Great lens

This prime lense should be a first to buy after purchase of camera with standard lense. Great for portraits. The blurr effect is great and helps to focus on the subject.

Great value for money as compare to 1.4F which is expensive.

I use this lense all the times and second most used lense for me after standard (supplied) lens. Telephoto lense is good but I love portraits and rarely use my tele lense.

Essential Purchase For Your Camera

Been using the 'Rocket Air Blower' now for a few weeks and it's absolutely superb!

It completely blows all traditional blower brushes out of the water. The concentrated blast is extremely effective at shifting even the smallest of particles from lenses, mirrors and focus screens.

If you change lenses a lot, you know dust will build up over time inside the camera. Considering how cheap this product is, it will more than pay for itself after a few goes.

Using this blower is a lot less hassle than using swabs and/or solutions to keep sensitive parts of your camera clean. Yes, if you have let gunk build up inside your camera such as on the sensor, then cleaning with swabs might be the only option, but this blower really does help keep your camera clean inside and out.

This is an excellent product. You will not be disappointed.

simple yet effective

Bought this for my 450D and it does exactly what its supposed to. Not taken any pics where its UV filtering propeties will come in useful yet, but its primary job at the moment is to protect the len.

Its got threads on its outer aspect to allow the attachment of further filters or hoods if you want.

At £8 its a bargain, its for sale in Tottenham Court Road at £30!!! What a rip off!

Worth the weeks thought of buying it

I thought about buying this for some time being abit skeptical, but reading the reviews i decided to buy it being only a fiver. I should of bought it sooner! much cheaper then a dedicated macro lens, and being a photography student and working as an assistant photographer time to time it was well in my budget and im very glad i bought it. i will always carry it around with me with the new Hama track backpack i bought on here too.

A great companion for the Nikon D40/D40x

A great lens for a tiny price! This is an excellent lens to really take you a step further into the world of digital SLR photography.

I've owned the D40 for about 7-8 months and I finally decided that I'd like to be able to pick out features and have a bit more flexibililty with zoom. So after reading around I decided upon this for it's ability, but mainly becasue of the price tag! A quality lens for this much money is a nobrainer. The VR is essential, especially in low light situations and i've got excellent results with it.

Works OK

It's a lot of money for a bit of plastic that must have cost all of 50p to make. However if, like me, you have need of a lens hood for a 75-300mm canon lens, then this is your baby.

Good value lens

I got this lens for Christmas to go with my 350D. I'm not much of a photographer but I'm trying to improve and this lens gives a lot of flexibility to the camera. I use it mainly for portraits and taking pictures of landscape and architecture from a long way away. With the portrait you can get a good focus on the face and cut out everything else; with the buildings and the landscapes you can take advantage of the wide view and perspective you get when you spot a shot from a distance and also get a bit closer on the same lens as it has quite a wide range of focal lengths.

The lens is easy to fit and exchange and autofocus works well. It is quite a big lens and on the EOS 350D the camera becomes quite front heavy. However, if you are photographing slow moving objects or have a tripod it is no problem and I haven't experienced any larger amount of blurred images than I got from the kit lens and so I have put this down to my own lack of ability.

In summary if you have got a digital SLR lens kit and you are wanting to learn to be a bit more creative with your photograhy then this is a good choice.

Didn't fit properly

I returned it and got a replacement but the new one had the same problem - when attaching it to my Canon G9, it failed to click into place. I got a Stanley knife and increased one of the notches by around 0.5mm (I worked out which notch by comparing it with the standard G9 lens surround ring. So now it works fine and I am happy, but this really shouldn't have been necessary - where's your quality controller, Canon?

Wow Outstanding

Just received this item. I have a fairly basic Eos 300D bought in Oz. I was told by a neighbour who is really into cameras that the key to success is to invest in the glass. This demonstrates that. The lens is the bees knees. I have only used it a couple of times, but already I know it will be the one left on the camera. It is extremely versatile for the amateur. Picture quality is excellent with little effort required.

It cost more than the camera initially, but it was worth it.

Congrats also to Amazon for their total delivery process in the Christmas period. Particularly like the ability to track the order via City Link.

Good All In One

Outclassed in my opinion by the new Tamron 28-300mm VC ( not as sharp, though autofocus works better ) but still a great all rounder that allows you to go out all day without carrying a bag full of lenses.

Recommended.

Tiffen UV Filter

I bought this for my Nikon D40 (excellent value from Amazon) but decided it was a false economy. There is little point in buying a quality SLR and then putting an uncoated filter on the supplied kit lens, in low light this filter produces reflected images of any highlight in shot, in some circumstances it will do the same in daylight. Of course it protects the front element of your lens and prevents dust intrusion, but you can't just fit and forget as there are some circumstances when you would need to remove it.

Nikon 70-300 AF-S VR - Cracker of a lens

I'm very impressed with this lens. Before I bought it, I read reviews on various websites, some saying it was brilliant, some saying it wasn't very sharp, too big, too heavy etc.I took the plunge and bought one and haven't regretted it. I've used this on d40 and d300 bodies and it works superbly on both.

The autofocus is very fast, quiet and accurate. The VRII system is also very impressive allowing very slow shutter speeds - I've had sharp, handheld images at 1/30 sec at 300mm which would be completely impossible without it. As for the size and weight, for a lens with a maximum focal length of 300mm with a built in focusing motor and an optical stabilisation system it's not really a problem (the canon equivalent is the same size but 100g lighter). The build is also fairly solid with smooth zoom and focus rings. Mine has had it's share of knocks and bumps as well as being caught in rain and has carried on unaffected (note that the lens mount has a seal round it, helping to stop rain from seeping between camera and lens). I can't really complain about sharpness either, the only times I think the image is a bit soft is at the longer focal lengths which could as easily be due to bad panning technique, relying on the autofocus too much in poor light etc....

For a 300 mm lens at this price, it's got genuinely useful features, it's compact, not too heavy and impressively sharp - Fantastic value!

Very Odd

I expected this lenshood to fit onto the adaptor ring by means of a bayonet fitting, the way other EF lenshoods by Canon are fitted. Instead the adaptor ring which screws onto the lens has a circumferential groove into which 4 teeth in the rim of the hood engage in. These teeth are retracted by means of finger press pads on the sides of the hood for removal - ALL VERY FIDDLY INDEED AND TOTALLY OTT

Fits the lens perfectly, has a nice fabric feel on the inside for that pro feeling to it.
It isn't overly big, nice size and shape.

Does the job.

great for concert photography

I have recently bought this lens being a recent convert to Canon, and is already one of my favourites! I specialise in music photography, which means high ISO, no flash and low light conditions.

This lens comes up trumps in all departments and for small / midsize venues, Crisp, fast and solid, this really is the only lens you will need.

Sony Lens - Wide conversion X0.6/ 30MM Silver

This is a very good lens! 0.6x wider is a lot of diffrence for the handycam users.

Use with 4/3 lenses Olympus e 410

A good product does exactly what it says it should do. Also fairly cheap way to offer protection to the lense, when the cap is off.
