1) The abrasive wears very quickly, and it is unlikely that you will sharpen the blade more than once before it tears and needs replacing. Replacing the abrasive is easy, if tedious, as the glue holding the abrasive to the backing plate is *very* sticky.
2) If your mower blades are damaged due to stone chips and the like, it is a very good idea to remove any high spots with a file before using the Multisharp. If there are any high spots, it is likely to tear the abrasive.
With these provisos, it is a great piece of equipment. There's really nothing else I know of which will do the job.

Well worth the extra cost as they are very well constructed.
