Review for The Dark Knight (2 Discs) [Blu-ray]:
I was really quite disappointed by how little entertainment I got from the Dark Knight. The plot shuffles along, then there's a massive stunt, it shuffles some more, massive stunt (you get the idea) and culminates in a bit of an anti-climax. Not easily entertained by stuff getting blown up alone, at no point was I on the edge of my seat during this film. Too much going on visually, not enough in the a story (if there was one). Biggest let-down since the utterly dire Transformers, I am genuinely sorry to say. I really wouldn't watch it again, in stark contrast to my Casino Royale disc which is almost worn out.
As for the Blu-ray presentation, personally I don't like the switching between aspect ratios. Why it couldn't be in 2.40:1 all the way through? What's the point of releasing films in 1080p / 24 FPS"cinematic" format and doing things like that?!

Dark Knight = Rhyming Slang
...Maybe that's a bit harsh, although maybe not considering how much hype surrounds this film."Best film ever" they said. Much to my chagrin I missed it at the cinema, figured owning it on Blu-ray would be the next best thing. I only wish I'd rented it first. Had I not been told at every turn that I would love this film, I wouldn't have bothered with it. It looked to me like just another Batman film.I was really quite disappointed by how little entertainment I got from the Dark Knight. Angus thongs and perfect snogging is slightly spoilt by it's title. I know this is quite a minor bug but I know someone who wasn't allowed to see it because of the title. Overall this is a heartwarming chick flick that is very very funny and perfect for girls 12 - 16. Fab! Five star! I love angus!4
Review for Hancock [2008]:
It is a good movie, but if u sit all the way through it moaning and complaining saying"that was unrealistic" and"thats daft he would be dead there" then you certainly wont enjoy it. Just take it for what it is, its a fictional story about a guy with superpowers whos limitations are endless. If you must, dum your self down a bit or act like a young boy when watching it, then you will take it for what it really is.
All in all, a good film, Smiths personality really suits Hancock, the majority of people will enjoy a Will Smith movie anyway so i reckon you will like it.

Review for The Wire : Complete HBO Season 1:
No ifs, no buts...The Wire is the most captivating TV show ever!!!!
The Wire is utterly captivating, well written, brilliantly produced and simply the best TV show ever. A big statement i know but having been introduced to The Wire two months ago i am now on series 4 (there are 5 in total) and totally obsessed and unlike many TV dramas that loose their plot after one series, this just gets better and better. The characters evolve, the plots thicken and the waters get even murkier between what/who is right or wrong. I have constant debates with friends about which series is best, who to love and who is good and which characters currently precide in my top 5 (currently: Lester, Carver, Cutty, Boadie and Clay Davis just for his one liner). The way David Simon and Ed Burns explore each character makes you feel like you know or at least understand them and even though the plot is set in Baltimore, the issues can be related to many cities. Unlike many other TV shows on today, The Wire makes you think and challenges you. Since i started watching it, i have brought all the books that accompany the series (The Wire: Truth Be Told) and previous works by David SimonThe Corner: A Year in the Life of an Inner-City Neighbourhood], [[ASIN:1847673112 Homicide:]. If you should only buy one thing, buy The Wire. You won't be disappointed and i can only say how envious i am of what awaits you. ENJOY!!!7
Review for No Country For Old Men [2007]:
The abrupt ending threw me for a loop the first time as well - annoyed me and frustrated me.... but hell it also made me think about what I'd seen and that's something not many movies do - sending you off with a friendly cinematic, cathartic pat on the back. And the more I thought about it the more it seemed right, to tie everything up neatly at the end would undermine the very idea of movie itself.
Be prepared to think about it a bit.

Diefies moral reading
I think (though I don't want to speak for anybody else) that the main reason some people don't like this movie is because it defies traditional moral and movie logic - there really is no moral compass here. What happens to every character is almost totally random, good deeds often results in terrible consequences and and bad deeds can go ahead unhindered - in this sense it is much truer to life, but it makes disturbing cinema where we are so conditioned to see heroes be pushed to their limits but ultimately triumph and evil doers be punished by those who suffered most at their hands. Themes of chance and determination/fate and the crossing over of unavoidable lines of force or action are the themes of this film it seems - made most vivid in the coin toss scene with the shop assistant. The abrupt ending threw me for a loop the first time as well - annoyed me and frustrated me.... but hell it also made me think about what I'd seen and that's something not many movies do - sending you off with a friendly cinematic, cathartic pat on the back. Rubbish
I wish there was a 0 on the scale for reviews - this is really one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I really like chick-flicks and have seen tons so thought this would be good. I love the idea of the movie but the acting is shockingly bad. Butler's accent is rotten and there is not a hint of chemistry between him and Swank which means you don't really care much when he dies. The story is great and with better acting this could have been an amazing movie but sadly no. One to be avoided at all costs.

Review for It's A Wonderful Life [1946]:
Jimmy Stewart is just perfect for the role as George Bailey, whose world looks like its falling apart when he loses the money of his company and decides he would do everyone a favour by committing suicide. Along comes his rather bumbling guardian angel - Clarence - to show him what life would have been like if he had never been born. George eventually realises that he has had a positive impact on so many peple in the town and has the real love and respect of all those around him.
Made in 1964 it has a timeless quality about it although it is also a film of its period with the small town American feel about it.
A quite stunning film - a real tearjerker - as I write this I feel the need to watch it again tomorrow. Please do yourself a favour and buy this and watch it EVERY December!

No singing please
This is an excellent twist on the very familiar 'Pride and Prejudice'. Just one thing spoils this dvd release. In the second tv episode, Jemima Rooper, unable to play piano, entertains her hosts by singing 'Down Town',(a song her Mother used to sing to her when she was little, and bear in mind this was early 1800's). On the dvd, this two minute scene has been cut (a copyright issue so I'm told), quite making nonsense of the scenes just before and after. Otherwise this is excellent, it is well thought out and acted, and the actors well chosen. It is of course much more ammusing than P&P. Pride and Prejudice and time travel in one neat package.14

BEST COMEDY IN QUITE A WHILE
IN BRUGES turned out to be one of the best comedies in recent years. Finally you get great black humor instead of stupid high school sex jokes as in American Pie. This film starts out slow but hits hard. Thank God the director of this film had some sense and delivered some old school film making here. No MTV generation bang em up, but an excellent film which I can only higjly recommend.15

Brilliant
This series is so, so good! I was worried that after really enjoying the first series that this wouldn't be as good but if anything it is better! I think that it is one of the best dramas that I have seen in a long time. It is really gritty without going over top and becoming unrealistic. Excellent.16
Review for Jimmy Carr In Concert (Live) [2008]:
First a word of warning: this is not comedy for the easily offended. This is not family-friendly. As Jimmy himself states on the box:"It's rude, crude and offensive but those aren't the only reasons you'll enjoy it."
He's right, too: beneath the risque jokes and smutty humour is a comedic sensibility and intelligence handled by a professional whose tongue is sharper than he dresses. Jimmy knows what he's doing, knows how far he can push it, and takes great delight in seeing his audience squirm. In the hands of anyone else it would just fall apart.
It's hard to say whether 'In Concert' is better or worse than the rest of his DVDs. It's business as usual: some stand-up one-liners, some sit down read-aloud moments, audience participation: indeed, the only new thing brought to the table here is a spot of jazz midway through. Again, Jimmy admits that on the cover:"This DVD is exactly the same as last year's except every single word." Same format, new set.
And why should he change it? It's a winning formula. Rest assured, if you like Jimmy Carr, you'll be right at home here, and you won't be dissapointed. Brilliant.

Jimmy Carr is the ultimate comedian. Nobody else can pull off so many one-liners, rip into hecklers or shave closer to the funny bone than Jimmy. Review for Lost - The Complete Fourth Season [2008]:
But when the"rescue party" arrives on the island, they don't seem to know who any of the survivors are and aren't that interested in rescuing them. Instead, newcomers Daniel (Jeremy Davies), Miles (Ken Leung), and Charlotte (Rebecca Mader) seem to have an agenda of their own. An agenda that involves Ben (Michael Emerson). And when Sayid (Naveen Andrews) and Desmond (Henry Ian Cusick) make it to the ship, they make a surprising discovery.
As if all this weren't enough, we have the character flashback and flash forwards. It's always obvious which one we are having. And they always provide the most tantalizing clues. In this case, the trips forward in time reveal that only six of the castaways make it off the island. Who are they? And what happens to the others?
Since the producers have now set an end date for the show, things are moving forward with precision. There are no weak episodes here. Several episodes answer long held mysteries, in fact. Of course, other episodes proceed to give us even more mysteries than we had before. And don't you dare expect anything less than a cliffhanger for the season ender.
I can't praise the excellent writing without mentioning the equally great acting. There is not one weak link on this show. And with an ensemble this large, that's saying something. I am drawn into the show every week and can't wait to spend more time with these wonderful characters.
Thanks to the writer's strike, there are only 13 episodes this season. But don't let that stop you from enjoying the drama and mystery of one of the most addicting shows on TV.

Could Rescue Be in Sight?
Since crash landing on the island, all the survivors of Oceanic flight 815 have wanted is rescue. And now they think it has come. A boat and a helicopter are waiting not too far from shore. This is thrilling news to Jack (Matthew Fox). Locke (Terry O'Quinn), on the other hand, is convinced they all need to stay on the island. And so the survivors are split into two camps. But when the"rescue party" arrives on the island, they don't seem to know who any of the survivors are and aren't that interested in rescuing them. Ideal entertainment for a rainy Sunday afternoon
I loved this subtle but at the same time poignant period drama series. It brilliantly portrays the lives of serveral middle class women of various ages who have too much time on their hands and therefore any trivial event in the small town becomes a welcome distraction and the subject of gossip. The arrival of a young, handsome bachelor doctor as well as the building of a railway line through Cranford bring romance, excitement as well as jealousy and anger to the female population. There is a lot of humor in this series but it is gently ironic and subtle reather than 'in your face'. Very well acted and enjoyable to watch!

Review for The Lives Of Others [2007]:
The film's motifs should not be transferred to other east european communist societies ,as the poignancy is heightened by the knowledge that not everything in the DDR was bad.
The acting is outstanding, particularly the disenchanted and disillusioned Ulrich Muehe, and the pace of the film augments the sense of regret which permeates the story.
Although many reviews regard the film as evidence of the failure of a misguided social and political experiment,I think it should be seen as a sad acknowledgement of how human weaknesses destroy the hopes of a society.
The central problem is not that the Minister is a Communist, but that he is corrupt and abuses the power given to him.
This is a phenomenon well known to citizens of western countries ,and Muehe's character is acting as we all should, against the destruction of moral values which politicians bring on all of us.

Review for Juno [2007]:
It is fun, sassy, and the characters are complex. It resists simplistic moral judgements. The acting is great, if you like quirkyness better than realism. In the same vein as other indie-mega-hits like miranda july's 'me and you and everyone we know' but i think less cloyingly and studiedly cuckoo than that movie.
Really enjoyable. Borrow it off your mum.

The Dark Knight----Masterpiece
This films has had it fair shared of hype recently along with the publicity and stories in the media surrounding Bale and Ledger. Hype, more ofter than not, has given fans false expectations before seeing these 'blockbuster' movies. However The Dark Knight truly is an exception. With a cast overflowing with talent, huge budget and fitting Director this film comes together like a perfect recipe. Ledger excels as the Joker and even when I thought Jack Nicholson could never been topped I stood corrected. In my opinion this is the best film of its genre and I cant remember the last time I came out of a cinema wanting to go right back in and watch the movie a second time. A Masterpiece.
