Review for Freecom Databar 8GB USB2.0:
Plugged device into USB port. First impression OK (so far so good), so in order to get going, I started the software - only to be confronted with the 30 day trial or buy option costing £15. Clicked 'later' to trial package to take a look around to see whats was on offer. - To be honest, wasnt impressed with the software and there are better 'FREE' programmes out there. Therefore, decided to format stick into NTFS and start from stratch (why not? the sticks mine!)
BIG MISTAKE - after format, the stick is now only 8mb in size, and having read some of the previous reviews here (and internest advice), decided to re-installed the 'Carryiteasy' software back onto the stick. This done, the stick is still only 8mb in size and the reinstalled 'Carryiteasy' only recognises the stick as 8mb - not happy.
If I had trialled for 30 days, would I have been committed to buy the software? (partition installed) as formatting's not an option. Surely I'm the one who should decided what is software is on my stick and not some 3rd party. (was no metion of this when i bought it)
Anyway - probably end up wasting a few more hours on it before the product either gets flushed down the toilet or returned.

Review for Kingston Technology 8GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive:
Being USB2, this Kingston flash drive is fast enough for my simple home/work file transfer needs, e.g. 30 files at 130 Mb copy in 20 seconds, and 230 MP3 files at 600Mb copy in one minute 30 seconds [and delete in just 22 seconds]. This is twice as fast as my old 4Gb traveller version [green one]. For transfers of over 1Gb of data I'd write a DVD-R/RW though, and for regular transfer of data this size I'd use my bijou 60Gb external 2.5" laptop hard-drive anyway. I don't need ReadyBoost stuff for Vista - I just add 4Gb PC system RAM running at full bus speed instead [some say these RAM disks work with Vista ReadyBoost for them, some say it doesn't - but at the speed these flash drives run, who cares]. The 8Gb's black/white design does mean its also less easy to spot lying about than it's lower capacity green/purple cousins. The end cap clips on firmly though, so you should only loose it when the drive is plugged into a PC (and then it will be lying somewhere nearby). I keep the drive in its original blister pack (cut off the sealed edge carefully), and jam it all in the outer pocket of my backpack - which gives extra protection from dust and shoves, plus it makes the drive easy to find when ferreting about. For under twenty quid, this is a great product, just a shame it looks rather dull in it's black/white colour scheme compared to others in this budget Kingston range.

Review for Kingston Technology 8GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive:
The best USB flash I've owned - I don't need secure features and this one's faster than the 4Gb version
I only buy cheap branded USB2 flash drives for under £30 and don't need security features. In fact if it's lost I am happy for someone to find my name & work phone number so it can be returned - although I do write all this on the white surface of this USB stick. This 8Gb one feels very solid, looks good (but I far prefer the green 2Gb and purple 4Gb versions). My 4Gb version came with a classy clip on string loop that you can attach to stuff, but this latest 8Gb version didn't, which was a disappointment. However the attachment point is flimsy plastic so I never use it that way - and don't expect this cheap non-metal cased drive to survive long on your key-ring anyway. Safely stored during transport, three [4Gb] flash drives from this range have worked for me & the kids for over a year, so it's also reliable - but naturally you can't treat it as a safe backup device for crucial files. Being USB2 flash it's also slow compared to system bus speeds, and only suitable for transferring a small number of files (say up to a few 100Mb per day) to and from work, although expect the 8Gb space to clog up over time. The 8Gb RAM itself should last between 12 and 50 years [about 100,000 cycles], but the mechanical USB connector is prone to failure anytime. For older USB1 equipped PCs install a Belkin 5-port USB2 PCI card (it's 40x faster and large file transfers just don't seem to like USB1) - these Belkin USB2 cards works fine with this flash drive in my two 7 year old PIII & Athlon [1GHz XP] PCs. This 8Gb traveller flash drive sits at the bottom of Kingston's range, and they designate it as `consumer' rather than 'corporate/government' quality, i.e. it's not as well built, secure or as fast as more expensive Kingston flash drives. It still comes with a 5 year warranty though.Being USB2, this Kingston flash drive is fast enough for my simple home/work file transfer needs, e.g. 30 files at 130 Mb copy in 20 seconds, and 230 MP3 files at 600Mb copy in one minute 30 seconds [and delete in just 22 seconds]. Review for SanDisk 4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo:
I will say normally these cards have proved no problem to me, well the ones from reputable sellers, High Street retailers and Amazon.
On arrival I immediately tried to use the card in various devices such as PSP, Camera, phone and PC. Firstly, the magicgate, which is normally available on Sandisk cards technology was non-existent therefore the card was not possible to be used in a PSP, this raised some suspicion. SO I thought oh well I'll use it in my camera and phone instead, partly as I couldn't be bothered at first to return it. How am I foolish to think it would work.
The card was so unreliable (very unlike my other SANDISK MS Pro Duo cards) as it kept on crashing and losing my data. Each time i tried to reapply my data no matter which device i used it kept on saying the card is not formatted. How can this be when I have already used it, albeit unsuccessfully.
I subsequently got on to Sandisk customer support whereby they asked me for the serial/model numbers, which I add is normally readable on authentic products, that I could not read properly. The rep also asked for further information pertaining to what else was printed next to the model and serial numbers. After I gave this information I was informed that the item was counterfeit. After to'ing and fro'ing with pictures of the card and the dodgy looking packaging its lack of authenticity again was confirmed.
I have used Sandisk products for many years and all of my cards have a hologram sticker and legibly printed serial / model numbers along with 'MADE in CHINA' printed. On the fakes you will simply get badly printed text with 'CHINA' but no 'MADE IN' part or even a hologram.
Save yourself much pain and many headaches not least forgetting the hassle of returning the item (AT YOUR COST) and buy simply from a reputable online sellers like AMAZON or Marketplace sellers who haven't received poor feedback for supplying suspect goods in the past. Any cheaply priced cards are most likely to be very suspect and possibly fake. YOU CANNOT BUY AUTHENTIC PRODUCTS AROUND 50% OF THEIR NORMAL COST.
If you are given a reason of 'the product is an import' for the lack of a hologram or suitable packaging in addition to poorly printed text don't believe it as Imported goods are no different in style or quality to normal UK retail packaged editions.
Don't accept any excuses your data (Pictures etc) and money are worth more. The product images above will give you a clear idea of what you should be getting for your money.
I have purchased too many Sandisk and Sony cards at low prices now to think that it is possible to be supplied an authentic product or at least something reliable. Whether it is Amazon Marketplace or feebay the too good to be true prices are a waste of time and no longer for me! I will champion any day Sandisk as they have always been A1 but only if the products are genuine.

Plugged into the machine maybe half-a-dozen times in three months, and now I've lost about 600 pics.Luckily 90% of them were also on a CD, but I've lost a few for good. Mega diassapointment at Christmas.
Dear xxxx,
We are contacting you regarding the A-Z claim you lodged with Amazon about the above product.
I am sorry to hear of your problem. Firstly, I wish to make it clear that we do sell genuine Sony memory media.
We do also sell generic pro duo memory sticks that we import from China. These usually have our own logo on them but our supplier sent our last batch with the Sony logo on both the packaging and the memory sticks themselves. We have told them that we do not want them with the Sony logo as they are in effect counterfeit and misbranded.
We do not however sell these as Sony as this would be wrong.
We are aware that there are some sellers including some well know on-line retailers that do sell these as Sony so it is a case of buyer beware.
As already indidcated, we do of course stock genuine Sony memory media. In your case, because of the Sony branding being on the packaging, we have mis-picked your item during picking & packing instead of sending you genuine Sony.

Small, elegant and brilliant
I needed a flash drive and this little thing looked and sounded the business. Bought the one with 4GB and must say that it really is fantastic. I have all my personal files backed up on it using the synch manager - which by the way could not be easier to use even if they tried. It really is portable and compatible with any computer. Went to visit a prospective new client. I got the contract and needed some files which they had (approx 1GB). The guy suggested e-mailing them to me but since I had this little gizmo on my keyring I just pluged it in and got the files. Job done and everyone saved time. I can tell you the guy was really impressed!I now have a philips DVDR which has a USB port. Wanna watch a movie tonight. Review for Freecom Databar 4GB USB2.0:
One major problem
This product is as beautiful and well built as all these previous reviewers have stated. And likewise, it's great value, and once installed very easy to use. The major hiccup is that it requires a system restart to complete installation, which is very annoying for trying to share data around an office, or with friends/ colleagues. It's one of those things one would have hoped the designers and manufacturers would have recognised and resolved- most USB drives I've come across don't need a system restart to get going. So only a 4/5 from me. Could do better,18

What's there to dislike about this item? It's a cute and nifty little device, and does exactly what it says on the tin! The cap stays on quite firmly when not in use, and it's small, light and fast, so get one for yourself to see what your missing.
