No software

As Luke has already said, there is no software in this box. I see Amazon have now added a note saying this is the case, but that's no use to me now! I'm still waiting for my product from Norton, and it's been more than 21 days. Would have been better off buying the full product that's now reduced in all the shops for christmas!

A Welcome Nanny

I was sceptical that this software would be of any use in a family where children are constantly using the net. This was because as the children grow older they become wiser in ways to circumvent any ad-hoc controls I might impose. This was especially true since I had Broadband installed. No longer could I simply disconnet the telephone cord. However it has worked a treat. Features it offers include restricting chatrooms and messaging services as well as the blocking of inappropiate sites. It also allows me to personalise the settings to suit the ages of the children. My only qualm is the trade name which is old fashioned. Apart from that its an indispesable product for all parents. Superb!

Don't buy Mcafee products!

I have just bought McAfee VirusScan Plus 2007 and think it is complete rubbish. I have had Mcafee on my computer for the past year and when my subscription ran out they offered me renewal at a special rate which turned out to be more expensive than buying the product as new! So I bought the product as new - first of all had installation problems which their helpline eventually admitted was their fault (at £1 per minute). Once I got it installed some of the programme was missing - again £1 per minute helpline admitted it was their fault. Then the programme caused error problems on my Outlook Express - again a common problem according to entries on Google. Trying to get a refund is impossible as they have no contact phone numbers, no address, no customer support in case of problems like this. DON'T BUY IT! Plus I would like to see the law changed so that any company offering products for sale online should be compelled to show a contact address plus a contact phone number - and that would be a manned contact address and a manned phone number.

This is one of the best firewalls on the market

Norton is probably the best firewall for the home market. With this release they have made the installation simpler. Hence you are required to restart your PC for updates less than previously. It also offers an almost seamless support against attacks (obviously dependant on user activity). It's also very easy to maintain. So you can't go wrong here unless you want to put your trust in your ISP as reviewed earlier

v,good firewall , lots of alerts at first , but once it beds into your system is very good performer, detects win 32 trojans before they install themselves onto your system (bonus) among other things. if your looking for a new firewall then buy this !!

Great value for money

Having previously bought single versions of Anti-virus and System Works, I was interested to see what this would be like.

Installation was pretty straightforward, just remove or disable any previous Anti-virus or Firewall products (including Norton's), and just let the installer chug along. (You may also need to turn off Automatic Updates temporarily if that's active at the time.) It's not an"unattended install", as you occasionally have to click a button, but you don't have to sit there watching the progress bar slowly move along.

Having installed it, the installer goes to Live Update to pick up new virus definitions, etc, and then does a full scan of your PC.

The interface seems clean and simple, but if you need to go under the bonnet and tweak the settings it seems easy enough to find what you need.

The Windows Security Center is disabled because Norton effectively replaces it.

Obviously time will tell how well it performs, but if you're a family or small business with three PCs, this seems a very good way to ensure they are protected.

Excellent anti-virus system

After having used Norton's for a number of years and finally fell out with it last year after it screwed a machine on uninstall, I spent a couple of moths researching many of the different anti-virus products.

Well, Trend just stood out as being the most stable, no noticeable PC speed degradation and just did what it was intended to.

Several other reviewers seem to have reported speed issues but I believe these are probably interactions with other software rather than Trend itself (one admits as much). I have very clean machines (no pointless things loaded as services/hooks and no other anti-spyware) and have not experienced any of the problems others have.

fine for XP users

have bought Panda AV for past 4 years = works perfectly with my 2yr old standard XP computer (512MB memory), and with previous computer before that

so much better than Norton et al, and doesn't hog the computer's speed like others do!

recommended for all standard XP users like me - not used the tech help which I gather is hopeless, but otherwise for this price / performance should suit most users

Great Piece of software

I like previous reviewers had been a loyal Norton Interent security (NIS) user since 2002. However, since I upgraded to NIS 2007 this bloatware has twice wreacked my PC, forcing 2 hard disk reformats and re-installation of Win XP pro on a 2 year-old Dell PC. I switched over to Bitdefender IS v 10 and my PC has come to life again ! With NIS 2007 runing on a vey old Sony laptop (over 4 years old), the laptop would take ages to start and reading/sending emails with Outlook was a"make a cup of tea while you wait" chore. The Dell with NIS 2007 was much fater, but NIS 2007 caused numerous crashes. With BitDefender IS v10's 2 year 2-user licence (ALL for much less than NIS 2007) I have regained a fast PC and the laptop is like a new machine. Bitdefender does EXACTLY what it says (managed to find 10 viruses / trojons that NIS 2007 completely failed to detect on my systems!) Bitdefender does it job, QUICKLY, quietly and without the"bells and whistles" of NIS 2007. THIS is what internet security should be like. Also, have a wireless LAN setup, no problems with BitDefender IS 10, it was a breeze, much easier that the NIS 2007 aclaimed easy setup (my foot!).
So far, both my systems have been using Bitdefender for 2 months without a problem, if it had been NIS2007, I would be reformatting my hard disk right now! NIS 2007 was so bad, that even though I had more than 6 months left on NIS 2007 subscription, I trashed it, never to return. Best choice I made.
If you want a nice looking piece of software then buy NIS 2007, but if you want an internet security system that works, get Bitdefender.
You don't need to read this review to see the difference in NIS 2007, just look at the price. I paid nearly £40 in October 2006 for NIS 2007"Upgrade", just look at the price for NIS 2007 now less than £23 !! Norton are feeling the pressure from the likes of BitDefender.

Symantec has finally released their latest version of Norton Personal Firewall, being the world leader in computer security.

Norton's Firewall and AntiVirus are very promising software, the down side is that they require a lot of system resources as they run a lot of programs in the background. All used to protect your machine.

If you're looking for a decent security software, you should consider purchasing this one.

Do not forget you should also consider Norton Antivirus 2005 too!

i have bought other secuirty packages but this has to be the best one. much better then norton. easy to set up, easy to fiddle with the setting and faster then norton when it is clean the disks up. i would recommend panda.

A lot of helpful features

Detection of fraudulent websites, crimeware and keylogger programmes is the main feature of NCO. It secures all kinds of online transactions like banking or shopping. The installation basically run automatically and almost by itself, so not much user input is needed. A toolbar gets added-in to your browser and informs you about the security level of the website you're on. My passwords are all safe, too now, because I've entered them into the password manager which is doing the password entries for me, so I even don't have to remember them.

A Big Relief

After struggling for months with the dreadful Norton 360, I'm so glad that I've managed to find a stable, simple, non-infuriating security system which doesn't slow my PC to a crawl.

I'm sure that none of the systems on the market are 100% perfect - but the vast gulf between this product and Norton makes a 5 star rating entirely reasonable.
