Review for WALL-E (2 Disc Special Edition) [2008]:
Simply amazing
Ok. I know this film wasn't everyones cup of tea, (the overall pace may put some people off) but for me this was a wonderful film, and once again Pixar push the boundaries in animated film. They have created another artistic masterpiece (albeit a slightly cold and lonely looking future vision of earth). There is a long period of time where there is hardly any dialogue. For me, this wasn't a problem as I don't feel there has to be talking to tell a story. My attention was grabbed by the bleak animated world created by Disney Pixar, and the way wall-e interacted with his environment and Eve. I feel it is a very clever film-maker that can produce a film that has hardly any speaking and still grab the attention of the critics and the cinema-goers. The film definitely makes it point about waste/recycling well without losing sight of being entertaining at the same time. My girlfriend was particularly impressed with the reference to the space litter, and felt it was good that they had put that in the film. If anything I did feel the film meandered along a little bit halfway through, but this is a minor point, and I felt it got back on track strongly very well.

Is the film worthy of an oscar nod for best picture? I feel it is. I am not sure it would win but in my opinion this is the best work that has been produced by Pixar. Beautifully created, funny, thought provoking in parts and a great central character. It would be excellent if this animated gem could follow in the footsteps of beauty and the beast and be recognised for what it is at the academy awards.

Overall a wonderful film that was a joy to watch.

The worst film ever made
Now you all have seen Narnia 2 and that was abismal this film has sunk to a whole new level of pants. The Novel was or would have been 20x better then the film i grantee. I was so bord in the cinema that started chucking food (Popcorn) around the room and this old man who was around 70 by his looks and he gave me evils. Now this film is worse then enchanted and Jaws 4 and even the grudge. I would raver bye the film Doggy Poo! Its that bad I give this poor film 1/5 atchualy i must this is so bad its like watching High school mucisal! So Bad I would rather die then watch it again. I din't buy this poor exsuse for a film i was forced to see it and i really hated it and the reason i looked it up was to tell you it was abismal, so here i go! IT WAS ABISMAL

3 1/2 star for this one
I give this movie a 3 1/2 star for this one, the first 10-15 minutes of animation are hardwork to watch but when characters become"real" the story picks up and was pleasant to watch.

Magical
What a lovely film!! I got this for my 3 year old daughter since she is going through a 'fairy phase'. I have to admit I actually sat and watched the film the whole way through myself.
Magical and cute, with added humour... some facial expressions perhaps lost on a small child, but not on me!
Recommended must-have DVD for anyones Disney collection!

Review for Camp Rock [2008]:
For The Tweens With HSM Withdrawl Symptoms, Here's A New Franchise To Obsess Over
'Camp Rock' is what I would describe as a good substitute for the finished series of the 'High School Musical' films.
It ticks all the typical Disney movie boxes; shy, unpopular leading lady, hot crush (Joe Jonas), nasty blonde rich girl & a good ol' moral at the end.
'Camp Rock' is better than 'High School Musical 2' but not better than 1 & 3. I don't think there's a mere chance of any Disney musical having a hit bigger than 'Breaking Free' but 'Camp Rock' does have a few catchy tunes, the best being 'This Is Me' sung by Demi Lovato & Joe Jonas.
Ah, the Jonas Brothers. Three pop-rock virgins with a loyal tween fan base, teamed with Disney, a match made in heaven. The middle Jonas (Joe)has the most air time, the other two aren't really in the film for longer than three & a half minutes.
The stoy is about Mitchie, a 'normal' girl, who constantly smiles & she has a talent for songwriting & singing & is soon thrust into the all-singing all dancing world of 'Camp Rock'. Then there's Shane part of a band named Connect Three (real life band Jonas Brothers).
Everything is happy & merry until Mitchie becomes part of the 'popular clique'.
'Camp Rock' is good for its target audience, it IS a Disney movie afterall, so there are going to be the inevitable conveniences & morals that heve been touched upon many a film before. But the film is sweet & innocent, the underlying message is be yourself. On a more sour note, the other two unintentional messages are to get famous- be a singer, whatever. It seems the kids watching films like this & the 'HSM' moives are all being lead to believe that in order to truly be someone they have to dance, or sing (mainly both). The other message is avoid skinny blonde girls like the bubonic plague, Disney has been waging war on Blondes since Walt Disney was alive (Sharpay, Tess Tyler).
In conclusion it succeeds in creaing a film adequate for the target audience, so for all those tweens out there with 'HSM' withdrawl symptoms, this is the perfect substitute, a new leading man to drool over (Joe Jonas) & a new burgeoning pop-sensation to aspire to (Demi Lovato).

Starts OK. gets steadily worse
If you are a planet hugger and enjoy what is essentially a covert social propaganda film pretending to be entertainment, then this is for you.

I suggest that it is just another Establishment medium trying to lay a subconscious guilt trip on us all so the 'gummint' can condition us for more taxes to clean up the mess that we all supposedly make. We seem to be getting more and more of these politically correct movies.

The quality of animation is quite good at the start. It even has humorous bits. Then it is all downhill. Our family, both kids and adults, were thoroughly bored by the end. Disappointing!

Sorry, not one of Pixar's or Disney's best.

Sleeping Beauty (50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition) [1958]

Our Price: £12.98
New Price: £12.98

Review for Sleeping Beauty (50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition) [1958]:
Pink! Blue! Pink! Blue! PINK!
My daughter, like many others, is obsessed with Disney Princess and has watched this a few times now.

I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the transfer. The picture quality is superb - and the animation is the smoothest I've seen in a hand-drawn feature. It's probably wrong of me to assume that an animated film released 50 years ago wouldn't have the same level of animation quality as a modern film, and this has certainly quashed my preconceptions.

The story is simple, and the humour is basic - but there's a real charm to this early Disney film. Maybe it's the flawless animation, or the jaunty songs - but you soon see past the cheesy Prince Charming and enjoy this for the fairy tale that it is.

Review for The Muppet Christmas Carol [1992]:
Can't believe they cut the song!!!!!
I love this film but cannot believe they cut 'the love is gone'. Apparently they thought it would be too boring for children but I've been watching this film every year since I was 9 and I have never found i boring! I bought the DVD to replace my worn out video, but have gone back to the video! My star rating isn't for the film - if it was it would be 5* - it is for the cutting of the song from this classic film - its like someone has butchered the film!

Review for Ratatouille [2007]:
Not Pixar at their very best
I am a fan of most of the Pixar films but have to say that I found this one to be slightly disappointing. It is brilliantly animated,Paris looks glorious and it is well voiced. For some reason though,'Ratatouille' just didn't hold my attention and it isn't a film that I would watch again.
The highlight comes from the voice of Peter O' Toole as Anton Ego.He clearly has a ball as the arrogant food critic and all of the scenes he features in are a delight. On the whole I did feel that this isn't in the same league as 'Toy Story 1 & 2' or 'A Bug's Life'.A fair effort but not Pixar's best.

High School Musical 3 [2008]

Our Price: £11.98
New Price: £11.98

Review for High School Musical 3 [2008]:
Energetic, fun and filled with some great musical numbers
The top tapping, lyrical singing, music-making cast of East High School are back for yet another musical production. This time things get bigger with this cinema release, thus more spectacular songs, sets, and dance routines. All the familiar faces are back and this time they all come together (unwillingly at first) for their last show before they all go their separate ways.

The story is one of choice, decisions, challenges, love and friendship that face a number of the characters. It begins with an adrenaline rush basketball sequence"Now or Ever" that jumps this movie back with the awe inspiring wildcats dance / basketball choreography reminiscent of"Get'cha Head In The Game" from the original movie. The majority of the movie focuses on the relationship between Troy and Gabriella and their choices after high school - do they follow their parent's wishes and go to different universities? Do they continue to follow the same paths, or try something new? Like the other movies, this sparks off a number of duet style tracks that reflect their emotions and feelings for one another.

On another note (a musical one), the ever popular and annoying Sharpay is again once again aiming to be centre stage. She once again calls upon her twin brother Ryan to help her in her devious ways. Kelsi is back composing tunes, Taylor, Zeke, Jason and Martha are there to offer friendly advice and support, and Ms Darbus takes an intuitive stance to help support the cast.

The music and energy are all once again apparent with some excellent dance and acrobatic routines. One particular routine with Chad and Troy's - the"Boys Are Back" was my favourite in the movie. The songs are great such as"A Night to Remember" and"I Want It All", not to mention the amazing finale"High School Musical" which ends this trilogy on a happy note.

Being a fan of the first 2 movies, I think in my preference of favourites follows the movie sequences. I still find the first movie the best of all 3. The second has some great songs and overall, despite the cinema budget I think the 3rd movie, great as it is, is not as good as the other 2. Overall all 3 of these movies are some of best movies I've seen, and no matter how many times I see them, I don't get fed up with them which says a lot in the way they appeal to me and to millions of other people who adore them.

Peter Pan (2 Disc Special Edition) [1953]

Our Price: £7.98
Used Price: £7.52
New Price: £7.45

Review for Peter Pan (2 Disc Special Edition) [1953]:
charmless
perhaps one of the less attractive of the disney animations.

walt disney himself disliked the final product, feeling it cold and unlikable and to this end i have found it to be that too. despite the apparent lightness of the plot, the jollity seems forced, the characters jaded and the dialogue too upbeat and so far-removed from the original play that the real essence of that play is lost completely. disney was able to completely reinvent other works (e.g."the jungle book" animation bears so little resemblance to the book that it's almost a completely new but brilliantly inventive work that appeals to young and not-so-young alike). the play"peter pan" has been reinvented, but the new creation is an inferior piece. having said that, there will be much to entertain the younger viewers, but older ones may lose interest quickly.

to me the real star of the film is the music, which, as in most disney animations, remains second to none.

Review for National Treasure 2 - Book Of Secrets [2007]:
IT IS EASIER TO WATCH IF YOU ARE HALF ASLEEP
Have to agree with some of the other contributors. It really is terrible. I saw this on a cruise ship. Others must have known about it, as there were only 4 others in the cinema. We walked out after 15 mins. Not just because there was another helping of free food aboard, but I could not stomach any more of such a stupid story line. Helen Mirren must have been drunk to have accepted this script, or likely as it was American Film, she just accepted whatever money was thrown at her. Someone else wrote AWESOME, sigh, I can only take it, they are american. The would believe anything. Do Not waste your money on this, unless you are the sort that likes movies that you do not care what happens next.

101 Dalmatians Platinum Edition [1961]

Our Price: £12.97
Used Price: £9.79
New Price: £8.34

Review for 101 Dalmatians Platinum Edition [1961]:
The special features make it even more entertaining.

Note: This review is of the most recently issued (2008) version.

I find it difficult to believe that it has been 47 years since this film first appeared. (I also find it difficult to believe that I now have ten grandchildren with whom to watch it.) Credit the Disney organization with providing with this latest restored version a generous selection of bonus features that substantially increase the pleasure of seeing this classic film once again. They include a DVD-ROM of a"Virtual Dalmatians Game,""Op-Up Trivia Facts," and"The Making of One Hundred and One Dalmations," and correspondence between"Sincerely yours, Walt Disney" and Dodie Smith, author of the novel on which the film is based.

The basic plot involves two lonely dalmatians (Pongo and Perdita) who meet in a London park and whose owners then meet and marry. Over time, the dalmatians become parents of 15 puppies who are stolen by Cruella De Vil who is determined to make a fur coat out of their skins. That doesn't happen, of course, but younger children get all caught up in efforts to rescue the puppies (at least when viewing the film for the first time) just as they do when hoping that Pinocchio will be reunited with Gepetto, that Snow White will awaken from her deep sleep, and that Belle and the Beast will live happily ever after. In the best of Disney's animated features, there always seems to be a subtext of menace and this film is no exception. When observing Cruella De Vil's behavior, many of those in my generation will be reminded of Gloria Swanson's portrayal of Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard. In terms of quality of its story, art, and music, 101 Dalmatians deserves to be ranked among Disney's finest animated films. The special features offer an exceptional"bonus."

My only concern, frankly, is that once again, many adults who are charmed by the Dalmatian puppies will decide -- or feel great pressure from children -- to purchase one. They would be well-advised to learn all about the breed first. Perhaps the next time around, Disney could add a special feature that provides such information. Just a thought....

Cars (2006 - Disney/Pixar)

Our Price: £7.38
Used Price: £4.37
New Price: £6.51

Review for Cars (2006 - Disney/Pixar):
A very special movie...
This is one of the greatest animated car films ever made. The detail is amazing, the flies are VW bugs for instance. There is not one human being in the whole movie. Instead of using Headlights to give the cars expression they took the unusual step of using the windscreen. The effect is clever. Paul Newman was an inspired choice for Doc hudson, and the cameo of Michael Schumacher (former F1 driver) is a wonderful surprise. There are many very funny moments. It is watchable many times over and details you missed in earlier viewings often appear subsequently. The car haters, Guardian Readers, and those who dislike a simple story will be bored. But in fact the story does have a moral, and its about swallowing your pride. What is more it does have a plot with some nice twists and turns (pardon the pun!) Anyone who dismisses this film just has not got the point. For an animated film to appeal to both adults and kids alike, it has to be special. This is one such very special movie. Disney Pixar has done it again, dont hesitate to buy this DVD
