Finally opted for the iAudio D2 8GB over the Creative Zen 16GB

Received the iAudio D2 8GB the next day after posting as promised. The player is all I hoped it would be. I cancelled an order for the new Creative Zen 16GB after considerable delays and ordered this attractive player which seems to better the Creative Zen in a number of areas:
a) has Better sound output
b) has Better battery life
c) has In line encoding
d) has a DAB radio (works out of the box beautifully in Manchester)
e) this model supports SDHC cards out-of-the-box without a firmware upgrade... tried it with an 8GB Transcend SDHC... no problems
f) easy conversion of movies to iAudio D2 format with supplied software
g) drag and droppable with 2 drives showing up in Windows Explorer (1 for internal and 1 for external memory)

The touch screen is very responsive and the overall build quality is good. Having talked constantly about MP3 players to colleagues at work, I believe this player is the best out there at the moment and provides no fuss, easy plug-in features for ultimately portability. I already have filled my 8GB SDHC card with feature films to watch on the move and I only got this player 24 hours ago.

Exactly what the doctor ordered. Can't recommend the player enough...as a previous iRIVER and SAMSUNG owner... this brand pushes the bar up still further again....great stuff iAudio.

Great while it lasts!

After less than 2 weeks of careful operation it has suddenly died - completely - without obvious cause or warning. It refuses to respond to anything. If you look elsewhere on the internet (and I wish I had) you will find many similar stories. On a positive note, whilst this player works, it's an utter joy! In many ways it is better than an iPod. But, only buy this player with a warranty (i.e. no ebay purchases, unless they're very cheap!) and be aware of the risk you're taking. My next is an iPod Nano, with a solid warranty ...

not impressed

Tried this as a christmas present for my son. after a frustrating week of trying to get the computer to recognise the device, can only assume it was broken. May be a problem with Vista even though customer support said not, but kept directing me to their XP downloads. Returned to Amazon and replaced with a Sony walkman, which loaded immediately and was really simple to use.

Excellent product with no problems at all...

I have had this samsung mp3 player for several months after upgrading from a 1gb to 8gb for more memory space.I use the player everyday sometimes for several hours at a time,I have never encountered any significant problems at all, it has never once crashed, battery life exceeds what it states in the manual and I have never encountered any sound fading.The one problem I have encountered is the mains adaptor I bought when plugged into the mp3 comes up as fully charged on the player and refuses to charge - this may be the chargers fault.The speaker sounds good in an enclosed room but not out doors.All in all an excellent player with great features and very easy to upload with tons of memory - I doubt you will be dissapointed.

Sony Good Job

Something I was looking for. It have all the features one can wish for from a 100£ small boom box. USB feature is the best one as I just have 22 different albums in it and still tons of space left in 2GB sony usb memory device. It plays it on and on with you need to interfere. Good sound quality.

1) it only plays sony usb ( as usual)
2) only supports mp3.( still any format can be converted to mp3 but if you are techi )

DA1103 is better?

I bought the upgraded DA1103 (from Comet) and don't recognise most of the problems.I paid £29.95 which I consider to be reasonably good value. If feels solid and good quality. It still uses 2-AAA batteries, but I've found they last quite well if you use alkalines. I bought it to listen to radio on my frequent coach trips from Somerset to Shepherds Bush (QPR). Yesterday, despite our terrible performance and result against Derby, the radio performed well on the coach trip back via M4/M5 and I could listen to several stations clearly all the way. It was not so good on the trip down via A303, but this route has poor reception on all radios I've tried (BBC earn your licence fee by improving this). It exceeded my expectations in this regard and if you do lose stations you have the option of listening to your music on the MP3 player. I would agree that the problems are due to transmission rather than the radio, but I was happy with what I got and would recommend it.
Improvements: 1) Include FM reception 2) increase MP3 capacity to 2.0 gig or allow it to accept plug-in USB memory sticks.
