Doesn’t do what it says on the box

This soft ice-cream maker was a gift for our son at Christmas. We thought it would be great fun having soft, whirly ice cream and a novelty when friends came to play. However, as another reviewer has already said, it was too much hassle and the results were not just disappointing, they were appalling. Having left the thermometer in the freezer overnight to check the temperature of our particular freezer, the canister then had to be frozen for 24 hours. Then we realised that the ice cream mixture had to be chilled overnight, too, but you mustn’t ’overfreeze’ the canister which makes the whole process a logistical nightmare. I know that many ice cream makers require a canister to be frozen before use, but this just became unmanageable. When we finally got the whole process working and tried to make the ice cream, the results were awful. The instructions said 20 -25 minutes for the ice cream to be ready depending on the temperature of the canister this could be slightly longer. After 25 minutes there was only cold, runny slush; after 35 minutes it was cold, icy slush and after 45 minutes the mixture refused to come out through the tap! We never saw any ’soft’ ice cream and our son was very disappointed - we did try several times!
I always thought Breville were a reputable manufacturer but I now know better. I have contacted Breville via their customer services option on their website and they haven’t even bothered to reply.
I can not recommend this product at all unless you are a masachist and enjoy putting yourself through torment and agony with no tangible result (and an inconsolable child with yet another Christmas present that failed to deliver the goods).
I will seriously consider whether I buy any Breville items in the future.

I have bought the bread bin, calendar and salt pig from this range and wanted something else and these little egg cups were suprisingly sweet and good as, well, egg cups! The inside is smooth and shiny and the outside is matt - a nice little detail. I recommend you adding these to your Nigella collection.

Sorbets like you have never tasted easy to use as expected once you get hooked you need to get yourself a good recipe book but the one that comes with it is okay for starters. Oh and one other thing you have to put a small amount of alcohol inside the two bowls if you want to use the removable smaller one, this is to stop them freezing together (you can use salt water but it warns to be careful with cleaning or else rust!
I am running out of Vodka! (Going to have to get some surgical spirit)
Now thats a thought surgical spirit sorbet!

A LOT OF CLEANING, DISMANTLING, AND THE THING DOESN'T EVEN WORK PROPERLY!

Dear oh dear. My husband bought me this ice cream maker for Christmas and it has given me nothing but grief. The ice cream doesn't pour out like it should - it freezes at the bottom hole too quickly, so the rest of the ice cream that is turning in the basin is soft serve, but it can't come out of the bottom because it's rock hard! The parts fit in very well and slot into place easily - but of course, they slot OUT of place easily too and the amount of times things have popped out (especially if I'm picking the unit up to move it) and crashed onto the floor has just driven me crazy! It's a pain as well to have to individually wash each piece, as when (and if) the ice cream does come out of the hole, there are several pieces that it touches, which all need dismantling and washing. This is a high maintenance ice-cream machine and really not worth the money. Buy a cheaper one, have your sprinkles, nuts, etc, in a separate bowl and sprinkle it with a spoon, and just have your ice-cream the easy way.
