still a 2nd gen shuffle

I have an ipod shuffle and the quality of music is good but I don't see a difference besides a lighter shade of blue here.

Great piece of kit

Arrived on the 12th September. First impressions box looks impressive. The touch did not disappoint. This latest version has a slimmer profile, a speaker, external volume control and comes with version 2.1 although I still had to update the firmware.

Very similar spec to the 1st version. Easy to use and loads apps to download. The internet browser is easy to zoom in with and connecting to home wifi worked fine. Loads of applications to add from itunes, lots of them free. Downloaded a video and that looks great too.

You do need to connect the touch to a PC with itunes first as you cannot just connect to wifi and use it without sync'ing it first.

Well worth the money a great gadget you will have fun playing with for a long time to come.

Battery life - Had it on all day today listerning to music and connect to my home wifi. Lastest about 13 hours before warning that the battery was down to 20%. Obviously if I had turned off the wifi it would have lasted longer

IPOD NANO- NO THANK YOU

I purchased the new ipod nano at the end of march, so have now had it 4 months. In that time it has'frozen' on a number of occasions and then righted itself a day or two later, which is really unacceptable considering the reputation of Apple.Now i hasten to add the Ipod doesn't function at all and this in only 4 months, a fact i find really unacceptable.

Warning EU volume limit

I bought one of these new ipods today with the full knowledge that it did have the EU volume limit, so on that note i cannot complain that i didn't know what i was buying.
It should be said however that i had to find this information out from online sources, nothing official from Apple has come to light.

Alot of people will be using their new ipods and think nothing of the volume levels, I myself had numerous ear operations when i was a child, the consequence of that is that i do not have brilliant hearing to begin with.

For me the EU volume limit was slightly worse than i imagined it to be, it is about half as loud as my US nano (3g) Although i never listen to my 3g full volume i do need more than my current UK nano's full.

As i say this is a very personal review, 2 stars because of this volume limit may seem extreme to alot of people, but for my needs it is the difference between keeping it and sending it back.

I;ve been comparing the sound quality to the 3rd gen nano and i have to say i think it is slightly inferior, i cannot entirely quantify the difference only that it does sound different and less desirable in my view.

The ergonomics of the 4rth gen IMO are not nearly as intuitive as the 3rd.

Volume cap aside i have to say overall i think the 4th gen is a side step at best or a backwards step in regard to general functionality.

I recommend anyone with hearing difficulties to look into buying their ipod from an american seller on ebay etc at least that way you will be able to find a volume that is right for you.

great when it works

Was bought for me Christmas 2006, all went well untill July o8.Would not turn off even when trying to reset unit. Next morning totally dead , would not even charge or be recognised by my pc.This nano has never been away from my workout station, never dropped or missused, so why????????
Have to go for another, trying for Nano 3rd gen, as I have only just bought expensive dock, hope i have more luck this time.
I would recommend 100% if it had been more reliable.

Fantastic

This little thing rocks despite it not being as small as the previous ipod the screen makes up for that!! Everything works so smoothly and it feels so good to hold. Plus the added shaky shuffle thing that rocks. The movies on it look amazing and the sound is of great quality plus the amazing battery life 24 hours with music and 4 hours with video. I would recommend this to anyone and its definitely best to fish out another £40 because the 16gb really makes a difference especially for video.

Almost perfection

This is a cool piece of technology.Its small,slim and has an excellent display.Pictures are excellent.I have not experienced any scratches yet unlike some other reviews.Would of been 5 stars but for the battery life(which is not 14 hours as stated).I get up to 10 hours maximum.Also would of been nice of apple to supply an AC adaptor so I could charge the ipod from the mains rather than having to charge it through my computer.

Apple Products are unreliable and poorly made

I would never buy another Apple product after my experience with Ipods. I have had one for one year that I have gotten replaced 6 times, and after buying an extended warrenty they informed me that the warrenty was not registered on the computer (by the fault of the APPLE store I bought it at) and thus they could not find it on their system. Their customer service is not helpful, the products are extremely poorly made, and the only reason they are successful is because they have become a trend, not because they are a worthwhile investment.

Looks ain't everything

Do not buy the iPod nano because it looks good! buy it because u want to listen to music! Because Apple are so smart! they'll let u splash out on the new, coolest gadget and then 5 months later they'll will make a better one. They've made new ones that look like the iPod Mini but now called the iPod Nano. iPod nano is a good gadget its still beautiful lol! its very thin! and just NICE! lol! but buy it straight from Amazon I don't want people getting messed around with different buyers! because this is a good product. if u want more music to listen to and a sensitve touch pad u'll love it! White is nice Black looks nice as well.
