Bad Sound Quality

I finally bought the 80gb iPod after my Sony MP3 player started to play up. I had to exchange it within a week as the sound was distorted even after changing my earphones and changing the EQ settings (which are rubbish as well). The second one arrived and I had exactly the same problem, so that went straight back too. I have since looked at other reviews of this iPod and found that other people have had similar problems with the sound too. I'm still looking around for another 80gb or more MP3/4 player but will definitely stay clear of Apple iPod.

Not bad At All

I have never owned an ipod before but a friend of mine does and i was quite impressed with hers. I decided to get one myself recently mainly because of going away next month and wanting to take music with me. Personally the only downside for me is having to use itunes. I have never used itunes before and neither had my partner so we have spent a lot of time messing around with it. But i think if you are familiar with itunes you won't have a problem. I like the size of it as i was looking for something compact. It is about the size of a credit card and almost as thin. The price is good for what you get, i was always put off in the past from getting one because of the price. The sound quality is great and you can get quite a lot of music on there, i have 76 average length albums on there. The labelling of the music isn't perfect but personally isn't an issue at all. It also has the odd extras on it, i quite like the games, especially the quizzes which i had found strangely addictive.

All in all i think it is a great product

Could be slightly better

This is the best small MP3 yet, it can hold millions of photos and music and is very helpful as a personal organiser but ofcourse somethings do have their downsides. For people who like to store everything on their Ipod that they have such as videos, movies it is not that great even with an 8GB it is still to small for me. Also after 3 months of use it froze which began to frighten me a bit as I had owned it for only a small amount of time. Apple do not provide regular updates very often as I have had 2, the first being: 1.1 and the second being 1.2 with a distance of 2 months and will probably never receive another update again as of the slow speed Apple take to create new updates. Other than that the Ipod Nano is a great MP3, with long battery hours on Music and reasonably long with videos, The screen being of High quality for Images it is the best yet.

Don't buy if you have a Mac

Do not buy this product if you have a Mac as the support team only have Windows tools to fix problems. I bought a new map but after installing it the device is"unable to store settings: file access error". The only solution from TomTom is to plug the device into a Windows PC and run a Windows exe. So I'm stuck with a device that either won't work or works with an out-of-date map. AVOID.

Its the same as a NDSTT card, Ive got both and they do do the same. Out of the two the TTDS card is cheaper but has no disc to load the programmes. But you have to down load the NDSTT programmes from the web site. Its easy to do.Both are good cards and worth every penney. Look them up its a must.You need to get a micro sd card as well 1 or 2 GB are fine.

Amazing!!!

Wow, i love this ipod!! it replaced my old 3rd gen 20gb one which broke after being chucked on the floor... what an upgrade!! iam really impressed with all the layout features and all the colour of it makes it feel really special. The sound quality has improved aswell - if i am not mistaken, i adjusted the sound equalizer to"loudness" which means the headphones that come with it are not actually that bad!! They were actually a pleasant suprise with more base than the ones that came with my 20gb 3rd gen ipod (ok they're not great but they're fine for general listening). The response time when changing track is also faster than my old one. It also beats the value of any of it's other competitors.

Just.... Not an iPod

Just bought this item from another retailer instore.... Will be taking it back tomorrow and getting an iPod

Sonys way of putting music on to the Walkman is slow at best even when run on a Top-spec Alienware PC, like mine. The Mp3 player is not bad but i find my thumb getting sore when i am looking through all of my songs, unlike on an iPod where you're thumb just goes round, simply. The screen is reasonably bright and clear, but watching videos can be difficult... if you can get any on the Walkman as it has such a tiny memory. Battery life isn't great. I happen to know an iPod classic 80GB will go up to 40-50 hours in some cases.

Overall, reasonable Mp3, there is a lot worse MP3's that you could buy, but its one biggest fault is that it isn't an iPod

Carry one less item and get an iPhone

An iPhone has a built in iPod touch. I have one that is unlocked and sim free;

I have also used an iPod Touch in the past. The only flaws are: the back scratches very easily. Also there are no volume BUTTONS on the side which is a pain.

i love this ipod so much it is so worth getting!
the games (addictive) and videos will keep you entertained for hours, and itunes offer so so many free podcasts that are actually fun and interesting.
took no time at all to sync to my ipod library and although ive put all my music and over 100 episodes of different podcasts im only just halfway over the capacity, which is superb.
i bought mine from pixmania and everything was excellent: actually arrived one day before expected!

just upgraded

having just received this this morning from another website just thought i would put a little review down... well the only thing i wished for was more space on my pink 2nd gen nano and was sorely tempted by the new nanos when they came out at the end of last year but was sad they didn't do pink well what a surprise when i saw them now available in pink and snapped one up.......am really pleased it is not a vibrantly pink as the 2nd gen but still pretty smart...coverflow is good and the whole software is slicker and seems more advanced i have put 1 movie on it as a trial just get some shrinking software from the internet and it is amazing the picture etc fab and TINY!!and have just downloaded bomberman from itunes it's fab too all in all am pleased and have just ordered a case as am sure has the potential to scratch the back of it is so shiny and want to keep it that way.i would recommend

Neat hardware spoiled by poor software support for PC users

My previous player was a 2 gig Zen V which I bought because it allowed me to convert all my old jazz tapes and vinyl discs etc to digital files on the PC hard drive along with my CD's. It's the only player that lets you do this, and I liked it a lot. Having run out of memory I decided to go for an 8 gig player and chose the new nano because of its slim case and larger screen.
First impressions were very favourable as it is very slim and seems well made. Although the quick start guide is very skimpy and basic, I soon had itunes downloaded and the musical contents of my hard drive into the player. Watch out though, as Apple try to get you spending money in their shop straight away and start to hustle you for a credit card number, saying you cannot be properly registered without it.
Getting photos - I have more than 100 selected ones - onto the player was slightly more difficult but installing my movie clips from Digicam files became a major problem. Unhelpful error messages said this nano could not play them. After printing out the 72 page handbook and spending hours in 'Help', I fixed the problem by using the 'advanced' itunes settings.
Music sounds very good indeed on the little earplugs, having clarity and depth. My zen sounded similar by engaging the 'classical music' equaliser.
The screen is bright and clear but don't get carried away. It has only gone from being tiny to being small and although just about OK for viewing 30 sec movie clips, it is not practical to use for full length videos etc, without prodigous eye strain.
Photos were a big disaapointment as Apple have not included a zoom function. This is really crazy as it badly needs it. Pocket digicams always have it for viewing photos as does the Zen, making a great feature of it.
The cover flow function is a nice idea but I could only get 7 covers to download from itunes, out of 200 albums, making the function quite useless. It simply would not allow the transfer of the album covers from Windows media player into the itunes library. It became quite clear that the detailed instructions I followed for many hours of trying , applied to Mac computers only. By contrast, the Zen showed all the album covers with no problem. Apple say that you will get 100% Album cover support if you buy them from the itunes store!!!.
Ratings. Because of the above software difficulties , lack of a photo zoom function and no album cover support for PC users, I can only give it 3 stars which is a shame. I would like a player of the same physical size sponsored by Microsoft instead of Apple, then I could be sure of better support using my PC.

Bit of a hypocrite but...

After my Sony NWA 4gb started to lose its charge after nearly a year of use I had to go back to the store and get a replacement however after seeing the iTouch I was seriously tempted and went ahead and got one. Now the thing is I have hated iPods and in some ways still I do - simply because of it looking like a fashion accessory and most importantly the sound quality being not so great especially for bass. I have owned a nano and many other different brands of MP3 players and so far all have had their ups and downs with the Sony having some kind of background noise which can be a little annoying but has the best bass.

The earphones I am using are the top of the range SHURE SE530 I paid a whopping £330 just for the earphones but with iPods they dont sound very good simply because iPods audio processor is not that great compared to other mp3 players on the market.

But I am not here to slate this iPod no beit the sound isn't fantastic it gets 4 stars, the amount of technology in this is amazing and is extremely slim but weighty product is outstanding.

I have owned the product for a few days now from writing this and am loving the ability to just search for a wireless connection and log into my Hotmail or Facebook or pretty much any site! The only setback here is the browser does not seem to support some codecs found on the web such as Flash so when going to some sites with video it does not work whereas funny enough its got full support for Youtube - even has a direct link on the menu!

If you love features and love your gadgets and like to be able to do more than just play music you will love this.

I am going to get a pair of Sennheiser CX300 earphones as I know the bass is extremely good wtih iPods but do NOT get the CX500's they are not as bassy and cost a lot more.

Also from all the software products I have used I have to admit iTunes is the best, make an account, put your card details in if you are missing any cover art just highlight the tracks and away you go and its FREE! iTunes is very very easy to use and very fast! Much better than what Sony has to offer that is the terrible Sonic Stage.

Superb product and very well made but seriously considering getting a back and front screen protector.

Lastly be warned that this product will not work with most headunits in your car even with a USB slot it will show up as USB device not recognised I think because the iTouch has an operating system since my music was in MP3 and this iPod does not work with the Xbox 360 either which is a shame.

Might try this with AUX input on my headunit on my car and run it off that way hope it works!

Much more useful than I thought it would be

I got this as a gift. I already have a 60 GB hard drive mp3 player with a colour screen, and I really thought this would be a silly toy. I would not have bought it for myself.

However, when I started to use it, I was surprised. It's tiny. It can clip onto whatever you're wearing. You don't have to think about the controls.

The net result is that I have had it with me constantly. I'm listening to a lot more music now, even in places where I wouldn't normally have taken my larger player.

Audio quality is very good, and the iTunes software is very user-friendly. I like it.

not quite perfect

Ok I have only had the Zen for a few days but I know I have made the right choice with buying another creative mp3 player this is my 3rd one and they just keep getting better. The pervious ones were a muvo slim and Zen micro photo.

for me the physical size of the player has always been more important than the storage capacity and the Zen is pretty small the large face is the same size as a credit card and it is less then a centimetre thick it is also light enough that you just don't notice the weight in you pocket.

The sound quality is good but I suspect that it will be improved by some better headphones the pair that are shipped with the player are cheep I doubt that they will last long.

The screen while being small (but large for the size of the layer) is clear and has adjustable brightness. It is ok for watching short videos on but I would not want to try watching a movie on it.

The buttons are small like the rest of the player but are easy to use even with my large hands. The buttons are raised slightly from the surface of the player and there is a positive feel to them when pressed.

The menus on the player are easy to navigate and use. I had no problems with finding were things were without reading the manuals or quick start guide.

The bundled software is slightly different to what shipped with the Zen micro photo I had previously. but for the most part identical so I had no trouble using it the only new feature I have found is the video converter which I have experimented with and is pretty basic you need to have the video as any file your PC understands and then it converts it in to WMV format at 320x230 resolution my PC is pretty quick but it still took about 5-6 minutes to convert a 25 minute. Also it will not rip direct from DVD you will have to do that your self first and as the player can handle DIVX video it reduces the need to use the bundled converter.

Things that do bother me about the player are that it does not come with a case all my previous Creative players have but not this one this makes me worry about scratching the screen. I know that cases and screen protectors are available but I do not see why there is not one bundled with the player.
The front surface of the player has a high gloss finish on it not normally a problem but it shows up finger prints like you wouldn't believe meaning you have to give it a quick polish before letting anyone look at your shiny new player.

The only thing really left to test is the battery life. It is advertised as 24 hours audio or 5hours video but only time will tell how accurate their claims are.

On the whole I an very pleased with it and will continue to recommend creative MP3 players when ever I am asked (this happens quite often as I am the tech guy in the office)

An expensive Paperweight

Oh the hours I spent, trying to get this thing to work! First, the software repeatedly failed to install without errors. Then, the actual player failed to show up as a device. Finally, the unit went completely dead. This is the second (and last) time I have bought a Creative product and the second (and last) time I have been let down badly by a complete failure to operate.

No wonder people buy iPods.

iPod videos - Please read before you purchase

If you are planning on using your iPod for videos, I recommend you read this first.

I just purchased two new iPod Classic 160s, one for me and one for my wife. I've used Gen 5.5 models before and was VERY happy with them. I
loaded my new Classic with all my videos and used my iPod AV cable (that worked with my older iPod) to connect it to my TV -- I received one of the
nastiest reality slaps ever. When I went to Videos > Settings > TV Out, I couldn't activate the"TV Out" by switching it to"On".

Why?

The reason is because Apple has purposefully locked out this setting and the only way to actually switch this setting to"On" is to connect it to a
new device that has an Apple Authentication chip built into it, e.g. an Apple Universal Dock, along with a cable kit for the Universal Dock.

What does this mean?

Well, it means that Apple made a MAJOR change to their new iPods and didn't tell a single soul (INCLUDING THEIR SUPPORT STAFF!) that you would
no longer be able to watch iPod video on your television -- unless you rectify the problem by purchasing the new chip equipped docking stations,
which apparently don't come cheap at all.

It also means that you are all going to have to lug around a Universal Dock and completely different cable kit from what you were using before
if you want to watch iPod Classic videos on your television.

Not an ipod, but that's ok

Bought this for my mum and It's small.. really small. Big hands and fingers stay away.. you'll have trouble with this.
ok, so it's not fancy but sound has been surprisingly ok (im used to an ipod) and it's easy for my old mum (a technophobe) to use and the bright display is very good as she can read it easily.
Battery life IS poor yes. 3-4 charge gives about 3-6hrs play and if you leave it turned off for a couple of days and come back you'll mostly find it needs charging up, if not right away then quite soon....but, you didn't pay £100 for it and if all you need is something cheap, light and simple to listen to on the bus or train to work or out jogging (you won't feel it running, it's just too light) then go with it.
By the way, i don't know if you are supposed to, but i have charged this using the ipod mains charger and it's hasn't destroyed it.. yet. :)

Not even close

I have owned various MP3 players over years, going back to the Diamond Rio. I currently own an iPod touch.
Today I bought a Zen for my five your old son to watch video on when we travel. The deciding factor over a Nano was the ability to use smart media memory, but having used the Zen for an hour or so that doesn't matter - I hate the thing: the button feel is poor and the UI is laughable, and what's the deal with the 4 inch USB cable?
Out of the box the Zen isn't usable under OSX (I had to use some pathetic open source software just to get files on it) and to top it off none of the iPod compatible, non-DRM'd MP4 files I put on it actually worked anyway (need to be transcoded apparently).
Basically this device feels plasticy and cheap and I wish I hadn't bought it.
What sort of father would give this to his first born? Not this one, that's for sure!
Marketplace here I come!

Shuffle is a winner for me!

Having considered getting an iPod Shuffle for a while, I was recently surprised at the new low price (probably because the 2GB was about to appear) so bought one for use at the gym, plus a Nano for my husband and I to share when travelling etc. The Shuffle has proved to be excellent for gym use. It is very light, the earphones - which I thought might be a problem - are surprisingly OK and do stay in without any problems during cycling, the cross trainer and treadmill/running. There isn't a screen, but if you buy it knowing this then it's fine. For workout purposes, I have put tracks on it from my own CDs - tracks that I know energise and inspire me to have a great workout! I either work through the tracks as they play, or 'shuffle' them and get a good mixture of tracks which is brilliant. You don't need to look at a screen anyway if you're working out!! I have struggled with transferring tracks on to both the Shuffle and Nano, and found it to be very time consuming, but once it's on there that's it. Just switch on and enjoy!! :o)
