Superb piece of kit!!

I think the previous reviewer is a bit dim because you have to pull the 2 leg stands out from the back of the unit to enable it to stand up otherwise it will of course fall over!! Mine stands up fine (When the legs are pulled out) and the sound is superb especially the 3d feature which gives a spatial sound and is really effective. Overall great sound and value for money for a compact portable unit and don't forget that it has a rechargeable battery so you don't need to buy any or keep it plugged into the mains for it to work hence it can be used anywhere, plus it has a small remote so no need to get up to change the volume or scan the tracks!! Of course the Bose unit has a better sound but it is a lot more expensive and weighs a ton so it depends on what application you want it for but for me this one does the biz!!

Dissapointing Volume

I had expected that the speakers would have, maybe a max. of 20 -30 watts, but all I got was a measley 3 in each speaker! Really dissapoing! Line in and variety of docks work well though.

A Quality Turntable.

I bought this deck mainly to record the shed loads of vinyl I've had sitting in the loft for years and to replace my old turntable,and I'm happy to say it does both tasks really well.Once you've worked out how to use the"Audacity" software recording vinyl is simple,and its obviously capable of a lot more.The manual could be a little better at telling you how to get started. Its a joy to be able to listen to stuff I have'nt heard in ages.

Absolutely brilliant, don't hesitate!

We all know PURE pretty much invented the portable DAB radio and reviewers are never slow to point out that PURE sets tend to sound much better than the competition. This is equally true of the new PURE Elan RV40 which is truly one of the best I've heard - and it looks more like a conventional radio too (sleek dark grey case) rather than those strange wood and plastic boxes that PURE tend to churn out - and which I don't like at all. The controls are not exactly intuitive, but with a bit of thought and practise (read the manual first!) they soon become second nature. The sound is really clean and crisp and surprisingly full - and you can crank it up pretty loud too, unlike many other"tinny"-sounding portables. I have had absolutely NO problems whatsoever with DAB sound even though the reception is supposed to be patchy in my neck of the woods. FM reception is first class too and the pause/rewind of live radio is a neat and useful feature. Add to that the inclusion of a snooze button, and you have a brilliant sounding and well-equipped portable radio. I am super-fussy about gadgets like these, but this is absolutely wonderful and I recommend it without hesitation. I also managed to find a dealer on Amazon selling it at approximately £30 less than John Lewis!!!

Excellent sound and value for money

I have used these speakers on my computer and with my MP3 player and the quality of sound is something you would expect from speakers costing much more. Can highly recommend them.

Not bad

I have to be honest, I selected these because they looked nice and they're not expensive.
The sound is not very good (especially if you turn the volume up - they do sound tin-y)
Also, I didn't realise how big and heavy these actually are. I only bought them so I could carry them round on holidays but that's rather out of the question now.
Not bad, not good. If you really need a decent pair of speakers for your laptop spend a bit more ...

Great value!

Well firstly, the delivery time was extremely quick... so top marks to Amazon.
The installation for these speakers were genuinely very easy... simple plug and play. And then after turning on the computer and testing it out with a few tracks, the sound was mint and is definately great for a speaker of this price. A very good buy!

Got an iPod? Want GREAT sound at home? GET THIS!

OK - I was searching for a simple, not too expensive (i.e. not Bose), good quality sound dock for my iPod. I read lots of reviews. I even managed to get my hands on a Bose SoundDock to listen to (and there's no denying they have great sound quality, but for £200+??).

Lots of the reviews of this system elsewhere go on about the cost. They say what a great"budget" item this is. To be honest, that put me off at first because I thought -"I don't want budget, I want BEST but for less".

I took the plunge and bought this from these guys. And boy, I was impressed.

Even the box is comes in is groovy and exudes quality!

This is a very solidly built, well designed, quality product. Heavy, simplistic but functional in design. But the best thing is the truly excellent sound quality.

The Amplifi goes really quite loud - loud enought to fill the floor of our house (open plan 60' room) with as much sound as to make it necessary to shout!

Place it on a nice solid surface for the bass to really resonate. And that is another of it's plus points - the 5" dedicated woofer underneath. Fantastic.

If you want a bells and whistles, radio containing, display showing, light show of a docking system - buy something else. If you want quite possible the best £100 worth of engineered audio excellence you can get for an iPod, press that button at the top of the page now. You won't regret it.

Excellent DAB/FM radio

My son had the Evoke XT1 bought as a Christmas present and I was impressed with it. I searched high and low for one but everywhere was sold out.I spotted this model on Amazon and purchased it and I'm glad I did,
The quality of sound is very good and it is so easy to use,
Price is right too. All round excellent value.

OK I suppose

Need to have thick walls for these and they may not be future proofed.
The sub woofer is very powerful, I've had it on bare minimum volume setting for 2 years and the neighbours are still banging on the wall while I cannot hear the movie properly.
The rear speakers seem too quiet in relation to the front, this is a huge let down for me.
You do not need the speaker system turned on to use the headphone outlet, but not all headphones will work on it. I'm using Sony V-150
On connecting them to my month old Quad PC with HD audio, same codecs and software they sound metallic; if there is rain in a movie the whole scene is ruined unless I set the PC to stereo mode.
Great budget speakers though, bought for £40 from PC world online.
I've seen similar reviews on the newer Logitech models that the rear's are still quiet so after 2 years of tweaking I won't be returning to this brand.

Excellent Product, Very easy to use

I had been toying with the idea of buying a USB turntable for quite some time- I am very pleased to have chosen this one.

I bought it from ACS Media ,it arrived within two working days!

Very simple to set up,first just straight into my stereo system ( make sure that you plug it into the aux plugs not the phono, due to the pre-amp on the turntable), but then I managed to start converting records very quickly.

It comes with all the software to convert vinyl via USB cable, or alternatively download the EZ Vinyl Converter via their website. Very good explanations for required settings for Vista.

All in all, incredibly easy and quick to use. There may be"professional" products costing alot more that will give a better quality of sound, but this is an excellent entry level product, and will certainly suit all my needs.

I'm just sorry I didn't buy one earlier!

Great DAB micro

This is a great unit (I didn't get it through Amazon as their recent change to a new delivery company means nothing ever shows up when it should...or at all...). The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is because of the sound quality (when playing CDs), which isn't bad, but not great!

Perfect reception on DAB and FM and the DAB record/rewind functions and multiple alarms are great.

The buzz mentioned in a couple of reviews is from the casing vibrating slightly. Not a problem unless the unit's right next to your bed (as it is in my case). I just wedged a bit of folded paper between the casing and the frame to solve it - no buzz any more and no trip to the diy shop to get the rubber washer!

Be Wary

Check if your mobile has A2DP capability for playing MP3 files via bluetooth before buying. Nice piece of kit but not bluetooth compatable with many mobiles notably SE K750I which I have.Plays MP3 files if a physical link is made with provided cable & suitable output cable from phone.Nice sound & the voice dialing function is useful

Excellent speakers, great price

Bought these a little while ago and have been surprised for all of that time. The price is unbelieveable considering you will be buying an item that is simple, of good quality and sure to last the duration of any modern computer. Very good indeed.

Does what it says on the tin

I wanted a bed-side table size CD/radio/tape player. This one does the job really well, without looking bulky or ugly. The sound quality is very good - my spoken word BBC version of the Hobbit sounded really vibrant. Recommended.

Good value&good sound - shame about the annoying plug.

I have just recently bought these speakers for myself and i am pleased with the sound,price and quality of them. There is only one thing that bothers me about them, the plug makes a buzzing sound when you switch it on. It doesn't effect the sound when the speakers are playing music, but when they are just on to charge the ipod, the sound is really irritating. I'm not sure if it is a fault with my speakers or if it happens with every single set. It would be interesting to hear if other sets have the same problem.

dinky but substantial!

I read many reviews about this model and decided to take the plunge and for £29 I am so pleased I did! I am not the most technically minded of people but I found it very easy to start loading podcasts and music. The player is very small - fits in the palm of your hand - but it packs an excellent speaker which I have found very useful indeed; the sound isn't bad at all given its size. The radio also works a treat if you have a good signal. I do not regret my purchase at all as I now have a fully mobile mini music centre!!!!

Top speakers for you laptop - remember they are USB powered!

I picked these up in the US. Nice size, look pretty good. Sound wise the speakers are great, as long as they are for a desk or hotel, do not expect them to fill a living room with rich, deep sound. Films are good, MP3S ok.

The speakers are powered by USB so there is no need for a separate adaptor - but this means you can only use them with a PC, not an Ipod etc

A bag is included which is a nice touch.

Overall, highly recommended.

Excellent buy

This is a substantial and good looking radio, the sort of thing you would expect to see on Inspector Morse's desk. Well made and good quality controls it has a large and easy to read display, although the data can seem to go across quite slowly. Easy to use with first class sound and given I can see the DAB mast from the front window I don't need the aerial up! In the Scottish Borders I am getting 20 stations but I'm sure elsewhere it will get significantly more. Some people might want more preset buttons (there are 5 per band)I don't see it as a problem - ot just means pressing a couple more buttons. Overall an excellent buy as has been every Roberts radio I have had

Great... unless you want to use headphones or fall asleep with the radio on

I was attracted to this radio because it looks very cool and retro and I didn't want something nasty looking in my bedroom.

The set up was intuitively easy and the sound quality was really excellent. If you want a nice DAB radio for the kitchen I would give it 5 stars. But the trouble is I have very specific requirements for a clock radio which the Philips radio didn't fulfil.

Firstly, I like to listen to the radio through my headphones when I wake up in the middle of the night to get me back to sleep. But the sleep function was ridiculously complicated to put on, especially in the dark. It took lots of noisy button pushing (the buttons are overly clicky) which isn't great when you are trying not to wake up your partner.

Secondly, the sound quality through the headphones was terrible. I don't know if I got a faulty one but there was a loud electrical buzz which drowned out the radio. Maybe it's because the headphone socket is right next to the power input?

Also, for my taste, the display is much too bright too and lit up the room. But that's a personal thing.

So, I've sent my Philips back and replaced it with the not very pretty Pure Siesta. It might be ugly but it ticks all my technical requirements (and its a little bit cheaper).
