Sony DVPFX850B Portable DVD Player

This unit has the build quality you would expect from Sony, and it feels like a serious piece of kit. The screen is one of the best available with its 800 x 480 pixel resolution. I would estimate the useful viewing angle to be around 90 degrees. The battery clips on at the bottom of the player, and is not required if plugged in via the mains adapter or via the car plug. It also has a"video in" socket so you can use it as a monitor. The USB connection can be used to access thumb drives, but only JPG and MP3 files can be played from it. It will not play movie files from the USB port. There is an optical-out audio link, but Sony did not provide the cable for that. The accessories that are included: Remote control, AC power adaptor, 12 V car cigarette lighter adaptor, and stereo audio and composite video cable, and carry bag. Sadly, there is no s-video or component video output on the player. A waste of the 12 bit video DAC in my opinion. The sound from the inbuilt speakers is barely acceptable, and you will need to provide and use your own headphones or external speakers. There are 2 headphone sockets so you can listen with someone else. The carry bag feels cheap and tacky. It almost feels wrong to put such a nice player in it! Mine was a tight fit. They should have made a better felt-lined bag.
Even with it's faults, this is still one of the best disk spinners out there, primarily thanks to its awesome screen.

PROS: Swivel screen transforms from"laptop" mode to"tablet" mode.
800 x 480 screen is amazingly clear.
Good build quality.

CONS: As with most portable DVD players, not all content is presented in full screen. Unless it is 16:9, it will display in"black box" with black bars all around. 4:3 content displays with black bars on either side. High price.

Brilliant value!

Comprehensive set of accessories. Amazing sound from speaker!!! Everyone with an ipod should have one of these - look at the price!!!!

Worth Every Penny

This fits to the windscreen or to any flat smooth surface, and has to be totally flat or will not create a vacuum and stick.

Having said that, once it is stuck it is sturdy and holds any size iPod, PDA, Mobile phone really well.

The sides work on a ratchet system and you press the button on the back to release them to their greatest width. Then you place in your iPod, push one of the sides closed and the other will close at the same time, until they are holding your iPod nice and firm. Solid as a rock, well designed and a must-have!

I bought a cheaper one, was disappointed and then thought"blow it" and forked out for this. I would buy one as a gift and I would definitely recommend it.

Fast service

The item arrived very fast and was in good order. once fitted I shall have peace of mind when reversing. My car is very high at the back and I cannot see lower obstacles.

Big sounds, little price

This player is fantastic ! Very easy to use and lovely to look at, without being overly"flash". Having the front aux point for your iPod, means quick connection and all your favourite tunes at your finger tips, without having to keep loads of CDs in your car. Even with the volume on full blast, the sound is crystal clear, even if listening to the radio! Delivered straight to your door, and half the price of many large chain stores, this is a definate bargain.

Item not as shown

I purchased this item through Amazon the other day and have just received a car charger from Techsplosion. Although the picture on the website clearly has Nokia branding and the invoice that I have received identifies the product as a Nokia DC-4 the product itself is not a Nokia product. The charger I have received is marked only with the number 6101 badged on it, its packaging directs the purchaser to an unregistered domain name.

In addition to the apparant contravention of the trade description act, this product does not charge my Nokia N95.

Car charger AND firewire cable in one.

What a neat design !

My IPOD came with a USB cable (that doubles as an electricity-socket-based charger) but not a firewire cable. The Logic3 Car Charger for IPOD takes the same USB idea from Apple, but uses a firewire cable that slots into a car-charger adapter.

I use the firewire cable in the PC and keep the car-charing adapter in the car, taking along my IPOD and cable if I need to charge the IPOD along a journey.

Very pleased.

Low Price but Excellent Results

I am glad some of the negative reviews did not put me off. I have found this system easy and reliable, no operating problems and excellent results. The instruction booklet is not the best, but just play with the thing for a while and everything fits into place easily!

Garbage

Works reasonably well for about ten minutes theh theres some sort of build up static in the head as the speaker starts popping and an annoying hiss builds up and one of the channels goes all muffled....think I should have got one of those fm transmiters instead

Worth Every Penny!

I bought this to fit my Nokia N95 to my windscreen for use of the satnav download.

Its brilliant, fits the Nokia N95 perfectly, but don't be mislead by the reviews saying they had to hack bits off to charge it. I just attached it to the windscreen upside down! The feet to stop it falling out normally are short enough to still open the phone and if you use the spring edges to grip it it doesn't fall out either.

I stuck it on yesterday and now refuses to move!

Brilliant buy, I would advise getting it if you're using the satnav download!

Handy in-car kit

I just got this today and it's a very neat piece of kit. Essentially it's a Bluetooth headset but as a loud speaker instead. I used to have a headset but because I wear glasses it was too uncomfortable to leave on my ear all the time, and when I didn't wear it all the time, when someone called they would have given up waiting by the time I got the thing comfortable.

The HF-300 is very easy to setup, and if you have a Nokia phone (I have an N95) it works really well with the voice commands (something else I didn't find very good on other phones I've used). All you have to do is hold the call button, say the name you want to call (which is repeated back to you so you can tell if it's wrong - although it's been right everytime for me), and in a few seconds it starts dialing. The sound quality is fine and it comes with a clip to attach to the car's sun-visor and an in-car charger. It's a shame there's no mains charger included but if your phone has the same charger that will work fine as well. It supports a long list of the newer Nokia phones and I would assume it would work with any Bluetooth compatible phone.

The only drawback is that it's a little expensive, but worth it if you do a lot of driving. I bought it from Accessory Shop on the Marketplace - I ordered on Thursday night and it was delivered on Saturday morning in perfect condition, so I would definitely recommend them.

Sounds fantastic, great connectivity, too bright!

I agree wholly with the other three reviews posted already.

This is a well made unit, easy to install sounds great, and the connectivity is tops!

However I do have one gripe with it, and it's that it's just too darn bright. There is a function to dim the display screen slightly but the rest of the unit still lights up like the Blackpool Illuminations. This obviously isn't much of a problem when driving during the day, or in urban/lit areas at night. But as soon as you start driving on unlit/rural roads at night you reaaly notice how bright it is. Put it this way, it's so bright that if you put your hand in front of it whilst driving at night in an unlit area there's so much light that it'll reflect off your hand and noticeably illuminate your dash-board.

There may be a simple solution to this issue and I've just not found it yet.

However apart from the brightness, excellent.

EXCELLENT PRODUCT

Easy to install, Easy to use, Saved me once already and i've only had it a day!! If you buy one i do warn you though set it straight away to city mode or you'll end up with it going off all the time. Once on city mode it works like a charm.
Loads better than road angel.
