Very good but more off-track details please!

This is a good overview of the 2008 season detailing the on-track highlights of each race well. The commentator is great too, he should commentate on the live races! The special features are a nice addition too.

The reason I give this DVD four stars, however, is because it would've been nicer to have more interviews with the drivers and team personnel, and have more information about what happened off-track at each race. They started to do this well with the 2006 Season Review but have neglected it a bit with this and the 2007 DVD.

waste of money

Really poor picture quality. And complete lack of any worthwhile extras. This is really below par. Don't buy this unless you want to be disappointed.

Disappointing

I was very disappointed this DVD has no footage whatsoever of Joe Calzaghe fighting as a professional.

Nice to see interviews with his mum (she never usually gives media interviews), as well as his sister and girlfriend.

The film starts to drag about halfway through - you get a bit sick of talking heads praising Calzaghe (great though he is).

I also agree with the other reviewer - this DVD needed subtitles to understand Enzo Calzaghe. Sadly the DVD doesn't have them.

Duke MotoGP 2008 DVD - watch it on BBC iPlayer instead!

I saw the BBC coverage of the 2008 Laguna Seca race and was looking forward to sharing this with my dad over Xmas in the Duke 2008 review DVD.

However, on a initial viewing I'm not going to bother. The sporadic commentary is amateurish and uninformed and the editing is woeful.
In an action packed race they opted to spend the time set aside on multiple replays of crashes and shots of garage crew looking bored (for no apparent reason).
The battle between the top two was just plain confusing and managed to lose any sense of the race long drama that actually occurred. In addition there was no clear picture of what was happening with anyone other than the leaders. I appreciate that this is a seasons review and they have to cram in a lot of footage into 180mins. But this formula of - string together a few crashes (repeat at least twice), add a couple of overtakes, plus some random pitlane footage and then quickly add a commentary over the top - is just lazy. It appears to have been rushed out in time for Xmas.

I'm sure I've had a good British Superbike DVD from Duke before (2006?) but this effort means I won't be buying from them again for the forseeable future. Disappointing.

Cracking Calzaghe DVD

Being a huge fan of 'Super Joe' and having watch all the other DVDs with him i had to get this one and , like all the others this was fantastic, packed full of fights and action it really gave the best possible story of where Joe came from and how far he has come. With so many fights and at over 3 hours long this is the most comprehensive story of Joe, would recommend to any Joe or boxing fan, well worth the watch go buy it!

DO NOT BUY THIS DVD

The content of this dvd is absolutely fine. The problem is that the second disc, the one where we actually won the slam, can't get past the menu. And that's on three separate dvd players. And after ordering a replacement disc from Amazon. Hopeless. I'm off to get a refund. Avoid!

Goal smashing!

Even if you're no fan of Liverpool and you like all the colours apart from Red, you can't ignore the fact that over the last 10 years, Steven Gerrard is one of the most powerful midfield players on the face of the planet, ever. This DVD just proves how devastatingly effective he can be.

Think of all the best strikers, Shearer, Owen, Rush, Van Nistleroy (?), that have graced the English Premiership and yes, they can all score amazing goals. But, they would be lucky to do 4 or 5 screamers in their career. Stevie G though smashes goals in from everywhere, any angle, direction, left foot, right foot, headers, free kicks, open play, time and time again. It's all here and when you see great goal after great goal, you realise how special this player really is.

An absolute must for any Liverpool fan and a fantastic watch for anyone who's not. If you think of any other player's 100 goals DVD as a great film, Gerrard's is like watching the footballing equivalent of The Matrix. You may not like the content but you can't deny it's non stop action all the way through.

It could be bettered though. I was hoping for more content about how Gerrard became the tour de force he is now, early footage, progression of his career, etc. Then, there's the near misses, the disallowed goals, comments from fellow professionals about what they think of his technique. Even the goals, many are shown from just one angle when you know there must have been 10 cameras there. The goals are great but the coverage could be more comprehensive. If ever they decide to release this on Blu-Ray, it'd be a great way to improve what's already a good product. Does it deserve a blu-ray release? Seeing as someone's got to completely obliterate goals, blitz fellow professionals in open play and put the ball in the back of the net 100 times, I think this will be the best 100 goals DVD for a very long time. Hence, if ever there's ever going to be a 100 goals Blu-ray disc, it's got to be this one.

I'M SORRY BUT THIS IS LAME

I will be the first to admit that Murray Walker is a legend, but this is lame, who the hell wrote it for him. The whole thing is terribly staged, especially the ending, made me feel sick knowing what was going to happen. yuk, awful writing.

And then there are the crashes, the main reason we buy these things, almost every crash on here I have seen on these DVD's for the last 15yrs. If your a fan of motorsport then you will know how many amazing incidents there have been in the last few years, especially in F1, Moto GP and WRC. Very very very few of which are on here. This is a pathetic way of making lots of money very cheaply ripping off old dvd's and placing Murray Walker at the centre of it, very sad indeed.

Some of the best bits but very bitty

I received this DVD as a free gift with a Top Gear magazine subscription. I wasn't really expecting it so it was a nice surprise, and these are the bits of Top Gear I like the most.

"Hurrah", I thought,"surely they will have put the challenges back together so I can watch them straight through" (normally these challenges are shown in two parts in the episodes). Wrong! As everyone else has said they are split up. However, the solution is simple, grab some willing friends or family members, set aside 3 hours, pile up some drinks and nibbles, and do the DVD the justice of watching it right through.

I should clarify that the editing and cinematography of the films themselves is first-rate, there are few TV programmes this well put together, and this is a real showcase of the TG team's efforts (and there is plenty more in the TG archives). But the main point of breaking the films up on the TV is to keep the viewer watching through the bits in the middle - this is hardly necessary when I own the DVD!

One thing to note on the content - the limo challenge doesn't include the first half where they build them (including Clarkson driving half a Panda), but there is an eighth challenge in the shape of Hammond driving a Porsche Cayenne against a Red Devil parachutist.

Indispensable souvenir of a classic match.

Probably the greatest Wimbledon Final ever, maybe the greatest match ever. Relive this titanic contest in which Rafa, soon after winning the French and at the peak of his form, eventually prevailed after 5 dramatic and gruellingly long sets to win his first Wimbledon Men's title and virtually ensure that he would soon overtake Rog to become the World's number one ranked player.

Pure Clarkson, no substitutes accepted

Compared to his great work in Top Gear I haven't been completely impressed with his other DVD's. I enjoyed this one for several reasons. Firstly, they're clearly using the Production Crew from Top Gear, which is especially evident in both the music and the high-quality camerawork. There are also some amusing Top Gear-style bits. Such as a pretty pathetic race between a G-Whiz and an Alpine.

One of my favourite parts is a race between Sabine Schmidt and The Stig - something I'd been hoping they'd do on Top Gear for ages now. It's also littered with Clarkson's opinions on different supercars. It was Clarkson's commentary that made me pay more attention to cars, so I really enjoyed it here.

In summary, it's a pleasant way to pass the time until Top Gear returns for another series. If you're an"Eco-Mentalist" (to quote Clarkson), or you jsut can't stand the man, then don't buy this DVD. If you're a fan of Clarkson's work, then I recommend it.

I've waited so long for this one.

This is what I've been waiting for for a long time. I've got the one for the 2005 six nations and I've been crossing my fingers that they would release one for 2008 as well. Its the sort of thing that no Welsh supporter can ever be without. I'm 15 and I've supported Wales all my life. These DVDs are the sorts of things that I'll be showing to my children and my children's children, to show them how our great country achieved what we all thought to be impossible (twice!!!!!!).

Stay tuned though, because come this time next year and there might even be a 2009 version of this dvd. And that's me being realistic. We've had a great Autumn and we beat the Aussies (and the Canadians, and 6 points off beating the springboks). We've also been crowned 5th on the IRB world rankings, and if you wanna know who we'll be facing at the World Cup in New Zealand in 2011, visit the IRB website.

Buy this DVD, its an essential that you just CAN'T go without.

Could have been so much better

This is a copy of the 1996 video, which was updated in 2001 with the missing years action and again in 2008.

Are we really interested in a couple that met at the match and got married we want to see the football. Simple things like the name of the match appearing on the screen when it showed the goals would have improved things and it doesn't even show united winning the world club championship in 1999 in Tokyo. Should have been so much better.

Worth renting, not worth buying

What can I say - its gritty, production values arent as strong as Long Way Round or Long Way Down. They are all clearly nuts in a good way.

Not much else to say - worth renting for a winter night by the fire but wouldn't buy it (though Long Way Round and Long Way Down are worth owning!)

Duncan Ferguson - Everton Legend

Big Dunc is a legend at Everton. Nobody messed with guy as he was hard as nails - ask Ferdinand, Ince, and the many other players he knocked black and blue. This DVD will highlight his greatness.
