DO NOT USE IF CHILDREN HAVE ACCESS TO COMPUTER

This review was written for the 2007 version but in order to save you all grief i thought i should put it under this year's version too. i'm sure this is an efficient programme for efficient people BUT its constant dialogue with the user (always asking permission for everything) places the computer at risk when someone other than an intelligent competent being responds to all the flags and warnings. My son is NOT intelligent nor competent and managed to ignore the warnings and turn off the virus protection which has meant the computer has now become infected and can no longer access the internet. Thanks alot guys, but slow or not i wish i had stuck with Norton. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

cfctlcom.exe error messages crashes runs very slowly

I have been using PC-Cillin since version 2005, and have used version 2005, 2006 and 2007.

Version 2008 runs very slowly even on 750MB ram. It crashes with cfctlcom.exe error messages once two days approx.

Tech support website obviously was no help. There is no option for the above scenario at all. Email replies from trend gave standard instructions to Uninstall use their cleaners and reinstall that made no difference - Afterall I was a longstanding customer using their product to upgrade to the next version! -HUH!

I have two options go back to 2007 or try another Antivius

This is a shame.

Better Than Norton Internet Security

I purchased Bitdefender Anti-virus Plus V10 with some caution, after using the Symantec product for many years. It's Faster, it doesn't take up so much space, and when scanning doesn't radically slow down my PC. Plus I can use it on two PCs for 2(yes Two) years for 20-30% less than the Symantec product! So far it has caused no problems with my PC, and while I use Spybot And Spyware Blaster as well, I have as yet found no breaches of security. The Windows Firewall is also left running, unlike the symantec product, which disables this function.

Not fully compatible with Vista SP1

The serial number you get with this product will probably have to be used with the later version available on the website if you have Vista SP1 as anything other than the latest version won't work. If you do get that version you will probably still have error messages and still not be able to use the spam filter - not on by default - as it seems to conflict with Windows Mail and keep it still running in the background - which causes errors at shutdown. The tech support are helpful but haven't found an answer that works after three weeks of different things. Not what it was, but I've seen a lot worse. If you don't use the spam filter it's ok.

Gave it a genuine try and........

It look's Smart But as always! It cannot take full control over Microsoft's built in feature's, I can only give it a rating of 2% out of 10% only for lovely colours ONLY. Thumbs down yet again for another year.

Your children aren't kept internet safe with this

One of the main reasons for buying the product was to ensure that my kids didn't stumble across unsuitable sites - the product sells itself as being able to do this. I set up the Privacy Control ("Parental Control") to block unsuitable sites and (fortunately!) tested it to check that it was working. It did not work! Although to be fair it did block about three quarters of the sites that it should, however, I don't think that parents would say that three queaters safe was anywhere near safe enough. I have seen another review that suggests that Symantec are aware of the problem with the"Panther" O/S, but this knowledge is not freely available from the help centre who told me to re-install the software but when this didn't work I eventaully spoke to a"Mac expert" who said that they were aware there was a problem in that the product does not work! They were then quite helpful and said that I could return the product to the retailer who should give me a full refund. It's probably common sense anyway, but if you're kids are on the internet, keep an eye on them to make sure they're safe, the"Parental Control" within this product doesn't do this for you if you've got Panther O/S.

Are the other parts of the product, virus protection etc, working? How can you test this? You can't, do you just sit and wait for it to fail? Overall, a disappointing product from a big name and the fact that Symantec know that it doesn't work doesn't seem to deter them from continuing to sell it without advising their cisutomers of it's known technical failing. Not good at all, so 1 star.

Excellent product

Have been using this for a few weeks now, having been a loyal user of norton. Was compromised a few weeks ago whilst using norton so I did a scan on my desktop pc, but found no viruses or trojans, so i downloaded the kaspersky trial software and it found 11 agent trojans, so i bought it the same day. Will never go back to Norton ever. Feel very safe with this product. As a bonus I could upgrade to version 7.0 for free.

Great Software you won't know until you try it!

I installed this on my computer and problems occurred and doesn't slow my computer a must to buy just try it.

Nice simple software

Nice simple software and Fast,which is what most ppl want i suspect,It doesnt drag on my system ,doesnt slow me down while crusing the net (even though my computer is slower than the recommned 450 MHZ)updates quickly with out fuss.A no frills deal that so far is working really well.A few ppl have had a problem with the zonealarm suite all in one protection package ,which in cludes lots of extra protection.some net techy advised that this can the case with large amounts of busy software parceled together and I took the advise to stick with the simpler stuff and install seperately if poss.so far so good.

yeah after reading the reviews and wanting to get away from zonealarms config problems and weird annomolies this looked a good bet. It is, very happy, simple software, nice added bonus with ID protection and ad blocking, never thought I would be saying this about a norton product, been a ZA & Mcafee user for years,works seamlessly with an antivirus product, at the mo with Norton 2005 but I am upgrading to 2006 and adding windows defender. Very secure and so much less system drag than a full suite, I can't really see what is missing, I am sure the norton suite version which gets shocking reviews has all the problems. Just goes to show, build your own security options and it works fine. Happy so far and would recommend this over suite protection.
