritual of exorcism. It's episodes that include evil and Satan subjects that really, really scare me. I couldn't sleep after watching this episode! And the agents go behind closed doors to stop a grotesquely disfiguring virus that is killing off prison inmates at an epidemic rate in the episode F. Emasculata.
OVERALL GRADE: 10/10
Season 2 of The X-Files is definitely a highlight of the entire show. Every episode is absolutely excellent, but all touch you and affect you in different ways. There are not many shows that can do this, but The X-Files pulls it off to maximum effect. Fairly confident that the X-Files was here to stay because of the huge success of Season 1, Chris Carter put all his effort into Season 2 of the show. After the show just went on to become a global phenomenon, Carter gained more ideas for Season 3. One thinks things can't get any better after Season 2, but they can...and they do.

Review for The X Files: Season 2 [1994]:
Season 2 - awesome, addictive, enthralling and suspenseful
The final episode in Season 1 of The X-Files - The Erlenmeyer Flask - proved that this show could go from excellent to flat out stunning. In this episode, Deep Throat was killed and The X-Files was closed down. It truly was a superb season finale and helped the show continue for a second season, which was a million times better. Season 2 gained The X-Files popular critical and commercial acclaim, in which the show won awards at the Golden Globes, Digital Hollywood Awards, Saturn Awards and the Environmental Media Awards. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully respectively were born to play these roles and this aspect is what makes the show so excellent.Season 2 picks up where Season 1 left off with the episode Little Green Men. Review for The X Files: Season 3 [1994]:
And the fact that FOX started to give X-Files more money is definatly noticeable when compared to prior seasons these sets and this quality mixed with still original writing of original ideas probably made this one of the best things out there in the magical world of tv.
The better sets and quality reflects on the speciality of the episodes and obviously made it easier for the actors to get into their roles.
Duchovny and Anderson get into their roles much better than the prior seasons.
It's better than the earlier ones simply visual.
And better than the latter because most the writing and ideas were a lot more original.
The myth apisodes are in one word grand and not boring even though the later ones would definatily become just that.
Questions are raised but not forgotten. A definate must for every lover of good t.v.
The package is beautifuland even though the price would seem high to some people the 1080 minutes of spedtacluar tv are definatly worth it!

In season 1 they cover an awful lot of bases and do it very well.My only real criticism of season one is that it is literally very dark.No one appears to pay the electric bill at Fox in '93 because darkness reigns supreme!I know that's part of the point but it does get a little too dark in there sometimes which may well have you reaching for the brightness control.
Also look out for Nicholas Lea who appears as a victim in"Gender Bender" beacuse he later crops up as Kryzcek in later seasons.

All in all a great introduction to the X files canon.

Review for The X Files: Season 8 [1994]:
a new start
This season is definetly the end of the mulder/scully partnership as we know it. But dont be scared, its a refreshing new era for the x files. Mulder appears in most of the 2nd part of the season and his episodes working alongside Doggert are great. Like the one on the oil rig,"vienen". Oh and doggert is a great charecter, so dont hate him, like i know you want to. I cant think of a bad episode in this season, oh wait, not bad, but there is one truly awful episode, where nothing happens at all,"empedocles'. AVOID.'the opening 2 parter"within/without" is also one of the best, much better than season 7 opener."Roadrunners" is one of the best all time episodes."deadalive" (the return of Mulder) is a bit of a let down. The season opens very strongly, then fades a little in the middle, but after Mulders return, it picks up again. Some very interesting new twists to the"alien colonisation of earth" mythology. Also a welcome return for"Kricheck" and a increased role for AD Skinner, but AD Kirsh just gets annoying, he is supposed to be all menacing and mean, (tip: dont call him"Alvin") hardly a name that fills you with fear. Kirsh is a one trick pony, very 2d charecter. Reyes features in a few episodes also, doesnt do a whole lot. Overall this is a good season, doggert is a great charcter and the whole show felt reinvigorated.19

Ridiculous
The earlier episodes of the x files were by far the best. Towards the end it got a bit to hard to believe. The truth was so far fetched even the die hard believers of the alien phenomenon would find it hard to believe. At the end of the day i was really disappointed. There's definately something strange going on...
...with the boxset I received from Amazon. It arrived very quickly which was great. I discovered that Season 2 Disc 1 was missing so after contacting Amazon they sent me a free replacement. Again, superfast delivery. The replacement boxset had the Season 2 Disc 6 missing!!! I'm either extremely unlucky or there's some kind of coverup keeping me from finding out the truth lol.
Overall though, GREAT series. I never watched it when it was on TV so when Amazon released this set at a great price I thought why not!
Has anyone else had the problem of missing discs?
