SUPER PRODUCT - LOW PRICE
For what this gadget does at this price who can complain. I get to watch all types of files mainly AVI files on any TV so no longer need to put the laptop on. Not the best of menu systems and sometimes hard to access files from large memory external hard drives, but at under 30 quid who's complaining. This is my second one for my mother-in-laws place. The first one I've had for almost a year with no problems.

Sennheiser CX 400 II Precision Noise Isolating Ear-canal Phones with Integrated Volume Control - Black

New Price: £19.99

Review for Sennheiser CX 400 II Precision Noise Isolating Ear-canal Phones with Integrated Volume Control - Black:
I'm impressed with my Sennheiser CX 400 II Ear-canal Phones
I brought my Sennheiser CX 400 II Precision Noise Isolating Ear-canal Phones with Integrated Volume Control - Black after my son got me a budget pair of ear canal phones to try as I always had difficulty keeping in, the supplied earphones with my Sony NWZS545B S Series 16GB Walkman with Built-In Stereo Speakers - Black.
I read many reviews prior to my purchase & put my trust in the Sennheiser name & generally good reviews which I read. To say that it was like being in the studio is an egsaduration but I am impressed with the quality and the price. They have reasonable noise canceling qualities
The added benifit of having multisized changable earbuds to suit the user is great, & I now have no problem keeping them in place for long periods of time in comfort.
As an added bonus there is a pouch supplied to store them in.
The only negative I could report is that the wire is a rubbery type material which tends to tangle a little, BUT I do tend to wrap the phones around my MP3 (don't we all?) I have recently ordered a pair of Sennheiser CX 300 II Precision Noise Isolating Ear-canal Phones - White for my wife.

Amazing value for money. You can't expect hi end for 15 quids, but it's far more better than anything you can buy for the same amount in a shop. It's even better than my previous purchase - logitech 2.1 speakers with a sub. Though x-140 does'nt come with a sub, it has plenty of bass in it.

New Price: £49.99

Review for Roberts Sports DAB2 DAB/FM RDS Personal Digital Radio with Loudspeaker:
Nearly perfect
Bought this when my old Sony AM/FM firnally bit the dust after tons of years use. Delighted with the size and weight although smaller will always be better. Sound quality is scarily good and reception not a issue. No need to use the ariel yet so thats not a concern either. Im in central belt scotland btw. Volume is also good for use in noisey sports grounds. One small downside is the inability to scroll through the favourites menu chanels. The need to access the favourites and then scroll thro this each time is a bit of a pain but im getting used to it. I'm not that interested in the speaker but it sounds fine and might come in handy. All in all im delighted and would recommend it highly.

Canon Original PG-510 Black Ink Cartridge

Our Price: £10.99 & this item Delivered FREE in the UK with Super Saver Delivery. See details & conditions
New Price: £6.80

Review for Canon Original PG-510 Black Ink Cartridge:
Buyer Beware, Canon PG-510 Starter Cartridge Low Ink!!!!
When Canon sell you a new printer they supply a Canon PG-510 black and a Canon CL-511 colour cartridge. Well these cartridges only hold 9mls black & 9mls colour ink in them which is written in really really small writing on the back of the cartridge boxes. For higher yield cartridges what you really need is the Canon PG-512 black which holds 15mls of ink and for the colour you should be using the Canon CL-513 cartridge which holds 13mls of ink. There is a company that I have also found (advantage online) which stock the Canon originals and a British premium compatible 512/513 version which holds 24mls of ink in each cartridge and work just the same. Canon make there money out of selling you a very good printer (MX340) but then sell you cartridges that have hardly any ink in them (PG510 & CL511). Don't fall into the Canon ink con trap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Review for Logitech Z323 Speaker System:
Good....but not what I expected
Read the review on WhatHiFi and thought this might be really good for my study room where I have my PC. Got a nice bargain price at Amazon, after having viewed it at PCWorld. When it arrived, setting up was not hassle at all. The sound though is a bit dissapointing. Yes it is '3D-surround' as the small speakers have both front and rear sound emmissions. But the sub-woofer on high volume is not has clear and crisp as the review promissed. Overall, it is a good buy for a small office for occassional music or wedcast.

Logitech Pure-Fi Express Plus iPod/iPhone speaker dock

Used Price: £29.99
New Price: £39.99

Review for Logitech Pure-Fi Express Plus iPod/iPhone speaker dock:
Not Bad for the Price..
I think the Logitech Pure-fi Express is pretty good for the price on here, could have done with a radio which for some reason I was automatically expecting, but I don't listen to the radio that much anyway.. The sound quality is pretty good, but the volume is not as high as I think it could be, probably any more higher could be pushing onto the distortion boundaries but that should be up to the end user to make that choice. Looks are good, build quality seams solid, but not too many features at all. A good point is that I don't have to take off my case to dock my phone which can be a pain with some docks..
I think Overall if you want a solid portable dock which can be used anywhere while charging your phone playing quality music at a normal sound level, with an alarm clock as a added bonus then at 40 quid then you've come to the right place, if you want anything more than that then look else where..

Western Digital TV Live HD Media Player

Our Price: £83.80 & this item Delivered FREE in the UK with Super Saver Delivery. See details & conditions
Used Price: £77.97
New Price: £83.80

Review for Western Digital TV Live HD Media Player:
A few nerdish notes
There are plenty of reviews here already to assure people that this is an excellent little device that does what it claims to do very well. So I'm writing this to raise a few points that will probably only be of interest to people who want to know what the limits of this device are, rather than how it performs for current mainstream consumers. So this is a review aimed at the nerdishly inclined.

My firmware is the latest currently (August 2010) available. I am feeding the box over 100 Mb/s cat 5e ethernet from a mix of servers including Linux boxes running Samba and NFS devices from WD and Buffalo, as well as playing files from a Seagate 500Gb portable hard disk attached to the USB port. I have also tried linking it to my home LAN via a Devolo 200AV mains-borne link, with results I'll say more about in a moment.

1) The only thing that may impact on mainstream users is that it can be a bit picky about mp3s. I haven't kept an exact count, but I reckon it has refused to play around 2% of my collection with the message that the file is of an"unsupported type". This is easily enough fixed by decoding and recoding the file: all the problem ones have been made playable this way. The odd thing is, I can't find any common feature in the files it rejected. They were from a big variety of sources, produced by different encoders at several different bitrates, and they all checked out fine using the standard mp3 checking utilities.

2) On video files, it performs faultlessly on divX, Xvid and H264-encoded files at 720p and below as well as on DVD material, both from USB attached media and over the Devolo (nominally 200Mb/s but in reality much slower) mains-borne ethernet link. However, it can't magically force more bandwidth across a network that is actually available, which means that, as expected, 1080i mpeg-2 recordings of raw (Korean) HDTV transport streams will not play smoothly over the mains-wiring LAN. I haven't tried with a WiFi adapter, but I would expect the same results as with the Devolo with such bandwidth-hungry material. However, across a properly wired 100Mb/s ethernet link, even these demanding mpeg-2 videos play flawlessly.

This means that anyone hoping to play such HDTV transport-stream files, or even more demanding ones from blu-ray sources, across a LAN that doesn't have conventional wiring, will need to move them first to a directly-attached storage device on one of the USB ports. Since the WD box client lets you pull files across the network to attached storage, or indeed push them there from a PC anywhere on your LAN, this is easy enough to do as and when needed, though it can of course take twenty minutes or more to move the huge files across in this way before they can be played But this is a limitation of the LAN infrastructure, not the device itself.

3) The network client in the WD box will not follow remote shortcuts (or Linux symlinks packaged as Windows-type shortcuts by Samba) Any shortcuts on a remote share are listed, but attempts to descend into them and access files result in a"No video/audio files in this folder" message, showing that the client does not know what to do with a shortcut. This is unlikely to be a problem for most people. I only hit it because I like to organize my material in a fairly deep hierarchy of folders, then make subcollections accessible via shortcuts/symlinks in a top-level directory. That approach simply won't work with the WD box. You have to navigate to your content using the native paths. Presumably WD could fix this with a firmware upgrade if they chose to.

4) The player's network client is also fussy about connecting to password-protected Samba shares, such as nearly all NAS devices use. It behaves as Vista and Windows 7 do out of the box, meaning that password protected shares on XP-era devices like older Buffalo NAS drives can't be accessed. So if you have an NAS device that would't allow secured access from Vista or Windows 7 until you applied a fix (actually a registry tweak) from the supplier of the NAS so that your Windows behaves like XP or earlier when authenticating to Samba, then the WD box will not be able to access any password-secured shares on that device. Whereas a user can easily modify their OS to make such connections, only WD could fix this issue via a firmware update. If you have such a device, you will need to take the password protection off the shares it contains and make them available to the guest user without password before the WD device will access them.

5) As others have commented, a major boost to this device (and one that would find it a place in a lot more British households) would be to incorporate a client for the BBC Iplayer and similar services from other UK broadcasters. But I guess WD thinks the UK market is too insignificant to bother doing that.

6) Of the existing built-in clients for Internet services, the only one I've tried to any extent is for YouTube. I don't really see the point of blowing up YouTube videos (even YT's notion of High Quality ones) to TV screen dimensions, but for people who do want that, it works well enough. Searching for material is a bit hit-and-miss, mainly because so many YT users don't tag their upload sensibly, and the WD search interface makes it tricky to input searches and weed out the results you actually want from the long list of hits. However, the client does let you use your YT profile settings by logging in to your YT account, and by adjusting those you can control to some extent the selection and ordering of results (e.g. by country or language in the"most viewed" etc categories).

7) Another nice feature, though of strictly minority interest, is that the box allows you to choose one non-Latin character set to support additionally in filenames, alongside the default Unicode. This means that if you have filenames containing non-Latin characters or exotic accents, you can see those names correctly listed. (Tip: if you have files named in all three major East Asian languages, choose"Korean". That way you'll see enough of the Hanzi or Kanji in Chinese or Japanese filenames to figure out what the files are, while getting full Hangeul support).

8) To judge from other reviews here, people's mileage varies where attempts to play ISO images of DVDs is concerned. The docs don't claim that this is possible, and my personal experience with the current firmware confirms that it isn't.

All in all, this little box has been better value for money and a lot more fun than any other bit of hardware I've bought recently. I thoroughly recommend it.

Microsoft MHC-00004 Wireless Mobile Mouse 6000

Used Price: £29.97
New Price: £22.99

Review for Microsoft MHC-00004 Wireless Mobile Mouse 6000:
I think I've been sent a duff one, but potentially good...
Bought this mouse to go alongside my Microsoft 6000 blue tooth keyboard - which I have been happy with.

I'll put my comments into bullet points, for ease of reading:

1. First impression - terrible packaging!! Unnecessary amount of plastic packaging, which is disappointing as my keyboard came in cardboard. Big companies like Microsoft should be getting the message on this now. Consumers aren't dumb - we don't need acres of plastic to try and promote the product. It's what's inside we care about!!
2. First laptop (Asus A6000) I tried to use it on, the mouse pointer seized up and I could not even use the touch pad. Had to unplug the dongle and plug in the old wired mouse to get functionality back again. Second laptop (Dell Inspiron 6000) was a straightforward plug and play. Haven't spent time working out why.
3. Mouse looks great and is nice and tactile. Left and right buttons have a silent click which I like a lot (old mouse had a loud click which would bother my wife when she was watching TV and I was on my PC).
4. Bluetooth USB transceiver is fantastic. Extremely good range. Very small - bare pokes out from the side of my laptop) and can be store in the mouse - brilliant.
5. Now the major problem - the scroll wheel. I don't know if I have a duff mouse - I am guessing I have because no one else has mentioned this - but this scroll wheel wobbles from side to side and makes a knocking/tapping noise every time I touch it, like the bearings have had it. In addition to this, the scrolling is, in my view, too sensitive and disappointingly it is 'un-notched' which I personally prefer.

Due to point number 5, I am returning this mouse to Amazon, and if the next one which is sent out also has a wobbly wheel, then I will be getting a refund and selecting a different make/model.

Sony CMTBX77DBI Mini Hi-Fi with iPod Dock

Our Price: £127.99 & this item Delivered FREE in the UK with Super Saver Delivery. See details & conditions
New Price: £127.99

Review for Sony CMTBX77DBI Mini Hi-Fi with iPod Dock:
A true pleasure.
I have had so much help reading other people's reviews that I thought I should enter my pennyworth.

This is a really slick, elegant, well priced piece of equipment. My nano i-pod fits well.

The main pleasure is the quality of the sound. I am not hugely technical in this area, but the bass allows me to enjoy cello concertos in a way that my other, cheaper player never did. Truly hugs you with sound.

The DAB radio is disappointing as there is only a flimsy wire aerial and I have another radio with a rigid aerial which works and provides perfect clarity, so that is the reason for four stars.

However, if you want a good, versatile CD product at a fair price with great looks, this is it.
