Quality radio, pity about a couple of irritants.

I bought a Philips AE5900 because of the reviews here. In spite of some negative comments, everyone was very pleased with the sound and design. After living with it for a few weeks, I emailed Philips to express my dismay that, when I switch to standby (it's in the bedroom), I can't activate the dimmer (more like blackout!), so I have to leave the radio switched on, activate the dimmer, turn the volume down to 00, and basically leave the radio powered on all night. This solution works okay, but it's a pity that it's necessary. Also, I can't get the snooze function to work and I asked Philips for advice, and asked what the snooze button on top of the unit is for because there is no mention of it in the manual instructions. They replied, but gave no answer to either problem. They just said my radio had a fault and I should return it to the supplier. Since the problems don't affect the quality of the output and I can live with them, I shall keep the radio, mainly because from the various reviews here I can't see a replacement of the same model would be any different.

That was quick

I havent yet set up this turntable as it is a present but the 5 stars are for the fact that when l ordered it said it would be dispatched before 24 Dec and it came the next day, by standard post, Fantastic.

compact, light and excellent sound

i bought these speakers because my laptop has very poor quality built in speakers, and i needed something more powerful to listen to music on it. as i was budgeting, i decided that i was going to look for as cheap a solution as possible - and this was the product i chose to buy. i didnt expect much for around £7, but i have to say i was pleasantly surprised by the sound quality, a decent bass sound and a good top volume. the speakers are well built, compact and stylish. i would definatley recommend them to anyone, particularly given the bargain price...

Poor FM radio, great speaker

The main reason I bought the Creative Zen Stone Plus with built in speaker(pink) was the radio and that built in speaker. The radio is a waste of time though. Reception is very poor even though I live in an area with a very strong FM signal. All the other radios in the house have crystal clear FM reception (including the FM radio on my partners Sony Ericsson K750i mobile phone). If you have the patience and can put up with very loud static while you shuffle about the room seeking that elusive hot spot, you might eventually find one. Don't move though or you'll lose it. No good then for listening while walking the dog. I wondered if my player was faulty and contacted the Creative Support Team two days after purchasing it to discuss. After some rather stilted and weird email communication from them (they didn't read my email properly regarding the problem nor did they actually answer any of my queries) I took it back to the store and they happily exchanged it for another one. The reception on the new one is slightly better but not by much. I have decided to live with it (even though i am not happy and have since noticed that somebody else has notified of the same problem on the Creative web site user discussion forum) because I really love that speaker...it really is fun! Obviously it's a thin sound but never harsh. Music or spoken word you find yourself getting totally immersed in the listening because somehow, despite its size it manages to deliver real ambience. The microphone is ok for recording as long as the source is right next to the mic. Anything else it doesn't pick up. No good for recording lectures as I have seen bandied about by the manufacturers! As you might have read elsewhere, the way files and menus are managed on the Zen Stones is not ideal. However, as far as i know no other player has this built in speaker so there's no other option if you want this feature. Supplied software is excellent and easy to use, the player feels gorgeous tucked in your hand as so small and screen very clear. Creative should sort that radio out though because it really is not acceptable. I have had to take this into consideration with my rating.

Sony CFDS01CD Radio Recorder

I bought this radio recorder for a friend who is partially sighted. It's perfect, the buttons are big and it's very easy to use at an affordable price.

Worth every penny

I purchased mine from Amazon. I thought about Bose but thought it was expensive. I had never heard of Klipsch but did some research after I found the Room Groove on Amazon. I was very happy with what I read about the company and what the reviews on Amazon and elsewhere said so i made my purchase. Am I glad I did. It sounds great with a wide variety of music. Decent base, sharp vocals excellent piece of kit. Took it out of the box 4 hours ago and plugged the iPod in and played it all afternoon whilst I've been working. AND it looks great as a piece of 'furniture'. Even my wife is happy with it in the house!

DOES NOT WORK

Despite having written a previous adverse review it has been deleted - strange that !! Basically this product DOES NOT DO WHAT IT IS SUPPOSED TO DO. I and my techno friends have failed to get this thing to record and despite having contacted the manufacturer, they have contacted me by e-mail and suggested I telephone another purchaser to ask him how he did it. WHAT PATHETIC AFTER SALES SERGVICE !!

Good reception. poor ergonomics

The reception of this radio is truly excellent - I can carry it around the house without the aerial extended, with hardly any reception problems.

Sound quality is good, as is build quality.

Get a chargepak (you need the C6x, the standard one won't fit) - a set of batteries costs £7.50, so it will very soon pay for itself.

My big gripe is with the ergonomics, which I think are poor.

The twenty presets are not really presets at all, as you can't just press one button and go straight to the station you want. Really what the Pure One offers is a favourite stations list and no presets. To find your station, you have to look at the display, scroll through the list until you find the one you want, and then press the select knob. NOT a quick process! The list doesn't even position itself relative to the station you're on - it always starts at position 1. So for example, if you are using preset 9 and want to go to preset 10, you have to scroll though nine stations to get to preset 10.

The daft thing is, this radio has seven buttons that could have been used for proper one-touch presets, and they have been used for other, less frequently used functions, such as the timer (which I never use), and these buttons are not even in any logical order! Get a grip, Pure, and think about how your radios will actually be used!

This is a very good piece of kit, spoiled by a badly designed and irritating user interface.

They do the job

They're nothing fancy but I only really use them in the office to listen to radio and they cope just fine. Listen to occasional music on them too and it's tolerable. But you do get what you pay for...

The sound quality on these speakers is absolutely first rate. The biggest thing going for the IM7 is the built-in sub-woofer for high quality bass. A feature lacking in every ipod speaker that I've seen. Aside from the excellent sound quality, the system comes with a cool little remote control to forward or go back on a playlist, control the volume and turn on/off the unit. Plus it looks stunning in black.

The most obvious question when you're looking to spend over £100 on a speaker is - how does it compare to Bose? I have compared it very closely with the much over hyped Bose SoundDock and SoundDock Pro and the IM7 beats both models hands down. Bose distorts sound at higher volumes and suffers from poor bass quality. Plus Bose is far more expensive.

The only minor issue with the speaker is that it is definitely a bit heavier than most similar systems (again due to the sub-woofer). However if you don't intend to carry around the speaker with you and will mostly keep it plugged in to a power source then you'll be fine.

Definitely worth the price and a 5/5 rating.

Neat system that packs a punch!

I bought this system because I liked the look of the sound output and the ability to put mp3 files onto an SD card. On both counts the DMX60 hasn't let me down. The 2GB SD card (bought seperately) holds more music than you could want and it all plays crystal clear on the 40W speakers. The ability to record radio to the SD card by using the 7-day programme guide has also been a bonus. I understand that the purests may find fault with this inexpensive little system, but if like me, you can't tell much difference between a £5 bottle of wine and a £20 bottle (if you follow my drift), then DMX60 might be for you.

Jaw droppingly disappointing.

Sometimes you read reviews written by other people about a product you own and wonder why they can think and feel so differently to you.

This item is one of those - I see loads of positive reviews for this system when I found it to be cheap, nasty and just not good enough.

From the moment I opened the packaging my heart sank - these speakers are very small (they are travel speakers after all) - make sure you have read the dimensions PROPERLY before you buy. You have been warned.

Now,it's akin to a law of physics that small speakers = bad sound so I wondered what magic had been performed by JBL on these little chaps. Unfortunately, no rabbits were pulled out of any hats. The volume is ridiculously poor; I bought these because the volume from my laptop wasn't good enough. Of course, I found that my laptop was LOUDER, BASSIER and LESS DISTORTED than these speakers (my laptop is a Vaio that is no great shakes in the sound department). This was on mains power of course; on battery, they were even worse!!

So I just sent them back - usual first-rate Amazon refund service.

Please think before you buy - not everything you read is true - these are a product to be bought in desperation when you have no other choice. You do have a choice - there are hundreds of other choices on Amazon alone.

And finally, be careful out there; it is unfortunate but true that some people can be pleased with VERY poor quality stuff. Their needs and expectations may be very different to yours.

Great but fragile

I have had 2 sets of these creative speakers which overall I think are great for the money. The sound is good both depth and loudness and they are super small size for travelling. BUT my only complaint is that both of my sets have blown their speakers (this second set after only 2 months). I do a lot of travelling and always have them wrapped in something soft, but both times the speakers have blown for no reason. (I do not play the music loud either as I am massage therapist!). They are fragile so watch out! Creative, if you read this - put a covering over them please!

Amazing value!!

I'm not one that's impressed easily but this gets my vote. Really pleased by sound quality and for this price it really is a bargain. It also looks real classy too. You will be amazed at the volume level of this device. Approx dimensions are 31(w)x 12(h)cm. It comes with remote control (incl battery) with functions for power, bass, treble, volume, mute, play, forward and rewind. It also comes with mains adapter, brackets for ipod's in different sizes and 3.5mm headphone cable to connect other mp3 players. Get it while you can!

Unbelievable sound

For something so small, the sound is fantastic. Over the years, I have had many travel speakers, and these are up there with the best in terms of sound. For size, there is no comparison. I have never seen a speaker so small with such good sound, including respectable bass. There are USB and 3.5mm phono connectors on a Ziplinq-type cable.

I bought the system to accompany my new Dell computer because i was told that they were fantastic by a friend. Having used them for about 2 months i must admit im not disappointed at all with my purchase. The sound quality and bass is very very good given the size of the system. I would definately recommend them to anyone looking to purchase 2.1 speakers to use with their comp or their ipod. The red colour in the jbl speakers is actually much nicer than the variations even though its cheaper! perhaps worth some consideration...

Great Sound but quite a danger when using the chargepak!

I have had two of these radios, the first one went back because of a fault with the connections.
- The radio worked fine when on mains, but when i switched to battery (to make it portable), it died and the only way to get it working again would be to remove all batteries or the chargepak, plug it back into mains and then replace the batteries.Not very portable.
- The radio itself is really good, sound quality is great and the use of the SD card facility is a masterpiece,
- but...when my second radio came exactly the same thing occurred. Then to add to that I plugged it in one day and the chargepak skin melted, the spring connection from the battery to the radio became hot and melted away from the frame resulting in a smoke filled room and a panic on my behalf.
- The radio went straight back and has been replacd by something a little safer.
