Although this monitor has no DVI slot it is well made and gives good colour. it seems to be quite easy to set up and is ideal for Flight Sims as well as other situations. the wide screen takes a little getting used too but on the whole a bargain

Quality Monitor

We have spent a long time looking at monitors and reviews and finally decided to purchase the HP w2207h, and having had it for a couple of weeks, it certainly hasn't disappointed. We use the monitor mostly for work, internet and digital photography so are rating it on this basis. We do not do any gaming or use the speakers as we already have good surround sound speakers, so cannot comment on these. The monitor looks great, is sturdy, the settings easy to change and the display is crystal clear, both for text and photos. We have experienced no dead pixels or backlight bleeding.

We were a little worried about buying a new monitor at all, having read negative reviews on all the monitors we were considering. In particular, we were looking at the Samsung SM2232BW Pebble, LG L226WTQ and Acer P223W and based on seeing these in shops and reading reviews the HP came out top for what we required. We also looked at 19" and 20" monitors, and were initially worried the 22" might be too big or the text would appear too small at the recommended 1680 x 1050 resolution, but we had nothing to worry about.

We have had no problems with light reflection off the glossy screen (no windows or lights directly behind our monitor) and no issues with dust collecting on the surround, which other reviews have mentioned.

It did take a little while to set up completely. We had to update our graphics driver software (ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro) in order to be able to change to the recommended resolution setting. We then installed the software that came with the monitor, to find the menu functions would not work properly, until we updated this software to the newest version. We also had to buy a HDMI to DVI adaptor (£5) as the monitor only has HDMI and VGA outputs and our graphics card DVI and VGA; not a major problem. Following this there was a wizard that was easy to use to change the display settings to your taste, after which we also reduced the brightness.

We haven't used the screen in vertical position, although before setting it up we tried adjusting to this position, which was very easy.

Amazing display

This display is superb. I bought one when i got my Dual 2ghz Power mac and i could'nt be happier! The flat display is very crisp and sharp and works great with the look of osx. The 20" is perfect for the creative proffesional for photo editing and video work. The wide display also gives plenty of real estate for your palettes.

The look is also perfect. The silver anodosed case looks great and suits the G5 perfectly. It is expensive but if your serious about the quality of your images then this is well worth the price!

Excellent Monitor - 22 inch HDMI

I was looking for a new monitor to replace the 15 inch model I have been using for years. After reading articles on the internet and viewing different models I diecided to opt for the HP w2207h.

Apart from its aesthetic appearance the picture quality from the display is very good and has built in speakers to the rear. The audio from the speakers is ideal for a small room, however, as I have my own set of speakers connected to my pc this is not an issue.The screen can be viewed horizontally or vertically by twisting it and the stand can be raised up or down to give height variation. You can also tilt it back and forward depending on what angle you're viewing it from.
Connections are via VGA and HDMI and there are 2 usb ports on the side, (handy, as I have my scanner connected to one). There are several different viewing modes to choose from - movie, photo, gaming, text & custom.

From the HD port on the display I connected mine with the included HDMI cable to a Philips DVP5960 HDMI dvd player and the results are impressive. I'm currently using the VGA port connection to the computer, although I will be purchasing a DVI adaptor and cable shortly to enhance gaming, but this is not a major concern. If you want to connect the HDMI port on the monitor to you're computer then you will have to invest in a HDMI to DVI connection cable, also available from Amazon, just make sure your graphics card is complaint. Instructions are in the form of a large sheet showing diagrams as a step by step guide.
For a 22 inch monitor the HP w2207h is an excellent display and I am pleased and impressed with the quality and features it offers. As I've already said, I have both my computer and dvd upscale player connected to it.

Good monitor for the price

Same LCD screen as the Acer P223W, only difference is heh asthetic appeal. This screen comes with a matt black or silver finish whilst the P223W comes with a glossly black finish.

Overall - big screen as you'd expect with 22", nice colour reproduction and deep blacks. If you care about how your monitor looks go for the P223W, if your in an office or don't really care - go for whichever is cheaper, the picture will be the same regardless.

Great monitor

Bought this 22" monitor as a replacement for a Samsung 19", the difference in scale is the most striking thing when first using it. The monitor itself is extremely slick, black with a very slim bezel. The 'movie' mode jacks up the contrast to the advertised 5000:1 ratio with pretty amazing results. The whites and blacks are incredibly vivid. The monitor only has standard vga/dvi inputs and not a great deal of extra features but is pretty much industry leading in terms of response time/ contrast ratios and is an excellent buy.

Excellent value

It cost less than £8.50 (including postage), came within a couple of days and does just what we want. We use it to connect either a computer or an Xbox 360 to an LCD monitor and it works perfectly. It's a little bit bulky for what is really just a two way switch and it needs a third VGA cable to connect it to the monitor but those are just nitpicks. It saves us having to unplug cables or use two screens so it's all good.

Impressive monitor

Ordered this monitor on a Friday and it arrived the following Thursday with free Super Saver delivery, excellent service yet again from Amazon.
For the price (I paid just less than £111), I am very impressed with the build quality, it is well designed, looks good, the controls are nice and solid and menus easy to use. It certainly looks and feels like a more expensive monitor and there are no dead pixels. The sound from the inbuilt speakers is tinny (to be expected) but ok for general computer use. If you want good sound then just plug in some good external speakers which is what I did.
This is a great monitor for the price and worthy of 5 stars in my opinion. If you buy one you won't be disappointed!

It's really rather good

Came yesterday. Yes it's enormous. Looks wonderful (it's even cool when it's switched off).

I've tried it with Zbrush, Modo and Rhino 3D. All brilliant. If you do any 3D modelling it's a blast - so much screen to play with at 1680 x 1050. Zbrush particularly feels like a different program at this resolution.

I tried running Quake 4. Truly cinematic.

I suppose if I wanted to quibble I'd say that the buttons are a bit plastic. It would be nice if it dipped as well as tilting. Also the CD supplied attempted to intall Acrobat 4. Also the Viewsonic birds logo is rubbish. But no, seriously, buy one. 5 stars.

Amazing Display

After using my Sony SDM-HS73 17" monitor for around 4 years, I felt that an upgrade was needed, especially since my 13" macbook only supported a 1024x768 resolution on that screen (blame the mini-DVI-VGA adapter). After a long search for suitable 20+ inch widescreens my choice was narrowed to the Apple 23" HD Cinema Display and the BenQ FP241W 24" display.
The BenQ, despite being a similar price and having more inputs (HDMI support, DVI, VGA etc.) through many of the forum posts I read appeared to cause problems when connecting to any games consoles or freeview boxes, so the apple display won out. The initial problems with this 23" model of this screen (Pinkish hues, uneven backlighting etc.) appear to have been ironed out by the time of writing, as this monitor appears flawless- I cant even see any dead pixels as reported by other users.
The screen itself feels massive, after calibration (only available on a Macintosh computer, PC users will have to use freeware software to make any changes other than brightness) the colours look rich and strong and the view range appears amazing, the only fault with this monitor really being the price. I paid approx £530 on the Apple store with educational discount, a price which is reasonable but could be better. That aside, this is an amazing monitor and something which I shall be treasuring for a long time.
A quick note for anyone connecting a Macbook or any other Apple laptop- the full 1920x1200 can only be achieved by using the computer with the laptop screen off, which can easily be achieved by attaching an external mouse and closing the lid, clicking the mouse to wake the computer up and then opening the laptop. Once again, this display operating under it's full resolution and calibrated is a very beautiful piece of kit and all in all, an amazing display.
