Review for WALL-E (2 Disc Special Edition) [2008]:
Good message but a bit slow maybe for todays 'must have everything right now kids'.
This film has all the right moral fibre stuff like.... if we don't stop being greedy, abusing the the planet and start thinking of others then we are are all going to be screwed sooner rather than later. Also if we sit in front of computers on social networking sites vainly obsessing about ourselves and telling the world how we are feeling and what we are doing every five minites of the day, we will turn into self obsessed, vacuous idiots who no longer have the wherewithall to understand, interact and enjoy the real world for what it really is. It's also a love story, which too is all healthy stuff. That said, it's a bit slow for the younger viewer and some of it maybe won't be understood, so if your a hands off parent who is going to plonk your 8 year old down in front of the screen, then they probably won't get it....as like many of these sorts of films, they're great fun for adults too.3

Review for Kung Fu Panda [2008]:
Kung Fun Panda
'Kung Fun Panda' is your basic fun, family computer animated movie. It has lots of silly jokes, cute characters and a simple, yet humorous storyline. It follows Po the panda as he gets trained to be the dragon warrior and how he is treated by the other kung fun pupils. There is a high 'star' voice-over list for this film, including Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman, Angelina Jolie and Jackie Chan and they all do a great job bringing life to their various characters. It seems strange to ask Jackie Chan to do a voice over as he is a very physical actor and was barely used in this film, but it lends the film some martial arts kudos I guess. This is a good film for kids and is fun enough to keep parents interested as well. At just under 90 minutes it's not too long so kids will lose their attention or parents will get bored. It does what it sets out to do well, be a fun animated adventure, but there are better animated films out there and this has a great deal to live up to (hence the 3 stars). Worth a look, but not one to rush out to buy the first time you hear of it.5
Review for Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging [2008]:
The film starts with Georgia being her typical teenage self wanting a party in a club and a boyfriend whilst still managing to complain about her body hang-ups such as her nose, which she see's as ugly and petruding, and her boobs, which she wants to be a tiy bit bigger.
Whilst at school with her 'Ace gang' she spots a new boy at her school who she want to bag as her boyfriend. The Ace gang try all different methods to bag Robbie (Aaron Johnson)and along the way they have a few fall-outs and get into trouble but at the end of the story Georgia bags her boy at her surprise 15th birthday party.
Whilst all the 'man grabbing' is going on, Georgia also has to deal with the problem of her dad possible wanting to move to new zealand. Her dad fly's out to New Zealand in the hope of getting a promotion and Georgia thinks its great having one less parent in the house, until Jem (Steve Jones) the decorator arrives. Being a 14 year old girl she assumes the worst and then has to try and face the fact that her parents might be splitting up. At the end of the film you find out just what does happen about her parents.
An absolute must see for Family's and teenage girls.

An absolute masterpiece of British Film
This film shows the ability of Britsh film producers. With an all-star cast, including Steve Jones (Television presenter) and Aaron Johnston (Actor in TV series; Nearly Famous) you are taken into the typical life of the average 14 year old in England. The film starts with Georgia being her typical teenage self wanting a party in a club and a boyfriend whilst still managing to complain about her body hang-ups such as her nose, which she see's as ugly and petruding, and her boobs, which she wants to be a tiy bit bigger.

Review for Hancock [2008]:
Hancock, hancock, hancock...
Amazing first half of the movie, delivers what you want...will smith as an alcoholic superhero who does more damage than he does justice. However, his later reformation, which could have been handled well, pulls down the movie. A slight dent upon this flick, if it were not for the dummest plotline ever in the second Half that will bore you to no end. Be rid of Charlize Theron and Possibly Jason Bateman, and this could have been an immense movie.7

Review for Frankie Boyle Live [2008]:
Unfortunately this DVD shows he's better in small doses than in a full 90 minute show, where his relentless rants and desire to shock are very wearing indeed. Of course some of it's great, but I prefer my wit to be of the sniper variety where the comedian takes clever pot shots, rather than Frankie's machine-gun, obliterating-every-target-in-sight approach.
Another thing: do you really need to swear so much, Frankie? God knows I swear quite a bit myself and believe careful deployment of the 'F' word can really enhance a gag. Unfortunately, with Frankie's act it's a major profanity in every other sentence and it simply loses its impact. Compare this stage show with the brilliance of someone like Al Murray who swears infrequently and to much more telling effect.
The familarity of so much of this material does him no favours either. I know television exposure generates big bucks for a comedian, but for the show to work better Frankie's stuff needs to be newer, fresher, more original. I howl with laughter at his antics on 'MTW' but I scarcely even smiled watching this DVD (and none of the audience are exactly rolling in the aisles with laughter either)
One to avoid.

Humour is about more than using the 'F' word, Frankie...
I love watching Frankie on 'Mock the Week', where he's refreshingly savage, frequently hilarious and outrageously non-PC. Bring it on!Unfortunately this DVD shows he's better in small doses than in a full 90 minute show, where his relentless rants and desire to shock are very wearing indeed. Of course some of it's great, but I prefer my wit to be of the sniper variety where the comedian takes clever pot shots, rather than Frankie's machine-gun, obliterating-every-target-in-sight approach.

Delightful comedy
I've only just discovered how good this series is by watching the Second series currently broadcast on BBC1 television. This DVD has enabled me to see how the series started. It's a gem of a comedy. It's interesting to see how the three youngsters in it have developed and grown between the two series. I'm amazed at how natural the children are and how they spontaneously come out with the such divergent and funny ideas. The adults are good too.11
Review for The Complete Fawlty Towers [1975]:
I am instead going to inform you of the things that you may not already know- the quality and quantity of the extras, and the transfer to DVD.
The first few episodes do not have very clear pictures- I bought series 1 on DVD seperately a while ago and the picture on this edition is somehow more grainy.
The interviews are a good accompaniment to the boxset, with a particularly long one from John Cleese. In addition to these is information on what some of the actors have done since Fawlty Towers, which is interesting but a little boring.
I mainly bought this boxset for the outakes- these would no-doubt be a fascinating insight into the actors, and funny also! But they were distinctly underwhelming- apart from John Cleese making silly faces at the camera I only counted 3 proper outakes, of which only 1 was worth seeing.
These faults, however, are totally overshadowed by the brilliance of the sitcom and, although some of the extras felt a little rushed, the extras do make a nice addition to the boxset and make it feel complete. If you already own both series on DVD then there is no real need to buy this boxset. But if, like me, you enjoy having all of your comedy in one place, and if you are itching to experience these extras, then by all means, go ahead. At £13.48, this is an absolute bargain, and if you do not purchase this boxset I shall come around and insert a large garden gnome in you.
Good day!

Fawltless Comedy, slightly dissapointing extras
I am sure that you, reading this review of the Fawlty Towers boxset, are already well aquainted with this marvellous sitcom, and I am not going to bore you with details of the hilarity. Naturally (naturellement!) the episodes themselves are worth 5 stars apiece.I am instead going to inform you of the things that you may not already know- the quality and quantity of the extras, and the transfer to DVD.

great but not Amazing
This is a bit like St.Trinians mixed with Angus thongs - It is all about A spoilt californian girl called Poppy Moore who gets sent to boreding school ( for being spoilt) at first she hates it but then she gets to know the other girls in her dorm and the headmisteres son Freddie ( who is the amazingly hot Alex pettyfer) and changes completely when she realises her mum went to the same school - Two reasons to watch this movie 1) Alex Pettyfer and 2) the hilariose pranks she pulls to try and get out13
Review for Blackadder - The Complete Collection:
The extras? Only back and forth has any extras which are much better than the episode.
The biggest problem is the picture quality is somewhat worse than watching them on You Tube. Blurring, artefacts even pixellation absolutely appalling. If you have them on VHS transfer them yourself to DVD the quality will be fantastic compared to this abomination.
If you don't own them it is a bargain for such great comedy, just don't expect a high quality picture.

Appalling DVD transfer
The complete collection, almost minus a few sketches and trailers which could have been included. Series one is the worst of the series, but still better than most"comedy" that is churned out now. Back and forth is pretty pointless, but then it was only intended for the Millennium Dome to promote Sky anyway. The extras? Only back and forth has any extras which are much better than the episode.

I think Dara is a man totally on top of his game at the moment and this DVD proves it. You will laugh your socks off at this mans take on everything from moving house to homeopathy. His interaction with the audience is sublime and he gives a master class at thinking on your feet, where other comedians would run and hide when people shout out random things this man simply revels in it.I also loved the Dublin gig contained in the extras where Dara lets loose with some material that doesn't work outside Ireland. Ok after watching this a few times it grew on me and so i have changed my review from 1* to 4*'s.I still don't like the unnecessary cruel humour at times against the disabled and jews, for example but i if i ignore these stupid jokes i found that i enjoyed most of the dvd quite a lot.20

however my bubble has been well and truly burst!!!!!!
everything about this film was wrong. the only part that i could relate to the book was that gerry died, apart from that it had a completely different story line.
The accents were laughable, i don't understand why good irish actors weren't cast and the good ole irish charm and humour injected into it.
i feel if i hadn't read the book i might have enjoyed it but Ceceilia Adhern should be embarrassed that this poor effort is portraying her spectacular novel!!!!!!

Great observational humour
If you didn't get this for Christmas get it now - at £7 it's an absolute bargain as Live at the Apollo is thrown in too and it makes good family watching.Michael McIntyre does observational humour on day to day life with short surreal flights of fancy. He's much less surreal than Eddie Izzard but similar in terms of observational humour. So we have the gender humour - what is in the man drawer and what is in the attic that men love so much? children's first words and the one-up-man-ship around them....the banal made funny.
He delivered a long set with great energy, pacing the stage throughout. He has an infectious smile and humour and uses his body in his comedy. I see here that some reviewees have found it all too middle class...well I guess I'm his target demographic....I find him very funny indeed.
